Massachusetts outlaws destructive
wildlife killing contests

Regulation abolishes competitive killing of wild animals for prizes and entertainment

Boston, MA – A coalition of leading wildlife protection organizations is applauding MassWildlife staff and the Massachusetts Fisheries and Wildlife Board for their vote today to ban wildlife killing contests in the Commonwealth.

The vote will bring an end to events like the ones recently held on Cape Cod and in Granby, in which participants competed to kill the largest, smallest, or the greatest number of animals for cash and prizes. Winners of wildlife killing contests often proudly post photos and videos on social media that show them posing with piles of dead animals, often before disposing of the animals in “carcass dumps” away from the public eye. When proposing this ban in July 2019, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife noted growing outrage in Massachusetts about these cruel and unethical contests.

“Upon learning about these unsporting contests, Massachusetts citizens made it clear that they would not tolerate these killing competitions in their state, contacting MassWildlife by the hundreds to voice their opposition,” said Elizabeth Magner, Ph.D., animal advocacy specialist for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA). “The MSPCA is grateful that MassWildlife staff and the Fisheries and Wildlife Board treated this matter with the seriousness that it warrants, and for positioning Massachusetts as a national leader on this issue.”

“Wildlife killing contests are a bloodsport just like dogfighting and cockfighting, which have been outlawed nationwide” said Katie Stennes, programs and communications manager for Project Coyote. “We commend the Massachusetts Fisheries and Wildlife Board for relegating these ecologically and ethically indefensible events to the history books.”

“Wild animals play an important role in their ecosystem and our environment,” said Stephanie Harris, senior legislative affairs manager for the Animal Legal Defense Fund. “The forward-thinking, science-based regulations adopted by MassWildlife and the Fisheries and Wildlife Board to prohibit senseless killing contests and wanton waste are among the nation’s strongest.

“Participants of wildlife killing contests often use unsporting and cruel techniques –  such as calling devices that mimic the sound of prey or even pups in distress – so that they can lure shy coyotes and foxes to shoot at close range,” said Laura Hagen, Massachusetts state director for the Humane Society of the United States. “We thank MassWildlife for taking decisive action to ensure that the Commonwealth no longer supports such barbaric and wasteful killing of its treasured wildlife.”

Wildlife agencies and professionals across the country have expressed concerns about killing contests not only because they reflect badly on responsible sportsmen and sportswomen, but because they also contravene modern, science-based wildlife management principles. In 2018, more than 70 renowned conservation scientists issued a statement citing peer-reviewed science that refutes claims that indiscriminately killing coyotes permanently limits coyote populations, increases the number of deer or other game species for hunters, or reduces conflicts with humans, pets or livestock. In fact, by disrupting coyote pack structure, randomly shooting coyotes may increase their populations and lead to more conflicts. Nonlethal, preventive measures are most effective at reducing conflicts with wildlife.

Wildlife killing contests are also destructive to healthy ecosystems, within which all wildlife species play a crucial role. Coyotes and foxes in particular provide a range of ecosystem benefits, including controlling rabbit and rodent populations and restricting rodent- and tick-borne disease transmission.

In just the past five years, California, Vermont, New Mexico and Arizona have taken a stand against cruel, unsporting and wasteful wildlife killing contests. California banned the awarding of prizes for killing furbearing and nongame mammals in 2014; New Mexico and Vermont outlawed coyote killing contests in 2019 and 2018, respectively; and Arizona prohibited the events for predatory and furbearing species this year.

UK Election 12/12/19: Hopefully Good News for Animals.

UK flagge aquarelljpg

eu uk 4

The UK had a General Election this week on 12/12/19. In reality, it was really more like a contest to see who would be successful in the battle to either remain in, or to leave the EU. The British public voted in 2016 to leave the EU, but this has always been blocked and contested by some political parties in the UK Parliament. 12/12 was a decisive day to see what the people thought after 3 years of debates, arguments and general troubles in the Parliament.

We watched with interest on the night of 12th; polling stations closed at 2200hrs. By the morning it was very clear that the real opinion was for the UK to leave the EU and instead take up other international trade deals around the world; which were prevented by being a member state of the EU. Trade deal negotiations are always done by the EU when it comes to member states; they are not allowed to go off and do their own thing. This is what annoys a lot of British people; that the EU does the deals on their behalf, and they then have to put up with the result. People wanted out, as the 2016 ‘In / Out’ referendum showed by its result.

Some political parties fought the election on a ‘remain in’ approach; others fought in a ‘get Brexit done’ approach. By the morning of 13/12 it was clear what the majority thought – ‘get Brexit done’ had made huge winnings in the form of the Conservative Party led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The Labour Party, led by Jeremy Corbyn on an attitude of getting another deal done and then putting it back to the people (again) – a 2nd referendum; were tranced in the election; losing dozens of seats in what had always been Labour heartlands.

The Liberal Democrat Party; fighting on a ‘stay in the EU’ approach, were very heavily defeated. Both the Party leader (Jo Swinson) and their Brexit spokesperson, one Tom Brake MP; lost their seats in the election. They had hoped for massive gains at the election to remain as members of the EU; but the voters thought otherwise. They were trounced.

So, now, with a majority of some 75 Members of Parliament the Conservatives are rapidly moving ahead to get out of the EU by the end of January 2020. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48256318

By leaving the EU, the UK will be able to take back control of its own policies and future destiny. UK law will be decided on and made in the UK rather than in the EU; which would apply to all member states.

As animal advocates; we are very much hoping that by leaving the EU, the UK will be able to make its own legislation for improvements in animal welfare. One issue that has been very important to us is the live transport of animals. Under EU law the UK is NOT allowed to ban live animal exports; a rule which applies to all other member states. By leaving the EU, the UK government will be free to introduce its own legislation which would allow live animal exports to be banned. Campaigning by many UK animal welfare organisations over many years has sent a clear message to the UK government; and we are confident that UK action for a ban will start very soon.

The UK has some good animal welfare policy, but that does not mean that it cannot be improved on. Free from the EU legislation; the UK will be able to make even higher standards for farm animal welfare than those which are laid out under EU regulations; many of which are not adhered to by some EU member states anyway. Why does the EU not take action about this ? – don’t ask us; it probably cannot be bothered in reality. They are, in their opinion, only animals after all.

Wording –

PETITION TARGET: Ambassador of France to the U.S. Philippe Etienne

Every year, tens of thousands of birds are victimized in southeastern France by a cruel hunting method called glue-trapping, which involves attracting songbirds to branches covered in glue in order to cage the birds to sell as “pets.” As birds try desperately to free themselves, they become increasingly stuck, resulting in a painful, prolonged struggle that can lead to injury or even death.

After this initial stage of torture, hunters spray birds with toxic chemicals and separate them from the glue, often causing further injury and fatal consequences, including feather loss, which can render birds unable to fly. Birds who are deemed “undesirable” are carelessly tossed aside and left to suffer with any untreated injuries they may have. The rest are exploited for profit, sold into a lifetime of misery in captivity or used as bait in future glue-trapping hunts after spending unnatural periods of time — sometimes months — in pitch darkness. This causes them to sing frantically once they see daylight, unknowingly luring other birds toward the traps.

A warning from the EU, which banned glue-trapping decades ago, and numerous court cases calling on French officials to outlaw the practice, have fallen on deaf ears. In addition to the needless suffering glue-trapping causes to birds, the perpetuation of this government-sanctioned cruelty puts steeply-declining bird populations, including endangered species, further in jeopardy.

Speak out against these barbaric glue traps that torture and kill helpless birds. Sign this petition urging the French Ambassador to do everything in his power to push for a nationwide ban on this disturbing and outdated practice.

Mongolia: Donald Trump Jr killed rare endangered sheep in Mongolia with special permit.

Donald Trump Jr killed rare endangered sheep in Mongolia with special permit

  • Permit issued after meeting with country’s president
  • Argali sheep considered national treasure in Mongolia
  • On a hunting trip to Mongolia earlier this summer the US president’s son Donald Trump Jr killed a rare species of endangered sheep. A permit for the killing was retroactively issued after Trump met with the country’s president, according to new reporting from ProPublica.
  • Trump was accompanied by security from both the US and Mongolia on the trip, the outlet reported. The argali sheep, with its large horns, is considered a national treasure there, and permission to kill one is “controlled by an opaque permitting system that experts say is mostly based on money, connections and politics”.

In between the killing and the issuing of the permit the month after he left the country, Trump is said to have met with the president, Khaltmaagiin Battulga, suggesting the possibility of special consideration being given to the son of the US president.

  • “Trump Jr shot his argali at night, using a rifle with a laser sight, the guides said,” according to ProPublica. “He stopped the local hunting guides from dismembering it at the kill site, instead instructing them to use an aluminum sheet to carry the carcass so as not to damage the fur and horns, said Khuandyg Akhbas, 50, one of the guides. He also killed a red deer, which similarly required a permit.
  • The legality of the importation of big game trophies into the United States has been, like many other issues in the Trump administration, confusing and ever-changing. The president himself has spoken out against the practice, calling such hunting practices a “horror show” despite his two sons being avid trophy hunters.
  • In order to import trophies of animals on the endangered species list, a US hunter must show that its killing would be beneficial overall to the species at large. In 2017, the Trump administration pushed back against such restrictions on trophy hunting from the Obama era before reinstating the ban. A court ruling found thereafter it was done improperly, allowing imports to continue.

SIGN: Justice for Sumatran Elephant Brutally Decapitated, Tusks Hacked Off By Poachers

Poachers left the corpse of a 40-year-old Sumatran elephant to rot on an Indonesian plantation after hacking off the majestic animal’s head.

“The elephant’s head had been cut off and its severed trunk was found a metre away from the body,” said Suharyono, head of a local conservation agency, in a statement. “We suspect the elephant was hunted and killed, and then its head was cut off to remove the tusks.”

The Sumatran elephant is listed as “critically endangered.” According to the World Wildlife Fund, “nearly 70 percent of [their] habitat has been destroyed in one generation.”

Poaching has also skewed the breeding rates for these magnificent creatures, making it even more difficult for the species to survive.

Asian Species Expert Dr. Barney Long notes, “we could possibly see the Sumatran elephant be restricted to just a few remote populations within our lifetimes.”

Sign this petition today to urge the Indonesian government to do everything in their power to bring these poachers to justice, and work to protect the remaining animals. The Sumatran elephants must be protected before all hope is lost.

France: 158 Wild Boar Killed by Physcho Hunters In One Day.

FRAN0001

boar france

The killing of 158 wild boar in a single day’s hunting in eastern France has sparked anger in the region and accusations of “carnage”, even if the hunters were within their allowed quotas.

The boar were killed in a “battue” in which beaters drove the game towards the 82 hunters last Wednesday in the eastern Ardennes region.

Local officials said the hunters were within their rights as they had still not attained their quotas for the season of some 300 animals.

But a participant in the hunt described the scene in a report in the local Ardennais newspaper, denouncing the extent of the killings as a true “carnage” that had left him shaken.

And the president of the hunting federation for the Ardennes, Jean-Pol Gambier, said that “such an image for hunting cannot be supported, we cannot allow this kind of excess.”

He said that the “exceptional” number of individuals killed was “intolerable”.

Cited in a local paper, he added that he “strongly condemned” the number of animals killed, saying it “significantly damages the image of hunting.”

“I am overcome by this carnage, even if there is a need to regulate (numbers),” Claude Maireaux, head of a local nature protection group said.

Hunters in France insist that their practice is helpful to nature and is rooted in the country’s traditions, even in the face of growing protests by animal rights groups.

Germany: how the hunters murder foxes

banane rep deutschlandpg

Every 6 seconds in Germany, a wild animal is killed by a hunter.

As a hobby and murder lust, hunters kill up to half a million foxes each year in the most cruel way – many of the animals are “only” shot or literally crushed and mutilated in traps.

Foxes serve the hunters as a living target; There is no reason for the massive hunting of the predators, neither from a biological point of view nor from a health point of view. Most politicians in Germany are themselves hunters and the closest lobby of these psychopaths who call themselves “hunters”.
For this reason, the senseless and brutal killing of wild animals continues massively.

jäger-

Of course, one does not speak in public of shooting fun or bloodlust, no! one hears about the protection of the small game, the fight against rabies, the fox tapeworm or the mange … Yes! hunters want us to be thankful for them, because they are ahead of us protect the unruly danger emanating from the deep, gloomy forest, because they – of course always for us – allegedly keep the overall ecological balance within limits!!

Fuchswochen 5jpg

One thing must be clear: The contribution of hunting to the protection of species in Germany is negative: The stocks of pheasants, partridges, hares or lap-hens go back continuously, although year after year almost half a million foxes are killed. The upcoming winter hunt for the fox is accompanied by considerable animal cruelty.

_Fuchswochen

Despite intensive adjustments, the number of foxes in Germany has remained largely constant for over 20 years. Due to the high harvest losses year after year, the reproduction also remains at a high level. In heavily hunted areas, females give birth to three to four times as many puppies as in non-hunted areas.

Where not hunted, the strong social fabric among the red foxes ensures a natural birth restriction. In the canton of Geneva, fox hunting has been prohibited for over 40 years and in Luxembourg since 2015 as well. In both countries, there is no evidence of an increase in fox population. So it is also in most German national parks, in which Fuchs & Co. are not hunted.

wildlife-photographer-füchsejpg

Winter is the mating season of foxes. During this time, they are careless and easier to spot for the hunter because of the snow cover in many areas. Therefore, during the full moon weeks in January and February, so-called “fox weeks” are proclaimed all over the country.
During a defined period as many hunters as possible should kill the fox. As a result, the psychopaths  enjoy each of several dozen dead foxes.

Jäger mit toten Füchsen

The hunting during the mating season of foxes is a criminal animal cruelty. In January and February, many vixen are already pregnant. If they do not die in a hail of bullets themselves, then are the fathers of their future puppies the victms. The fox boys, however, are needed as providers for the young family. If they fail, the survival probability of their kittens drops dramatically.

Fuchs mit Jungeno

To train dogs to fox hunt, the hunters in Germany developed some criminal (and illegal) methods.
For example: the sealing system!

What is a sealing system?
Hidden from the public, of course, the hunter trains his dogs to track foxes in their burrows and either “blow them out”, ie to drive them to the hunter in front of the gun, or to “strangle” them in the construction.
The dogs  are trained on live foxes, which are caught for this purpose and caged in cages. The hunters thus violate the Animal Welfare Act §3, paragraph 7.

schliefanlagejpg

Young foxes are preferred. They are still relatively inexperienced, relatively easy to catch in life traps and are not such a big threat to the dogs when fighting.
The hunter does not care about them. The foxes are locked up and get some food thrown into the cage so they do not starve.

fuchs mit jaeger_1038

Normally, neighbors or walkers observe that the foxes weep miserably and try to escape to freedom and run back and forth in the cages. No construction, no hiding place or protection.
Nothing!!
Only the bare ground and the grid in the eye, which denies access to visible freedom.

schliefanlage01

Layout and function.

The dogs should learn to be able to hunt through the corridors of the Burrow behind the foxes. For this purpose, an artificial structure with several aisles of concrete tubes or plates is built, which meet again and again in different places and converge. About slider, lid and grid, the hunter decides how far the fox can escape and whether the dog should reach him or not.
A fox is driven into the tube. The dog behind. In contrast to the real fox, the fox does not know about these courses. Besides, he does not know which courses are blocked and which are not.
Hastened by the dog, the fox tries to flee and logically flees in the direction the hunter forces him to by shutting off the corridors.

fuchs in schliefanlage mit Hund_o

At first, the hunter usually takes care that the dog can not reach the fox. But that does not change the stress the fox is exposed to. In fear of death, he tries to escape. Not infrequently he suffers from a heart attack or shock.

But what does that matter? Then he is killed or the dog may kill him for “reward”.

NJ_AP_16_2016 (AT) Aufmacher alternativ (DIT)

In the further hunting dog training a direct confrontation between dog and fox is wanted, whereby the hunter looks after his dog.
If the dog has caught the fox safely, the hunter watches in amusement as the fox is mauled by the dog.
Should the fox succeed in fending off the dog, or is there even a risk of injury to the dog, the hunter naturally helps his dog to kill the fox.

As of the fall, sealing systems are usually taken out of service.

In winter, no hunter feels like training dogs. Foxes that are still in the plant are killed by the hunter or have to give their life to the last dog of the season.
No fox leaves a hammock alive!

A section from the book of hunter and psychoanalyst Paul Parin, that tells us very honestly and very professionally about the sick sadism of these psychopaths:

“Hunting opens an avenue that can lead either to crimes including even homicide or to sexual lust” – this quotation is not from some animal-rights activist, but from a hunter himself: Paul Parin, prestigious neurologist, author and oft lauded psychoanalyst, and honorary doctor of the Klagenfurt University, Germany.

We non-hunters cannot judge if this statement is true or not.

In any case, Parin writes in his book “The Passion Of The Hunter” about his passionate fervour, the fever of the hunt, following:

“Since my first hunting adventures I am convinced: hunting opens an avenue that can lead either to crimes including even homicide or to sexual lust, no matter when and where it takes place… Hunting cannot be up for grabs without pre-meditated killing.

Passionate hunters want to kill.

Hunting without murdering would be an expression that would annul itself… For it is all about passion, greed, lust – a fever actually – […], sex and crime, lust and crime, death and sexual murder.”
(Parin, Paul: “Die Leidenschaft des Jägers” – “The Passion Of The Hunter”, 2003).

Yes! It is only a minority in the German population of 0.45%, which (due to their perverse pleasure) the murder on defenseless animals in the forest (still) operates.

If one can be enthusiastic about murdering innocent and utterly defenseless animals in such a way, one is no more than a miserable asshole, and does not deserve something like own human rights in any way.

It`s time to hunt the Hunters

My best regards to all, Venus

Lebanon: mass murder of migratory birds

libanon-flagge-jpg

New committee video shows night hunting for migratory birds: During our bird protection camp in Lebanon, committee staff documented the extent of illegal night hunting for migratory birds. The video can be found here:

Lebanon – At Danniyeh dozens of hunters have been spotted hunting electronic owls and powerful searchlights for sheltered owls, goiters, corncraps and many other migratory bird species.

Our new committee video shows for the first time this shocking footage.
We hope that the publication will pay more attention to the public and to the authorities for this little-noticed form of environmental crime.

Especially nowadays, when people in Lebanon take to the streets every day against corruption and for more democracy, environmental issues are also increasingly perceived.

But there are also happy events in this sad and very dangerous job, and that is the rescue of a small, pretty owl in Cyprus.

Little Owl Saved: A team from the Committee Against Birds slaughter  (CABS) has found an active trap tomorrow morning near the small town of Vrysoulles in Cyprus.

kleine eulepg

They were just in time, because on one of the brutal adhesive traps had caught a little owl. The little owl was quickly released again into freedom. Our team should not have arrived much later, because a short time later the poacher appeared to control his traps. It would undoubtedly have killed the owl.

eule Zyperno

The hunting supervisor, who was informed by us, was able to put the offender on his property two hours later – for the 77 lime rods he has to pay a fine of only € 250!

He will hardly be impressed by that – we will have to keep an eye on his garden.

https://www.facebook.com/Komitee.CABS

My comment:There are always these perverse lust killers among us…

People have divided the earth among themselves as property and go so far as to deny the animals on their property the right to live – that is why animals are killed.

Of the many comments that appear in Facebook, you realize that many come up with an extensive anger and there are many who also ask why the Komitte still acts non-violently.
Well, yes! if all these commentators realize that these psychopaths have Kalashnikov, then a non-violent behavior remains the only option. And the few know that the EU allows the shooting of 53 million wild birds (many strictly protected) just for fun!

Wars, torture, persecution, rape, violence, killing and execution as power instruments for the control of fellow human beings are no longer accepted in our cultural circles.
Only in hunting this power may be lived out.
Because in this bloody and mighty war it is the defenseless animals which are delivered as victims.

The hunters lead this war against the wild animals. We will be able to speak of peace in a civilized society when the pointless bloodshed has come to an end.

France: pregnant woman killed by dogs during hunt with hounds

Animal rights activists urge halt to hunting season after body found near Villers-Cotterêts

A pregnant woman has been killed by dogs while walking her own dog in a forest in northern France during a hunt with hounds, investigators have said.

The body of the 29-year-old woman was found on Saturday in a forest outside the town of Villers-Cotterêts, about 90km (55 miles) north-east of Paris, the prosecutor’s office in nearby Soissons said.

An autopsy showed that she had died of “bleeding after several dog bites to the upper and lower limbs and the head,” prosecutor Frederic Trinh said on Tuesday. Some of the bites were “postmortem”, he added.

Trinh said that tests had been carried out on 93 dogs, including some hounds from the hunt and five dogs belonging to the woman herself, to try to establish which ones attacked her.

The police have launched an investigation into manslaughter by dog attack.

According to local newspaper Le Courrier Picard, the dogs were hunting deer.

The woman had called her partner while walking her dog to report the presence of “threatening dogs”, the prosecutor’s office said. It was he who later discovered her body.

Brigitte Bardot, president of her eponymous animal welfare foundation, declared herself deeply shocked on hearing of the case and in a letter urged Élisabeth Borne, the French minister for ecological transition, to suspend “immediately all hunt authorisation for this season”.

But the Paris-headquartered French hunting association said that “nothing shows the involvement of hunting hounds in the death of this woman”.

France has more than 30,000 hunt hounds in total and the association stated that “these dogs are trained to hunt a particular animal and obey man in all circumstances”.
