London 11/11/23: Over 300,000 March In Support Of The Palestinian People And Children.

This weekend is remembrance weekend in the UK; when the British people remember and pay tribute to all those military AND animals who have been killed in war campaigns around the world.

There have been concerns that a pro Palestine march in London may clash with the remembrance event going on at the Cenotaph in Whitehall.  We understand that despite the huge numbers supporting Gaza / Palestine, it was only really counter demonstrators who clashed with police.

Having taken part in anti live animal export protests for decades; I am experienced enough to say that whatever you are protesting about, you will always get a segment of counter protesters intent on causing trouble or attempting to put your actions in a bad light.  Sadly, that is the way of demonstrations; you never know who is going to turn up and what they intend to do – more than often they have no relationship to the issue you are protesting about.

All credit to the hundreds of thousands who marched in London today supporting an issue they feel strongly about – Israel murdering thousands of innocent citizens and children in Gaza.

London – over 300,000 people (or 3 times the capacity of Wembley football stadium) have marched in London today, 11/11/23 in support of the people of Palestine; and calling for Israeli atrocities against the people of Gaza to stop.

Chants of “free Palestine” and “ceasefire now” could be heard as the protesters set off.

More than 80 people have been arrested after counter-demonstrators clashed with police in Tachbrook Street, Pimlico.  Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said counter-protesters went to the pro-Palestine march “intent on confrontation”.

Activist Steve Rains is attending the demonstration with his wife Jenny, 73, and son Adam, 39.

He said: “My parents fought in the wars for this country, and people talk about lest we forget — it’s not just about not forgetting the people who fought in the wars, but what they fought for. To stop this kind of thing happening – for children to be killed needlessly. There has to be another way.”

Jenny added: “I’m a mother and a grandmother, I’ve got four kids and seven grandchildren. My uncle Charlie died in WW2, I’m wearing my poppy, and it’s for people who die in all wars.”
