Mulesing causes terrible suffering to live lambs. Large chunks of flesh are hacked away from the animal anal region to try and control what is known as ‘fly strike’. Performed without the use of analgesics, the animals are restrained whilst shear like tools literally remove by cutting off chunks of flesh from around the anus.
