Sen. McKell, actress seek to end gas chamber euthanasia in animal shelters
For the third straight year, a bill pushing to end the use of gas chamber euthanasia at animal shelters has reached the Utah Legislature.
Sen. Mike McKell, R-Spanish Fork, announced the introduction of Senate Bill 108, “Animal Shelter Revisions,” at a press conference Wednesday in the Utah Senate building alongside animal rights activist and actress Katherine Heigl.

Animal rights activist protest naked in Madrid
They demanded the Spanish government close all fur factories
More than 50 naked animal rights activists covered in red paint protested in Madrid shouting slogans. The members of the international animal rights organisation “AnimaNaturalis”, protested in the centre of the Spanish capital, demanding the closure of fur farms.

Hamtramck council approves Islamic animal sacrifices at home
After several months of contentious debate and pressure from Muslim residents, Hamtramck City Council voted Tuesday night to allow the religious sacrifice of animals on residential property.
Muslims often slaughter animals during the holiday of Eid al-Adha and Hamtramck has one of the highest percentage of Muslim residents among cities in the U.S.
The all-Muslim city council voted 3-2, with Mayor Amer Ghalib casting an additional vote in favor making it 4-2, to amend a city ordinance to allow religious sacrifice of animals at home. After the vote to approve, applause broke out from members of the public, who packed the meeting to speak out before the vote.
