Trophy hunting: corruption and fraud

Trophy hunting is a particularly gruesome pastime that countless living beings pay with their death. In search of a special thrill, hobby hunters travel to distant lands to kill exotic and rare animals.

Apparently, it is not enough for German hunters to kill millions of native wild animals every year. Thousands of Germans travel abroad every year to hunt big game.

The providers of hunting trips leave nothing to be desired because even shooting permits for endangered species such as elephants, rhinos, lions, or polar bears can be purchased for a lot of money.
And species native to Europe such as brown bears, wolves, and lynxes are also on the trophy collectors’ hit lists.

Hunted, killed, and mutilated
As a result of frequently missed shots and cruel hunting practices, many of the animals do not die immediately, but rather slowly and painfully.
The animals are often shot and flee with bloody wounds. As they run for their lives in fear of death, the animals continue to be shot at by the hunters and chased through the wilderness – lead bullets or steel arrows pierce their bodies until they collapse, exhausted.
Hunting with a bow and arrow or a crossbow is prohibited in Germany for reasons of animal welfare, but it is a common hunting practice in many countries for trophy hunting.

The suffering of lions for the hunt in South Africa

In South Africa, thousands of lions are bred on so-called canned hunting farms so that they are later not naturally afraid of humans and thus of the hobby hunter. On many farms, the animals are even lured with bait or medicated to make the hunt a success even for inexperienced shooters.

FROM THE LONELIEST TO THE LUCKIEST ELEPHANT: KAAVAN TAKES OFF FOR CAMBODIA

30 November 2020

For the first time FOUR PAWS moves an elephant by air

A Russian cargo plane, a four-tonne transport crate able to hold 200 litres of urine and a negatie Covid-19 test for a wild animal: these are just some of the things global animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS had to organise for the departure of the world’s loneliest elephant.

After months of preparation and more than 35 years of captivity, elephant Kaavan has started his journey from Marghazar Zoo in Islamabad to the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary in Siem Reap on 30th November.

There Kaavan will live a species-appropriate life with other elephants. The historic wildlife transfer is implemented by FOUR PAWS in cooperation with the Pakistani authorities, American businessman Eric S. Margolis and the NGO Free The Wild, co-funded by Cher. Kaavan, together with the FOUR PAWS team, is expected to land in Siem Reap in the afternoon of 30th November.

The release to his new enclosure is planned for 1st December.

“Information war” against anti-vaxx content online – report

With a significant number of Britons skeptical of a Covid vaccine, the army has reportedly deployed an “information warfare” unit to stamp out anti-vax propaganda online. Offline, citizens still protest lockdowns in the streets.

The British government is expected to greenlight a coronavirus vaccine and begin its distribution next month. In addition to the logistical challenge of getting millions of doses to the public, the government also faces the hurdle of convincing them to take it.

According to a recent poll by the British Academy and the Royal Society, more than a third of people in Britain say they’re either uncertain or very unlikely to take the vaccine.

According to a report in the Sunday Times, ministers are preparing to launch a massive public information campaign to convince people to take the jab. Behind the scenes, however, the Times reported that the British Army has mobilized the 77th Brigade’s Defence Cultural Specialist Unit to monitor and counter “online propaganda against vaccines.”

The unit was formed in 2010 and worked alongside psychological operations teams in Afghanistan, studying the behavior of the civilian population and giving cultural and linguistic advice to ground troops, according to the brigade’s own website.

However, according to a number of media reports, the unit counts at least one Twitter executive among its ranks and is said to create and manage fake social media profiles to shape public opinion.

The media discovered that the 77th Brigade’s specialty, according to a plaque on the wall of its Berkshire base, is creating “behavioral change.”

With the rollout of a vaccine imminent, the unit is “already monitoring cyberspace for Covid-19 content and analyzing how British citizens are being targeted online,” according to the Times.

The Times’ report does not detail exactly how the unit will fight back against anti-vax content, or even what kind of content will be targeted. A Ministry of Defence spokesperson told the Times that the brigade’s efforts are “not being directed at the UK population,” and leaked documents reportedly suggest that its strategy includes “gathering evidence of vaccine disinformation from hostile states, including Russia.”

Despite the apparent focus on Moscow as a hub of vaccine misinformation, Russia was the first country in the world to approve a Covid-19 vaccine, and a second Russian-made jab will be made available to the public next month.

Meanwhile, on the streets of London, crowds gathered on Saturday to protest the government’s lockdown measures, as a system of tiered restrictions will come into force on Wednesday.

Critics argue that this system is simply an extension of the current national lockdown, and as the demonstrators in London chanted “freedom” and “stop controlling us,” police arrested more than 150 people, mostly for defying these lockdown restrictions.

Gates Foundation pours another $70mn into pushing Covid-19 vaccines on 3rd world countries as safety & efficacy questions remain

While many feel unjustly controlled by the lockdown, the government has also reportedly deployed its intelligence agencies to control public opinion online. In addition to the 77th Brigade’s efforts, GCHQ – the UK’s signals intelligence agency – has been tasked with countering online disinformation, according to the Times.

Though its exact role in this fight remains unknown, the media revealed that the agency has previously“developed covert tools to seed the internet with false information,” manipulated online polls, and covertly influenced online discussion.

According to documents leaked by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, the British public have been targeted by GCHQ.

Amid the online information war, there have been over 1.6 million Covid-19 cases in the UK, as well as more than 57,000 deaths.

Our democracy imitates the Middle Ages, I call it a civil war!
I have no comment, but three I found excellent written and I add them:

1.”What is anti-vaxx anyway? To these goons, anti-vaxx is anyone (including a great many accomplished scientists) who query the establishment narrative or question fraudulent and biased big pharma studies. Why are our taxes and military being used to sure up multinational industries whose interests run counter to the interests and health of the folk of the nation”?

2.” Until Astra Zeneca can explain why two people in Britain and one in India and a bunch of monkeys suffered severe side effects as a result of having their vaccine, people should be very wary of taking any of this hokum.

3. so the population is now the enemy…

Morality is indivisible.

We want to save dogs and eat pigs
We would have nothing against the Chinese if, like us, instead of dogs, they would eat the “right” animals, i.e. cattle, chickens, pigs.

Morality is indivisible.
We are not allowed to kill and eat animals, ALL animals – not just dogs, but also … pigs, isn’t that so?
Murder is murder.
And eating meat is murder.
Without difference

Cruel corona animal experiments-business goes on

Senseless, cruel corona animal experiments

The well-known biologist, non-fiction author, and vaccination critic Clemens Arvay (“We can do it better”) recently posted on Facebook about the additional millions of cruel animal experiments for the completely senseless (the virus has already mutated 1000 times) and the highly dangerous new corona vaccination, which would directly genetically modify us humans and of which at least one human “guinea pig” has already died in Brazil (see, among others, in Heute. at https://www.heute.at/s/erster-teilnehmer-von-corona-impfstudie-gestorben-100108605):

“Locked up in cages. Vaccinated. Infected with the virus. Observed when sick. Killed after 7 days of infection, autopsied, and disposed of.

This is the fate of innumerable monkeys, brothers, and sisters.
I get sick studying all these vaccine studies. What a gruesome, by greed for money, and at the same time, hypocritical species is ours!
I will never finish my work, even if I would sometimes just turn away in disgust and move into a forest hut. (Clemens Arvay)”

And an initiative “Understanding animal experiments” installed by the pharmaceutical industry is lobbying for even more cruel animal experiments: “Without animal experiments, there is no corona vaccine” …”https://lokalo.de/artikel/214020/initiative-tierversuche-verhaben-ohne-tierversuche-kein-corona-impfstoff/ (!!!)

Therefore, please be sure to sign the “referendum for vaccination-free”, which will take place from 18.-25. January is in Austria to sign!

https://www.animal-spirit.at/news/grausame-corona-tierversuche

https://www.heute.at/s/erster-teilnehmer-von-corona-impfstudie-gestorben-100108605

And I mean…I don’t know about you, but the word corona creates anger of the highest order in me.
Because I think of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The King’s New Clothes”.
The narrative is cited today as an example to criticize gullibility and the uncritical acceptance of alleged authorities and experts.

The deception is so great that hardly anyone dares to question it:
– Who checks the vaccines for reactions?
– Are reactions checked?
– Why are our general practitioners not allowed to vaccinate?
-Why tested on animals when animals are not getting the virus?

The ridiculous initiative “https://lokalo.de/artikel/214020/initiative-tierversuche-verhaben-ohne-tierversuche-kein-corona-impfstoff/…will work “comprehensively, up-to-date and fact-based” according to its own statements.
This means: “When developing vaccines, animal experiments … examine possible side effects”.

And then comes the news: “The first participant in the corona vaccination study died”!
Now we can collectively wonder again how many of us human “guinea pigs” will survive this vaccination war.

animal experiments

The animals were the first victims to fall in vain, as always.
Because they couldn’t fight back.
Maybe we can do it better

My best regards to all, Venus

Hagebau ends the dirty business with reptiles

Hagebau withdraws from reptile sales after talks with PETA Germany

In 2015 and 2016, we at PETA Germany published extensive research into the sale of small animals and reptiles, which revealed serious deficiencies and terrible animal cruelty in numerous pet shops and their suppliers.
Since it was published, we have been in dialogue with a number of pet shops and hardware stores in order to promote the withdrawal from animal sales. Based on the talks, the company Hagebau announced in November 2020 that it would end the sale of reptiles from 2021.

A large number of animals do not survive the transport.

With our publications about the suffering of animals for the reptile trade, we were able to persuade the hardware store chain Hagebau to stop selling reptiles. In the past, we have pointed out several times that this is associated with immense animal suffering. The public criticism had already led to the fact that the majority of the Hagebau stores stopped selling reptiles in recent years.

In 2021, the last sales point for reptiles from Hagebau is to be closed.

We thank you for this animal-friendly decision and expressly welcome the trend-setting step taken by the Hagebau company for more animal welfare.
“Snakes, turtles, and exotic lizards can never be kept in a species-appropriate manner in living rooms. Hagebau has recognized this and is taking an important step in the direction of animal welfare by withdrawing from reptile scales,” said Jana Hoger, PETA Germany

With the sales stop from 2021, Hagebau is taking responsibility and making an important contribution to ensuring that no more reptiles are sold in Germany in the future.

Reptile sales: animal suffering supported by hardware stores and pet shops

Our publication in August 2016 provided insights into the unscrupulous trade in reptiles for the German pet market for the first time. Image material documented masses of the dead, injured, or for years locked up in plastic boxes animals at German wholesalers and their international suppliers.

At this reptile dealer, snakes are sometimes kept in small plastic boxes for over 10 years.

A study presented by the Federal Environment Ministry in March 2020 also confirms that the trade-in of exotic wild animals is contributing to the global extinction of species.
For reasons of species and nature conservation, action must be taken accordingly. When reptiles are caught and transported alone, up to 70 percent of the animals die from stress, insufficient supplies, or injuries caused by transport.

Many of the exotic animals sold in Germany also come from Asia, Africa, and South America as so-called wild-caught animals – they were previously wrested from their natural habitat.

Due to the unknown origin of the animals, it cannot be said in such cases whether or which deadly viruses and bacteria the reptiles carry.

The majority of all zoonoses, 72 percent, can be traced back to contact with wild animals.

  • Animal-lovers threw a going-away party before he leaves on Sunday after years of campaigning by activists
  • Pakistan’s only Asian elephant is set to be flown to a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia on the weekend

The world’s loneliest elephant kept in a tiny enclosure in a Pakistan horror zoo is finally leaving for a new life at a Cambodian sanctuary.

With music, treats and balloons, friends of Pakistan’s only Asian elephant threw a farewell party for the creature ahead of his relocation from Islamabad after years of campaigning by animal rights activists.

The plight of Kaavan, an overweight, 35-year-old bull elephant, has drawn international condemnation and highlighted the woeful state of Marghazar Zoo.

Conditions are so bad at the zoo that a judge in May ordered all the animals to be moved.

Kaavan is set to be flown to a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia on Sunday, said Saleem Shaikh, a spokesman for Pakistan’s ministry of climate change.

Romania accused of ‘silence’ over ship that capsized killing 14,000 sheep

An investigation into the Queen Hind sinking a year ago is yet to be published and the live export trade continues to boom

Romania has been accused of “complete silence” over its investigation into the sinking of the Queen Hind last November, which resulted in the deaths of more than 14,000 sheep.

Rescuers who rushed to the sinking Queen Hind vessel, which left Romania’s Black Sea port of Midia a year ago, managed to save just 228 sheep out of a total 14,600, but only 180 ultimately survived the ordeal.

Romania’s prime minister Ludovic Orban vowed on television last year to end live exports in the “medium-term”. However, since the Queen Hind disaster more than 2 million live animals have been exported from Romania – mostly to north Africa and the Middle East.

Romanian authorities have claimed the vessel was 10% below capacity and that the animals were “clinically healthy and fit for transport”. But campaigners say the vessel was overloaded and this ultimately led to the thousands of sheep drowning in the Black Sea.

The only information to emerge since the sinking has been the discovery of secret compartments onboard with dead animals inside, by the company hired to remove the ship from the water.

Romania’s transport ministry told the Guardian this week that investigations are concluded and said a summary of the report will be published on the ministry’s website. They also said that the purpose of the technical investigation was to establish maritime safety issues and to prevent future accidents, and “not to establish guilt in people involved”.

EU law stipulates that investigations into maritime accidents should be reported in full within 12 months, but that if a final report is not possible in that timeframe, then “an interim report shall be published within 12 months of the date” of the event.

“They promised a cross-check investigation to find out what happened, and since then – complete silence,” said Gabriel Paun, EU director at Animals International.

The Guardian contacted MGM Marine Shipping, the management company behind the Queen Hind, and they denied any knowledge of secret decks. They said company procedures hadn’t changed since the disaster.

“Nothing has changed, I don’t want to talk any more about this vessel – I want to forget about it,” a company representative said in a telephone call before hanging up.

A European commission audit on Romania between September and October last year, which aimed to evaluate animal welfare during transport by livestock vessels to non-EU countries, raised multiple concerns, including “a general lack of records in the system of controls to ensure animal welfare during transport by sea to non-EU countries”.

“There is no evidence of checks confirming that the animals are fit to continue the journey. The absence of documented procedures, records and support to official veterinarians in checking vessels provide little assurances on the effectiveness of most controls carried out,” the report said.

“The Queen Hind was an iconic example of the intrinsic failures of the system,” said Reineke Hameleers, CEO of Brussels-based Eurogroup for Animals, an EU umbrella group for animal advocacy organisations. “The EU likes to pride itself as a global animal welfare leader, but it still makes its hands dirty with this cruel industry.”

Guardian investigation found that livestock vessels are twice as likely to suffer a “total loss” from sinking or grounding as standard cargo vessels. Livestock ships are often old and originally built for other purposes before being converted to carry animals. The Queen Hind was 39 years old at the time of the disaster.

Mary Pana, president of the association of cattle, sheep and pig breeders and exporters in Romania, said: “EU competition with Australia and New Zealand is acute.”

“Naval accidents have happened to us and to them. But these are accidents … I trust the EC [European commission] will find an efficient way to change the current legislation so that the animals have superior welfare conditions for breeding, transport, and slaughter,” Pana said.

Campaigners have complained that since the disaster little has changed to improve animal welfare standards for live exports.

“These are not five-star cruises,” said Paun. “I’ve spent time on cargo ships and conditions cannot be improved – there are always an enormous amount of problems that occur, and there is not one single [long-haul] shipment where there are no animals dying.”

Vasile Deac, a veterinarian and owner of a live export company, said a ban on live exports would harm the livelihoods of Romanian farmers.

“The live animal export trade is very important for Romanian farmers,” Deac said. “If there was no live export market farmers wouldn’t have anywhere to sell their animals and it would be a big loss for them.”

“As an exporter it’s very important for me to see the ships that the animals are exported on,” he said. “The Queen Hind was an accident, it wasn’t done intentionally.”
