Dogs are brutally killed in Corfu! Slain, poisoned or buried alive. There is nothing that “humans” would not be able to do. Nothing but brutal animal cruelty! If they are left helpless, then they may still have a small chance of survival. But in dog shelter is a blood fight for survival. With living conditions that may have been copied from Romania.
Greece: the dogs of Corfu (Video)
My comment: The fight against animal cruelty in Greece has long been necessary – and from the EU side!
And? Nothing was done and will be nothing. Because these abandoned, helpless creatures do not make a profit.
Greece has now reached an incredible level of brutality and fascism against animals.
It is supported by a cowardly, indifferent society, which is largely responsible for the misery of stray animals, but/and also by corrupt and work-shy officials who do not even know the animal welfare law and if so, they ignore it.
The few active animal rights activists have turned their homes into shelters and try day and night to improve this situation. And, as a rule, they are warred, offended and despised by those who are primarily responsible for this misery.
Corfu is otherwise a very beautiful island, but who hears, sees and experiences the animal cruelty around it, can not enjoy a holiday there.
Two amazing high school students in Bombay just added hundreds of young people to the Animal Aid family through “Take a Paws,” a sensational fundraiser for Animal Aid Unlimited.
Held in their high school (Bombay International School) Diya Chitrabhanu and Ananyaa Mehra took care of every aspect of this special event from staging performances, selling tickets for 3 weeks prior to the event, and collecting over 2 lakhs (about USD $3000)in donations from students and many other donors.
This money will provide medicine for more than a hundred animals in treatment for wounds and illnesses.
Diya and Ananyaa sold Animal Aid tee-shirts and caps, food and gave everyone who attended not only entertainment but animal protection information and inspiration. Attendees watched singers, dancers and Animal Aid rescue videos, and were moved by Diya and Ananyaa’s powerful vision of a kinder world where animals are protected by all of us.UN LAB Middleware Label: Petition Body Ends
Badly wounded but cheerful older dog, Moti thrived after his rescue
The massive hole near Moti’s ear must have hurt so badly, but his tail wagged when he greeted his rescuers and he was the best little patient ever. He had a very serious maggot wound with dozens of small tunnels bored through his flesh. We removed the maggots, cleaned and dressed the wound, changing his bandages daily for several weeks. We felt that because of his loving nature he thrived on care and attention and this helped him heal especially fast.
Street animal rescue saved darling Moti’s life. Please donate.
Celebrate the Caregivers: Shanta Bai!
Shanta Bai Gameti has been with Animal Aid for six years, cheerfully helping animals by making sure hundreds of blankets and towels are washed and hung out to dry every day so that dogs, and large animals too, can have fluffy and dry bedding. This might sound like a minor task but it is not. Even though we do have a washing machine, it can only take small loads and even those loads have to be thoroughly rinsed clean before loading. So it’s hand and muscle work. We celebrate Shanta Bai today for her enduring high spirits, serving countless animals by keeping them clean and comfy.
We thank you deeply for all you do, are, and inspire for animals.
WAV Comment: This was intended to stop any dog meat being eaten by folk when in the UK. We are not talking a ban in Vietnam or Korea; this is in the UK. But now scared UK desk pushers have got the jitters that the UK is ‘offending cultural sensitivities in the Far East’ by not allowing dog meat to be eaten here in the UK. Seems that the UK is not allowed to make laws for the UK for fear of upsetting someone from somewhere else.
Maybe we will have to introduce bullfighting into the UK very soon for fear of upsetting ‘Spanish Tradition’. Don’t nations governments make laws for their own nations any more ?
Mr Gove is a good man who tried to stop this – the scared UK pen pushers giving in to animal abuse on cultural grounds once again ! – Pathetic !!
A NEW legal ban on eating dogs (in the UK) has been blocked by Justice Ministry bureaucrats for fear of offending cultural sensitivities in the Far East.
Mr Gove (above) attempted the right thing with a ban IN HIS COUNTRY- the UK.
Former DEFRA Secretary Michael Gove ordered the move in the summer despite the sickening practice being rare in the UK.
Dog groups persuaded him that it would send a powerful message to South East Asian countries where the practice is still rife, matching a similar law passed in the US last year.
But The Sun can reveal that nervous civil servants have stepped in to halt the ground-breaking move.
‘CULTURALLY INSENSITIVE’
Campaigning Tory MP Giles Watling was told by the MoJ that one of the reasons it acted was that it would be “culturally insensitive” of the Government to dictate to other nations what they should eat.
Mr Watling told The Sun last night: “Dogs are our companion animals. We do not eat them, and that is a very important message to send to the rest of the world.
“It’s not culturally insensitive because we’re not telling them what to do – we’re just telling them what we do.
“We shouldn’t be worrying about that, so I was surprised that was the MoJ’s objection.”
Justice officials also argued that it would be difficult to enforce the law and the current ban on transporting or exporting dog and cat meat suffices.
Eating dog is already banned in Germany, Austria, Taiwan, South Australia and Hong Kong.
An estimated 30 million dogs a year are slaughtered to be eaten, across China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Most are stolen off the street.
Their meat it is considered both a delicacy and a health tonic.
The World Dog Alliance mounted a campaign in the UK last year for a full ban on any activity relating to the eating of dogs.
A series of MPs back a ban, including former Foreign Office minister Sir Alan Duncan who dubbed it “a disgusting habit”.
A Ministry of Justice spokeswoman said: “We currently have some of the strongest animal welfare laws in the world.
“The government is currently considering whether any changes are needed in this area in the UK and will set out any plans in due course.”
Helping animal protectors is, in many ways, as important as helping animals directly. We’re delighted that Animal Aid was chosen by by Animal People Alliance, an animal rescue organisation in Kolkata, to train 5 of their staff in an intensive month-long session covering treatment, documentation and case prioritization techniques.
In addition to focusing on treatments, thorough health exams, handling and how to interpret animal behaviors, we taught the APA team our approach to answering tough questions on a daily basis: Which cases are immediate priorities? Who can wait a couple of hours for treatment later in the day? Who has healed? Who needs more time?
The staff from APA were amazing learners and they will save thousands of Kolkata sweethearts in the coming years.
Mother dog helps rescuers dig for her buried puppies
This frantic mother dog’s love of her puppies has her digging with paws, biting at stones and tearing at the rubble to free her buried babies who are trapped after a house collapsed in the rain.
When Animal Aid’s rescuers arrived, they feared the puppies might not be alive, but their Mama must have been able to sense that they were still alive and she was determined to tell us so. Every minute was precious and she seemed to realize that they could suffocate at any moment. You’ll never forget this incredible portrait of a blissful rescue and a mother’s unstoppable love. For a mother, nothing is more important than the safety of her children.
Jaanu had an enormous wound but wagged his tail anyway!
A passing motorcycle must have caught a piece of this brave dog’s skin, so deeply that it ripped away an enormous slab almost to the bone. But Jaanu was eager to please, and seemed so grateful for help that he calmly came with his rescuers and wagged his tail throughout a month of intense wound dressings.
He was young, strong, and the wound was fresh when we reached him, so the skin around it was healthy and granulated well with moist bandaging.
Walking skeleton dog transforms after rescue: Meet Beautiful Mary!
Weary and weaving with illness, this desperate girl was dying from mange when we rescued her. She was too weak to resist, or maybe somehow she knew she needed our help. Without us, she only had a few days of life left.
Mange is particularly dangerous for street dogs because when they itch, they tend to keep moving, leaving their home neighbourhoods. Only in the advanced stages do they slow down. And that’s why we could find her, and save her life.
Please donateto keep our ambulances on the road, arriving in time to save a beautiful life like Mary’s.
Lena waited patiently for her rescuers with a huge laceration
Wagging her tail with what almost seemed recognition, this incredibly sweet dog lay utterly still with a bleeding slice from chest to belly after falling into a dry well. Once back in our hospital we stitched up Lena’s wound and watched her beautiful recovery.
You can tell an animal “I’ll help you” too. Please donate.
Celebrate the Staff: Lalit!
For the millions of people who have watched and loved Animal Aid’s rescue videos, they might stop to wonder who’s behind the camera during the animal treatment scenes, or who’s capturing the joy in the happy endings segments.
Meet Lalit Kumar, who has served as our in-house videographer for the past 3 years. Lalit focuses on the face and eyes of the animal, often crouching down to be at animal-eye level; he works cheerfully in mud and baking sun; he has to be subtle and call no extra attention to himself, especially while filming in areas where there are many curious noses ready to poke in and investigate.
Lalit’s great camera work is one big reason why Animal Aid is one of the most viewed animal channels in the world, inspiring people everywhere to treat animals better, and to help them when they’re sick

Officials in Indonesia have pledged to end the nation’s dog meat trade, a move which will save up to 2,000 dogs from slaughter and human consumption per month.
The regency of Karanganyar in Java pledged the action following a shocking investigation by Dog Meat Free Indonesia (DMFI), which uncovered evidence of dogs being bludgeoned and blow-torched alive in animal markets.
The victory has been welcomed by Ricky Gervais and actor Peter Egan, both of whom are celebrity ambassadors for DMFI and who thanked the head of district, Bupati Juliyatmono, for his role in the pledge.
The plan to end the horrifying trade includes closing every stall selling dog meat in the regency, as well as the creation of alternative livelihoods for those currently reliant on income from trading in dog meat.
Investigations by DMFI – a coalition between several animal protection organisations such as Change For Animals Foundation and Humane Society International – showed dogs being beaten and strung upside down to bleed out, all the while still conscious and in full view of other terrified dogs.
Campaigners are hopeful this new pledge will mark the start of a nationwide movement to tackle this dangerous and illegal trade, although they say the governor of North Sulawesi, Olly Dondokambey, refuses to act.
The province of North Sulawesi is currently central to dog and cat meat trade activity, with approximately 200 ‘extreme’ animal markets operating each day.
Wendy Higgins from Humane Society International, a DMFI coalition member group, said:
Indonesia is a popular tourist destination for millions of travellers including about 360,000 Brits each year, but the country’s natural beauty is hiding an ugly secret that many tourists will be unaware of.
Visiting local markets is often promoted by tour guides but innocent travelers could be exposing themselves to horrific scenes of animal cruelty as well as dangerous diseases like rabies.
The national government has issued a crackdown but for as long as local regions like North Sulawesi simply ignore that, the killing and the risk to tourists continues.
Although dog meat is only consumed by seven per cent of Indonesia’s entire population, the trade remains a significant threat to public health – particularly with regards to the transmission of rabies.
Rabies, a viral, and potentially fatal, disease that infects the central nervous system is a serious threat worldwide with 55,000 deaths per year – more than 50 per cent of which are in Asia, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Currently, 24 provinces in Indonesia are Rabies endemic, with those with the greatest demand for dog meat among those with the highest prevalence of the disease. According to DMFI, the North Sulawesi Province has some of the highest numbers of human deaths attributed to rabies in the country.
Despite the lack of action in North Sulawesi, the progress being made in Karanganyar and Yogyakarta is enough to give DMFI campaigners cause for hope.
In Karanganyar, every one of the estimated thirty dog meat-selling stalls throughout the regency will be closed, with the local government already hosting a meeting with the traders to announce the ban and to discuss alternative livelihood opportunities.
The Yogyakarta Provincial Government separately drafted a Mayor’s Regulation for approval, through which a ban on dog meat would be implemented.
You can sign the petition to ban the dog meat trade throughout Indonesia here.
Totally ban the feeding of food waste to all animals! We condemn the Ministry of Environment and
the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
for their inability to propose proper legislation (without loopholes)
on the issue of the feeding of food waste to animals.
SOUTH KOREA – The nation of Samsung, Hyundai, LG, Kia thinks that dogs are nothing more than garbage disposals! South Korea wants to continue feeding dogs decomposed, maggot infested food waste; unfit for any animal to eat. This food waste is contaminated with disease causing germs, toothpicks, hot red peppers and onions – toxic to dogs! Cruel, absurd, insane and disgusting!!
URGENT! Tongyeong, South Korea: Punish the dog butcher bludgeoning dogs to death!
Dog butcher in Tongyeong, South Korea is daily bludgeoning dogs to death in front of other terrified dogs and the local government authority is doing nothing about it. This video is not a replay of same clip over and over. Each of these were recorded at different times. This psychopath criminal has 40 to 50 dogs in his farm and the dogs are killed in this horrific way. This is a violation of the Animal Protection Act. We want the city of Tongyeong to punish this criminal and shut down the hellhole dog farm/slaughterhouse immediately. Please sign and share!
