Great – a kill policy for ‘controlling’ stray animals NEVER works ! – GO TNR.

Despite widespread opposition, the European Commission presented on 3rd September 2025 the EU / Mercosur Partnership Agreement – or EMPA, and Interim Trade Agreement (ITA) to EU Member States.
Ever even heard of Mercosur ?; many have not. I will attempt to give a basic overview.
Since it was first ‘invented’, UK and EU animal protection organisations have called on the EU to reject the Mercosur agreements in their current form, given its devastating impact on millions of animals,
in the links after the following photos. The Mercosur nations are Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, and they are already the EU’s top trading partner in cow and chicken meat. The agreement now will grant significant additional access within the EU to these nations
But, and a big BUT, these South American nations operate a lot of intensive animal farming systems; and as such, by allowing even greater access to the EU now, the Commission is effectively saying to EU farmers, who are basically doing a lot to greatly improve their animal welfare systems, for which we must give them credit, ‘you can go to hell and if we import more cheaply, intensively raised meat from lower animal welfare standards, in South America, then so be it’.
Not exactly what EU consumers and farmers wish to hear I think. EU citizens in general are a pretty switched on crowd; they respect animals and in return they expect good welfare standards.
See what the Eurogroup for Animals have to say about it . Note especially the paragraph about wild animals and their habitats being the first to suffer under the deal, and that by increasing the trade in cow neat, leather and soy needed to feed same animals, the agreement will drive more land take up, resulting in deforestation and the loss of homes for forest dwelling animals. Everything is linked, and in this case, the results will be devastating.

A bad deal for food, food producing animals and especially the environment.

In the last decade, 274,000 cattle have been compulsory slaughtered in England. Since 2013 over 239,000 Badgers have been culled.
Now real questions about this are being asked:

She will face a 3 day trial next year for ‘pushing a staff member and the theft of a Crayfish’.
Emma Smart was released! on bail on the condition that she does not go back to the restaurant.
The Judge, Judge Fuller, appeared to think the whole issue was also bonkers, saying that the 3 day trial ‘would be for the theft of a lobster, wont it ?’

Above – Marine Biologist Emma Smart – now facing a 3 day trial for the theft of a lobster !

Above – Where the incident is alleged to have taken place.
The Daily Mail loves to use terms such as ‘Animal Rights Activist’ in its reporting. As you can see from the above photo, she is simply a respected Marine Biologist lady, with a personal opinion, making a point by the saving of a life. Is saving lives now a crime we ask ?
WAV fully supports the actions taken by Emma; and also agree with Judge Fuller that this pathetic case is what it is – pathetic !!!

Regarding the recent WAV e mail / letter to MP Dr. Sullivan – https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2025/09/02/uk-speaking-up-to-defend-our-iconic-badgers/ today there has been a rapid and positive response from her. It is positive to hear that she, like myself, thinks that badgers are an iconic part of our natural heritage and as such they need to be protected.
I would like to personally thank Dr. Sullivan MP for some very positive comments she has made in her response; which you can read in full below.
I hope that this gives badger welfare campaigners across the country the incentive to write to their own MP in order to get your views, and hopefully theirs when they respond.
Well I think my current work on this issue finishes now with these positive words.
Now I must return to other world animal issues and try to cover human rights atrocities such as those currently being experienced in Gaza.
For our friends the Badgers, Regards Mark.

Photos – The Badger Trust.
This is a VERY important issue in a British Government attempt to quietly and covertly REMOVE PROTECTION for our wonderful and iconic Badgers by allowing UK housing developers to remove or kill an animal that is currently protected by law – under the well named Protection of Badgers Act 1992.
But the Government is trying to destroy badger protection by introducing a newly proposed housebuilding law currently in the House – it is called the ‘Planning and Infrastructure Bill’, or ‘PIB’ for short.
Here is an outline from the Badger Trust of what this new PIB is about – potentially another death sentence for the animals, which are still being slaughtered by the very same Labour government who are using Bovine TB as justification for ill informed mass murder – https://www.badgertrust.org.uk/stop-the-bill

Here is access to the Protection of Badgers 1992 official law defining documentation – https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1992/51/contents
We want Conservation, NOT CONCRETE !
Yesterday, I wrote to my own Member of Parliament (MP) on this very issue. Here is a copy of my e mail:
I make no apologies for the basic, blunt tone; this is a government who intends to murder badgers through new legislation in the form of Section 6, Part 2 of the proposed PIB.
I hope that you UK residents will join with us badger advocates by finding your own MP, and writing as outlined in the Badger Trust action link – https://www.badgertrust.org.uk/
On behalf of the ‘brocks’ who cannot act to defend themselves, thus we must act in their defence – THANK YOU.
