For women’s Day

The majority of female non-human animals never got their rights.
Not even for an hour.
They are still with marks in their ears in the slave centers of this world, only one number, only one function: to serve the human animals.

Their families and children were robbed and they could not defend them because these women were shackled as little young girls.

Even serious criminals don’t have to fear such a punishment, but these women are imprisoned, raped, and forced into chains for life because their biggest and only crime was to be born.

Born in a society in which “human rights” arise solely from belonging to the human species – no matter how a person is made, it has this right per se. Because it is human.

As a result, it is created the “right” of the strongest against the other animals, and it is even legalized.
The violence against non-human animals with their billions of faces and fates is solely the result of the fascist superiority of the human species

Therefore, on Women’s Day, we think of the millions of non-human women on earth, of their stolen children, of the women who give birth in miserable boxes, of the women who give birth in trucks, of the women who are waiting to be executed in the slaughterhouse.

That is an injustice, and we will continue to fight for their liberation, for their rights.

My best regards to all, Venus

Pastor with hunting ambitions

Mr. Pastor goes hunting!

Manuel Fetthauer is a Protestant theologian and passionate hunter!
Some of his parishioners wonder whether a pastor can really just put a rifle on to go hunting in the forest.

The Protestant theologian Manuel Fetthauer from Rhineland-Palatinate has a clear answer.

Manuel Fetthauer prefers to sit under a gnarled cherry tree, with a view of a small valley basin, deserted fields, and the edge of the forest.
Here in the Hintertaunus, he can switch off from everything that kept him busy during the day.
The Protestant pastor from Rhineland-Palatinate has a passion that one would not expect from a theologian: Whenever he has the time, he buckles his rifle on and goes hunting.

Anyone who wanders through their hunting grounds with Fetthauer quickly understands that there is someone who knows their way around nature.
The 32-year-old knows which bird calls can be heard and which paths the animals usually use.
“The forest is not in good shape,” he says. It is the third dry year in a row and many branches have dried up.

Pastor Fetthauer

Red deer harm the trees says Mr. Pastor

In addition to the long drought, the numerous red deer also bothered the trees, he says.
The animals eat the buds of young plants or gnaw on the bark.
Fetthauer has already seen 200 red deer roaming past his hide in a single evening. Restoring the natural balance is also a kind of “creation mission”  (!!!) for the hunted theologian.

Hunting opponents see it differently.
For example, the animal rights organization “PETA” has launched a “Christians for Animals” campaign, which specifically encourages believing people to adopt a vegan lifestyle.
The traditional annual Hubertus masses and hunter services are a thorn in the side of the critics.

The President of the German Animal Welfare Association, Thomas Schröder, accused the churches of justifying the “senseless killing of millions of animals under the guise of customs”.
Even St. Hubertus, the patron saint of hunters, has renounced the hunt, according to legend, after Christ spoke to him in the form of a stag.

Fetthauer likes many of the hunter’s customs.

He celebrates hunting services in November because they also appeal to the hunters’ sense of responsibility, as he says, and he also plays the hunting horn himself.

Your animal is not a toy!

If your dog comes to the shelter because you no longer want him, bothers you, prevents you from going on vacation … these all hypocritical excuses…
…he sits and waits for you.

He’s waiting for you to get him.
He’s waiting for you a minute, an hour, a day, a year?
He doesn’t know why but wait for you because he trusts you. Because he loves you unlike you.

Listen carefully! Your animal is not a toy!
Think about it before you get a pet …

You are responsible for a family member just as you are for a child ❤️❤️

Germany: the lynx is strictly protected= in seven years 36 illegal shot lynxes!

In the past seven years, 12 dead lynx were found in Bavaria (Germany).
The number of unreported cases could be much higher. The perpetrators have not yet been identified. The Socialist Party of Germany (SPD) criticizes this fact and demands results.

Since 2011, 12 dead lynx have been found in Bavaria.

This is in response from the Interior Ministry to a request from the SPD in the state parliament.
The number of unreported cases could be 36.

According to this, six lynxes were killed by shooting or poisoning, and another six animals were found as stuffed trophies.
According to the ministry, five lynx were also killed in traffic accidents.

There are still no perpetrators (!!!)

The State Office for the Environment names another 14 cases in which wild lynx have been killed.
In none of the six proven killings, a perpetrator could be identified.
The police were able to find few investigative approaches in the cases despite securing and analyzing evidence, according to the authority.

Lynx poaching in Bayer, 2020: The case was dropped for lack of evidence (!!) © WWF

The SPD member Florian von Brunn criticizes this fact.

At the end of 2015, a dead lynx was found that was believed to have been strangled. It is also particularly strange that there is still no information about the findings of the investigation into two lynxes killed in the Cham district in 2015.
At that time there was a police search of a hunter’s house.

“We still don’t know what came out of the ammunition investigation” (Florian von Brunn)

The Bavarian Ministry of the Environment offered a reward of 10,000 euros for reports on the perpetrators.
The Federation of Nature Conservation in the Regen district demanded the creation of a special police unit against poaching in the Bavarian Forest.

The state of investigation regarding the killing of the lynx “Alus”, whose carcass was found in September 2017, is still unclear, complains Florian von Brunn.

Brazil: Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court has ordered an inquiry into the sale of protected areas of the Amazon rainforest via Facebook.

WAV Comment – we are an animal rights group; but that does not stop us from sometimes dealing with human rights issues also when we think it is right.  Here are a few stories from Brazil which we hope you will enjoy reading and support.  We hope this information will help one of our supporters, Barbara Crane Navarro – of the Rainforest Art Project;

Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court has ordered an inquiry into the sale of protected areas of the Amazon rainforest via Facebook.

It follows a BBC investigation, which revealed plots as large as 1,000 football pitches listed among the platform’s Marketplace classified ads.

The court is asking the government to “take the appropriate civil and criminal measures”.

Facebook has said it is “ready to work with local authorities”.

But the tech firm has indicated it will not take independent action of its own to halt the trade.

The Amazon is the largest rainforest in the world and a vital carbon store that slows down the pace of global warming. It is home to about three million species of plants and animals, and one million indigenous people.

Still online

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Luís Roberto Barroso has asked the country’s attorney general and Ministry of Justice to investigate the BBC’s findings.

He was already overseeing a lawsuit brought to the Supreme Federal Court by an NGO – the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil – and six political parties.

The plaintiffs have accused the government of failing to do enough to prevent the coronavirus from affecting indigenous communities.

The judge took the decision to extend the case to include the Facebook ads.

And he drew particular attention to the Uru Eu Wau Wau community. The BBC’s documentary reported that land inside a reserve used by the indigenous group had been listed for sale for the equivalent of about £16,400 in local currency.

No papers

The BBC has flagged up some of the ads involved to Facebook, but the social media giant has failed to remove them.

The listings include areas inside indigenous territories and national forests, which have protected status.

Some feature satellite images and GPS co-ordinates. Many of the sellers admit to not being able to prove legal ownership.

To find them, users need only type the Portuguese for terms such as “forest”, “native jungle” and “timber” into Facebook Marketplace’s search tool, and pick an Amazonian municipality as the desired location.

The BBC arranged meetings between four sellers on Facebook and an undercover operative posing as a lawyer, who claimed to represent wealthy investors.

The sellers caught on hidden camera were illegally selling and clearing rainforest so it could be used as cattle pasture and farmland.

‘Stolen land’

A boy living on one of the reserves in question

The head of the Brazilian Senate’s Environment Commission, Senator Jaques Wagner, has described the land deals as “criminal”.

He said his panel of lawmakers would write to Facebook demanding it “review its policy so that this practice is curbed”.

Facebook has previously indicated it believes the task of trying to deduce which sales are illegal is too complex for it to carry out itself.

But one congressman mocked this explanation.

“What is the difference between selling stolen land with violence against indigenous rights on Facebook and selling narcotics through the platform?” asked Nilto Tatto, a member of the lower house’s environment commission.

“Can Facebook then be used to sell narcotics? As a parliamentarian, I will ask this question.”

Logs in Amazon

Brazil’s government has faced international criticism for failing to curb deforestation, which is at a 12-year high.

Conservationists have accused the country’s President Jair Bolsonaro of encouraging loggers and farmers to clear parts of the rainforest.

And some of the sellers captured on hidden camera by the BBC said they viewed him as an ally.

The BBC approached Brazil’s Minister of the Environment Ricardo Salles with the findings of its investigation.

He said: “President Jair Bolsonaro’s government has always made it clear that his is a zero-tolerance government for any crime, including environmental ones.”

A UN Environment Programme spokesperson told the BBC: “Illegal deforestation undermines international treaties and commitments, including the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity.”

Amazonian groups sue French supermarket chain over deforestation

Casino supermarket

French supermarket chain Casino is being sued by indigenous groups from the Amazon, for allegedly selling beef linked to deforestation.

The 11 indigenous groups, backed by NGOs in the US and France, are seeking €3.1m ($3.7m; £2.7m) in damages.

In a statement, the groups linked Casino meat to an area of deforestation “five times the size of Paris”.

Casino told AFP and Reuters news agencies that it took a “rigorous” approach to its supply chains.

The company is being taken to court under a French law enacted in 2017. Under the law, businesses must avoid human rights and environmental violations in their supply chains.

The indigenous groups from Brazil and Colombia have accused Casino of “damages done to their customary lands and the impact on their livelihoods”.

In the statement they said deforestation in South America, particularly in Brazil, was mainly driven by cattle ranching.

Deforestation in the Colombian Amazon

“According to evidence compiled and analysed by the Center for Climate Crime Analysis for this case, Groupe Casino regularly bought beef from three slaughterhouses owned by JBS,” a meatpacking company accused of deforestation, they said in a joint statement.

“The three slaughterhouses sourced cattle from 592 suppliers responsible for at least 50,000 hectares of deforestation between 2008 and 2020… The deforested area is five times the size of Paris.”

Casino also controls Brazil’s largest food retailer, Grupo Pão de Açucar (GPA), and Colombian retailer Almacenes Éxito.

The indigenous groups also accuse Casino of violating indigenous rights, and cite one case in particular in which indigenous lands were invaded and used by cattle farms that supplied beef to GPA.

“The demand for beef by Casino and Pão de Açucar brings deforestation and land-grabbing and violence, and the murder of indigenous leaders when they choose to resist,” Luiz Eloy Terena, a leader of Brazil’s Terena people, said in the statement.

“With this lawsuit, we seek to hold the company accountable for the consequences of these impacts and to bring some relief to the reality confronted by our indigenous peoples on their lands.”

Casino told Reuters news agency that its Brazilian-sourced beef was not sold in its French shops.

GPA also told the agency that in 2016 it set out criteria that its suppliers must comply with – including “zero Amazon deforestation, no slave-like condition, no child labour and no invasions of indigenous land or conservation areas”.

Hellscape dog farms in Gimpo, South Korea

All 60 dogs are rescued!

Please click the video to watch!

But they are in terrible condition and will need extensive medical care.

CARE and You Sachun will care for them until they find forever loving homes.

Please help by donating whatever you can afford.

Thank you!

Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE) is trying to rescue dogs from two illegal dog farms in Gimpo, South Korea.

These dogs were left alone to survive on completely rotten and molded food waste that appears to be at least 10 – 20 days old. Scattered among the living dogs were the bodies of those that had already died. CARE came with another dog rescue group You Sachun but the farm owner is nowhere to be found.

CARE had received an agreement from one of the dog farms that they would relinquish their dogs yesterday, but the second farm is the one with even more dogs trying to survive in even more horrific conditions, and there is no relinquish agreement with that farm owner.

If not rescued soon, it is unknown how long these dogs can survive. This dog farm is no better than a grave for the dogs; these poor animals are so desperate they cried out when they saw the CARE rescuers, begging to be saved. It’s suspected that dogs at some government shelters, instead of being euthanized, were illegally brought here. There are all kinds of dogs here including the dogs who had vocal cord removal surgery.

Despite the request for help, the City of Gimpo and the Gyeonggi-do Special Police never showed up. CARE and You Sachun will use all means possible to save the dogs. They are asking us to file a protest with the city of Gimpo and Gyeonggi-do province to help with the removal of these dogs from this dog farm. There are about 60 dogs to be rescued and CARE and You Sachun will try to rescue all of them, provide medical care, and find homes for them.

The cost to do all of this is going to be enormous. Therefore, they need compassion and generosity from caring people like you. Please help them save these suffering dogs by donating whatever you can afford. Thank you!

Forest Green Rovers: first vegan football club!

Without a sausage in the stadium and artificial fertilizer for the lawn? Can it work?

A British professional club “Forest Green Rovers” is currently celebrating success with this concept – and could soon become a role model.

Club owner Dale Vince says, “We became the world’s first vegan football club because it’s better for the environment and animal welfare, but also because it improves player performance and gives fans healthier, delicious food on match days”

In addition, he says, top athletes like Lionel Messi, Lewis Hamilton, and Venus Williams have also gone vegans to improve their performance, they couldn’t be that wrong.

(The video is in English with German subtitles)

And the most important thing – they are successful!

They have been declared the “greenest football club in the world” by FIFA, are the first sports club to be recognized as carbon-neutral by the United Nations, and their stadium is the only completely vegan football stadium in the world.

We wish them continued success.

China’s animal welfare law revision-something to celebrate…

SHANGHAI (Reuters) -Wolf, golden jackal, and large-spotted civet among hundreds of animals granted special status in a first major shake-up of the inventory for over 30 years.
The move is part of a revision to the Wildlife Protection Law, which started with a ban on the trade and consumption of wild animals in February last year
China has added 517 species to its list of major protected wild animals, part of its campaign in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to end the wild animal trade and destruction of habitats.

A joint statement on Friday by the forestry and agriculture ministries said adjusting the list had become “extremely urgent” because of recent changes in China’s wildlife situation.

A total of 980 wild animals are now under state protection.

Siberian ibex (Capra sibirica). Wildlife animal.

The ministries promised to work with local governments to identify and protect the habitats of the animals added to the list, which include the endangered large-spotted civet and several species of birds that have dwindled in number in recent years.
Those who hunt and traffic the animals face fines and even custodial sentences for “level one” protected species, such as the critically endangered panda, pangolin, and Yangtze finless porpoise.

Neophocaena phocaenoides, Finless Porpoise, captive. Wuhan, Hubei Province, China

China has been trying to crack down on the wildlife trade since January 2020, after the first cases of COVID-19 were linked to a seafood market in the central city of Wuhan that was known to sell exotic animal species.

Scientists speculate that the novel coronavirus has forced people to re-examine the link between animals and humans and pushed wildlife conservation to the top of the legislative agenda.

Back in mid-February, the legislative committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) added a revision of the Wildlife Protection Law to its 2020 to-do list; later that month, the NPC’s Standing Committee announced a ban on the eating of wild animals and a crackdown on the illegal wildlife trade.

Then, in June, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture issued a consultation draft of an update to China’s list of protected animals.

China has also promised to step up efforts to protect forests and wetlands and to seal off nature reserves behind “ecological protection red lines” in a bid to reduce human exposure to virus spillovers.

Prior to 2017, the Wildlife Protection Law didn’t specify how often the list of protected animals should be updated. But a revision that came into force at the start of that year requires an update every five years.

Large-spotted civet

China’s parliament announced plans to implement a permanent nationwide ban on wildlife trade and trafficking in February, though it left big loopholes for the captive breeding of animals traded for fur or used in traditional Chinese medicine, and so bear and tiger farms are ignored.

In the first nine months of 2020, China prosecuted more than 15,000 people for wildlife crimes, up 66% from the same period a year earlier, state prosecutors said.

Reporting by David Stanway;

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-environment-wildlife-idUSKBN2A604H

And I mean…While heralding big progress, some say the consultation draft still leaves conspicuous omission of important species, principles, and mechanisms to make it easier to update again…

Here is a link to take a different view of China’s new list of animal welfare laws.

https://chinadialogue.net/en/nature/chinas-list-of-protected-animals-to-be-updated-after-32-years/

Nevertheless! China has never claimed it has the best animal welfare law in the world, and in fact, China has missed some of the development of the animal welfare movement.

On the other hand, China is one of the few countries that has taken radical measures in the wildlife markets due to the corona pandemic.
After all, the number of protected animals is almost twice, and we welcome that first and foremost.

We hope and even believe that the new regulations will be respected by the people and authorities, and we are also hopeful that China will soon expand and improve its animal welfare.

But instead of criticizing China, we should ensure that our animal welfare law with its thousand pages of paper finally fulfills its function consistently and fairly for those for whom it was made, the animals.

My best regards to all, Venus

Norway: Now Only Six Mink Farms Left in Norway!

WAV Comment – Whilst we celebrate this fantastic news from our friends at the Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance, we must remember that regarding the situation for Mink farmers in Denmark; they are now heading into Finland to continue their disgusting business.  Also, the Chinese fur industry is ready to step in at a moments notice to take up the slack of any reductions in the European fur trade.  We have to be on our guard constantly.  But this is news we celebrate gladly.

Only six mink farms left in Norway!

5 March 2021

Dyrevernalliansen

Norwegian mink farming is coming to a close. The latest numbers show that there are only six mink farms left in the country, down from 34 in October 2020.

Fur farming was outlawed by the Norwegian Parliament in June of 2019, but the law specified that breeders already in operation have permission to continue until 2025. When the ban on fur farming was enacted, there were roughly 180 fur farms in the country, of which about half were breeding mink.

Ever since the ban was enacted, the number of farms has steadily decreased. Recent numbers acquired from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority now show that nearly all mink farms have shut down, and that there are only six farms left in Norway. This is a drastic reduction from October 2020, when there were 34 mink farms in operation, holding a combined total of roughly 250.000 mink.

Norway is one of few countries with mink farms where no Covid-19 outbreak has yet to be documented in mink. However, ever since the first cases of Covid-19 were discovered in minks during the summer of 2020, the Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance has repeatedly called on the Norwegian government to shut down what remains of the industry. Even though the government again and again has refused to close down the remaining farms, a large majority of mink breeders appears to have made the decision to shut down voluntarily.

As part of the ban on fur farming, the Norwegian Parliament has promised around 200 fur breeders a lucrative compensation package. In addition to setting aside funds dedicated to re-training farmers and to cover the cost of tearing down farms, Norwegian fur breeders are likely to be given a compensation totalling roughly 200 million Euros.

In February, the Norwegian Parliament decided to increase the size of the re-training grant given to farmers by approximately 2.5 million Euros, because a much larger number has closed down this year than expected. The Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance will continue to push forward for a complete shutdown of all fur farms as soon as possible.

EU: Stop Circus Suffering – A Call for an EU Wide Circus Animal Ban.

Stop Circus Suffering – call for an EU ban

2 March 2021

Press Release

On 3 March we celebrated World Wildlife Day with the official launch of the “EU Stop Circus Suffering” campaign, calling for an EU Ban on the use of wild animals in circuses. A new opinion poll confirms that this is what the 68% of Europeans are asking for.

For immediate release: Brussels 3 March 2021

23 Member States have already adopted national legislation restricting the use of either all, or exclusively wild, animals in circuses, reflecting the public’s position on ethical and animal welfare grounds. Statements from animal experts and veterinary bodies backed up these decisions.

However, France, Germany, Italy and Spain don’t have any national restrictions and Czech Republic, Finland and Hungary only adopted restrictions on the use of some species of wild animals.

Eurogroup for Animals commissioned an opinion poll to Savanta ComRes who interviewed citizens from Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Spain.

The results clearly show there’s no more room for this cruel entertainment:

  • The use of wild animals in circuses is cruel and wild animals should not be used for public entertainment – 68% agree
  • The European Union should ban the use of all wild animals in circuses – 62% agree
  • The European Union should guarantee that cruel uses of animals are not allowed – 83% agree
  • Circuses that still use wild animals must reinvent themselves by developing high quality shows with human performers – 69% agree
  • Circuses showing wild animals is educational – 20% agree

Circuses are travelling entertainment services moving around Europe, and performing wild animals are transported across Member States, where circuses pose severe public safety and animal health and welfare risks. That’s why we call for an EU wide ban on the use of wild animals in circuses, since bans at the national level won’t prevent these movements with all the risks and distresses for the animals.

Only an EU wide ban can guarantee the end of this outdated entertainment and provide a coherent and effective solution to the physical and emotional suffering of wild animals in circuses. The Commission should take the wishes of EU citizens very seriously and use their powers to finally end this unnecessary suffering while confirming the EU as the International leader for animal welfare.

Well said fella !!

Reineke Hameleers, CEO, Eurogroup for Animals.

Nearly 1 million citizens have already signed the Infocircus petition, with the “Stop Circus Suffering” campaign we will keep backing the strong public support and move a step further bringing this request at the institutions level.
