Caging animals is cruel: animals are sentient beings, capable of feeling pain and joy. Caged animals endure immense suffering because they have no control over their lives, experience extreme frustration, are severely restricted in their movement, and are prevented from performing almost all natural behaviours.

Hundreds of millions of farm animals across the EU are forced to live their entire lives imprisoned in tiny, barren cages. This extreme confinement is routinely inflicted on many different species. Sows are forced to nurse their piglets in crates, rabbits and quail endure their whole lives in barren cages, and ducks and geese are caged for force feeding to produce foie gras.

Cage Facts EU 2018y to finally End the Cage Age.

Together, united, we have the opportunity to rid Europe of these cages. Start today – join up and sign our ECI (European Citizens’ Initiative) demanding that the European Commission bans the use of cages in animal farming. If one million of us raise our voices together, we have the opportunity to finally End the Cage Age.

Ban the use of farrowing crates in the UK

Farrowing crates, profoundly similar to sow crates which were banned in the UK in 1999, are long, narrow crates in which sows are contained during gestation. It’s still legal to use farrowing crates in spite of them having the same implications to animal welfare as the sow/gestation crates.

farrow 2

Pigs are intelligent, sentient beings and these crates deny their natural behaviours. This frustration can be displaced to damaging abnormal behaviours such as self-mutilation due to the intensive conditions. Farrowing crates severely restrict the sow’s movement and deny them the instinctual urge to build a nest, worsening their frustrations. Having been made illegal in Sweden, Norway and Switzerland, we should follow this route of progression to maintain our reputation for good animal welfare.

Spain: Bullfighting – ‘A National Fiesta’ and ‘Sacrifices Made By Bullfighters’ ! !

Protesters Denounce ‘Barbaric’ Bullfight in Albox, Spain

For the first time in 15 years, bullfighting has reappeared in Albox, a municipality in the Spanish province of Almeria. The cruel sport was included on this year’s All Saints Day itinerary — a council decision that was defended by local mayor Francisco Torrecilla in an interview with the Euro Weekly News.

‘A National Fiesta’

Torrecilla stated that his administration received an overwhelming number of requests from bullfighting enthusiasts for a revival of the sport. He also justified the decision by pointing out that bullfighting has ‘national fiesta’ status and is not illegal.

Others have defended the return of bullfighting to Albox. One local, Manuel Gutierrez, stated of the protesters: “They don’t understand the fiesta. They don’t know about the money it generates.”

The Bulls ‘Privileged Life’ (?) Prior To Its Entry Into The Ring

Sacrifices Made By Bullfighters (?)

Joaquin Horta of Granada, who was working the ticket booth, believes that people who are against bullfighting don’t consider a bull’s “privileged life” prior to its entry into the ring or the “sacrifices” made by bullfighters.

bullfight

Despite such glorification of the sport, its incorporation into the All Saints Day program was also met with opposition. A peaceful protest was held by Antitaurinos Almeria, an anti-bullfighting organization, in front of the temporary ring in La Molata.

Protesters made their concerns clear at the demonstration, shouting statements like “this is a national disgrace” and “this is not for children.” They also blew whistles and waved placards. Among the protesters were expatriates and British residents.

One protester, Audrey Bullen, described bullfighting as “unspeakable” and “barbaric.” She also pointed out the apparent hypocrisy of a country that is known for its animal welfare campaigns condoning the sport.

Vicky Evans, a volunteer with the Albox-based animal rights organization APSA, was motivated to participate in the protest by her strong convictions against bullfighting. It was the first protest she ever attended.

Amparo Rodriguez likened the sport’s comeback in Albox to “an enormous step backwards in a civilized society” and echoed the sentiments of many anti-bullfighting activists: “There is no tradition, culture or art in something which is the suffering of a living creature.”

Olaf’s wound was so deep his ribs were exposed, but meet this happy boy today!

This was one of the most appalling wounds we’ve ever seen. A donkey, wandering in the street, was found with his chest slashed open by a gaping wound so deep it exposed his ribs. We weren’t sure he could survive, but we knew we had to try to help him. We hurried him back to our hospital and began what would become 6 weeks of daily wound dressing. Watch this astounding rescue, hold on to your heart, and stay with us til the very happy ending.

Terribly wounded animals can be happy again with your help. Please donate today.

Sweetest puppy with extremely painful infected eye rescued

This little sweetheart was broken-hearted in pain from a terribly infected eye. The kind man who was feeding him called us because the puppy’s inflamed, enormous eye was almost double the size of the other one. The sorrowful and so-so serious look on this angel’s face told us how urgently he needed help. Back in Animal Aid, we immediately started him on a course of antibiotic eye drops and made sure to give him lots of cuddles while he healed. And this eager little trooper paid us back, with love. Meet Peepers today.

Please donate for small angels who need help.

Dog choking on his own blood rescued after accident

A river of blood made a heartbreaking pool as this gentle sweetheart struggled to breathe through the gurgling clots after he suffered a head injury, probably caused by a car accident. We rushed him back to Animal Aid’s hospital where his examination revealed that although he had no fractures, he was no longer able to hold his head up or stand without support. Weeks of physiotherapy followed and with each passing day, this gentle hero grew sweeter. Meet Moonbeam today.

Please donate to save more precious victims like Moonbeam.

Celebrate the Staff: Deendayal!

DD

The saying “if you want to get something done, ask a busy person” was made with Deendayal Gora in mind. His motto is a simple “yes” whether arranging a vehicle for a buffalo accident 50 km far or getting an electrician for a light repair at 11 pm at night; from ordering blankets to lodging a cruelty case with police! We want to honor him today for his 4 years of service, for being the guy you call in the middle of the night when a leopard has jumped into the shelter and, or call in middle of the day when the water pump has busted. He is magically able to be two places at one time. We don’t have a title for his position because we can’t make one long enough. Thank you DD!

Sponsor a Sweetheart —

the kindest Christmas Gift.

Darling Luna has a condition called cerebullar hypoplasia, from inadequate development of the part of her brain that controls motor functions. This means that she has very wobbly legs and it’s hard for her to balance.

But this doesn’t stop Luna from being one of the most playful and loving girls we’ve ever met. She is all heart, and even though she falls down, gets covered in her food when she eats, and has to try extra hard just to stay standing in one place, she is full of determination and joy.

Luna could never survive on the street, so she relies on sponsorships from caring supporters like you to give her a life-long home full of love and care at Animal Aid.

France: Force Feeding Is Not Festive.

FRAN0001

Force-feeding isn’t festive

Dear Mark,
To our amazement, many foie gras farms in France offer public tours. We recently visited one to witness the production of this cruel ‘delicacy’ first hand. We were welcomed onto the farm and witnessed terrified, panting ducks crammed into tiny, filthy cages and geese struggling to escape as a vast amount of food was pumped down their throats using a large metal tube.

Actor and animal advocate, Peter Egan and TV veterinarian, Emma Milne joined us on the visit to ‘La Ferme Turnac’ foie gras farm in France. They were both shocked that the farm was happy to put this horrific cruelty on display for families to watch. The harrowing investigation is featured in today’s Mirror newspaper, and we’re using this as an opportunity to launch a new aspect to our #FoieGrasFreeGB campaign.

Over 115,000 people have now signed our petition calling for a foie gras import ban as soon as we leave the European Union. However, while we’re still in the European Single Market, a ban isn’t yet possible. That’s why we’re calling on restaurants and shops to impose their own ban on this extremely cruel product now, starting with a protest at Tate Modern in central London today.

Ironically, many restaurants — like the Tate Modern’s — only offer foie gras on their Christmas menu as it’s seen as a luxury, yet there is nothing festive about force-feeding birds until their livers become fatty and diseased. If you see a restaurant serving foie gras this Christmas, please let us know and we’ll pressure them to drop it from their menu.

Many thanks,

Toni Shephard

November 2018: Scottish Farmers Now Exporting Calves Via Ramsgate (England) With Help From Dutchman ‘Oderwater’.

Our first time bearing witness to the live exports that happen at Ramsgate Port. 4 week old veal calves crying for their mum. I was not prepared for how small they were. They are the byproducts of the dairy industry. We can consume oat, soy, hemp, almond, hazelnut milk instead. We don’t have to be a part of this

Archive footage – Published on 9 May 2012

In late 2011 Compassion in World Farming initiated a series of investigations into the export of live farm animals from the UK. And, in early 2012, generous donations from Compassion supporters enabled our team to continue the campaign, trailing a lorry carrying calves from the UK, through France and into Spain — simply to be fattened for the veal trade. These young calves were loaded on a farm in the west of England and transported, over a period of almost 60 hours, to a farm in northern Spain.

Reality slaughterhouse: Kicked, tormented, torn alive.

Germany

In Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, is one of the largest cattle slaughterhouses in Germany. Its name: Standard-Fleisch GmbH & Co. KG.

realität schlachthof 2

The german animal welfare office has collected around 600 hours of video footage taken with a hidden camera. (To see the video please click on the link):

https://www.tierschutzbuero.de/realitaet-schlachthof/

And what you see there makes everyone shudder.
The resulting videos show how a large number of cattle and disused dairy cows were insufficiently and improperly stunned, and although they were apparently conscious, were still stung alive and killed.
The animals are kicked in the slaughterhouse, tortured and torn alive.

realität schlachthof 4

In addition, the animals were treated with electric shock gun up to 28 times unlawfully abused, with driving spurs or forcibly forced out of their pit and unnecessarily exposed to injury hazards.

realität schlachthof 1
An excerpt from this horror scenario in the slaughterhouse Oldenburg was broadcast on 06.11.2018 at 17:00 and at 19:00 clock on ZDF (Central German Television).

Jan Peifer, chairman of the board of the German Animal Welfare Office proves with videos that many animals still live as they are tapped. A video surveillance in slaughterhouses, preferably already in the animal transports, would be absolutely necessary.

The states, of course, has the German animal welfare office immediately reported to the relevant prosecutor! Now it is up to the competent authorities to close this horror slaughterhouse immediately! Otherwise, in the future, unbelievably many animals will suffer from the conditions in Oldenburg. Because the slaughterhouse is not one from many, but belongs to the ten largest cattle slaughterhouses in Germany (2016: Rank 8)! According to their own data, the annual slaughter rate is over 90,000 cattle. The slaughterhouse has also BIO certification!!

The uncovered conditions in Oldenburg are another case in a series of extreme scandals in German slaughterhouses in recent months. To date, five slaughterhouses have been closed temporarily or permanently for animal cruelty and other violations of the law after animal rights activists have carried out undercover research.

Please sign the petition for closing of this slaughterhouse:

http://www.tierschutzbuero.de/realitaet-schlachthof/petition/?fbclid=

My comment: if you look at the video … a hell on earth!

Screams of death – and the animal still moves its head vertically and horizontally and wriggles in circular movements.

More horror can not exist. How is it possible that the majority of people accept this?

Finally, the case came on the biggest German channel, I wonder: what did the people feel when they saw that? And what else do the Meat-eaters want to see, so they stop torturing defenseless animals with their second-hand consumption?

The hope for an end to such crematoria is the pressure on corrupt politicians who are inactive against such serious crimes. Animal rights must become a political issue.
