England: 15 Minutes To Appreciate.

England

I was up real early this morning – like one of those days when you cannot sleep whatever.

I sat in the kitchen with a cup of tea and watched the sun appear out of the darkness into what would be a (weather wise) rather sunny and nice day here. We have some large trees at the end of the garden; and watching the sun show its face to illuminate them was something so very normal, but also beautiful to sit and watch. People take it for granted; but today for me was a treat. At that time of early morning there was a kind of tranquillity about the place; I had 15 minutes to escape the crap of Coronavirus and all the terrible abuses around the world that animals suffer and we, as WAV and SAV see each and every day, like many other campaigners, because governments have not got the nerve to tell the Chinese (or others) to change their attitude and approach to animals. Maybe it is needed in their own country, let alone overseas !

Sadly, tens of millions of animals confined in the worlds cages will never experience what I took as ‘another day’ of light and sun this morning.

Then it dawned on me – the sun that is; and another day started with regard trying to speak up for the innocent and voiceless. At least we can say our bit and show things to you; even if it results in no action by those in power. But remember, knowledge IS power; so don’t shut up being a voice for whatever your causes are – animals, human rights, the environment etc

I took a few (bad) shots of the new day dawn out of the window – they are nothing, just a ‘spur of the moment’ thing, but at that moment; they were kind of special; a joy to witness.

All the birds started to appear for their breakfast; which was great to see.

Sometimes the simple things in life are the best – no money issues, no politicians, no Coronavirus – my ‘patch’ seemed at peace for a few minutes. If only the world could be like that ……….

Regards Mark.

Nepal`s shame: Chitwan Elephant Festival.

Eyewitness video footage shows elephants who were forced to participate in the cruel Chitwan Elephant Festival in Nepal being repeatedly struck and gouged with bullhooks—spear-like weapons with a sharp hook on one end—and their ears being violently yanked.

nepal-flag-

Mahouts (handlers) also beat frightened elephants with other weapons, such as sticks and makeshift wooden knives.

elephant festival

One mahout can be seen repeatedly jabbing a baby elephant behind the ear to force her to “play” soccer. Right after the match, eyewitnesses saw that she had several fresh, painful, bloody wounds.

When these elephants aren’t being forced to perform at this festival, they’re used for rides by tourists visiting Chitwan. Elephants who are forced to “play” polo or give rides are controlled through physical violence and psychological domination.

They’re chained and beaten with bullhooks or other weapons and constantly threatened with violence to keep them afraid and submissive.

Elephants used for polo games, rides, shows, and other forms of entertainment suffer tremendously. Even when not performing, they’re typically deprived of everything that’s natural and important to them.

If we take an honest look at the reality of life in captivity for elephants compared to the life that they would have in nature, we can see that the “trainers” have utterly degraded these magnificent animals.

elephant festival Nepaljpg

Elephants are highly social beings who thrive in matriarchal herds, protecting each other, caring for their babies, and traveling many miles a day.

They experience joy, sadness, and fear. Their rituals of mourning the deaths of family members rival any that humans have developed. But throughout Nepal, baby elephants are routinely beaten and subjected to other egregiously cruel forms of “training.”

Elephantenfüsse mit Kettenn

Their complex emotional states and multifaceted relationships are left in tatters.

Using these majestic, endangered animals in silly spectacles is shameful. Nepal should be focused on protecting them in their natural habitats, not exploiting them for human amusement.

elephant-festival

Last year, more than a dozen companies dropped their support of the King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament in Thailand after a PETA Asia eyewitness exposé revealed abuse similar to that documented in Nepal, and the tournament’s organizers ceased their operations in Thailand—making the Chitwan Elephant Festival the only event in the world in which elephants are shamefully abused for and forced to “play” polo.

And for good reason—others have recognized the cruelty inherent in making elephants perform and have stopped abusing animals.

The Chitwan Elephant Festival also hurts Nepal’s tourism industry.

Please fill out the form below to tell the Nepal Tourism Board that it’s in its best interest to cancel these cruel “games.”

And I mean…Those who are too lazy or too stupid to play football themselves choose the enslaved animals as substitutes, who definitely have more intelligence than all these primitive offenders.

So that every brain-sick tourist in his country can proud the experienced hero, elephants have to spend their lives in torture, slavery and daily humiliations.
Maybe our corona brings some good side effects in this regard.

Most will not travel anytime soon, nature and animals are recovering, and fear spoils any desire for exotic fun!

China: In China, anything with four legs but a table, and anything with two legs and not a person — we’ll eat it. Too Many People ?

Listen, in China, anything with four legs but a table, and anything with two legs and not a person — we’ll eat it.”

You can usually smell the markets before you see them.

Especially if you’re downwind.

It’s a sickly, almost sweet and nauseating smell of death. Once inside, the fetid stench — made worse by blistering temperatures and zero refrigeration — is overwhelming, and it is places like this where the deadly coronavirus originated.

In stall after stall, a mix of live and dead animals, which run the gamut from the known (pig, ox, duck, chicken) to the rare or unknown due to the condition of the carcass — stare back at you. In the wet areas of the market — usually reserved for fish and sea creatures and where the ground is slick with water and often blood — the stink is worse.

The animals that have not yet been dispatched by the butcher’s knife make desperate bids to escape by climbing on top of each other and flopping or jumping out of their containers (to no avail). At least in the wet areas, the animals don’t make a sound. The screams from mammals and fowl are unbearable and heartbreaking.

These unregulated markets must stop.

Not only are they wiping out precious wildlife, they are the root of most modern epidemics and outbreaks. They literally threaten all life on the planet.

The Chinese wildlife trade is mired in long-held beliefs about the benefits of eating exotic and often endangered animals for good health. But the reality stands in stark contrast. The markets in China where live wild animals, including endangered species like pangolins, are bought and sold have often acted as petri dishes for the germination and spread of deadly diseases like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and the deadly bird flu, with each outbreak claiming hundreds of human victims.

Now, once again, China’s wildlife markets have spawned another global public health crisis with the deadly coronavirus, a pneumonia-like illness that has so far claimed nearly 80 human lives and sickened at least 2,700 more, providing more evidence than ever why the country needs to shut down its wildlife markets for good.

Chinese society is boiling with anger at wildlife policy failures,” says Humane Society International’s China policy specialist, Peter Li.

Social media is full of posts condemning the refusal to shut down the wildlife markets. This is the worst Chinese New Year in China’s recent history.”

The last time China made an effort to close down its wildlife markets was after the SARS outbreak some 17 years ago in 2003, although that effort ceased about six months later.

Why wild animals are a key ingredient in China’s coronavirus outbreak

Before its closure, exotic animals — from snakes to civet cats — were available at a wet market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan that is ground zero of a new virus killing people with pneumonia-like symptoms and infecting growing numbers of others around the world.

China eases unlawful restrictions on hog production

http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2020-03/10/c_138863746.htm

BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities have stepped up support for hog production, reducing the number of zones where pig breeding is forbidden by unlawful measures, an official said Tuesday.

The country’s environmental and agricultural regulators have jointly urged local authorities to standardize the zoning and management of pig breeding. To date, the ban on 14,000 areas has been lifted, said Liu Zhiquan, an official with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

The supply of pork is closely related to people’s food consumption. Actions of restricting hog breeding beyond the provisions of laws and regulations in the name of environmental protection should be firmly opposed, Liu said at a press conference.

A circular was jointly released by the environmental and agricultural regulators in November 2019, simplifying procedures of environmental impact assessment for large-scale pig husbandry projects.

The country will further accelerate environmental impact assessments for pig breeding companies while implementing supervision to ensure enterprises take necessary measures for environmental protection.

WAV Comment – sure they will, we doont think !!!

China has taken a string of measures to enhance hog production and will work to return hog production capacity to normal levels by the end of 2020.

Corona virus: the ideal scapegoat.

corona karikaturn

Those who are exposed to COVID-19 propaganda for several hours a day will hardly be able to grasp a clear thought out of sheer panic.

This is certainly also the goal of strictly coordinated propaganda, which we particularly appreciate and inevitably finance, especially through the public media.
Their job is to subtly deprive people of the opportunity to think independently.
They themselves call it high-level information and education.

Insofar as, contrary to expectations or due to technical breakdowns, there are moments of light within this panic sprinkling, the normally gifted person begins to ask questions internally.
Questions that it is better not to open up and therefore mostly to keep quiet and secret. This is the only way to be reasonably safe from the destructive criticism that everyone is exposed as soon as he issues questions or facts that contradict the official line.

The economic side of the pandemic

Let us turn to the economic side of this crisis, following the rampant pandemic.
An officially prescribed crisis, which becomes more significant and more serious with every compulsory and restrictive measure called.
It was not for nothing that unlimited financial resources were provided for every cough, well before panic mode was raised to today’s level.
This can be seen as a signal that the government, either way, is expecting a huge crash.
Rightly so, because the financial and economic system has been overdue in this regard for years.

Corona is just the gentle and innocuous door opener, the hand puppet or Trojan to play a real drama for people.
All with the goal of reaching the next level on the way to total control of the crowds.

The latter is pretty much the hardest attack on the remaining Human liberties.
We are experiencing, so to speak, the final dispute. It is about whether people will be able to take control of their own destiny, freely and individually, in the future.
Or whether, as in the past few decades, people remain only the productive livestock of an elite class.
In this context, it can be said that it is a battle against globalization that is pursuing exactly this agenda of human livestock.
The EU is only a small size and unfortunately nothing else than “not pro person” … only “pro … fit”

Lock-down brings heavy losses

The Europe-wide failure of the entire economy will immediately lead to the death of all affected economies. We could say they die on Corona themselves. This virus is simply the ideal scapegoat.
Of course, this is not entirely true, as these economies are now dying because of the planned measures to combat a small virus, the importance of which is more than controversial.
But the propaganda already helps the little creature to the power it has now been given. Nothing will change the result. Economies will die along with COVID-19, the weakest first.

It would be better, in general, to start thinking about a new system in terms of education, economy and the state. A more stable system that does not have to be driven against the wall every three generations like now.

In this regard, at least the previously mentioned small elite would like to read later  in the history books that not their greed destroyed everything, but a small, cute virus called COVID-19.

And I mean...The whole world smells of disinfectants, in the subway, in the supermarket, in sports studios, in the café..

No cinemas, no soccer, no museums, no theater, no libraries, no visitors from relatives in the hospital, no parties, even no church …

Everywhere empty shelves, noodles are gone, rice is gone, cans are gone, toilet paper is gone, even the vegan range that no one wanted before is gone.

The empty shelves in the supermarket are reminiscent of the old days in the former GDR, when people abused the “totalitarian” system of socialism at the time and only dreamed of fleeing to the West in order to finally buy everything their hearts could desire.
And now fucking capitalism is failing worse than its enemies at the time.

After the swine and bird flu failed so miserably, the right one finally seems to have been found.
There will soon be a global slaughterhouse for human animals that will cut all savings in half.
We have the explanation for this: it was the evil virus!

One thing is hopeful and makes the situation bearable: the corona is an animal-friendly virus!

The Karmic Interconnections Of Humans and Animals. By Gene Baur.

Gestation_crate_(Farm_Sanctuary)

WAV Comment – with thanks to Stacy at ‘Our Compass’ for sending over.

We fully support what Gene says in the article; for far too long the animals have suffered in silence. Now humankind is affected in its financial pocket; the stock exchanges of the world, its travel restrictions; let alone the massive costs (ie our taxes) by governments attempting to enforce, maybe just for once, governments will listen and more importantly; realise where they are going wrong, and if they continue with current practices; will continue to go wrong for all mankind in the future.

Governments and their advisors think they know best; but usually it is the folk in ‘the trench’ who know reality. Seems like Gene has been in the trench for a while.

Well done Gene.

The COVID-19 coronavirus has killed thousands of people around the world, including 14 in the U.S., and its origin in animals and global spread should remind us how inextricably linked we are with other life on Earth. We share the same planet and breathe the same air, and we also exchange microbes including germs. Now, with our burgeoning human population and global economy, we face new threats from a wider distribution of diseases like this new strain of coronavirus.

For some background, the World Health Organization (WHO) explains: “Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV)… Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people.” COVID-19 was thought to have come from a live animal market where animals are often sold as food in Wuhan, China in December 2019, and so far it has been confirmed in nearly 80 countries and declared a “public health emergency of international concern” by the World Health Organization.

No one yet knows how many people will be infected or die from COVID-19, but it has characteristics similar to the bird flu, known as the “Spanish Flu,” which killed millions during World War One.

SARS, MERS, and COVID-19 are contagious diseases that jump from animals to humans, and more needs to be done to curtail these, including banning live animal markets. But, other potentially fatal zoonoses also warrant attention.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns: “…3 out of every 4 new or emerging infectious diseases in people come from animals.” These include viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites, and they infect millions of U.S. citizens every year.

In the U.S., almost ten billion animals are exploited and slaughtered every year. Most live short miserable lives in overcrowded factory farms, which are a breeding ground for disease, including emerging pathogens and virulent strains of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

In addition to foodborne illness and environmental pollution, animal agriculture can also incite global pandemics like H1N1, which was initially called “swine flu” because it was linked to a similar disease in pigs, but its connection to animal agriculture has since been largely obscured.

The H1N1 pandemic killed hundreds of thousands of people around the globe, including over ten thousand in the U.S., according to CDC: “From April 12, 2009, to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus… Additionally, CDC estimated that 151,700-575,400 people worldwide died from (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first year the virus circulated.”

While animal-borne illnesses continue to threaten human health, agribusiness has a vested interest in preventing consumers from thinking about it — under the oversight of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Since the 1980s, Farm Sanctuary has investigated farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses and worked to prevent irresponsible agricultural practices, such as the transport and slaughter of downed animals, animals too sick even to stand. T

he USDA defended the practice for decades, dismissing our concerns about diseased animals entering the food supply. Finally, after confirming mad cow disease in the U.S., the agency agreed that downed cows should not be slaughtered for human consumption. Unfortunately, however, other diseased and debilitated animals are still entering the U.S. food supply, including half a million downed pigs every year.

We continue challenging this inhumane and risky practice, and we are also challenging a new USDA policy to remove limits on slaughterhouse line speeds, and give the industry more authority to police itself. The USDA and other government officials need to protect the public, instead of serving the short-sighted financial interests of agribusiness.

Government programs should encourage diverse organic farms that build soil and create ecological sustainability and resilience, instead of chemically dependent mono-crops and factory farm confinement, which denude and despoil the earth.

We should invest in plant-based agriculture and grow crops to feed people instead of farm animals, which would feed more people with less land and fewer resources, allowing rainforests and other vital ecosystems to be preserved, along with biodiversity and the earth’s natural capacity for regulating greenhouse gasses and other environmental threats. We all benefit when our common home, the earth, is healthier.

Transitioning agriculture and government policies will take time, but each of us can make daily choices to help the planet and ourselves. Eating nutritious, plant-based foods can help fortify our immune systems, thereby enhancing our ability to withstand various threats, including from contagious viruses like COVID-19.

Our disrespectful treatment of other animals and the earth has consequences, and when they are harmed, ultimately, so are we. All life on Earth is connected, and it’s in our interest to act accordingly.

WAV Comment – an interesting article which really should be read in full.

You can do that via this link:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8099995/Chinese-company-claims-eating-dogs-way-cultural-confidence.html

Quote from Daily Mail:

“Chinese firm encourages people to EAT DOGS to show ‘cultural confidence’ as it boycotts drafted law that bars pet meat from the dinner plate in the wake of coronavirus outbreak

  • The claim was made by a firm specialising in making dog meat dishes in China
  • It alleged that lawmakers in Shenzhen drafted the proposal to appease the West
  • It blasted the proposal as a ‘denial to thousands of years of Chinese food culture’
  • Animal activists have urged China to forbid the consumption of dogs for years
  • The drafted law is currently under assessment by the government of Shenzhen

A company specialising in making dog meat dishes has claimed that eating dogs is a way for Chinese people to show their ‘cultural confidence’.

Fankuai Dog Meat from eastern China made the statement in a blog post while protesting against a proposed law which bans people from consuming pets in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

The brand claims that lawmakers in the city of Shenzhen drafted the proposal to appease the West”.

Yulin – the 2020 Lychee and Dog Meat Festival is scheduled to begin on Sunday 21 June and ends on Tuesday 30 June.

In 2019 over 1.5 million people signed a petition calling for China to ban the Yulin dog meat ‘festival’. It was delivered to the Chinese Embassy in London by Dame Judi Dench.

Read our link here from that time:

https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2019/06/21/judi-dench-and-others-speak-out-against-chinas-yulin-dog-meat-festival-a-1-5-million-signature-petition-submitted-to-chinese-embassy-in-london-this-week/

Guess what; the Chinese authorities ignored the petition; as they have ignored everything about improving the situation for animals in China to date.

Well now the ignorance of the Chinese government is biting back at them big time.

Their actions have spread virus across the world, and suddenly now, much too late in the midst of the crisis; they turn turtle and attempt to introduce legislation involving animals.

Take this simple fact on board – China – Too Little, Too Late. Now the price of your ignorance is being paid.

Look at the following pictures – a bloke smokes a cigarette whilst preparing ‘food’ (dog) for others to eat !!

If the Chinese government have any sense; then can we expect the Yulin Dog Meat ‘festival’ to be banned from now on – remember all the scenes ?; we do; pitiful animals being kept in the most horrendous conditions.

Those same animals then being slaughtered in barbaric ways; blowtorch etc; by street vendors standing there proudly smoking old fags in utterly un hygienic conditions – just like the wet markets we have seen photos of since the spread of Coronavirus.

Do these people ever make any links ? – you have to ask.

Other Yulin links from our site – you only have to lok at the photographs and the conditions in which animals are kept, slaughtered, and consumed to see that this place is a hotbed for the spread of virus and disease.:
