A bull seen rampaging through the streets of Birmingham has been rescued by an animal sanctuary in Norfolk.

West Midlands Police started to receive calls about the animal wandering around near New Bond Street in Small Heath at around 9.30am on Friday.

Videos soon started circulating social media, sparking hundreds to plead for his protection.

The team at Hillside Animal Sanctuary – based in Frettenham, near Norwich – received several calls from concerned members of the public and sprung into action to offer to take him in.

When he was not claimed by anyone else, the police and Birmingham City Council agreed and the team immediately set off to collect him.

“He arrived back with us at 2.45am on Saturday morning,” Hillside’s founder, Wendy Valentine, explained.

“Our patron Martin Shaw, a proud Brummie himself, is delighted that Liam, as we have named him, has been saved rather than being shot as so often happens in these situations.”

Instead of the heartbreaking alternative, Liam will now be able to “live out his natural life” alongside 750 other rescued cows at the sanctuary.
