Mark,

The Trump administration doesn’t want you to know about its effort to spend nearly $5,000,000,000 in taxpayer dollars to prop up coal companies.

After submitting a Freedom of Information request to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) about this funding, which would not only prop up failing coal companies but guarantee their owners’ profits, we waited… and waited… and then got tired of waiting, so we’re taking them to court.

big power plant

We – you! – have a right to know whether Trump’s coal bailout is a quid pro quo for the Big Coal executives who supported his campaign. We’re going to use every tool at our disposal, including the courts, to bring the facts to light and keep this bailout from ever seeing the light of day.

UCS members have been critical in stopping this hare-brained scheme so far. Our policy experts reported on the coal bailout’s many errors. Scientists and activists mobilized across the country to pressure federal and local energy regulators to resist it.

Our efforts paid off. The White House temporarily “shelved the plan amid opposition from the president’s own advisers on the National Security Council and National Economic Council.”¹

But this fight is far from over. One of the architects of the bailout, Bernard McNamee—a career political operative with no experience in utility regulation was confirmed by the Senate to oversee the FERC, one of the key agencies involved in the plan. We expect McNamee to push for return of the wasteful, polluting coal bailout.²³

We need your help to fight back against polluters and the administration. And now, our National Advisory board is issuing a special match challenge to make sure the environment takes priority over government handouts to the fossil fuel industry.

Though there’s much to be hopeful for in the coming year, we will be keeping a watchful eye on the Trump administration and their coziness with fossil fuel interests. We don’t have the time to tolerate business-as-usual greediness from coal executives, not with the impacts of climate change already being felt by millions of people.

Just last month, the Trump administration’s own National Climate Assessment reiterated what we’ve known for years: the planet is rapidly warming, humans are responsible, and climate change is likely to expose all of us–and especially the most vulnerable among us–to deadly weather conditions, and cause trillions of dollars of damage by the end of this century—unless we act now.⁴

We can’t put Big Coal’s bottom line before everyone and everything else, Mark. We need to win this lawsuit and secure more victories for science, the environment, and our health in the coming year, but we can only succeed with your help.

Thank you,

Together, we’re moving closer to a better Europe committed to social and environmental justice!

EU- Flagge

WAV Comment:

We are showing this simply because we had it through today.

It does NOT mean that we think the EU is great; quite the contrary.  They have failed in Live animal transport, vivisection, factory farming; stray dogs, and a host of other issues.

Junker and crew are interested in one thing and one thing only – their own survival.  Below – Nigel says his bit (the truth probably).  Junker does not look happy.  This is very shortly after the UK people voted to get out of the EU.

Together, we’re moving closer to a better Europe committed to social and environmental justice!

Because of your involvement, this year:

  • The EU will ban some of the worst single-use plastics.
  • Zara and H&M promised to stop sourcing dirty viscose – a common textile in the clothes we wear often produced– from factories in Asia that dumped toxic chemicals into rivers and streams, produced when making viscose.
  • The European Parliament voted to increase transparency in our food system. Studies on risks from chemicals in our food will no longer be kept secret, once the other EU institutions agree.

Mark, all this was thanks to you! Your signatures to our petitions, your mailings to your MEPs, your social media messages to put pressure on big corporations and your donations all helped us to achieve our wins in 2018!

Thanks for all you do,
Mika (Bordeaux), Giulio (Rome), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU

UK: Boxing Day (26/12) Clashes Between Hunt Supporters and the ‘Antis’ as Always. Hunting Is In ‘Terminal Decline’.

UNKG0001

The UK is fairly well known for its opposition to hunting.

Above – The ‘Traditional’ (how very British) picture hunts love to portray.

But on Boxing Day each year, December 26th; hunts across the country meet and parade themselves through towns and villages.  This is perfectly legal; but they are always met by hunts sabs and the general public who oppose hunting.

26/12/18 was no exception; with clashes between hunt supporters and ‘antis’ taking place all over the country.

Hunt sab attack

Fox hunting is illegal in England, Scotland and Wales, but evidence suggests that hunts are regularly breaking the law.

Fox hunting was banned by the Hunting Act 2004 in England and Wales, and the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002 in Scotland. But while these were both welcome and hard-fought pieces of legislation, overwhelming evidence suggests that both are being ignored or exploited by hunts on a regular basis.

Perfect – how they should be.

Latest – a Dorset pub which supports hunting even attempted to stop sabs and vegans from entering to get a drink at the local.

Seems like the brewery chain have now suspended the manager for being so biased.

how the “others” feel …

After watching the video, we know one thing for sure: we are dealing with individuals, with intelligent, sensitive, sentient beings who honestly and generously give their joy, love, solidarity to the returning little one.

This video is the answer to the often asked question from the Philosophers and God’s servants: do animals have a soul?

The first step towards downgrading the animals to the commodity level is due to the theory and conviction of the Church.

“Animals have no soul, animals have only instincts and are therefore automatically not equal to the human beings who dispose of mind and soul – given by God”!

This theory is only a means to legitimize injustice and exploitation of animals. That’s ridiculous and outdated. For today we know that animals can feel and suffer, and that is the principle that commits us to moral action towards animals, not the argument “soul”.

I abhor any philosopher or religious theory that claims that animals are not equivalent to humans because the measure of all things is man.
Humanity must finally realize that human beings, is just one of one million animal species, and the most of other animals beings are extremely sensitive and compassionate individuals, many of whom even have an awareness of death.

I reject the difference between humans and animals, I find that even dangerous.
And I therefore distance myself sharply from all religions, parties and theories, as far as they violate the life interests of the animal, passive or active.

My best regards, Venus

Homeless Man Goes to Emergency Room – And His 4 Stray Dog Companions Wait Outside the Door

When homeless man César walked into the Hospital Regional Alto Vale in Brazil to seek medical treatment at 3 AM on a Sunday, his friends came along to show their support.

Only these were no ordinary buddies — they were his loyal canine companions, who anxiously gathered at the door of the clinic.

César was seeking help for an ongoing medical problem and hospital staff were amazed at the manners and good health of the dogs patiently waiting for their guardian.

Worker Cris Mamprin took snaps of the beautiful pups, marveling at their dedication and condition.

“They are all well taken care of and chubby,” said Mamprin. “Seeing them like that, waiting at the door, only shows how much they are cared for and loved.”

While César received treatment, the staff allowed the dogs in to keep him company, offering food to both them and their caring guardian, who confessed that he often goes without food to make sure the dogs can eat.

Touched by this close-knit family living on the streets, Mamprin shared the snaps on social media, where they quickly went viral.

“He has the best companions with him,” she said. “I do not know what his life is like, or why he’s on the street, but I admire the respect and love he has for his little animals.”

In America, an estimated 5-10 percent of homeless people have pets.

Although they are often criticized for keeping an animal when they can’t afford to support themselves, those who work with them reveal that many homeless people take better care of their animals than they do themselves.

Just like any companion animal at home, these “homeless companions” provide a sense of connection, family, and security to those who desperately need it.

“The need for companionship is just as important as the need for food or shelter,” says author Danielle Wolfe. “Taking care of others reinforces our purpose for living.

Japan: Boycott Everything About Them.

Japan says it is to restart commercial whaling in July in a move that is likely to draw international criticism.

It said it would withdraw from the International Whaling Commission (IWC), the body tasked with whale conservation.

Commercial whaling was banned by the IWC in 1986 after some species were driven almost to extinction.

Officials in Japan, an IWC member since 1951, say eating whales is part of the country’s culture.

For many years Japan has hunted whales for what it calls “scientific research” and to sell the meat, a programme widely criticised by conservationists.

The monkey trade mafia

Affe gefangen für Handel jpg

Little is reported about the trade in monkeys. In contrast to the thriving ivory shops. But this illegal trade is a terrible global criminal enterprise that kills and sells billions of monkeys of all kinds, or kills them when they’re no longer for sale. Some are the most endangered, intelligent and sensitive animals on this earth.

The illegal trade in monkeys is a billion dollar business. A gorilla baby can cost up to $ 250,000. High in demand as pets in affluent homes or as performers in commercial zoos, baby chimpanzees have a cost of $ 12,500. Who the buyers are is just as opaque as in trading with people. They give them alcohol and drugs, they are abused, and when they are no longer needed, they are thrown away again.

Affen in Müllkontainer

The monkeys are also offered in the social networks. On an Instagram account, a user offered baby chimpanzees and orangutans in children’s clothing, 2 babies, $ 7,500 each for the” Special Introductory Price”.

Illegal trade in animals ranks third in the international drugs and arms trade. It makes possible also the net :. With a mouse click, people can buy any kind of animals. On a website called exoticanimalsforsale.net, a just a week old male capuchin monkey is listed at $ 7,800; A squirrel monkey is listed for $ 9000 and a Java Macaque for $ 4000.

The animals are in high demand in the Gulf States, Southeast Asia and China. Buyers are willing to pay high prices and additional fees to bypass international controls. And while they are well cared for at a young age, chimpanzees soon become too strong and potentially violent to be kept in a household.

Gefesselter Affe_n

Malnourished and frightened monkeys were discovered in covert crates at border controls, whether in France, Nepal, Thailand, Kuwait or the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are confiscated all over the world. But these are only a few. Others end up living in a private zoo, far from home and their natural way of life.

Young apes are initially traumatized when they are caught in Africa and then again by being deported to Asia (often without adequate nutrition or care). They are then housed in zoos, circuses and zoos under supposedly appalling conditions – without proper attention, affection and the company of other monkeys, something that is required for the healthy development of these social species. Strict training regimes only aggravate the trauma, mongabay reports.

kleiner Affe, in Kettenn

Daniel Stiles leads the project to end the monkey slavery (PEGAS) and examined the monkey trade for four years. Since 2013, he has made several trips to the Middle East, China and Southeast Asia, where he witnessed an increase in circus shows with chimpanzees and orangutans.

“The way they do business,” he said about monkey traders, “makes the mafia look like amateurs.” Trade in these animals is booming. To catch small monkeys, the mother has to be killed. If the father is there too, they kill him too. For every monkey smuggled, more could have been killed, because most species live in groups. It is not uncommon for poachers to wipe out entire families just to get a single cub. Little monkey babies are easier to smuggle.

Daniel Stiles is now a “monkey detective” in Kenya and has spent weeks looking for pictures of gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. He hoped to destroy an illegal global trade that has captured or killed tens of thousands of great apes and has brought some endangered species to the brink of extinction.

My comment: The biggest natural disaster is the human being!

It is not enough that we take the habitat of the monkeys through deforestation and slash-and-burn, no!
They are also brutally trapped by the Monkey Mafia to sell them as merchandise to criminals rich or zoo owners ..
Every day we get the proof that evolution has not brought anything positive.

What do animals feel? The answer shows this photo.
It captures the moment when a 40-year-old chimpanzee dies. She had heart problems and could not be cured anymore. All the chimpanzees of the Sanaga-Yong Rescue Center accompany she on her last trip. ❤
In the forests of Cameroon, habitat destruction and illegal trade with monkey meat are destroying the lives of chimpanzees. On Sanaga-Yongs, the chimpanzees not only find a new family, but also a new home. And yes, they can feel!
