Have A Great and Productive 2020 With Your Campaigning – From Mark and Venus.

get involved 2.png

Well here we are again drawing this time to the end of another decade – and despite all the bad issues that we have shown on the site; after all, that is what we exist for; to inform people about the bad stuff; with the hope of change; looking back it has also been a very productive year in 2019 for the welfare of animals.

ROMANIA-SAUDI-ARABIA-SHEEPS

Looking back; the recent disaster at Midia which took the lives of so many innocent sheep is one issue that I cannot forget. The authorities want us to, but after many years involved with live export; it is an issue very much engrained in my ‘system’; I hate it and will forever fight to stop it; all the way to the grave.

Animal Aid Unlimited in India are an organisation that I have so much respect for. Where do you start with them ?

23,550 calls requesting help for sick or injured animals in Udaipur. Each year more and more people in the city are becoming aware that they can do something when they see an injured animal, by a simple call for help, they are making their first step into becoming an animal protector.

9,384 animals were admitted in Animal Aid’s hospital to receive life-saving medical treatments for serious injuries and illnesses. About 26 new patients were taken in each day. We attempt to cover many of the stories here on WAV; just type in ‘Animal Aid Unlimited’ into the search box to get links to all the past videos.
In addition to the work back at base, AAU also provided 1,092 street treatments for animals who did not require full hospitalization. 1,317 dogs were spayed and neutered once they healed from their injuries. 3,728 incredible volunteers and visitors enriched the lives of animals, many of whom served the animals more than 2 weeks!

AAU also vaccinated 8,266 dogs against rabies both in their hospital and also directly on the street. Finally, 40 animal activists from across India have learned first aid principles and techniques from the intensive AAU First Aid Training Program.

Now that is something to be proud of, and we wish Erika and all the crew there an even better 2020 with their work.

Bloodbath

Also, 2019 can be viewed as the year in England when the Hunting Act of 2004 was given long term protection and we will never legally return to the old days of wild animals being hunted to death by those with nothing more than a ‘bloodbath’ blood lust.

Jill xmas animals asia.jpg

We must never forget Jill and the team at ‘Animals Asia; – it is probably best that we give their link as so many positives are covered. https://www.animalsasia.org/uk/our-work/ – with the young and a new positive view on how animals should be treated, we look forward to the day when bear bile farming and the dog meat trade in the Far East are confined as atrocities carried out in past times – rightly in history books where they belong.

The destruction of the Environment is a massive concern for every one of us. The deaths and suffering that is going on in Australia at this very moment, combined with recent events in Amazonia largely to increase space for cattle grazing at the cost of the indigenous peoples only shows that those in power there have one thing on their mind, and nothing else; and that is called ‘money’.

circus no smile.png

Circuses and sea life centres are really being shunned by the educated public now; and we very much welcome that. It is fantastic to see that some dolphins are even being returned to purpose built sanctuaries for them; where they can once again return to the type of lives that were cruelly taken from them in the past.

Turning to Serbia; it has been a positive year with regard the fur industry. We personally worked with the team at ‘Respect for Animals’ http://www.respectforanimals.org/ in England, and with Slavica and Serbian activists, supplying lots of information and undertaking lots of research which led to getting the fur farming ban introduced at the start of 2019; saving tens of thousands of Chinchilla in the process – http://www.respectforanimals.org/serbian-fur-farming-ban-comes-into-force/

In the United States, there have been some really positive moves; and we thank all our US visitors for the work they have done behind the scenes. California has become the first US state to ban the sale of animal fur products http://www.respectforanimals.org/history-made-as-california-fur-ban-becomes-law/ The new legislation, AB44, bans the manufacture and sale of new fur products across the state and is already considered to be the most ground-breaking moment for the anti-fur campaign for many years. We hope and look forward to other states following the example of California.

veganfaces3.jpg

Staying in the USA, we have seen a lot of positives with regard ‘killing contests’ – where animals are deliberately killed for prizes etc. In recent months we have seen bans introduced in Massachusetts, Arizona, as well as Coyote killing contests in New Mexico.

Food has been a big issue in America; with many major food chains now providing plant based options as part of the menu. This is great news and reflects the huge amount of people that have decided to change to a plant based diet, thus contributing to cutting down on global warming which is an intrinsic part of the meat production system; and which is very much responsible for some of the huge fires that we have witnessed this year in Amazonia due to forest clearance to make more grazing area for meat cattle. Many of America’s largest food chains have now moved to producing Vegan foods for consumers as part of their range – https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2019/03/20/usa-americas-biggest-food-companies-are-moving-to-meatless/ .

We thank Stacey at Our Compass https://our-compass.org/ for working with us, and giving links to many issues and videos associated with a meat free Vegan diet. Thanks Stacey; and keep up the great work !

We also say “thank” to our companion commentator Slavica; under the name “eparslavicaepar”, (we know who she is) for the faithful accompaniment (almost) for each article. Comments are a strengthening of our work, even if they are critical!

Whizzing over to South Korea, we wants to give thanks and credit to Korean Dogs.org https://koreandogs.org/ for all their tireless work aimed at stopping the live dog and cat meat trade. On the site given, you can find endless ways to give your support to their work, and we encourage you strongly to do that.

Cage age 1

Back here in England, we need to highlight the huge amount of work being done by CIWF all over the world on so many different farm animal issues;   https://www.ciwf.org.uk/our-campaigns/ from the ban the cages campaign in Europe, through to helping pig producers in China to be more animal welfare considerate and change (improve) their methods of farm animal husbandry.

All in all; we have just skimmed the surface of what has been a very positive and productive year (in 2019) aiming at helping animals across the world. We cannot cover everything as it would take far too long, but we know that you, our friends and supporters are able to investigate a lot more about specific issues that may be of concern to you.

To try and give you a little assistance, we have provided on our site an A to Z listing of major animal welfare organisations, complete with their web site links, in order that you can hopefully find out a bit more much easier. Here is the link to this section:

https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2019/03/31/animal-welfare-organisations-links-to-websites/

We wish you all a great year in 2020 campaigning for the rights of, and being a voice for animals all over the world. You usually find that animal rights people often have a big interest in human rights also; and we try to do a little here as well. Check out one of our links associated with the Amazon forest peoples https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2019/08/27/indigenous-ecuadorian-women-speak-out-to-support-the-brazilian-amazon-rainforest-people/

… and for me (Mark), I especially wish to give support to free Tibet from the current rule of China which is covered so fantastically by London based ‘Free Tibet’ – https://www.freetibet.org/

Be a voice and fight the fight – results are never immediate and campaigns can take a long time to win – just look at the League Against Cruel Sports (London) – formed in 1924; but it was not until 2004 that they managed to get Hunting with dogs stopped for wild animals – https://www.league.org.uk/about-us

You Can Run, But You Cannot Hide !

Queen’s new outfits will now be fur free

Respect for Animals has welcomed the news that the Queen will no longer be wearing fur in her new outfits.

Her personal adviser and senior dresser Angela Kelly wrote in her new memoir that Her Majesty will only wear fur-free new items for engagements due to changing attitudes in the country.

Any outfits designed for the Queen now will use fake fur instead.

In her book, titled The Other Side Of The Coin: The Queen, The Dresser And The Wardrobe, Ms Kelly says a coat worn by the Queen in Slovakia in 2008 has since been altered.

The coat’s trim, which originally used mink fur, has been replaced with fake fur.

However, this is likely to be an exception, as reports now suggest that fur on current clothing will not be replaced, and the Queen will continue to re-wear existing outfits in her wardrobe.

Good news: Bogner will soon be fur-free!!

bogner

👉We are celebrating a great SUCCESS at the end of the year: 🎉BOGNER is FUR FREE!
After a long campaign and many intensive discussions, we were finally able to convince Bogner to get out of the fur business✊🦊

The exit from the fur business will be gradual. Fur will no longer be sold in its own Bogner stores and in Germany by the winter of 2021/2022.
The fashion company worldwide will completely exit by the winter of 2022/2023.

PS: We are aware that it will take a while until 2022/23, but this decision is a success because it will also put pressure on other fashion companies to finally become fur-free and pave the way for a fur-free future.
For example, last year we managed to get the Breuninger fashion chain to exit the fur business.

You can find more about this and the campaign at:

Sorry! that’s still part of coat!

My comment: Yes! I still remember the campaign against Breuninger fashion chain, I participated in this campaign.

Only those who have the experience with such street actions know how annoying it is to discuss with the people who wear fur and still come to provoke.

They don`t want to learn anything new, they are not even curious about the photos of the bloodied carcass animals from the fur farms ..They justify their crimes with every stupid and cheeky argument that can be imagined.

But we won at that time! Breuninger became fur-free! that’s what always counts, the result.

“Better naked than fur”!

Do you remember the documentation of the organization of the German Animal Welfare Office?
The animal rights activists have documented the conditions on the Polish farms in recent weeks and found wild animals in cages everywhere. We had reported about that (https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2019/11/16/poland-mecca-of-the-fur-industry/).

Now they had a great idea to continue this campaign to the public!

Germany, Cologne: Animal rights activists from the organization (German animal protection office) fight against real fur clothing.

anti pelz kampagne jpg

Draw blank for animal welfare!
On Wednesday, four activists from the German Animal Welfare Office demonstrated on fiberglass naked on pedestrian zone in Cologne. Under the motto “better naked than fur” Jan (39), Konstantin (21), Julia (41) and Moritz 29) marched through the city with banners and loud appeals.

lieber nackt als PelzThe four brave animal rights activists.
The first from the left is Jan Peifer, the founder of the organization.

Julia said to “BILD- newspaper: “It took a lot of effort to overcome, but I like to do it because I know what the purpose is.”

lieber nackt als pelz 4pgThe passersby reacted differently – sometimes laughing, sometimes embarrassed.
The highlight of the nude protest: The animal rights activists showed their buttocks in front of the shop “Femme”, which sells real fur.

lieber nackt als pelz 3jpg

Activist spokeswoman Denise Weber (31): “The animals live all their lives in a confined space, are then killed and then the fur is removed. We want to take action against this. “

Many people don’t even know they’re wearing real fur. Because sometimes there are hats with a real fur pompom under 10 euros.

https://www.bild.de/regional/koeln/koeln-aktuell/nackter-tierschutz-protest-in-der-koelner-city-66781682.bild.html

My comment: 25 years ago, in 1994, numerous celebrities supported the naked protest against fur, which PETA started as a first NGO in its protest campaign with prominent models.
They also undressed at the time, to protest against fur.

naomi-Models-rather-go-naked_gegen Pelz jpgEmma Sjöberg, Tatjana Patitz, Heather Stewart-Whyte, Fabienne Terwinghe and Naomi Campbell (left to right) undress for the welfare of the animals. / © Patrick Demarchelier for PETA

I find the direct naked appearance of the brave activists very strong. And is perhaps more effective, because such a provocation is remembered not only as a naked parade but as a naked reality.
And maybe abolish the next fur purchase.

We never know how an action affects society.
From our experience, however, we know that the more this society is confronted with animal suffering, the greater the chances of a change.

Russian fur industry: producer of animal torture

russland jpg

At the beginning of the Christmas shopping season PETA publishes for the first time a report about the Russian fur trade. The video material taken by PETA Asia’s eyewitnesses shows atrocities from five different farms.

These shocking images taken show a Russian fur farm where rabbits have their heads hacked off and chinchillas are electrocuted and have their necks snapped. The images come from PETA’s first expose of the fur trade in Russia and were reportedly taken across five farms in the country.

In the video, animals can be seen being kept in tiny cages when a worker takes a white rabbit and hits it on the head with a metal pipe.

ruschische Pelzfarmen 2pgA worker can then be seen slitting a white rabbit’s neck while it was reportedly still conscious.

ruschische Pelzfarmen 5pgA rabbit is hung upside down before being decapitated at a Russian fur farm in images taken from PETA’s first exposure of the fur trade in the country

The clip then shows a chinchilla being electrocuted before its neck is snapped. Animals including foxes, minks and sables can be seen in tiny wire-mesh cages.

ruschische Pelzfarmenjpg

PETA report one chinchilla was seemingly blind but still forced to breed. The report adds that one worker at the farms said that animals are killed if they relieve themselves in the “wrong” area of the cage as “any animal must be clean, if you produce not clean skin, you’re losing a lot of price.”

ruschische Pelzfarmen 7A caged mink at a Russian fur farm. The shocking images were taken during a PETA sting into the Russian fur trade and shows chinchillas having their necks snapped

The investigation was carried out in October 2019 and a worker reportedly told the eyewitness that the farm they work on sells 30 percent of their product to Kopenhagen Fur.

Kopenhagen Fur is an auction house which sells animal skins to companies throughout the world.

PETA Senior Vice President of International Campaigns Jason Baker said: “Every compassionate shopper should keep firmly in mind that behind every fur coat, collar, or cuff is a filthy wire cage, a shrieking animal, and a blood-soaked slaughterhouse floor. This holiday season, PETA is urging everyone to help give some peace to these tormented animals by going fur-free.”

The report states that the regulation of animal welfare in Russia is practically “non-existent” and added that the country does not have any laws to protect farmed animals.

PETA asked consumers, designers and retailers to join other fur-free designers and retailers such as Zara, H&M, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Versace, Gucci, and Michael Kors.

ruschische Pelzfarmen 8

Mick Madsen, director of communications for Fur Europe, a company which represents the fur sector in Europe, said: “It is mistake to claim chinchillas and rabbits produced in Russia are sold at European auction houses, and it is mistake to believe PETA’s ideological campaigning provides a reliable image of animal welfare in fur farming.”

PETA alleged that another facility it investigated supplied furs to Saga Furs, a Finnish fur auction house that markets itself as a responsible and ethical source for fur, describing itself on its website as having “a reputation as the world pioneer in responsible fur breeding.”

A Saga Furs spokesperson told Newsweek: “Any allegations that Saga Furs is provided fur from farms in Russia which treat animals unethically is denied in full. Saga Furs takes the ethical treatment of animals very seriously and at all times requires farms used to comply with strict criteria and regulation. We have received no evidence or substantiation to suggest that any farms providing fur to Saga Furs have been the subject of PETA’s alleged investigation.”

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7755033/Rabbits-clubbed-head-undercover-footage-exposing-brutality-Russian-fur-farms.html

My comment: As soon as something becomes public, nobody wants to appear as  collaborator of the Russian fur industry.

And despite the demonstrable, documented torture in the Russian fur farms, the Finnish Saga Furs company wants to tell us that it takes animal ethics very seriously!!

But the animal Dachau of this world take only money and profit seriously, they know no ethics and no inhibitions in the torture of animals.
Perhaps the Russian fur Dachau are no better and no worse than any other fur Dachau  in the world.
But that’s not why we shouldn’t report it.

Fur farms are concentration camps and no longer have a right to exist, nowhere in the world.

My best regards to all, Venus

Mike Ashley’s House of Fraser removes fur products after customer backlash

Real fur clothing disappears from shelves and online.

Fur has been removed from House of Fraser’s stores after consumers voiced anger at the department store’s reintroduction of products that campaigners say lead to animal cruelty.

The department store banned animal fur more than a decade ago but the policy that was recently reversed under the ownership of Sports Direct founder Mike Ashley, who bought House of Fraser last year.

Just days after animal welfare campaigners and customers began voicing their anger at the move, House of Fraser performed another U-turn.

Jackets made using fur from wild, trapped coyote as well as factory-farmed rabbit and raccoon dog from China and fox fur from Finland, were no longer on sale on Friday.

Racks in House of Fraser’s flagship Oxford Street store that had been photographed full of real fur products earlier in the week had been replaced with other items.

A store manager confirmed to animal welfare group Humane Society International that there was currently no real fur available on the shop floor at any House of Fraser sites nationwide.

Claire Bass, UK executive director of Humane Society International, said: “We are delighted to see that cruel animal fur products have been removed from House of Fraser’s website and stores nationwide.

“Mike Ashley has been hit by a tsunami of public protest, with thousands of messages from shoppers shocked and appalled to see this respected high street store turned into a House of Horrors, selling fur from factory-farmed rabbits, foxes and raccoon dogs as well as coyotes trapped and shot in the wild.

“British shoppers have sent the message loud and clear that fur is bad for business, and has no place on the British high street.

Poland: Mecca of the fur industry

German Animal Protection Office: We discover animal cruelty on Polish fur farms and save Fox Masha

Poland

Dear animal friends,

My name is Denise Weber and I have been involved with the German Animal Protection Office for many years. During this time I have already seen a lot of animal suffering and uncovered. But today, I would like to draw your attention to our new undercover research: We reveal the indescribable suffering of the animals on Polish fur farms: a short life in the cage, narrowness, fear and a cruel death waiting for the animals.

pelzfarm

For decades we fought together with other animal rights activists in Germany for the fact that there are no more fur farms – with success. In April of this year the last fur farm of Germany was closed. Although there are no more fur farms in Germany, fur is still sold nationwide on jackets, hats and accessories. We have therefore investigated the question of where these furs originally came from.

Fuchs-Pelzfarm-Polen-20161

The trail led us in our research into neighboring Poland. With more than 800-1000 fur farms with a total of more than 5 million fur animals, Poland has become one of the largest fur producers in Europe in recent years.
In recent weeks, we have documented the conditions on the Polish farms and found the worst conditions on the ground: mink, raccoon dogs and foxes, all animals are kept in tiny cage crates and suffer extremely under the conditions.

screenshot-fuchs-farm-poland-kanibalismus

Mink farms with more than 100,000 animals are not uncommon. Such farms are not only very large, but are also very well guarded and secured by the fur farmers. Some farms have built high walls with barbed wire and even watchtowers and video cameras so nobody can look beyond the shiny facade of the fur industry.

Over 8 million mink, fox and raccoon dogs are killed each year in Poland for fur.

polar fuchs pg

Nevertheless, we managed to film with a drone, among other things, how the animals live in such establishments and, above all, suffer. In addition to the huge farms, there are also many small, even together timbered farms with about 100-1,000 animals. Especially in these small farms we found injured and sick animals.

(Unfortunately, I could not find an English version for the German text of the video. But you can only understand everything by the pictures)

Masha, the little polar vixen, however, had incredible luck, she was not killed and is allowed to live. As part of this undercover research, we have rescued her from a Polish fur farm.

mascha pg

Seeing the suffering of the animals on the fur farms deeply touched and shocked me.
It is inexplicable to me how one can lock a wild animal in a cage and let it suffer so.

But I know, only we can make a difference by not buying fur products and educating fur carriers about the animal tormenting conditions and asking them to stop buying and wearing fur.

So now I’d like to ask you: Share our campaign video with all the people you know so that we can open our eyes to as many people as possible. I am sure that the fate of Masha will cause many people to rethink!

My comment: Poland offers fantastic conditions for the fur industry and not only encourages the locals to build more farms. One mink can be kept here on an area of 0.18 square meters, for each additional animal the legislator plans an additional 0.068 square meters. This corresponds to the EU standards!!

There are the politicians who also earn money with their lobby work for the fur mafia. EU Commission wants to strengthen fur farming with its devious “EU reference center for animal welfare”.

Every year in late autumn, when the coat is thick and fluffy enough, is “harvest time”. That is, the animals are brutally killed. In foxes, this is usually done by electricity. The snout is closed with a forceps-shaped electrode and a metal rod inserted into the anus. A surge then kills the animal.
Minks are usually gassed. Then the fur is pulled over the animals’ ears.

In the meantime, a lot of undercover videos have even been shown by the state media, so NOBODY has a “I did not know”.

They are sentient beings who spend a cruel time on this legal Dachau, stand on tight boxes, with grids under their paws, and suffer a cruel death!
They are not invisible products!
They are living beings.

If we want to talk about a civilized world, a similar campaign against the fur should have been started for a long time, as it started with the cigarettes.

My best regards to all, Venus

Slovakia: bans the fur hells!

“Humanity is also about our relationship with animals.” (Zuzana Caputová)

-flagge-slowakei-

It is fixed! Slovakia bans fur farms! Animal rights activists cheer!

Since yesterday it is clear: Slovakia becomes the fifteenth country in Europe with a fur farm ban. After a mere seven-month campaign by the animal rights organization Humánny pokrok (human progress), yesterday was the day.

20191018_pelzfarmverbot_pelztieregal

The Slovakian Parliament adopted an application for a ban on fur farming with an overwhelming majority of 117 out of 150 votes. With the blessing (signature) of President Zuzana Caputová, the ban on fur in Slovakia is now fixed.

A total of 76,000 people have signed a petition for a fur farm ban in Slovakia. According to surveys, 68 percent of the population supported such a ban.

From 2021 no new fur farms may be built, from 2025 the last fur farm has to close.

Fur farms hell on earth for animals

At the moment, there is a mink farm in Slovakia that has 5000 animals killed each year and eight rabbit farms, as informed by the association against animal factories. The animal welfare organization had launched an anti-fur farm campaign months ago and published pictures and videos from mink farms, among other things.

Pelz Tier im Käfig

The images show sick minks with open wounds that live in barren, dirty, tiny lattice cages exposed to the weather. Since there are no animal welfare standards in fur farms, the animals are at the mercy of the owners. For mink and rabbit hell on earth.

minkmink-1

Obviously for farm ban in Austria had an impact on neighboring countries.

It was the Association against Animal Factories (VGT), which at that time was instrumental in the ban on fur farming in Austria. Already since 1998 the keeping of animals for production in Austria was forbidden according to § 25 Abs 5 animal protection law.

However, the ban on fur in Austria had an impact on neighboring countries, such as the Czech Republic or even Slovakia. Austrian fur farm operators switched to these and continued to produce there. To prevent such a shift in the future, it would need a fur sales ban as in California.

Only a week ago, the governor of California, the fifth largest economy in the world, signed a bill banning the sale and production of new fur items from 2023 onwards. In addition, trap trapping for fur is prohibited in the future.

“It is a great victory for animals and a sign that the Slovak society is making progress and tens of thousands of people are ready to work for the animals and their protection.
Slovakia has taken a big step forward today and we hope that this is the beginning of a new, better future for animals in our country. “
(Martin Smrek, President of Humánny Pokrok)

“It is a good sign to make animal welfare a political issue in Slovakia, and we hope that we can also address other issues of animal cruelty.”
Frederika Fratričová, campaigner at Humánny Pokrok

My comment: Thank you Slovakia 👍
Another country that prohibits fur farms. Unfortunately, the transition period for existing farms lasts until 2025! Nevertheless, it is a success that will hopefully be joined by many more countries.

Other countries that are currently considering legislation to end fur farming are Ireland and Bulgaria. We wish soon, very soon, a similar ban from these, or best, from ALL  countries!

My best regards to all, Venus
