Mexico: identify the monster that macheted the pregnant dog and cut her legs.

Jail for macheting this pregnant dog!

Mark,

In Veracruz, they identify the monster that macheted the pregnant dog and put a little leg and machete in the face. This is the image of this ABUSER.

Addressed to: Public ministry, Veracruz authorities

In Veracruz, they identify the monster that macheted the pregnant dog and cut her one of her legs and cut her face. This is the image of this ABUSER. It is for others to ask for justice when in this country they do not know that term. Mexico is a country of many savages, starting with the authorities that do not fight against animal murderers and we feel helpless and cannot do anything.

Thank you.

Lady Freethinker’s groundbreaking investigation into a factory dog-meat farm in S. Korea is still making headlines with a new article in the Daily Mail, which reaches millions of people each day:

Ruthless dog dealers tried their best to hide the sickening conditions, keeping the dogs deep in the farmland behind rows of tarps. And when LFT’s investigation team found this farm of horrors, the “dog meat mafia” approached menacingly and chased the camera away. But they could not stop us from exposing the truth to the world.

Trapped in dark, filthy, lonely metal cages, these dogs never even get to feel the sun on their faces before being brutally slaughtered for meat. It’s time to stop the cruelty.

TAKE ACTION

Speak out to help end the suffering. Contact Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Cho Yoon-je at generalusa@mofa.go.kr and respectfully urge him to work toward finally outlawing the killing of dogs and cats for meat in Korea.

Lady Freethinker will continue working to expose and end the dog and cat meat trade in Korea and around the world. But we can’t do it without your support.  Will you please donate to help us keep saving animals’ lives?

Thank you for adding your voice to help stop animal cruelty.

Vegan Athletes.

Throughout the sporting world, vegan athletes are no longer an anomaly. Check out this profile of eleven prominent pros from eight different sports who follow a vegan diet.

For many decades, the National Football League posed a seemingly insurmountable barrier to vegans, and many athletes assumed vegan diet couldn’t attain the muscle mass and the strength required for NFL competition. But during the 2018 season, more than a dozen members of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans embraced a vegan diet. Standout wide receiver Griff Whalen includes the words “100% #vegan athlete” in his Twitter bio. And Colin Kaepernick tweeted the hashtag #NotBadForAVegan to accompany a training photograph.

Perhaps the most impressive showings by vegan athletes are in the fields of ultra-endurance competitions, including running, cycling, and swimming. Rich Roll is a long-time vegan who could well be the most impressive ultra-endurance athlete of any era. His many feats included doing five Iron Man distance triathlons over a five day period.

Scott Jurek, a vegan since 1999, set a world running record by covering 165.7 miles in a 24-hour period—a distance of more than six marathons!

Nutrition Needs for Vegan Athletes

When it comes to sports nutrition, the primary special need for athletes is to simply eat plenty of nutrient-rich foods. Additionally, weight lifters and other athletes doing heavy strength training must also boost their protein intake somewhat.

Everyone from a professional athlete to a weekend golfer stands to benefit from a well-planned vegan or vegan-leaning diet. And it’s reassuring that vegan diets can deliver the goods to anyone who wants to enhance their athletic performance. If you want to adopt a well-planned vegan diet, check out our How to Go Vegan article, as well as our Vegan Nutrition Guide.

You don’t need to become an elite vegan athlete to experience the benefits of exercise and basic fitness. Our comprehensive Vegan Fitness Guide will show you a number of easy and rewarding ways to become more physically active.

Recommended Vegan Fitness Books

The first book every serious vegan athlete should read is Plant-Based Sports Nutrition, by D. Enette Larson-Meyer and Matt Ruscigno. The book offers comprehensive nutrition advice to optimize athletic performance, yet it refrains from bogging the reader down with complicated minutiae. You’ll get all the information you need—recipes, training advice, and meal plans—to help you meet your body’s needs during training and competition.

Regardless of whether you seek to increase strength, bulk, or endurance, there’s a vegan-oriented book that will provide you with solid advice for achieving your goals. Here are some of the best recent titles:

Not so long ago, veganism was widely regarded as incompatible with the training requirements for a number of sports. That is happily no longer the case, and some of the world’s most accomplished athletes are proving on a daily basis that a well-planned vegan diet can indeed fuel top-level athletic performance.

Four men convicted of badger baiting following an undercover investigation by BBC Wales have been jailed.

Christian Latcham, 32, from Porth, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Thomas Young, 26, from Newbridge, Caerphilly, Cyle Jones, 31 and Jamie Rush, 27, both from Brecon, Powys, were all found guilty at Cardiff Crown Court.

They denied attempting to kill or take badgers in Pembrokeshire in March 2018.

But their actions were uncovered by the BBC Wales Investigates programme.

The four defendants were handed the following sentences on Thursday:

  • Latcham has been sentenced to 26 weeks
  • Jones has been sentenced to 22 weeks
  • Rush has been sentenced to 22 weeks
  • Young has been sentenced to 20 weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months. He will be subject to a curfew between 21:00-06:00 for 12 weeks

When Jones was taken away, someone in the public gallery shouted “keep your head up love”, he was previously jailed in June for 18 weeks after admitting unnecessary cruelty to animals, relating to two dogs who were injured.

The latest prosecution followed investigations by the RSPCA after the programme was shown.

The trial was told it was accepted the four defendants had not caught a badger at Llanddewi Velfrey on 24 March.

But prosecutor Jon Tarrant said: “There is ample evidence here that they were attempting to take a badger.”

The prosecution said the defendants were “on the chase” when a badger was spotted in woodland near Narbeth.

The court heard the group pursued it, dug a large hole to try and catch it, but ultimately failed to corner the animal.

District Judge Neil Thomas said it had been a “strong prosecution case”.

He said a BBC researcher who gave evidence against the four men was “a clear, confident and compelling witness”.

The judge said he did not believe the only defendant to give evidence, Jamie Rush.

He said: “I have no difficulty coming to the unreserved conclusion, that he was not telling the truth.”

The court heard the previous convictions of the four defendants – Latcham has 12 previous convictions for 24 offences, including for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Jones has 13 previous convictions for 18 offences, including animal cruelty, while Rush has eight previous convictions for nine offences and has previously been sentenced to two years in prison, and Young also has previous animal cruelty convictions.

Thailand: Tragic – Six elephants die trying to save each other at Thai waterfall

Six elephants die trying to save each other at Thai waterfall

Six elephants have fallen to their deaths in Thailand while trying to save each other from a notorious waterfall.

Officials said the incident occurred after a baby elephant slipped over the waterfall in central Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park.

Two other elephants were also found struggling on a cliff edge nearby, and have been moved by Thai authorities.

The waterfall, known as Haew Narok (Hell’s Fall), has a history of similar incidents.

A herd of eight elephants died after falling in 1992, in a case that brought national attention.

Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) said officials were called to the scene on Saturday at 03:00 local time (20:00 GMT on Friday) when a group of elephants was blocking a road by the waterfall.

Three hours later, the body of a three-year-old elephant was spotted near the base of Haew Narok, and five others were discovered nearby.

Khanchit Srinoppawan, chief of the national park, told the BBC that the two remaining elephants were being monitored.

Edwin Wiek, the founder of Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, said the pair may have difficulty surviving as elephants rely on their large herds for protection and finding food.

The incident could also take an emotional toll. Elephants have been known to display signs of grief.

“It’s like losing half your family,” Mr Wiek told the BBC.

“There’s nothing you can do, it’s nature unfortunately,” he said.

Around 7,000 Asian elephants remain in Thailand, with more than half living in captivity.

USA: Act Now – Block Expanded Offshore Drilling.

Us Flagge napv

The U.S. House of Representatives recently voted to permanently ban offshore drilling in the Pacific, Atlantic, and eastern Gulf of Mexico. Both bills passed and are on their way to the Senate.

If passed, this legislation will be an incredible victory for marine wildlife and ocean ecosystems. Offshore drilling causes habitat destruction, ocean acidification, and oil spills, resulting in immense loss of wildlife and damage to coastal communities.

Mark, we need your help to thwart President Trump’s plans for expanded offshore oil drilling. Will you email your Senators today and urge them to pass this critical legislation?

H.R. 1941, the “Coastal and Marine Economies Protection Act of 2019,” would permanently block offshore oil and gas leasing in the Atlantic Ocean, Straits of Florida and the Pacific Ocean. H.R. 205 would amend the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 to permanently block offshore oil and gas leasing off the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Our diverse marine ecosystems are already imperiled as a result of human-driven climate change. We cannot let the Trump administration continue to expand offshore drilling – to the benefit of the oil industry and huge detriment of wildlife, and indeed all life – and increase the burning of fossil fuels at a time when we need to be curbing use dramatically to slow the climate crisis.

Marine wildlife, including endangered sea turtles, dolphins, whales and sea birds, will continue to be injured and killed senselessly if we don’t put a stop to President Trump’s plans to expand offshore drilling.

Please, urge your Senators to act NOW for marine wildlife … for our irreplaceable oceans … and for our future generations. Tell your Senators to vote YES on H.R. 205 and H.R. 1941, and enact a permanent ban on offshore drilling in nearly all U.S. waters.

Animal Welfare: Commission designates a second European Union Reference Centre

eu-flagge-zerrissen-pg

1630 GMT 4/10/19 – Mark telephones the EU and says that he has been given the info (below) by the EU.

He then asks what violation action is being taken by the EU regarding the 70,000 sheep exported recently from Romania (EU) to Kuwait and Iran in temperatures which do not comply with EU Reg 1/2005 on the welfare of animals during transport.

The man on the phone cannot find anything or provide answers regarding this. He takes Marks contact details and assures that they will ask EU authorities for updates on the situation.

We now wait to hear back via e mail from the EU to find out what, if anything, has happened. We actually doubt if anything at all has taken place. Regards Mark.

Animal Welfare: Commission designates a second European Union Reference Centre
Today, following a public selection process, the Commission has designated, as EU Reference Centre for the welfare of poultry and other small farmed animals, a consortium formed by the Agence Nationale de Sécurité Sanitaire de l’Alimentation (France), and also composed of the Institut de Recerca I Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (Spain), Aarhus Universitet – Institut for Husdyrvidenskab (Denmark), and Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell’Emilia Romagna (Italy). A first centre was designated in March 2018, with works focusing on the welfare of pigs. This second Centre will expand the technical support and coordinated assistance to the Member States to carry out official controls on animal welfare. It will also contribute to the dissemination of good practices, as well as carrying out scientific studies, training courses and disseminating research and information on technical innovations. Improving the enforcement of the legislation is one of the Commission’s priorities in the area of animal welfare. Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis welcomed this designation, stating that “it confirms the Commission’s consistent and long term policy to support strong enforcement on animal welfare. After the designation of a first centre on the welfare of pigs, a second centre on poultry and other small-farmed animals was essential since these animals are subject to intensive production methods”.

WAV Comment _ All looks good on paper – but we still have had no action taken against Romania about the 70,000 sheep they exported in conditions which were NON COMPLIANT with EU Animal Transport Regulations.  Words are one thing, action is another.
