WAV Comment – I must be one of those consumers that the FDA thinks ‘does not understand’ the difference between milk from a cow and milk from a nut. What’s more; the following video makes it all the more difficult to understand – this man seems to be milking Almond nuts ! – and I thought you only milked cows; unlike many humans though; I do know that a cow has to be in calf in order to produce milk; that she is constantly artificially impregnated to achieve this; and any males she produces are either shot at birth or sent off at a very young age to be housed in crate type systems – causing immense distress for the (mother) cow and also for the calf.
Milking Almond nuts for Almond milk must be very specialized; but as the video shows, there are some who are prepared to do it. As the FDA says; people really must be informed more about this whole system. Enjoy the video; and try hard not to laugh too much !
Court Dismisses Lawsuit That Would Have Outlawed Labelling Almond Milk as ‘Milk”
The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has dismissed a court case claiming that Blue Diamond’s almond milk is deceptively mislabeled and confusing for consumers.
This decision backs up a ruling by the United States District Court for the Central District of California, which dismissed the case made by Cynthia Painter in May 2017.
The plaintiff insisted that Blue Diamond’s almond milk should be labeled as “imitation milk,” in a weak argument that alleges consumers are not smart enough to distinguish between dairy-based and plant-based milk.
The complainant alleged that the company “deceptively markets its almond beverages as nutritionally equivalent or superior to dairy milk when, in fact, almond beverages are nutritionally inferior to dairy milk.”
Thankfully, the courts did not buy into this argument, acknowledging that consumers are aware of the products they purchase and putting a quick end to this ridiculous case.
This case is seen as a desperate attempt by the dairy industry to stifle the growing demand for plant-based alternatives. The court docket itself states that while sales of almond milk increased by around 40% between 2013-2014, dairy milk sales declined.
Rather than attribute this demand to a growing ethical and moral consumer drive, they claim that it’s because consumers think almond milk is the same thing as cow’s milk.
The memorandum released by the court of appeals concisely debunks the argument, stating:
“Painter’s complaint does not plausibly allege that a reasonable consumer would be deceived into believing that Blue Diamond’s almond milk products are nutritionally equivalent to dairy milk based on their package labels and advertising. The district court correctly concluded that “[n]o reasonable consumer could be misled by [Blue Diamond’s] unambiguous labeling or factually accurate nutritional statements.”
Although it’s reassuring to see the courts take a stand against such claims, plant-based dairy alternatives are still under the spotlight of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
In September 2018, the FDA issued a notice inviting public comment on “Use of the Names of Dairy Foods in the Labeling of Plant-Based Products,” targeting things like vegan cheese, milk, and yogurt. The agency state that they are concerned that consumers may not understand the nutritional differences between dairy and non-dairy milks.
Canada wants to work for a healthier diet for its citizens. The country takes milk and dairy products from its food pyramid.
Milk is unhealthy! That’s what Canada’s government claims. The country is currently working on its dietary guidelines. In the future, citizens should therefore largely refrain from using products such as milk, butter and cream. And the new food pyramid looks pretty vegan. So many vegetables, fruits, whole grains and vegetable protein, instead of animal protein in the most important place. Also unsaturated rather than saturated fatty acids should preferably be on the daily nutritional plan.
In Germany, milk and dairy products rank fourth.
According to German standards, cereals, cereal products and potatoes are the most important factors for a healthy diet, followed by vegetables and fruits.
The milk lie
Milk is healthy, important for the bones. Dairy products such as quark are good sources of protein. It’s been infused since childhood. But this claim is now more and more doubted.
As early as 2014, a Swedish study questioned the supposedly positive effects of milk on bone formation. So far, only the benefits of milk consumption have been given priority. Thus, milk contains 18 out of 22 essential nutrients that are important for bone formation. Therefore, for example, for the prevention of osteoporosis, it is recommended to drink plenty of milk.
For the study, data from a total of 61,433 women aged 39 to 74 years and 45,339 men aged 45 to 79 years were interviewed regarding their dietary habits. In addition, long-term observations took place over 22 and 13 years, respectively.
Result of the study
The result showed that men with increased milk consumption had no fewer fractures. Fractures were even more frequently found in women. Terrifying: For women who consumed at least three glasses of milk daily, the mortality rate during the observation period was 93 percent higher than for women who consumed less than a glass of milk a day.
In men who drank a lot of milk, an increased mortality rate was also confirmed, but to a lesser extent.
Milk consumption not provided by evolution
Eating milk and dairy products is a matter of course for most people these days. However, this milk culture has developed only in the last millennia. Consumption is not evolutionary intended for humans namely. Most of the world’s population was lactose intolerant from the start. Just as it is today in many parts of the world, such as Asia and Africa. Therefore, the milk was later processed by dairy farmers into cheese and cottage cheese, as this barely has more traces of incompatible lactose. Only a random gene mutation, which prevails in part, made it ultimately possible for humans to drink milk carefree. Thus, lactose intolerance is not a disease, a defect or a blemish, but actually more natural than the ability to digest lactose.
“Milk is poison”, one reads often on the Internet. “Why is a whole country like Canada spilling milk? Canada no longer wants their populations ill, Canada wants to have healthy people in their country in the future and not sick people who are pumped full of hormones and antibiotics. ”
My comment: It’s a very good step forward, this decision from Canada.
But it still has to be accompanied by education.
It is not just the harmful effects of milk that forces us to give up.
Morality requires us to abstain from milk (and meat). Because both are associated with killing, suffering and mass animal husbandry.
The positive decision of Canada will prevail as society (and every society) learns to understand animals as valuable and equal beings in everyday life.

Professor Tasuku Honjo has been awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1), a key player in tumor immunology. He shares the award with Professor James P. Allison, who pioneered research on the immune checkpoint protein CTLA-4, another major pathway allowing cancer cells to evade the immune system.
Prof. James P. Allison (left) and Dr. Tasuku Honjo (right) were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in Stockholm on 10 December. For their experiments, they have bred mice with tumors. Only in the breeding of such a so-called model, there should be up to fifty committee animals. So animals that do not even survive the cruel breed. For the livestock then begins a life of agony. Locked up in a laboratory, the researchers make cruel experiments with them. Some die immediately, others have a painful life.
Tormented dogs, rabbits, hamsters, chimpanzees, sheep, cows, chickens, pigs and frogs form the basis of the work of the Nobel Prize in Medicine since 1901. It is no wonder that animal rights are trampled here. Alfred Nobel, the founder of the Nobel Foundation, was an explosives and arms dealer and was not even interested in human rights. Over three million land mines delivered his weapons factory in the world. How many children have lost body parts throughhis mines or have even died, can not count.

To be against animal experiments shows superior intelligence to the scientists performing these experiments.
Penicillin has saved more lives than any other drug. If it were discovered today, it would be different. Because it would not have passed the animal experiment, and thus would never be allowed for humans. The same applies to aspirin and insulin.
Animal experiments are not only cruel, they even hinder science.
Why are they being carried out?
1.A genetically modified rat costs up to 75,000 euros. So there are people who make a lot of money with it.
2.Researchers like to read about themselves in specialist magazines. They succeed best with a publication about an animal experiment. So there are people who accelerate their careers with animal experiments.
3.Then there are politicians who do not know or do not want to know.
And how are the experiments paid?
With taxpayers’ money for which citizens, animal lovers or not, have worked hard.
97% of all drugs tested in animal experiments are never approved!
Already in the breeding of animals for animal experiments, many animals are tortured and killed: On a useful “model” come about 50 animals to be disposed of.
More than 60 percent of all diseases are not curable, although researchers experiment with animals for decades.
They already exist, the animal-free, forward-looking research. For example, in-vitro testing and organ microchips are the most ground-breaking revolution of the future, and are already on the rise in the US and Asia.
The Netherlands, which want to be free of animal experiments by 2025, show that there is another way.
Also interesting are the contradictory justifications: From an ethical point of view: Animals are not as developed as humans, so we may experiment with them.
From a scientific point of view: Animals are so similar to us, so it makes sense to experiment with them. Both can not be true at the same time, right?

It was a race against time and the elements to rescue a dog trapped on a frozen lake, but one brave officer was willing to tough it out to save the animal. It happened in the Van province of Turkey.
A police diver swam out to the dog and then had to use his arm to break through the ice. The dog was suffering from hypothermia and needed medical attention right away.
Give that man a medal !

PETITION TARGET: Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi
Florida authorities have arrested nine people accused of running a sickening operation that had black bears chased, tortured and killed by packs of hunting dogs throughout various counties in the state.
Footage shared on social media reveals the depth of torture experienced by the bears, with one heartbreaking video showing a terrified, exhausted black bear attempting to escape up a tree before falling to the ground and being mauled to death by at least a dozen frenzied dogs.
Bears as young as one week old were savaged in these brutal attacks, the majestic animals so overwhelmed by the sheer number of dogs they were unable to fight back.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says their investigation found that two bears died as a direct result of the baiting and hunting, but authorities suspect many more were killed over the last year.
The nearly year-long investigation discovered the group using buckets of peanut butter, dog food, and stolen donuts to bait the bears before ordering the dogs to attack the helpless animals. Many of the incidents were filmed and used as “advertising” to sell hunting dogs. Florida county authorities have confiscated 53 dogs used in the operation.
It is illegal to hunt bears in Florida, and the perpetrators have been charged with felonies and misdemeanors including animal cruelty, illegally baiting and taking black bears, and RICO violations. Each person accused may face at least 30 years in prison.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and local authorities should be commended for taking this case seriously so far and working to shut down the operation. Sign this petition encouraging her to see this case through to justice, and push for a lifelong ban on the hunting or keeping of any animal for all found guilty.

Goal: End taxpayer funded animal experiments that kill hundreds of kittens each year.
Hundreds of kittens are forced to eat infected, raw meat as part of an experiment by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). These kittens are then euthanized at the end of this experiment. Demand an end to this wasteful and cruel experiment that uses taxpayer money.
A laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland breeds up to a hundred kittens per year, feeds the kittens parasite-infected raw meat, collects their feces for 3 weeks to track physical reactions to the parasites, and then euthanizes the kittens. This is a taxpayer funded experiment that has been ongoing for nearly fifty years. This experiment costs taxpayers $650,000 each year and is being conducted by the USDA — the very organization charged with enforcing animal welfare laws.
The most heart-breaking part of this may be that even the kittens which survive the experiment, and are perfectly healthy, are euthanized instead of sent to a rescue organization to be adopted by a loving family. This is a waste of life and an atrocious use of tax money. Sign this petition to tell Secretary Perdue that we are not okay with how our tax money is being used.
