Stop Crushing Turkeys’ Necks With Pliers

Petition Link: https://forcechange.com/548958/stop-selling-animal-cruelty-to-the-public/

Target: Mike Coupe, CEO of Sainsbury’s

Goal: Drop farm with alleged history of animal cruelty from turkey supply chain.

This year’s Christmas dinners in Britain are allegedly coming at the expense of countless turkeys suffering inhumane, barbaric deaths. A three-month-long investigation by an animal advocacy group yielded some horrific accusations against one of the country’s most expansive turkey producers, Gravel Farms.

In deeply disturbing footage, a worker can reportedly be seen snapping two distressed turkeys’ necks with a pair of pliers. This outrageous action could represent just a small sampling of the cruelty these vulnerable birds may endure at the farm.

The use of such “neck crushing devices” is strongly discouraged by the RSPCA and the Humane Slaughter Association. Even turkeys that did not suffer this indignity still seemingly received horrid treatment, according to the investigation.

Many birds apparently died from untreated injuries and wounds. While the country’s most prominent food standards agency has dropped Gravel Farms from its supply chain, the large supermarket chain that sustains much of this farm’s business has not taken similar steps.

Sign this petition to demand the Sainsbury’s supermarket chain stop enabling and paying for allegedly widespread animal cruelty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Coupe,

The recent footage unearthed from Gravel Farms depicting seemingly grotesque animal cruelty should be a moment of awakening. Have you witnessed the horrific conditions and treatment the turkeys that this farm supplies to you reportedly endure? If you by some chance have not, let’s elaborate.

At least two distressed, innocent living beings allegedly had their necks brutally broken by a worker with crushing pliers. Several more birds reportedly lived for days and weeks with open, increasingly severe wounds to which many eventually succumbed. Is this inhumanity the welfare and hygiene standard that your respected organization desires to present to the public?

If not, make the right decision and act against this alleged cruelty. Don’t support such barbaric atrocities with your money or your silence.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here.]

Dear Mark,

Our brand new Puppytown is officially open!

With a capacity to hold 80 delightful squigglers,

puppies with fractures, wounds and illnesses now have a bright, warm-in-winter, cool-in-summer area where they are treated and comfortably housed in double-decker kennels suitable for three to five puppies together, on easy-to-clean tiles.

We are so proud of this important facilities upgrade: the previous puppy area was built in 2012 and was in need of a re-model.

We thank you deeply for giving us the means to serve all the lives we can–including our tiniest rescues who, being especially vulnerable, need extra care.

We continue to need your help with medicine and on-going care while the pups recover.

Please donate!

Trusting Vishwas nearly lost his hoof when his owner tied his legs together

This courageous donkey gave human beings the chance to help him after nearly losing his hoof and his life. His owner, perhaps to keep him from running away, had tied his front and hind legs together to ensure that the pain kept him from trotting and getting away. We don’t know who the owner is or how this sweetheart escaped, but the plastic packing tape that bound him hock to hock almost killed him.

In the course of our rescues, we see painfully often that animal abuse is the norm whenever animals are owned for a financial purpose, whether it’s for their meat, eggs or milk or in this case, for Vishwas’s labour.

Please donate to show animals like Vishwas the compassionate side of humanity.

Gorgeous Zarin’s happy new start…

Beautiful Zarin must have been a puppy when someone tied a rope around her neck, but no one removed it as she grew. Slowly it became tighter, then so tight that it cut right through the skin. But the constricted neck and massive flesh wound was partially hidden by her fur, until it had become so deep and the abraded tissue so bright that, finally, someone noticed her huge problem.

We hurried her back to our hospital, removed the rope, thoroughly flushed the wound, treated her for infection and began the beautiful process of her healing.
You’ll definitely see why we say Zarin is one of the sweetest girls we’ve ever met.  Please donate.

It’s easy to under-estimate the complexity of what it means to drive one of Animal Aid’s ambulances. The driver, who also serves as a rescuer, helps safely rescue injured animals, provides first aid, navigates down narrow and busy lanes, and is the face of Animal Aid to the community. We’re proud to have Kamlesh Sharma as one of our stalwart ambulance drivers and rescuers. He has served with us for 2 years so far, but despite that relatively short time, his wonderful work reflects our deepest philosophy: help the vulnerable and treat them gently

Delicacy from the torture chamber: the christmas geese

Stuffed, fattened, tortured: the life of the Christmas geese

gaensefolter__8

The so-called Christmas celebrations together with the New Year and the so-called Easter festivals have become the cruelest slaughter festivals of mankind, which among other things bring painful deaths to millions of geese and other animals.

In reality, it is a festival for the animal cannibal connoisseur and not a festival of love, the festival of Christmas.

Turkeys are often taken from their barns late at night, to make it easier for workers to collect them. They are picked up by their ankles, carried upside down and roughly shoved into crates.
During this process, their bones—weakened and brittle from the lack of sunlight and nutrition—are often broken, and their bodies bruised. They are then transported to a slaughterhouse.

weihnachtsgänse 2jpg

Across the world, it is often legal to transport turkeys without food and water for days on end, in open-sided crates where they are exposed to weather extremes from scorching heat to freezing sub-zero temperatures.

Thousands of individuals die during transportation.

ganz stopfleberpg
Those that reach the slaughterhouse alive are grabbed and hung upside down, causing even more pain and distress. Their heads are dragged through an electrified “stunning tank,” which aims to immobilise them; however, many will attempt to dodge this, and so are not stunned.

hängender Kopf Gansjpg
Furthermore, studies have shown that whilst their bodies may be immobilised, they can still understand what is happening, and still feel pain. This isn’t a step designed to make their slaughter less painful—it’s designed to make it easier for workers to kill them. Following this, they have their throats slit.
Again, this isn’t always effective, and those that survive this step will be boiled alive in a tank of hot water used for feather removal.

And does anyone really believe that the animal has no sensations and has no idea what terrible things will soon happen to it?

The suffering of the geese begins at the latest before the church’s so-called “Martin’s Day” on November 11th, when they are declared “Martin’s geese” according to church tradition and their necks are therefore turned around.

Meat consumption, the priesthood and the church have been closely linked in our culture since their beginnings. But the leading politicians together with the church authorities are very bad role models on the days off in December.

So it was already in the newspaper “Die Welt” in 2010: Angela Merkel fries her Christmas goose herself (December 21, 2010). And the year before, the “Main Echo” wrote:
“At Christmas the Chancellor must have a goose, otherwise it is not a real Christmas, Merkel knows no pardon. The poultry is plucked and goes into the stove”.

It is not known that something has changed since then with the Chancellor.

The question is: Do the meat eaters really want to eat animals that were kept in this way? Do you really want to take part in this stupid, bloody and cruel animal tradition?

We cannot wish a good appetite and merry Christmas to eyeryone who  celebrates this festival with a corpse on his table.

We don’t feel like celebrating with them.

Our message is: let the geese live! And let the other animals live, too, the ducks, the turkeys, the chickens, the calves, the lambs, the deer, the pigs and the many other animals, which, especially on the big church slaughter days, still raise up to hundreds of thousands, even millions most terrible way to lose their lives.

England: Dismantle Dairy – A New Campaign by ‘Surge’.

flagge-von-england-r5320m

With thanks to Stacey – https://our-compass.org/2019/12/16/dismantle-dairy/

Surge have launched a brand new campaign Dismantle Dairy, featuring 18 months of undercover footage obtained from inside UK dairy farms. Independent investigators placed hidden cameras in dairy farms around the UK, as well as obtaining HD footage during visits. The footage revealed widespread incidences of physical and emotional abuse of mothers and calves.

Surge found repeated incidences of punching, kicking, excessive tail twisting, swearing/shouting, beating with sticks, separation of calves from their mothers, force-feeding of calves and the disposal of calves. Investigators also recorded HD footage during visits, capturing harrowing scenes such as dead cows and calves left to rot outside for days.

However, rather than draw attention to individual farms and create the impression that these are isolated cases or “bad eggs”, the campaign seeks to expose the dairy industry as a whole, revealing how even standard practices such as separation at birth and removal of calves is abuse. Violence on dairy farms is ubiquitous and occurs in all farms, including those associated with high ranking officials within the industry.

This is not about one “bad farm”, or one “bad farmer”, Dismantle Dairy is about the foundations the dairy industry is built upon. Standard, legal dairy industry practice involves (but is not limited to):

Artificially inseminating dairy cows.
Separating babies from their mothers (usually within 24 – 72 hours of birth).
Killing ‘useless’ male calves soon after they are born (this is known as the “dirty secret” within the industry).
Keeping newborn calves in solitary confinement pens.
Sending dairy cows to slaughter when they can no longer produce milk for the farmer.

Prior to the campaign release, the authorities including the RSPCA and APHA have been notified of the farms and footage where necessary.

See more in the The Independent:

Cows sexually abused, hit and punched at company owned by NFU deputy president, footage shows

This particular farm is owned by Guy Smith, Deputy President of The National Farmers’ Union, the largest organisation representing farmers in the UK. What we found on the farm was so horrific, so brutal, that The Independent couldn’t show all of it in their press video; however, it is available to watch below:

Romania: Surviving Sheep To Be Given Sanctuary ? – A Message From Lyn White (Animals Australia).

RMNA0001

ROMANIA-SAUDI-ARABIA-SHEEPS

Mark,

I wanted to get in touch with an update about the capsized live export ship disaster in Romania. Last time I emailed, I asked if you could help us call on the Romanian Government to save the survivors stranded in the upturned ship out on the ocean.

Thank you for taking that action, Mark. Your voice, alongside thousands of our other dedicated supporters, helped save 180 lives. These gentle sheep are now safe. Thank you.

Your determination — in unity with rescuers and thousands of other caring people globally — provided the beacon of hope amidst the overwhelming tragedy.

The rescued sheep are currently under the care of the Romanian veterinary authority, and the Prime Minister of Romania has given his word that he will do everything he can to ensure the sheep will soon be transferred to sanctuaries where they can live their lives in peace.

ROMANIA-SAUDI-ARABIA-SHEEPS

But your advocacy goes beyond the immediate situation to save the survivors. You’ve directly contributed to a kinder future for all sheep who face live export in Romania. Since you and others so strongly encouraged the country’s Prime Minister to take urgent action, a bill to end live export has been put forward in the Romanian Parliament.

The Prime Minister himself has acknowledged the need for this cruel trade to end. Romania is Europe’s biggest exporter of live animals — this is historic, and such progress could very well have taken years. But ending live export is now firmly on the political agenda there.

While we still have a long way to go, Mark, I can tell you with certainty that without your action on behalf of these animals, these historic steps forward simply couldn’t have been achieved.

As I know you understand, this disaster has again highlighted the needless cruelty at the heart of all live export. You helped save those who could be saved, but together we will never forget the tens of thousands onboard who perished, for nothing other than profit. I know we are now only more committed to ending live export globally, for good. Heartfelt thanks for providing such crucial support towards that goal, now and in the future.

For the animals,

Lyn

Denmark: Petition – Petition – Stop Breeding Pigs to Death.

Petition – Stop Breeding Pigs to Death

Petition link – https://forcechange.com/548427/stop-breeding-pigs-to-death/

Target: Henrik Studsgaard, Secretary of Denmark’s Ministry of Environment and Food

Goal: Revise rapid replacement breeding methods that prematurely end pigs’ lives.

Half a million sows face slaughter annually in Denmark: an estimated half of the country’s total pig population. Of these slaughtered sows, only about 15 percent will be killed because of sickness. Instead, the majority of pigs are seemingly put down because they can no longer pump out enough young piglets to satisfy Denmark’s profit-rich, welfare-impoverished pork market.

This market fuels the agriculture-driven economy of Denmark, and it is heavily subsidized by the government. These heavy investments have led to sows birthing as many as 35 piglets per year. While these numbers soar past global averages, they often prove devastating to the sows’ health and well-being.

Denmark also leads the way in sow mortality rates. Over 10 percent of the animals essentially either drop dead in their pigsties or must be euthanized because they are too incapacitated to function. Even when they do survive this grueling existence, slaughter still awaits the poor sows after they have given birth to two or three litters… and apparently outlived their usefulness. Perhaps worst of all, Denmark’s supposedly ‘superior’ methods for pig production are being ramped up and exported to other countries.

Sign this petition to urge government officials to honour their oath in making animal welfare a central part of this unforgiving, often abusive process.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Studsgaard,

“I am ready to welcome the aim of producing twice as many pigs in Denmark if we can handle both animal welfare and the environment.” The facts are clear: Denmark has not met the benchmark envisioned by your predecessor. Upwards of 500,000 sows lose their lives prematurely every year because of “fertility” or “mothering” issues. Thousands of others apparently drop dead from the wear and strain imposed on them. In regards to animal welfare, Denmark has not offered much in the way of “handling.”

The “rapid replacement” philosophy not only leaves hundreds of thousands of animals subject to unneeded slaughter, but it also undermines any claims of production efficiency. This country is summarily killing half its pig population every year. In many cases, you discard more than you produce. Humane breeding and production methods may hinder profits in the short-term, but long-term gains would make the commitment more than worthwhile.

Please end rapid replacement breeding and implement human standards for pigs, for the longevity of your agricultural sector and, more importantly, for the health and well-being of these living beings entrusted to your care.

Sincerely,

{Your Name Here]

Spain: Petition – Prohibit the Sale of (Farm) Produced Pets.

Prohibit the sale of pets in Spain

We arrive at that time of year when many people think of giving a dog to their children for Christmas, a dog that will surely be abandoned when the child gets bored. This happens every year, as in the holidays, so we have so many dogs abandoned in the streets. But that is not all abuse, since those puppies they sell come from hatcheries where their parents live constantly being mistreated.
