New Friendship City Campaigns:

Will Berlin and Odense, Denmark Speak for the Korean Dogs?

Sister and Friendship City Agreements are formed between two cities with the aim of being mutually beneficial (for trade, cultural exchanges, business links etc., and to foster friendship), and many cities throughout the United States and around the world have such ‘twin cities’ all over South Korea. We can bring the unacceptable practices of South Korea’s dog meat trades to the attention of the relevant City Mayors and their Offices, and to urge them, in the spirit of friendship and for the good of the Korean people, to reach out to their counterparts in South Korea, asking them to enforce their laws and to put an end to the cruel dog and cat meat trades. Korea Animal Rights Advocates (KARA):
Stack bricks of TheBom Center for beautiful Dorae.

Sharing for Korea Animal Rights Advocates (KARA).

The view of the dog farm where Dorae was caged is still vivid. There was a pile of tools and garbages. The freezer in the middle of the dog farm was full of dogs’ heads. It was even scarier because there were iron clubs and knives everywhere. We don’t know what kind of violence and death there was before, and how these dogs endured that fear. ⠀

Dorae sat still in the red cage. Volunteers gave straw groundings to make Dorae a bit more comfortable. Dorae looked around, and when our eyes met, she bent her backs strangely and bowed. ⠀

She would have known that in the dog farm once she is out of the cage, that’s her day of death. However, she didn’t even put any strong resistance. We moved her to the travel crates. Her fur was dirty and her eyes were very timid. It might have been natural since she was rescued from the end of life.

We rescued all the dogs on the dog farm, including Dorae, and drove them all the way from Beolgyo – where the dog farm was located – to Gyeonggi-do. Dorae vomited as she felt carsick and had to urinate because she couldn’t stand the long travel time. After a difficult travel Dorae was finally capable of stepping on the ground.

But she wasn’t in ease when she first went to the shelter. When she saw people, she stood still in an awkward position and looked far away, avoiding people’s eyes. We took her to the animal hospital because she was too inactive, but the vet said there were no special symptoms. We just fed her well, brought her some snacks and toys, and called her name a lot. For a long time, she did not make eye contact with people.

It’s almost a year after the rescue, and finally Dorae is smiling. When a person comes, she goes round and round, not knowing what to do. She keeps on wagging her tail. We are so proud of Dorae. She has been gaining weight, getting muscles for a year.

TheBom Center is a place where alienated and abandoned animals get new life opportunities. Animals like Dorae. Animals that are sick or who don’t like people can also turn bright and loving just how Dorae became. Soon, entry to TheBom Center will begin, but the financial difficulties that we are going through are not yet over.

We ask for your support for TheBom Center, which will be the home of animals for the next 100 years and the standard for animal shelters in Korea. Join us in the brick sponsor to present new lives to more animals.

Abattoir made in France

These terrible places are everywhere.

It is estimated that we slaughter billions of innocent animals every week to eat their meat.
Their stories need to be told because similar stories happen to billions of other animals.
Isn’t that human fascism towards the “other” animals?
If not, what is it?

Anyone who consumes meat claims that he is against brutal slaughter, against violence, torture, murders, these are the pacifists who speak as if they were the good guys and we the crazy people, the fanatics of a new cult direction.
And ask us to explain, why we don’t eat animals!

We, who do not want to participate in this criminal system of slavery and exploitation, we are not the ones to explain why they do NOT torture animals.
Those, who do it, have to give an account of why they don’t see the animals as victims, but rather like as cell phones or their televisions.

And instead of realizing that they are hypocrites and racists, they advocate “humane” slaughter.
How do we define “human” in a place like slaughterhouse?
Except of torture, pain and murder, nothing else happens in a slaughterhouse.
It’s very easy to justify the worst atrocities when we are not the victims.

We have made violence and death to normal practice, we consume violence and death.
Nobody can or really wants to recognize that the pieces of meat on his plate come from beings who do not want to suffer, do not want to be murdered, do not want to die.

It is finally high time to expand our morals and compassion for other species and to view the daily massacre of animals as an unending, cruel Holocaust that can only be justified in a fascist system.

The bleeding zone

This is the reality of a rabbit slaughterhouse in Spain.
– Rabbits are transported in containers after a stressful 12-hour trip.
– They take them to the “bleeding zone” and hang them upside down.
Terrified wait watching while others are killed right in front of them.
– And, then, it is their turn to also be HANGED, DEGOLLATED and DISPELELED for meat.

Is it only in Spain?
No! This is how it works in all totalitarian, fascist systems, as well as the system of human animals, which they have constructed against all other animal species.

This fascist system of the stronger race enables us per se to practice the worst torture, injustice and exploitation of other animal species, with the only justification not to belong to the same species.

Every totalitarian system has perpetrators and victims.
We are on the side of the victims.

South Korea: Closing Stable Doors and Bolted Horses -President Moon Failed the Dogs In Hell Hole Meat Farms; Now South Korea Pays the ‘Karma’ Price for its Ignorance.

South Korea declares war on Coronavirus – but what about war on the terrible dog farms ? – after all; did it not all start at a live animal hellhole in China ? – is there not something to learn from all of this ? – it would appear that the people in charge ‘declaring war’ could not really fight their way out of a paper bag, let alone declare war !

Should President Moon have stuck with his Pre-election promises from 2017 and undertaken a ‘war’ with those involved in the live dog meat farms that so many have petitioned and provided graphic information on ? – after all, was it not the shitty squalid conditions in a Chinese live animal market where all this virus, which has now shut down the planet; started ?

We would think and hope that both the Chinese and South Koreans would put 2 and 2 together and come up with an answer of 4; they are supposed to be intelligent; but despite this, they seem incapable of looking at the root causes of the problems in their own nations – ie animal welfare. South Korea is starting now to pay the price for its past inactions – President Moon; you have failed your nation and you should have lived up to your pre election promises to take action for meat dogs. Kind of ‘Karma’ from the dogs one could say !

20 Aug 2018 South Korea’s President Moon Jae-In has been urged to end the brutal dog meat trade in his country. Animal protection campaigners in Seoul hand-delivered a petition signed by nearly 1 million people globally to the President’s residence, the Blue House.

Reports – Canine prejudice

The group rescued Tory two years ago, but has been unable to find an owner due to prejudices against black dogs in South Korea. The president says the adoption shows “that both humans and animals should be free from prejudice and discrimination,” Yonhap reports.

Animal rights formed part of President Moon’s election campaign, where he pledged to build more playgrounds for pets and feeding facilities for stray cats, the Korea Herald reports. However, he stopped short on a complete ban on dog meat trade, saying instead that it should be phased out.

Romania: Mass murder for pigs

In Romania, a large pig breeding facility again fell victim to the Danish DanBred group of African Swine Fever (ASF). The population of around 42,000 animals was culled immediately after the disease had been diagnosed in 23 pigs (!!!).

Romania

Last year, two other factories with more than 29,000 pigs had already been cleared from the company. According to the national veterinary authority, a large pig farm in the central southern region in the Argeş province, about 80 km west of the capital Bucharest is also affected. 23 pigs died of the deadly animal disease. The ASF also broke out in 37 backyard poses. Around 200 pigs were affected there.

Danbred In the now culled facility there were over 3,000 sows as well as the piglet rearing and part of the fattening. Image: Google Maps

In terms of area, more than half of the country is affected.

In addition, more than half a million pigs have been culled since the first ASF case in July 2017.

Part II (pink) are wild boars infected,

Ukraine also reports outbreaks of domestic pigs again. After a first case of ASF in a back yard in Greece in early February, no further outbreaks have been reported from there so far. The measures there seem to have taken effect.

Because Romania does not get the situation under control, the country has been banned from exporting to many foreign markets. However, this has no effect on the domestic price. This has even doubled due to the slump in domestic production and is now around € 4 per kg slaughter weight.

Experts anticipate that a price of over € 6 could be possible in the foreseeable future.

Some of the domestic producers are currently not allowed to export pork to the EU due to the disease in the country. The Union wants these conditions to prevent the virus from spreading to other countries.

https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/osteuropa/afrikanische-schweinepest-rumaenien-100.html

My comment: 42,000 healthy animals killed!
Because 23 pigs were infected with it?

The people who are most afraid of swine fever are the ones who let the pigs be slaughtered anyway: pig keepers.
Because if swine fever precedes them and even only one animal of their “herd” becomes infected with the disease, all animals must be killed prematurely.
A losing business for the farmers, because they only make money from the death of the pigs in the slaughterhouse..

And how is it in Germany?
Although in Germany there is not a single pig infected with the plague, the hunters “preventively” kill 600,000 wild boars per year.
Because the hunters blame these animals for the main bearers of the African plague.

Most farmers are also hunters and receive a special shot bonus.
Slaughter money / shooting money.
What more do you want as a pig farmer?

Why is no vaccine being developed?
“It is very difficult to put laboratory results into practice,” say us all those who tortured the animals in laboratories to develop the vaccine. But the “preventive killing” of 600,000 wild boars is cheaper and fun for the hunters.

So far, 157 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Germany.
Could someone come up with the same idea of “preventively” kill based on these 157 cases …

Dear Mark — Founder ‘Serbian Animals Voice’, https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/

In India, cows are sacred to many, yet dairy consumption is on the rise.
Our country is also a top beef-exporting nation, second only to Brazil . Coincidence?

Absolutely not. In episode 107 of PETA US’ The PETA Podcast, author Poorva Joshipura reveals a connection between the beef and dairy industries that may surprise you, provides a first-hand account of the slaughter system, and explains why a quick meal is never worth a lifetime of suffering for cows, chickens, or other animals.

WAV Comment – The crap legislators at the EU have the audacity to say that there will be no access for the UK if ‘animal welfare standards are not protected’ !!

Watch the videos in the above links and see how the EU ‘protects it animals during transport; farming; foie gras production etc’. The EU is filth; and don’t ever take them as being any other way.

From day 1 when the UK voted to leave the EU, the EU has tried everything in its power to make things extra difficult. Now we read here from the Eurogroup that the European Parliament declares that there should be no access for GB if animal welfare standards are not protected.

The UK is a world leader in animal welfare. She has used her position in the EU to influence animal protection policy in the largest trading bloc in the world. For instance, the UK was the driving force behind Article 13 of the Treaty of Lisbon, which recognises animals as sentient beings. Based on the Treaty of Lisbon, the EU and member states must pay full regard to the welfare of animals when formulating and implementing policy. By ‘must pay’ simply read ‘ignore’; because that is the reality.

‘Brexit: getting the best deal for animals’ is a wide-ranging report published by the Wildlife and Countryside Link (Link) and the UK Centre for Animal Law (A-Law). The report is a product of a large coalition of leading UK animal protection NGOs including the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), World Animal Protection (WAP) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). The report describes how Brexit presents a major juncture in the history of UK animal protection:

‘As the UK prepares to leave the EU (it has now left), the welfare of animals is at a critical crossroads and selecting the route ahead will determine the welfare of billions of animals. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to either define or undermine our country’s identity and reputation as a global leader in animal welfare science and standards’.

Lets look at this again – ‘no access for GB if animal welfare standards are not protected’. So the EU is saying that the UK does not meet its ‘standards’ ?- lets see; That is the EU standards which include.

Exporting live animals

The EU allegedly puts a number of restrictions (Regulation 1/2005) on exporting live animals for slaughter or further fattening, such as ensuring adequate space, and providing food, water and rest, which all EU member states are supposed to abide by; but simply don’t (see video footage in above links). As we have shown so many times on WAV; the ‘protection’ of live animals transported across the EU – Reg 1/2005 is a complete and utter joke.. The regulations were implemented into the UK (by legislation) in 2007.

Member countries are allegedly entitled to take stricter measures, if they wish – the EU welfare standards are supposedly a minimum all countries have to follow, but do not. Again, watch the videos above to see non compliances.

If the UK wanted to put further restrictions on live animal exports Reg 1/2005, it could do so while it was still in the EU.

But if it (UK) wanted to fully ban live animal exports whilst a member state of the EU, it would not be allowed to do so under the current EU single market rules. But now (2020) free from the shackles of the EU; the UK is free to; and will, ban the export of live animals.

After the UK leaves the EU, which it has now done; a ban on the export of live animals could still be challenged under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.

Export bans are prohibited by the WTO, but bans that protect endangered species and animal welfare, including ensuring that animals are not killed inhumanely, are allowed. So, there is a basis for challenging a ban under WTO, but there would also be a basis for defending it.

There is a private member’s bill being put forward by (UK) Conservative MP Theresa Villiers that would ban live exports “for slaughter or fattening, and for connected purposes”, but it stands little chance of becoming law without government support. But now (in 2020) the government has 80+ MP’s majority; to support votes in Parliament; there is little doubt that this ban would be voted through.

Animal welfare standards

The EU has a wide range of animal welfare laws the UK has had to abide by. These include consumer-information law, such as the labelling of eggs from battery hens.

It also regulates the use of animals in research, and it bans cosmetics tested on animals.

On top of these laws, individual countries can set their own animal welfare standards as long as they do not affect the operation of the EU’s single market (in the UK, the issue is devolved).

For example, the UK, as well as most other EU countries, has domestic legislation that prohibits production of foie gras on animal welfare grounds.

Belgium, France, Hungary, Spain and Bulgaria do not prohibit the production and under the EU principle of free movement of goods, the UK was in the position that as an EU member state; it was unable to ban the import of foie gras

As a (now) non EU member, it can now ban the import of foie gras into the UK.

Exploitative trade in pets

The UK government says EU rules on the pet travel scheme restrict the UK’s ability to crack down on puppy smuggling.

The EU pet travel scheme enables the owners of dogs, cats and ferrets to move freely between EU countries with their pets, providing their pet is micro-chipped, has a pet passport, has been vaccinated against rabies and, in the case of dogs, treated for tapeworm.

Pets have to be at least 15 weeks of age before they can travel, and one person can travel with up to five pets.

Pet passports are issued by EU countries and a short list of other countries such as Norway, Iceland and Switzerland.

However, the UK charity Dogs Trust, in its report on puppy smuggling, says the EU pet travel scheme is abused by gangs in Hungary, Poland, Lithuania and elsewhere, who take puppies as young as four weeks from their mothers and transport them hundreds of miles in poor conditions to British ports, often with little food and water, to be sold in the UK.

The UK has been a particularly attractive target for EU puppy smugglers because of the relatively high prices that some breeds command. Outside the EU membership, though, it (UK) could also introduce stricter rules for importing puppies from other EU member states

Now the UK has left the EU; it can make parliamentary changes to resolve the smuggling.

So much then for the EU telling the UK that it needs to step up to the EU plate with regard animal welfare.

As an organisation partly based in the UK (England); we take this EU statement as a complete and utter insult. When the EU enforces all the un enforced activities which are shown in the above video links, then they can talk. Until then, we kindly suggest the EU shuts its mouth and continues to do what it does best – which is nothing apart from writing pathetic regulations on bits of paper; which in reality, it never enforces !

Don’t tell the UK to get better; it is already a lot better than most other member states of the EU when it comes to animal welfare legislation enforcement. It is not perfect; nobody is, but at least we in the UK do not have the situation of the arsonist as the head of the fire brigade !

Only in meat mafia world; the EU, does this happen continually.

Kenya: No more torture for Ejiao

SUCCESS: Kenya bans donkey killing for Ejiao after PETA pressure!!

kenia-pg
After almost two years of pressure from PETA, Cabinet Secretary of the Kenyan Department of Agriculture, Peter Munya, has finally banned donkey slaughterhouses in the country. The ban should come into force in March 2020.

ejiao chinag

So far, at least 1,000 donkeys have been slaughtered in Kenya every day to be exported to China. There their skin is boiled down to Ejiao, an ingredient for medicines, cosmetics and sweets. Many thanks to the over 10,000 supporters who signed our online petition.

Original article:

In 2017, a PETA investigation revealed massive animal cruelty on Chinese donkey farms. As the pictures showed, workers hit the donkeys on the head with a sledgehammer, then they cut the animals’ throats with a knife.
The background to this cruelty to animals is the production of “Ejiao”, a traditional Chinese “medicine” in which the donkey skin is boiled down to gelatin.

Ejiao-Gelatinejpg

Now, a new PETA video reveal has revealed unspeakable cruelty in donkey slaughter in Kenya. The animals are also being killed there to meet Chinese demand for Ejiao. The photos show workers beating asses that are completely scared. The cruelty to animals occurred in state-approved slaughterhouses.

esel-china

Transport for days to the slaughterhouse
Kenya has opened three donkey slaughterhouses in the past three years. The animals are transported in trucks from neighboring countries to Kenya, because in many African countries, including Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda, the cruel slaughter is already prohibited by law. The painful journey to the slaughterhouse in Kenya can take several days.

Injuries and deaths during transportation

Esel-Schlachtung-Kenia-2-c-PETA-Asia

Eyewitnesses came across dead donkeys that had not survived the painful transport. The animals were simply dumped in front of the slaughterhouse. The eyewitnesses also saw a donkey who was apparently injured and could not get up. Workers dragged him out of the truck and left him at the front gate. Apparently the animal did not receive any medical treatment – they just left it to its suffering.

Esel-Schlachtung-Kenia-PETA-Asia

Kenya must ban this cruel practice

Many African countries have already banned the export of donkey skins or closed Chinese-owned slaughterhouses, including Botswana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda. Even the official Chinese National Health and Family Planning Commission warns that donkey skin gelatin is really nothing more than “overcooked donkey skin”.

However, donkeys are still being slaughtered in countries like Kenya to meet Chinese demand for Ejiao.

There is no law against animal abuse in farms or slaughterhouses in Kenya. From a legal point of view, therefore, not one of the acts seen in the recordings is punishable.

PETA and PETA’s international partner organizations have contacted numerous authorities, companies and consumers worldwide and asked them not to support this cruel industry. There are several alternatives to Ejiao, for example modern medicines or herbal substances, which in contrast to Ejiao are really effective and do not cause animal suffering.

https://www.peta.de/eselhaut-kenia

My comment:  Ejiao is considered an extremely popular medication for a variety of complaints in China and is used in particular as a blood tonic: Ejiao is said to heal skin aging, infertility and impotence (!!!)
The demand from China is high.
According to Chinese media, the price is $ 780 per kilo. Animal welfare organization The Donkey Sanctuary estimates that the Ejiao industry needs five million donkey skins each year.
China’s own donkey population has shrunk from 11 million animals in 1992 to 4.6 million animals in 2018, according to the UN. Therefore, African donkeys must now serve.
That is why China buys donkey skin from African countries.

But Kenya has finally realized that this miserable business must end.
It was no accident that in September and at the Africa Animal Welfare Conference in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, there was sharp criticism of Kenya for the mass slaughter of donkeys.

And now the new “ivory” is over!
The Chinese should look for herbal remedies for their potency.
And make sure they don’t overdo it, because the more the potency increases, the more damage is done to the planet.
And that applies not only to the Chinese, but to global growth.

Dear Mark,

Back in 2014, PETA exposed extreme cruelty to sheep in Australia, and six shearers pleaded guilty. The wool industry called that case a “wake-up call” that had forever changed it. But just days before those claims of reforms, another eyewitness was inside the sheds seeing exactly the same abuse as before. In December 2017, the wool industry again condemned such cruelty, and again, it vowed that it and the shearers would do better.

But nothing changed.

In late 2017, another eyewitness went inside 16 shearing sheds in South Australia and Victoria, documenting the same sickening cruelty that PETA has exposed again and again.

Workers still struck petrified sheep in the face with sharp metal clippers.

They still cut them and stitched up their gaping wounds without any pain relief. And they still threw them out of the sheds.

Based on this evidence, officials in Victoria filed a new round of cruelty-to-animals charges and a shearer has pleaded guilty.

Does this look better to you?

Does it look like the industry has changed one bit?

Are you still wearing wool? If you are, please stop. Now is the time to rid your home of wool. What more do you need to see before you stop wearing wool?

No matter where it comes from or what assurances companies give you—even if Eddie Bauer and Eileen Fisher, which sell dozens of items made of wool, do tout their commitment to the Responsible Wool Standard—cruelty to sheep is rampant in the wool industry.

Please, join us in urging Eddie Bauer and Eileen Fisher to drop the charade—and wool—in favour of animal-friendly materials.

Sincerely,

Daniel Paden
