Plumploris are not sweet toys!!

They have big, spherical eyes, live in treetops and their favorite pastime is certainly not to be tickled. We are talking about Plumploris, a primate species native to Southeast Asia.
Sweet as the monkeys are, they live so dangerously. Their biggest enemy: the human being, who subjects the Plumploris to a torturous treatment so that they can finally be considered cute pets!

plumplori

They are spreading like wildfire in social networks: videos of these sweet exotic monkey race – the articles are being lied, commented on and shared thousands of times.

The result: more and more people want to keep such an exotic animal as a pet!!

Slow_plumporiFemale

What many are unaware of – behind it is unspeakable suffering for the individual animal, poaching and illegal trade and even the eradication of whole Plumplori species.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, (IUCN for short), Plumploris are among the “critically endangered” species.

Since 2007, the sale of animals is prohibited. Still, they are still hunted on a large scale, caught alive and sold to exotic animal markets. Especially in Japan and China, Plumploris are welcome pet animals.

illegaler-wildtierhandel.jplumpori pg

The information about the agonizing treatment that Plumploris has to endure for their pet use is deliberately kept secret.
Plumploris are among the few mammals that are poisonous. On their forelegs they have a gland that produces a secretion that unfolds its toxicity in conjunction with their saliva. Even a bite of the cat-sized, nocturnal animals is poisonous.

Teeth are pinched off!

The “logical” consequence for black market traders, who scent the big business with the sale of the small animals: The teeth must be gone. Thus, the canines of Plumploris are pinched right after catching. This has fatal consequences: every feeding becomes agony and the open wounds can cause serious infections.

Often this not only leads to severe inflammation, but even to the death of the animal. Apart from that, one knows too little about the feeding habits of the monkeys, with the result that many animals die in captivity due to malnutrition.

plumplorijpg

Very few people know that the Plumploris, who are considered to be particularly trusting, can only be lifted up and stroked without resistance because the silent persistence is part of their defense strategy.

And also a gland on the elbow produces a strong poison, which, in combination with saliva, can even be dangerous to humans. The supposedly “sweet” videos on which the lories stretch their arms over their heads to be tickled show just that – a defensive attitude and a warning.

plumpori kitzeljpg

The ETN (European Animal and Nature Conservation) has therefore set itself the task of educating consumers on why the exotic animals are not pets and what are the serious effects of keeping the animals. We want to make Internet users aware that every “like”, “sharing” and positive comment has devastating consequences for the whole species.

Help for the animals – very concrete

The ETN not only clarifies, but also provides applied and concrete help. Therefore, we also support projects that help the animals who have become victims of illegal trafficking – ideally projects in which the animals end up living in their natural environment.

A research project funded by the ETN helps to keep the diseased and often traumatized Plumploris in reception centers in the best possible condition and to prepare them for life in the wild, as far as possible. In addition, it will examine which measures in captivity are best suited to promote the natural behavior of animals – thus avoiding behavioral problems and allowing the animals to survive in their natural environment in case of later release.

5plumporiso

In addition, the research results are used to make recommendations for the attitude of the Loris – as well as other monkey species with similar food and behavioral spectrum, for the rescue stations. This allows confiscated animals to be cared for as effectively as possible worldwide and, ideally, prepared for reintroduction.

If you also want to help protect Plumploris and other exotic species, support our education and share our Petition:

My comment: I found the video below on the internet.
At the beginning of the video, which lasts 4 minutes, a German Undercover journalist appears as a potential buyer of a Plumploris. The vendor, a woman, at the animal market tells him that the operation must be done via a poacher, because that’s illegal !!
He does it.
At the end of this video, we learn that the poacher gets 2 euros per animal because he’s just the middleman in this business.

And now comes the moral of the story: The German Undercover journalist confesses that he can not judge the poacher, because he does that to feed his family, and that’s barely enough for that.

Such videos are even more dangerous than the Plumploris’ handsets on the Internet.
They represent perpetrators as innocents victims of the demand.
They need to feed their family, so we have to understand (that is: forgive) that they are destroying other families of other beings, and selling the small members of these families, the monkey babys, to the market for 2 shit Euros.
No one is to blame, misery is to blame for everything …

The buyer demands what is already on the market, and this market requires “products” that the poachers and the end dealers invent and operate.
According to the same logic, rapists would be forgiven for necessarily satisfying their sexual needs.
In the case of murderers one can even rely on the instinct of aggression (after Konrad Lorenz, an important biological function for survival).

And that assassins, arms dealers, kidnappers and blackmailers have to feed their family is out of the question.

Deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon surged last month to the highest May level since the current monitoring method began, prompting concerns that president Jair Bolsonaro is giving a free pass to illegal logging, farming and mining.

The world’s greatest rainforest – which is a vital provider of oxygen and carbon sequestration – lost 739sq km during the 31 days, equivalent to two football pitches every minute, according to data from the government’s satellite monitoring agency.

Unless the government sends a clear signal it will not tolerate a further acceleration, environmentalists fear there will be an increase in the coming months that could make 2019 one of the worst years for deforestation in recent memory.

Global: Today, 5th June, is ‘World Environment Day’.

wed 4

Today, 5th June, is World Environment Day.

https://www.standard.co.uk/futurelondon/cleanair/world-environment-day-2019-uk-theme-air-pollution-un-a4159936.html

https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/what-causes-air-pollution#agriculture

Created in 1974 by the UN, World Environment Day happens every June 5. Hosted by a different country each year—this year it’s China—the day seeks to raise public awareness of environmental issues.

“The celebration of this day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment,” says the UN’s website.

wed 2

How much pollution we breathe in is dependent on many factors, such as access to clean energy for cooking and heating, the time of day and the weather. Rush hour is an obvious source of local pollution, but air pollution can travel long distances, sometimes across continents on international weather patterns.

Nobody is safe from this pollution, which comes from five main human sources. These sources spew out a range of substances including carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxide, ground-level ozone, particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, hydrocarbons, and lead–all of which are harmful to human health.

WED 3

Agriculture

The major sources of air pollution from agriculture include livestock, which produces methane and ammonia, rice paddies, which produce methane, and the burning of agricultural waste. Methane emissions contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone, which causes asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Methane is also a more potent global warming gas than carbon dioxide – its impact is 34 times greater over a 100-year period. Around 24 percent of all greenhouse gases emitted worldwide come agriculture, forestry and other land-use.

There are many ways to reduce air pollution from agriculture. People can move to a plant-based diet and/or reduce food waste, while farmers can reduce methane from livestock by optimizing feed digestibility and improving grazing and grassland management.

WED 6

Industry

In many countries, power generation is a leading source of air pollution. Coal-burning power plants are a major contributor, while diesel generators are a growing concern in off-grid areas. Industrial processes and solvent use, in the chemical and mining industries, also pollute the air.

Policies and programmes aimed at increasing energy efficiency and production from renewable sources have a direct impact on a country’s air quality. At the moment, 82 countries out of 193 have incentives that promote investment in renewable energy production, cleaner production, energy efficiency and pollution control.

Transport

The global transport sector accounts for almost one-quarter of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions and this proportion is rising. Air pollution emissions from transport have been linked to nearly 400,000 premature deaths. Almost half of all deaths by air pollution from transport are caused by diesel emissions, while those living closest to major traffic arteries are up to 12 percent more likely to be diagnosed with dementia.

Reducing vehicle emissions is an important intervention to improve air quality, especially in urban areas. Policies and standards that require the use of cleaner fuels and advanced vehicle emissions standards can reduce vehicle emissions by 90 percent or more.

Household

The main source of household air pollution is the indoor burning of fossil fuels, wood and other biomass-based fuels to cook, heat and light homes. Around 3.8 million premature deaths are caused by indoor air pollution each year, the vast majority of them in the developing world.

Out of 193 countries, 97 countries have increased the percentage of households that have access to cleaner burning fuels to over 85 percent. However, 3 billion people continue to use solid fuels and open fires for cooking, heating, and lighting. The adoption of cleaner, more modern stoves and fuels can reduce the risks of illness and save lives.

Major dog meat market in Busan to close next month

By Jung Min-ho

After years of criticism from animal rights groups, the largest dog meat market in Busan will close next month.

According to Busan Buk-gu Office, all 19 dog meat sellers at Gupo Livestock Market have agreed to shut down their businesses by July 11.

In return, the district office promised to give about 3.1 million won ($2,700) to each of them every month until December 2020 to help them make a new start.

After announcing its urban planning project to turn the market area into a park last October, district officials tried to persuade the sellers for months to open different types of businesses in other areas.

Animal rights activists welcomed the agreement.

“We wholeheartedly welcome and support the district office’s effort to end the trade of dog meat in Korea,” four animal rights groups, including Korea Animal Rights Advocates, said in a joint statement.

“It is a big step forward, but Korea still has many such markets, including Chilseong Market in Daegu … We will continue to work with everyone to end the practice of eating dog meat.”

14/6/19 is the 4th annual day of action against long distance live animal transport – and it is the biggest yet.

Last year, 2018; individuals and organisations from more than 30 countries staged over 100 actions against the trade in animal suffering.

In March 2019, the European Parliament voted for a ban on EU live exports to countries with lower welfare standards. So this June 14th you have the chance to help in keeping up the pressure to turn this breakthrough into legislation that could stop the suffering of millions of animals every year.

England: I like to ‘shoot’ animals – with a camera, not a gun. Fox Fan, and Proud of It !

flagge-england_jpg

I like to shoot animals – with a camera, not a gun.

Just imagine the benefit to all there could be if the shooting was only allowed through the lens of a camera by the governments of many nations where gun (trophy) hunting is currently the norm of the day. Money for governments; money for endangered species conservation; and above all, nations who wish to show that they still have decent people amongst them.

Here are a few shots I have recently taken of ‘my foxes’ who come to the house each day. What a pleasure to see and welcome them. They are safe !

At the last elections in England, ‘Vinny the Fox’ stood for Parliament.  Sadly he was not elected; but we are sure that he would have put animal welfare even higher up the agenda – and in the UK it is pretty good anyway:

Trophy Hunter Who’s Killed 5000 Elephants Says It Gives Him ‘A Thrill’

By : Charlie Cocksedge On : 09 Apr 2019 12:45

Ron Thomson/Elephants

https://www.unilad.co.uk/animals/trophy-hunter-whos-killed-5000-elephants-says-it-gives-him-a-thrill/

A trophy hunter who claims to have killed more than 5,000 elephants and 50 hippos says he has no regrets, and is ‘10,000 times’ unrepentant.

A new report from the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting revealed the man – Ron Thomson – had shot numerous animals, contributing to the rapidly declining population of elephants in the wild.

As well as elephants, the trophy hunter claims to have killed 800 buffalo, 50-60 lions, 30-40 leopards, and ‘about 50 hippos’, and racked up 25,000 hours of hunting.

Thomson, a father of two, insists his hunting is not motivated by bloodlust, but that he does it to help animal populations survive, believing that if some species are not reduced, their growing numbers would destroy their own habitats.

The hunter also accused conservationists of spreading ‘fraudulent lies’ about wildlife in order to extract money from the public, according to the Independent.

Thomson said:

I’ve done enough in my lifetime to satisfy any ‘bloodlust’ people may think I have. It wasn’t bloodlust – it was my job.

I didn’t have any sentiment. I’m totally unrepentant, a hundred – ten thousand – times over for any of the hunting I’ve done because that’s not the problem. The problem is we’ve got a bunch of so-called experts from the West telling us what to do. I’m a trained university ecologist – I must surely know something about this.

I wish I could take you by the shoulders and shake you hard and say ‘don’t assume everything you’ve heard is correct’. The African elephant is nowhere near extinct. People who say this are animal-right-ist NGOs who ask for money and tell lies to get it. When you have a healthy population you must ensure they don’t increase beyond the capacity of their habitat.

In an interview with The Guardian last year, Thomson said it was ‘a great thrill’ to him to kill an animal, and that he enjoyed it.

trophy hunter ron thomson

According to the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, elephant populations have plummeted since the 1980s, from around 1.3 million to 400,000 today.

Eduardo Gonçalves, founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, said:

The trophy hunting industry is slaughtering elephants left, right and centre.

Killing elephants for ‘fun’ is unacceptable, even more so because of the serious threat to its survival.

Trophy hunting is a cruel and abhorrent hangover from colonial times. The recent surge in
elephant hunting shows the industry is out of control. It threatens to push endangered
species to the point of no return.

As part of the campaign, Michael Palin has written a letter to UK prime minister Theresa May calling for a ban of trophy hunting, saying: ‘Of all the threats to our wildlife, trophy hunting seems to be the least justifiable and the most despicable’.

Yulin: a city in blood orgies

China

Yulin: Soon it’s time again!!
Despite criticism, on June 21, 2019, there is a big crowd at the dog meat festival in the southern Chinese city of Yulin, where more than 10,000 dogs are slaughtered live.
The protests of animal rights activists have started in Yulin and a ban is also being demanded in other cities in China. But the sellers invoke a tradition celebrating the summer solstice, and dogs are simply being captured from the streets everywhere, waiting for their painful suffering.

rescued-dogs-yulin-dog-meat-festival-china-25

The Yulin Festival is not a centuries-old tradition: it was only launched in 2010! And many say it serves mainly the meat industry, which wants to boost their sales.

Tens of thousands of dogs, as well as cats, are brutally tortured before they land on their plates. The more pain the dog or cat experiences, the more adrenaline is released in the body. This ensures that the meat becomes tough.

yulin Hund angebundenpg
The customers demand tough meat because they falsely believe that tough meat increases the potency of the man.
Also stolen pets or sick street dogs load in the cooking pots. People from China and around the world are calling for protest.
Not all Chinese eat dog meat and many Chinese are calling for stricter legislation to ban dog meat trafficking.
Since 2008, Beijing has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to get a positive image abroad.
These include the Beijing Summer Olympics, Shanghai Expo 2020 and the 2022 Winter Olympics.
These efforts are enormously expensive.
If the Chinese government closes and bans the dog meat festival in Yulin, it can improve China’s image and it does not cost anything!
But instead of acting, animal rights activists in China are now being locked up.

China has no animal welfare law

According to Chinese media reports, pet thieves operate shamelessly. Sometimes they stun their prey with poisoned arrows. When they have collected dozens of animals, they make a deal with a dog meat trader. The traders then bring the dogs to slaughterhouses. The path for a dog to the slaughterhouse is agonizing.

hundetransporte in chinapg

The dogs are not checked for diseases and one of the biggest threats is the spread of rabies. According to statistics, thousands of people die of rabies every year. The report of the Chinese Ministry of Health shows that exactly the four provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan and Guangdong are affected, where people prefer dog meat. The report also shows that Guangxi has the highest cancer rate in China. Another problem is the poison the dog thieves use. It can also be deadly to humans.

People eat dog meat because they still believe it is good for health. They even take the animal cruelty into account, because a dog should suffer before, so that the meat works. But just the opposite is the case. For chicken, pork or beef there are food safety checks, not for the dog. It is not a clean, safe and healthy food and nobody knows where it comes from.

yulin-6

The festival should take place in a few weeks and time is pressing. Sign the petition:

My comment: Is not it the same thing we do with pigs, sheep and calves?
These animals would also like to become our pets if we had not locked them in mass cages.
In Germany alone, 50,000 piglets a day land in the garbage cans, which are waste and are not needed. Half dead, they die an agonizing, slow death after they were beaten on the ground.

Yes! it’s not just the Chinese who are the criminals.
But that does not mean that a criminal is justified because another similar is practiced.
Torture and sadism of animals everywhere is a criminal, no matter in which nation.

And we will do our best to abolish this festival

Not because we believe that house animals do not belong in our plate and therefore have a special status in our morals.
But because we condemn torture and sadism against ALL animals, we will do our utmost to put an end to this barbarous festival too.

Anyone who fights for the good fights an ultimately hopeless fight.
But for those animals and for those people we can help with, this help can mean the difference between life and death, between happiness and disaster.
Given the endless suffering on earth, all we can do about it remains a drop in the ocean. But anyone can help a being or a few beings. And then, after all, we can say that without us the world would be even worse, the suffering even greater. ” (Helmut .F. Kaplan)
