Undercover footage shows chicks being bashed to death at Polish poultry farm

Undercover footage of an industrial chicken farm in Poland has revealed staff boasting about killing sick animals “just like Hitler at Auschwitz.”

The film shows one worker bashing the tiny birds to death on a metal rail before throwing their bodies into buckets.

It also reveals staff picking up large numbers of dead or rotting animals from the floor of the huge facility in the western county of Strzelce-Drezdenko. 

Poland is Europe’s biggest producer of poultry meat and exports around 65,000 tonnes to the UK every year.

Animal protection organisation Open Cages said the crowded and filthy conditions on the broiler farm were similar to those in this country.

“The only difference is the level of cruelty and violence shown in the video which we have not seen so far in the UK,” said spokeswoman Kirsty Henderson.

Open Cages has been unable to confirm whether any chicken from the farm reaches the UK.

The video was filmed over six weeks by a farm worker, “Adam”, using a hidden camera. 

He recorded an employee demonstrating how to kill chicks who were either too sick or too slow to grow, grabbing them and smashing their skulls against a metal rail.

One of the animals killed was a three-legged chicken. Another was blind.

The employee was recorded explaining: “Just like Hitler with Auschwitz, you do the same here.”

“What I documented on this farm illustrates the daily aspects of cruelty related to chicken farming the world over such as overstocking, bone fractures, heart failure and animals who have grown so fast they can’t walk,” said Adam.

“It also illustrates what we deem to be illegal animal abuse like inhumane slaughter and the throwing and stepping on of animals.

“The cruelty I witnessed will stay with me forever.”

Legendary bullfighter mauled and scalped by bull in horrific accident

Veteran eyepatch-wearing Spanish bullfighter Juan Jose Padilla sustained horrific injuries while being mauled in the arena by a raging bull in front of a shocked crowd.

A graphic video from the northern Spanish city of Arevalo shows a large bull charging at 45-year-old Padilla, known as ‘The Pirate’ to his fans after losing his right eye in a previous bullfight.

Trying to evade the animal, Padilla fell, and the bull proceeded to maul him on the ground, tearing off a piece of his scalp in the process. Despite receiving several blows from the bull, the severely injured and bloodied Padilla managed to stand up on his own as others rushed to the rescue and chased away the bull.

WAV question – why did others rush to his rescue ? – surely this is portrayed as a man vs bull encounter ? – if he is injured by the bull, then let the bull take further action ! – one on one, surely ?

Padilla underwent emergency surgery and had the part of his scalp that was torn off successfully stitched back on his head. “I’m very well, and want to assure everyone that my condition after the incident is good,” the bullfighter told the Spanish paper Aplausos on Sunday, adding that he hopes to continue bullfighting after he fully recovers.

Padilla is one of the most famous bullfighters in Spain. Aside from winning multiple honors and being praised for his bullfighting skills, he is also prone to disaster – he was wounded 38 times prior to the incident in Arevalo.

He nearly died in 2001 when, during a bullfight in Pamplona, a bull pierced him in the throat. He lost his eye in 2011 after a bull gored him in Zaragoza. That fight also ended for Padilla with a broken jaw and skull, as well as loss of hearing in his right ear.

Last year, he was gored in Valencia. A bull pierced him in the thigh and chest, leaving Padilla with a punctured lung.

Every year in Pamplona, from the 6th to the 14th of July, the San Firmin, a feast in honor of the holy Firmin, are celebrated. Every morning at 8 o Clock 6 bulls are rushed through the narrow streets of the old town together with several steer oxen to an arena. In the arena, at the evening, up to eight Toreros are attached to a bull, spiked him again and injure him with daggers and Banderillas. This lasts until the bull is weakened by the loss of blood. “Tormenting and slaughtering animals for our entertainment is a Stone Age spectacle,” said the 33-year-old Peta activist. Criticism came also from the German animal protection federation.

The spectacle was an ordeal masquerading as a cultural tradition (!!!), said Federal Managing Director Thomas Schröder.
