The truth is that it’s NOT OK!

Affe im Zoo hinter Gitternpg

To begin to understand why it is immoral to exploit animals, it’s important to look at the euphemisms we use whenever anything negative happens to someone.

“He was like a lamb to the slaughter.”

“They were treated like farmed animals.”

“We were stared at like animals in a zoo.”

“They milked me for all I was worth.”

Why do we use these expressions for anything negative at all if what we do to animals is OK?

The truth is that it’s NOT OK. If it’s wrong to commodify humans in such a way, then so too is it wrong to commodify non-humans in such a way.

We are not so special and other animals so worthless that it is wrong for these things to be done to us but morally acceptable for us to do these things to them.

Circus Roncalli: 360° Holografie instead of animal cruelty

flagge.jdeutschlandpg

Come in, walk in – come and marvel!

nicht-mehr-echte-elefantenpg

On the stage of the Circus Roncalli elephants with long tusks rise again on a pedestal and bow.
But after the show, the animals do not have to be in a tight cage and across the highway to the next town. Because: they are not real, but created holographically. For its new, animal-free concept, the circus of animal welfare organizations such as Peta is classified as “exemplary”.

Roncalli has banished wildlife from his program since 1991, and last year circus director Bernhard Paul said goodbye to the last animal actors – the horses. At least from the real ones: instead, horses made of stardust run through the ring as holograms; more than a million gold particles are animated according to Roncalli press spokesman Markus Strobl.

-holografischen-pferden w760

In 2018, the first holograms were shown at Roncalli. This makes the circus the first to work with holographic animals. But not the first animal-free: Even circuses like Cirque du Soleil or Flic Flac rely on acrobatics and Co. instead of animals.

elefant kopfüber holographiejpg

The times have changed. Many of these circuses have long since canceled their sails, and the whole “circus” concept has also seemed a little out of time. Those who still travel the country with their programs face a sharp headwind. This often has to do exactly with the circus animals, because PETA and other organizations, but also more and more individuals refuse the conditions under which the animals have to live.

Bernhard-Paul-Direktor-des-Circus-Roncalli-jpgBernhard Paul-director of the Roncalli Circus

The animal welfare organization PETA calls Roncalli the “most animal-friendly circus” in Germany. She not only praised Roncalli’s avoidance of animal suffering, but also that the circus has recently offered only vegetarian and vegan food before and during the show.
Meanwhile, the company also waives plastic in its food and beverage offer. “We want a circus that thinks with us,” says Bernhard Paul.

roncalli schildpg

The circus director is aware that this innovation has also “hit the nerve of the times”. But that was not the reason for it: “That was a lonely decision of mine, in which many have said: ‘But this will be difficult without animals`. It was not. It was right. We notice what’s going on in other circuses that work with animals. ”

For example, animal rights activists have repeatedly protested against animal shows in circuses, and Circus “Belly” has caused a stir in recent years with court cases involving its chimpanzee Robby.

Gericht entscheidet über Zukunft von Schimpanse RobbyRobby-in the enclosure of the circus “Belly”

People have become more sensitive to animals in their awareness, says Paul. “It is clear that in a circus you have to transport the animals from city to city and that the places are not necessarily suitable for animal husbandry.” He also got a “guilty conscience”.
“It is not necessary to have animals in the circus, nothing is missing”, he is sure. When he announced in shows that they are now free of animals, applause followed. And the circus also receives prominent letters, as press spokesman Strobl reports: “Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin wrote us a fan mail and invited us to America. ”
Bernhard Paul has also been invited to Silicon Valley.

My comment: The attempt to introduce a wildlife ban for circuses, there was already several times and has failed to corrupt German politicians.

And so far nothing has come of it: Three attempts in the Federal Council, 2003, 2011 and 2016, failed because of the blockade of the Union parties and because of the veto of the competent Federal Ministry.

The argument: The introduction of a ban would be equivalent to a professional ban, animal traders would thereby become unemployed!!!. Other European countries are more stringent: For example, in Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Ireland and other countries there is a ban on wild animals in the circus. In a few countries, such as Greece and Cyprus, animals in circuses are generally banned.

Thank you, Roncalli!
Now I can go to the circus again.
No animals are abused and “broken” for the amusement of stupid circus visitors.
I hope that other circuses will take Roncalli as a role model and make the same decision.

My best regards, Venus

Today (14/6) Has Been ‘Stop Live Transport International Awareness Day’.

stop live transport

Today (14/6) has been the ‘Stop Live Transport International Awareness Day’; a global day of action against the transportation of live animals.

As it is now late in the evening, we do not currently have reports and pictures of the events of today; but we shall be covering this soon when more information is provided.

In the mean time we will give you the link to the CIWF (London) web site, which has been one of the key players in this event,

The site link is   –   https://www.ciwf.org.uk/

Watch the video made by CIWF of Scottish calves being driven to Ramsgate in Kent; before onward shipment in mainland Europe. As you will have seen on past post we have made on this site, these very young calves are all males; a by product of the dairy industry which in reality does not want them – only female cows produce milk and as such are the only ones required to replenish the herd on dairy farms and facilities.

Here below is the video – Published on 1 May 2019

An investigation documenting the live transport of calves from Scotland to the port of Ramsgate (Kent, England) and onto Abbeville, France.

As it is now late in the evening here in England, we do not currently have reports and pictures of the events of today; but we shall be covering this soon when more information is provided.

More to come on this very soon, as we get reports in.

Canada: stops the captivity of whales and dolphins!

Flagge-von-Kanada

It is a great success for marine mammals suffering from marine zoos: Canada has banned the confinement and breeding of orcas, whales and dolphins in captivity.
For the first time in history, the Canadian parliament voted in favor of an animal welfare law.
The decision will put an end once and for all to the cruel practices of the marine zoos that we have been protesting for decades by PETA.

Zoos and aquariums that violate the ban must expect a fine of up to $ 200,000.

Delfin-203875_1920-Pixabay

Decision for the animals after years of procedure

For almost four years, the ban went through legislative procedures in Canada.
Meanwhile, many animal exploiters like the Marineland or the Vancouver Aquarium tried to stop the ban.
Fortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful and the law was passed. Throughout the process, lawmakers received tens of thousands of e-mails and phone calls from animal rights activists who supported the ban.
PETA USA also held numerous protests and convinced ocean zoo sponsors to stop supporting them.
Independent Senator and former Judge Murray Sinclair, who led the bill through Parliament, comments on the ban as follows:

“This bill is simple and clear. It is based on the assumption that it is very cruel animal cruelty to keep these beautiful animals in just those enclosures in which they were previously held”.

Im Urlaub kein Tierleid unterstützen: Delfinarien meiden

Existing animals will continue to be detained

The Marineland and the Vancouver Aquarium are the only two ocean zoos in Canada still holding whales and orcas.
The facilities may keep their present animals in captivity and use them for profit purposes. However, they are prohibited under the new law to breed or capture new whales.

Orca-Gefangenschaft-pg

Canada as a model for other countries

With the ban, Canada shows how the public’s opinion on ocean zoos has turned.
More and more people are fighting animal cruelty and fighting for the freedom of fascinating whales and orcas. Unfortunately, there are still facilities like Seaworld or the Loro Parque, which lock the marine mammals in tiny pools and let them demonstrate tricks to the amusement of the public.

We very much hope that other countries follow the example of Canada and also ban the breeding and confinement of marine mammals.

https://www.peta.de/kanada-verbot-zoo-wale-delfine

My comment: It is important to pass on such information. Many people still ignore the conditions in which animals live in water parks.
They think that dolphins and whales naturally cooperate with the stupid acrobatic number and that they do it because they just are more intelligent than other mammals!!

They are forced to perform meaningless tricks and have to play the ever-smiling clowns  for stupid visitors. They are often separated from family members because they are traded between zoos and carried around.

Today we know that …
Orcas and dolphins live in large, complex, social groups and they can swim in freedom up to 100 km and dive several hundred meters in the open ocean every day. In captivity, these animals can only swim in endless circles in bare, narrow concrete basins and are denied the opportunity to live almost any natural behavior.

They are held in narrow, flat and monotonous pools where they can only stereotypically make their rounds . In addition, the artificially treated water leads to skin rashes and eye inflammation.

A single dolphin can bring up to one million dollars a year to its owner – which is quite realistic, if hundreds of brainless visitors are routed through the swimming programs every day and paid between 100 and 200 dollars per capita.

delphin_clown

The marketing of dolphins as clowns, petting animals and acrobats generates billions in sales worldwide each year.

Japan: Petition – Embarrass Them – Make Coal Fired Power An Issue In Japan When It Hosts the G20 Very Soon.

Japan

Image result for bonsai tree cartoon

In less than three weeks, Japan will for the first time host the G20.

It’s a make or break moment for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. And there’s one topic he’s hoping doesn’t come up: coal.

Because Japan is one of the world’s largest public financiers of coal fired power plants. It is the only G7 country building coal power plants domestically and financing them overseas.

There are forces within Prime Minister Abe’s own Government pushing for Japan to move away from coal. But without international pressure Abe won’t act.

Japanese activists have a plan to deliver tens of thousands of signatures from people across the world to Shinzo Abe right in the middle of the G20 when he’s trying to show his Government’s best face to the world.

Image result for coal pollution japan

But our friends in Japan need your help.

Will you sign the petition to the Japanese Government to stop financing coal?

The world’s leading scientists have warned we have less than twelve years left to avoid climate catastrophe.

Floods. Droughts. Bushfires and extreme weather events will all become more frequent unless we keep fossil fuels in the ground.

And it’s not just Japan’s public funding of coal that is fuelling the climate crisis. Japan’s three largest banks are the 1st, 2nd and 4th biggest lenders to coal projects in the world.

12 years is a short window to head off climate catastrophe, but it is possible to do it if major economies like Japan switch from coal to clean renewable energy.

If we can get Japan to stop financing coal it will be a seismic shift.

Japan, Korea and China are the largest public financiers of overseas coal power. Once Japan ends its coal finance, Korea is expected to follow suit.

Add your voice and call on Shinzo Abe to reject coal and embrace clean energy!

Global: Most ‘meat’ in 2040 will not come from dead animals.

Schlachthofarbeiter mit Bold_n

WAV Comment – We have seen from this (our) site alone; as well as many others, that the current ‘system’ of around 10 billion animals being needed in farming to sustain around 1 billion people just cannot work. We have shown the issue of what cow farts do, and the demand of sustainable land (often rainforest) being destroyed just in order to keep Beef animals on; let alone their massive water consumption; it is simply destroying a lot of trees and plants that would otherwise be pumping oxygen into the system, thus cutting down our CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions; keeping temperatures under control more. Things have got to / are slowly changing; and this (meat free) is one of them. What a dream; no factory farms abusing meat producing animals for the want of human tastebuds. Bring Vegan on !!

Most ‘meat’ in 2040 will not come from dead animals, says report

Consultants say 60% will be grown in vats or plant-based products that taste like meat

Most of the meat people eat in 2040 will not come from slaughtered animals, according to a report that predicts 60% will be either grown in vats or replaced by plant-based products that look and taste like meat.

The report by the global consultancy AT Kearney, based on expert interviews, highlights the heavy environmental impacts of conventional meat production and the concerns people have about the welfare of animals under industrial farming.

“The large-scale livestock industry is viewed by many as an unnecessary evil,” the report says. “With the advantages of novel vegan meat replacements and cultured meat over conventionally produced meat, it is only a matter of time before they capture a substantial market share.”

Image result for non meat meat

The conventional meat industry raises billions of animals and turns over $1tn (£785bn) a year. However, the huge environmental impacts have been made plain in recent scientific studies, from the emissions driving the climate crisis to wild habitats destroyed for farmland and the pollution of rivers and oceans.

Companies such as Beyond Meat, Impossible Foods and Just Foods that use plant ingredients to create replacement burgers, scrambled eggs and other products are growing rapidly. AT Kearney estimates $1bn has been invested in such vegan products, including by the companies that dominate the conventional meat market. Beyond Meat raised $240m when the company went public in May and its shares have more than doubled since.

Other companies are working on growing meat cells in culture, to produce real meat without needing to raise and kill animals. No such products have yet reached consumers, but AT Kearney predicts cultured meat will dominate in the long term because it reproduces the taste and feel of conventional meat more closely than plant-based alternatives.

Image result for non meat meat

“The shift towards flexitarian, vegetarian and vegan lifestyles is undeniable, with many consumers cutting down on their meat consumption as a result of becoming more conscious towards the environment and animal welfare,” said Carsten Gerhardt, a partner at AT Kearney. “For passionate meat-eaters, the predicted rise of cultured meat products means that they still get to enjoy the same diet they always have, but without the same environmental and animal cost attached.”

The report estimates 35% of all meat will be cultured in 2040 and 25% will be vegan replacements. It highlights the far greater efficiency of the alternatives to conventional meat.

Almost half the world’s crops are fed to livestock, but only 15% of the plant calories end up being eaten by humans as meat. In contrast, the report says, cultured meat and vegan meat replacements retain about three-quarters of their input calories.

Potential customer uneasiness about cultured meat will not be a barrier, the report says, citing surveys in the US, China and India: “Cultured meat will win in the long run. However, novel vegan meat replacements will be essential in the transition phase.”

Image result for non meat meat

Rosie Wardle of the Jeremy Coller Foundation, a philanthropic organisation focused on sustainable food systems, said: “From steaks to seafood, a full spectrum of options is emerging to replace traditional animal protein products with plant-based and cell-based meat technologies.

“The shift to more sustainable patterns of protein consumption is already under way, driven by consumers, investors and entrepreneurs, and even pulling in the world’s biggest meat companies. If anything, predictions that 60% of the world’s ‘meat’ will not come from slaughtered animals in 20 years’ time may be an underestimation.”

However, a National Farmers’ Union spokesman said: “Innovation and new technology has always been central to the progress of British livestock farming. Although the science of lab-grown meat is interesting, the NFU believes there is great potential for livestock farming to continue its journey of producing safe, traceable and affordable food for the nation and it will continue to do so as long as the public demands it.”

In other words; farmers continue to want ….

Arguments against carnism

900_Pawel-Kuczynski_Bilder mit TierejpgImage: Pawel Kuczynski

When discussing vegetarianism with meat eaters, you will probably find that the focus of the argument is often on empty and false claims, such as, “As long as the animals do not suffer, I will continue to eat meat, done!” That sounds like, “As long as 2 + 2 = 347, I stick to my opinion, Basta!” Hard to say something appropriate and to stay inwardly relaxed.

When I heard this phrase, I replied, “Watch a carnage in a video or the life of the animals in a farm, how miserable these animals are to spend their lives!”
Then came the answer:  ” One does not have to know everything, for that we have a division of work in our society! “

zitat über VeganeThis level of discussion can easily lead to discouragement among vegetarians. To preserve patience in such conversations, it is sometimes helpful to have some counter arguments at hand.

The millennia-old tradition of eating meat has produced some very interesting, sometimes outrageous and illogical arguments. Although some of the pro-meat theses quoted here are downright idiotic, the meat eaters using such arguments are also doing it very seriously!!

Argument 1: “Plants are also living things that can suffer, so you should then not eat them”

Answer: To equate plant suffering with animal suffering is pure nonsense and is certainly perceived as exaggerated, even by the one who says so.

Plants have neither pain receptors nor nerves.
Both are necessary to create the message “Aua”. The nerves send the pain stimuli to the brain, which are processed here first.
So … because they still lack pain receptors and a brain, the pain impulses can not be sensed.

kind-auf-einer-grünen-wiese-frühling

Argument 2: Classification, “animals have no soul”

Answer: Of course, for centuries, the church has been diligently working on racism and discrimination, officially appointing the human species with God’s blessing the prevalent animal species.

“Animals have no soul, animals have only instincts and are therefore subordinate to humans. Animals are there to serve mankind with their flesh and goods “is the title of the church association.

It’s actually not hard to recognize the soul of an animal. However, meat eaters have made these creatures their slaves and victims, and the sight of the animal souls in his eyes could lead them to a serious remorse.

Neuregelung bei Ferkel-Kastrationen

Argument 3: Political truncheon: “Hitler was vegetarian too”

Answer: The purpose is to connect Hitler and vegetarianism in order to achieve a political connection.

The purpose is to connect Hitler and vegetarianism in order to achieve a political connection.
In this case we should tell from a recently read newspaper article about a man, by profession butcher, who murdered women, and divided into parts – a meat eater. Stalin was also a meat eater, Sadam Hussein – a meat eater, Karacic, Milosevic – a meat eater, etc., and so on. ….

jo frederick

Argument 4: The tradition: “Man is a carnivore and has always eaten meat”

Answer: If that were the case, man could eat meat raw, as all carnivores in nature do.
From the remark that man has always eaten meat, it is also clear that everything should remain the same. It would be the same to say, “There has always been rape and war, so keep it up!”. The spiritual development of a person who brings such an argument is based on Neanderthal traditions!

neaderthalerpg

Argument 5: The excuse: “I only buy from organic slaughterers”

Answer: Organic pigs are not gently caressed, they also die from bleeding.
In fact, there are neither organic killers nor organic butchers!

No murderer was acquitted because he killed his victim mildly or gently, or because he had previously kept it in a species-appropriate manner.

videoaufnahmen-aus-einem-brandenburger-schlachthof...Image: ARIWA, German organic slaughterhouse

Argument 6: Attack: “You should rather fight for people than for animals”

Answer: It would be the same if someone who is engaged in Rwanda would be accused: “You should rather take care of the old people in this country, than any strangers in Africa!”

When asked in which areas the one engaged, who goes so into the attack, one receives no answer. By playing animal love and people love against each other, he runs a pretty bad business!
In reality, love is a basic attitude, animal love and people love are the same, it is the love of life!

mensch-tier vergleichg

Argument 7:  Rating: “Animals are not as intelligent as we are and may therefore be eaten by us”.

Answer: If the intelligence of a living being is to decide whether it must die or live, then we should also consider and abuse babies, mentally ill and disabled people as our subjects.
Anyone who brings such an argument should not only check his own intelligence but his own morality too.

wildlife-photographer-urangutan

Argument 8: Standard motto: “In animals it is the case that the stronger eat the weaker”

Answer: If there really was such a thing as a right of the stronger we should no longer condemn criminals, because a perpetrator is always stronger at the moment of the act than his victim. No victim would have the right to complain, because under this logic every victim would be automatically in the Wrong, because the perpetrator was stronger.

Schlachthofarbeiter mit Bold_n

Argument 9: Stupid nonsense : Animals have no consciousness and therefore can not suffer”

Answer: The fact that animals have the same pain receptors as we have has been well documented. The proof has even been provided long ago.
There is much scientific evidence that even animals have a consciousness. It just simply does not know exactly how it differs from humans  -but even if that is not identical to human consciousness, that’s no proof that they can not suffer like humans.
Newborns do not (yet) have any awareness, but no one would question whether they are capable of suffering.

Because the ethically relevant question is not whether animals are as empathetic or intelligent as humans, but whether they can suffer.

Lämmleien am Schlachthof guckend n

The massive exploitation of animals for the production of food, in laboratories for senseless experiments, in the entertainment industry but also in a private attitude is therefore in no way justifiable. Honestly, it’s a daily murder and no argument can justify this murder.

There is no “humane” way to use animals. Where the goals of humans conflict with the needs of animals, the animals are the losers.

India: Latest Great News and Rescues From Animal Aid Unlimited – Some Great Stories of Progress for Animal Rescues.

INDA0001

WAV Comment

We are delighted that we have been able to give some donations to AAU very recently to help support them with their incredible rescues and post rescue care and attention for the animals. Here is the latest news below; and as you can see at the end, AAU are recruiting staff at the moment – think about applying if you are an Indian resident; working with all the animals must be so rewarding !

animal aid unlimited india

Rescuing and healing injured animals and inspiring people with happy endings is the thrust of Animal Aid Unlimited’s ongoing mission to help animals and contribute to the worldwide compassion revolution for animals.

Cruelty cases are painful to share, but Animal Aid is deeply committed to stopping cruelty in Udaipur by reporting it to the police and involving the media when possible. We are deeply proud that last week Deendayal Gora–one of our most cherished team leaders–received an award from the most senior members of the Udaipur police on Rajasthan Police Day, recognizing his vigilance in reporting animal cruelty cases for Animal Aid.

10 amazing rescues your heart will never forget

One more day and most of the animals you’re about to meet in this rescue compilation video would have been dead. Thanks to your support, Animal Aid’s rescue team was there to climb, wade, jump, run and hoist to make sure THIS would NOT be the animal’s last day. You’ll want to hold your hand over your heart as you watch these animals in the most ghastly problems get the help that saves their lives just in the nick of time.

Please donate, because for some animals, Tomorrow is only possible with help

1st All Women First Aid Training Team

In this month’s First Aid Training batch, we welcomed our first ALL WOMEN TRAINEES TEAM, hailing from West Bengal, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. Each have substantial experience with animals, and they’re so enthusiastic and bright as they head into day 5 of their intensive week-long training.

They’ll return to their communities ready to build teams of rescuers, follow safe, effective treatment protocols, and with new skills enhancing their handling, assessments, record keeping and wound dressings. They will be able to give rabies inoculations, treat animals for pain, identify when a vet is needed, and care for animals when there is no vet available.

Please go to our website to apply for training if you are a resident of India and already rescuing or helping street animals.

Puppy trapped and drowning deep in sewage line rescued

This puppy’s mother frantically paced back and forth at the mouth of a covered sewer line but she couldn’t find a way in. When our rescue team arrived we could faintly hear a puppy’s fading whimper. We too had trouble finding an entryway. Finally we found a rock slab we could hoist up but the puppy was still deep in the tunnel. We had no choice but to send one of the team knee deep into the sewage water, bent over and wading through it to rescue this little one on the verge of giving up. When our rescuer emerged, the baby was collapsed. We brought him back to the Animal Aid hospital so that we could thoroughly examine him. He was exhausted from fear and anguish. But as soon as he rested and ate, Barney bloomed before our eyes. Watch this furry family’s reunion at the end of Barney’s very busy day. He won’t have trouble sleeping tonight!

For little ones who get into all kinds of trouble, please donate.

Celebrate the Care-givers: Udi Bai

Udi Bai Gameti is a tiny person with super-human strength and an ability to read the minds of animals. Udi Bai knows if a dog will eat from her hand but not from a bowl. She can lift dogs twice her size with the ease of a footballer and the gentle handling of a mother (which she has perfected through her son and daughter and the thousands of animals she has helped here.) She spreads her love among dogs suffering from traumatic wounds, mange and every illness in between. Energetic but soft-spoken, Udi Bai expresses what we consider serious love for the animals.

Improved Isolation Ward coming soon!

Many of the dogs we rescue are not only injured, but often sick and need to be isolated from dogs who are simply wounded. Dogs carrying infectious diseases will soon get a boost to their moods–and therefore, a boost even to their ability to heal. We’re building a new Isolation Ward for dogs and puppies, with improved ventilation, more space, and where staff will be able to treat runny-nosed patients in a more organised environment.

The new Isolation Ward is scheduled to open 1st August at a cost of around USD $15,000.

Please donate to support this vital improvement.

New hoist is an enormous help for large animals

If a cow or bull is unable to stand, they have only a few days of life left. Their stomachs fill with gas and they usually die from bloat or other complications. But when we get them in a standing position with a canvas belt for support, there is a chance they can gradually regain the ability to stand, and we can turn the saddest story into recovery. We are immensely grateful for the gift of this hoist from Kiranmal Savensukha Charitable Trust–which is a huge help to the caregivers, who have previously had to lift the cows using the strength of their own backs!
