Horse Riding: don’t use your friends

Most people who go horse riding do it because they love horses. They enjoy the joint movement, make sure that the animals do not injure themselves as much as possible, and take good care of them by feeding them and keeping them and their stables clean.

Nevertheless, the question often arises at some point: Can riding be compatible with love for animals at all?

pferd pg

In a perfect world, horses would live in freedom and no one would ask them anything. Horses are herd animals that live together in large groups in the wild, graze in meadows, travel long distances, and woo each other.

pferd mit fole g

They have their very own needs and interests, and none of them is carrying someone around on their back. This decision is made by people alone.

If you take riding lessons or buy a horse, you unfortunately always support that money is earned with animals that have no say. Even if a horse is perhaps happy about a snack or a gentle brushing: it has not chosen this life.

If we want to stop seeing animals as inferior and subordinate beings, we should question it.

https://www.petazwei.de/ist-reiten-okay

And I mean…The deep affection of many riders for their horses is a wonderful feeling, they would never want to harm their horse. Riding and cruelty to animals? Unimaginable for some riders!!! Quite a few hobby riders eat vegetarian or vegan and are involved in animal protection

Unfortunately, far too often it is not possible to really do justice to a riding horse.

Humans tend to give animals human characteristics. They think that with love and gentleness, the horse voluntarily agrees to ride.

Das-Wohl-der-Pferde-pg

But a stable, small pasture and a lot of love cannot really replace a horse’s freedom – the herds and the expanse that meet its needs

Unfortunately what most hobby riders do not know is that riding horses often leads to illnesses.
Not only a rider who is too heavy but also the stance inboxes and the lack of freedom of movement (fenced pasture, without herd structure) damage the horse in the long term.

Musculoskeletal disorders and feeding-related diseases (e.g. laminitis) can often be directly or indirectly attributed to the use of the horse.

pferde im Schlachthofjpg

And thus even the closest relationships between man and horse end at the slaughterhouse when the horse is no longer suitable for riding. It loses the purpose that was intended for it.

A visit to the horse slaughter shows how many horses die because their skeleton is bent and their hooves are inflamed and their nature is atrophied.

Because they were loved as a “mount” and later simply disposed of.

The love for horses can also be experienced without using the animals – for example in one of the countless sanctuaries for old horses.

There you can also volunteer if you really love horses.

France: The hidden side of Roquefort

Roquefort is produced from sheep’s milk. To produce this milk, the sheep must give birth to one or two young each year. Thus, more than 500,000 lambs are born each year for the production of Roquefort. In excess, three-quarters of them are sent to intensive farms where they will be fattened for meat. As is the case in this Aveyron farm, SARL Grimal, one of the largest farms in France.

Flag of France, hand drawn watercolor illustration

The lambs are crammed into pens without access to the outside. Some are dying slowly in the farm and die before reaching 4 months when they are sent to the slaughterhouse.

Mortalité

Some of these lambs were killed at the Arcadie Sud-Ouest slaughterhouse near Rodez. Some receive electric shocks that are thought to numb them and cause a heart attack.

Here, the process is not controlled by the employees, so that animals receive the shock without being dizzy. Others are slaughtered alive. Lambs see each other die.

Many are still hanging on the slaughter line.

roquefort 6

These serious offenses had already been noted in a veterinary report in 2016. Four years later, nothing has changed. Let us demand the closure of this slaughterhouse.

An overwhelming 2016 veterinary report

Already in 2016, the practices of killing animals at the South West Arcadia slaughterhouse were disastrous. A detailed veterinary inspection had confirmed several “major non-conformities”.

In particular, the report reads that animals see those who precede them die because of a “lack of masking curtain at the killing post”, and that they are “systematically hoisted conscious”.

The slaughterhouse is given the worst assessment: “major non-compliance” for the killing of animals!

No protection for 3/4 of the “Roquefort” lambs

MORRISONS EXPOSED

Disturbing footage from our latest undercover investigation into two British pig farms exposes shocking conditions at farms supplying Morrisons. Workers were filmed brutally killing young pigs, mutilating others and leaving dead animals out in the open.

  • Calvesley Farm is a pig breeding facility operated by Winterbrook Farm Partners. Up to 400 poor piglets are born in this hellhole each week.
  • Whiteshoot Farm is a rearing and fattening facility also operated by Winterbrook Farm Partners, housing more than 8,000 pigs.

The investigations took place over the course of three weeks, using hidden cameras to reveal atrocities both inside and outside the farms’ sheds.

and see the video footage.

Shocking mutilations

Each newborn piglet is pulled from the farrowing crate and ruthlessly thrown into a metal trough. Investigators captured workers using a barbaric hot knife to slice the piglets’ tails back to a bleeding stump and a pair of pliers to clip away their teeth – all without pain relief.

These cruel acts are supposed to prevent tail biting, a behaviour that manifests from distress and lack of stimulation.

One of the most distressing scenes captured by Viva! Campaigns shows a farm worker ‘knocking’ young piglets – killing them by slamming their tiny heads onto the concrete floor.

It’s a brutally cruel act, which is followed by the worker dumping the bodies aside – presumably because these animals were considered too small to be profitable.

Incinerating public health

As if all this wasn’t bad enough, our team also stumbled upon the farm’s incinerator in an open-ended shed. Most days there were piles of dead piglets – some in empty feed sacks, others dumped on the ashes from previous burns – discarded like rubbish. The door had been left wide open. Next to the shed there were more dead piglets awaiting their turn to burn, writhing in maggots.

These practices are in complete violation of the government’s guidance on how to handle ‘fallen stock’, which states: ‘While waiting for your fallen stock to be collected, you must ensure that animals and birds cannot access the carcase.’

Your funds not only provide us with vital equipment to carry out investigations but also the budgets to launch major publicity stunts and campaigns:

  • £10 will buy our investigators additional 32GB SD cards
  • £20 will buy our investigators much needed biosecurity and PPE
  • £50 will buy our investigators additional power packs for hidden cameras
  • £60+ will buy our investigators additional cameras, which often need replacement due to stress of use or damage

As part of our overarching End Factory Farming campaign our major action plan includes:

  • An innovative YouTube ad campaign, featuring a range of footage from our undercover investigations
  • Greater social media promotion with targeted messaging on how and why to go vegan
  • The launch of our brand-new seven-day vegan initiative, V7
  • And a range of billboards throughout the country, as and when lockdown allows for maximum impact

We know times are tough and as ever we appreciate every contribution made, no matter the size. Mark, together we will end factory farming, before it ends us!

The Murder of Regan Russell

❤️ An article by Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd

Three days ago, Regan Russell (65) was murdered by a cold-blooded monster devoid of empathy and compassion.

Regan_Russell_Worst_abuse_imaginable
She was deliberately run down by a truck driver. His cargo was pigs stuffed into the truck in over-heated conditions and extremely stressed from thirst.

For a few moments, a compassionate woman named Regan Russell attempted to alleviate both thirst and stress by bringing water to the captives through the narrow slits in the side of the truck.
Her kindness was rewarded with a death sentence callously delivered by the driver of the truck.
Some people have said that the driver was just doing his job.

I don’t buy it.

He was aware of the protests. He could have given a warning, he could have stopped to allow the protesters to give water to the pigs. He could have driven cautiously slow. Instead, he slowed down and suddenly sped up. The fact is that he was negligent.

The fact is that a woman is dead and he killed her and he should be charged with vehicular homicide.

Switzerland: Tilda escapes death in the slaughterhouse

These are incredible scenes that passersby happened to document in front of a Swiss slaughterhouse last Friday.
When unloading a slaughter transporter, a cattle panicked in such a way that it tried to save its life by leaping over the gang of an animal transporter.

kuh aus dem Schlachthof gerettetTilda-the freedom fighter, trying to escape

Animal transport is pure stress for cattle, but also pigs, horses, sheep, and other animals for slaughter.
Blood, excrement, the desperate screams of their peers, the unfamiliar surroundings put the animals in mortal fear.
The reactions to it are different: some literally roar their fear out of the lungs, others are introverted and try to hide.
A fighter one tried to escape on Friday.

The horrified passers-by were able to capture the death-defying jump from a height of several meters and the subsequent escape across the grounds in photographs and films.
In horror, they contacted the Papillon sanctuary, described what had happened, and asked for advice.
We from Papillon Sanctuary immediately asked for a friend’s grace yard for cows, the Villa Kuhnterbunt by Bea Gutzwiller, and decided to rescue the refugee freedom fighter together.

The on-site passers-by got in touch with the slaughterhouse staff and the slaughterhouse boss and the animal dealer agreed to the life-saving takeover by animal protection.
To our astonishment, the head of the slaughterhouse and his coworkers were happy, even asked where she was going and a randomly present craftsman benevolently gave the passer-by a 20-franc note as a reward for the rescue (!!!)

kuh aus dem Schlachthof gerettet 2_nTilda-in security

The subsequent transport to a veterinary clinic for farm animals showed how panicked the rescued cow was after her rescue.
However, the local veterinarians managed to have the cow undergo a health check, take care of the horn injured in the fall, take blood, control mucous membranes, and claws.

After consultation with the previous owner, it became known that the animal was born in February last year and has had to live in constant tether since then.

The animal was christened Tilda in the veterinary clinic – Tilda means fighter.

After the stay in the animal hospital, the animal will move to the cow sanctuary Villa Kuhnterbunt this week and move into the herd full of rescued oxen and cows.
Henceforth it will be protected by Villa Kuhnterbunt and the Papillon sanctuary.
We are looking for sponsors for the further care of Tilda.

Tilda meets her new family (video)

And I mean…Tilda will definitely get a sponsor. Many animals in many other countries have that.

What is difficult to find in many other countries is the courage and the intelligent decision like that of the Swiss witnesses to inform a sanctuary and not the hunter to shoot the animal directly “for safety reasons”!
That would have been the case in Germany !!

Many factors play a role in how develops a society’s behavior towards animals.
It is the education from home, from school, the state animal welfare, and last but not least the financial situation of a country that decides for a good or bad coexistence between humans and animals.

We thank all rescuers of Tilda and we wish her a good and long life in her new home

My best regards to all, Venus

Wales – Chicken Processing Facility –  158 staff members test positive

Factory has contracts with thousands of UK supermarkets

More than 150 employees at a chicken plant in Anglesey, north Wales, have tested positive for coronavirus.

The 2 Sisters poultry processing factory, which has contracts with thousands of UK supermarkets, announced on Thursday that it would be temporarily suspending production at its Llangefni site for two weeks with immediate effect.

It said the decision was made following guidance from Public Health Wales (PHW), Anglesey Council, the Health & Safety Executive, FSA and the Unite union: “The health, safety and well-being of our colleagues is ultimately the thing that matters most at our business.”

All 560 staff members were asked to self-isolate for 14 days. On Saturday the food manufacturing company confirmed that 350 people had been tested, and 75 cases were confirmed positive.

A further 83 positive cases were identified over the 24 hours to 3pm on Sunday, bringing the total number of infections to 158.

Testing sites were set up at Llangefni and Holyhead, and at an existing facility in Bangor, following the outbreak.

PHW said the number of cases “is expected to increase as we continue to process samples taken from employees”.

Dr Christopher Johnson, consultant in health protection for PHW, said: “Since we commenced targeted testing last Thursday, over 400 members of staff have provided samples so far.

“Testing of employees continues, and it is likely that some additional cases will be identified in the coming days.”

He also commended the testing system, saying it was “working as it should be”, and reminded the public that they too have a “vital role” to play in “preventing the spread of coronavirus”.

2 Sisters is one of the largest food producers in the UK and processes about a third of all the poultry products eaten each day from its sites across Britain.

In its statement, the company concluded: “We will not tolerate any unnecessary risks – however small – for our existing loyal workforce at the facility.”

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-meat-factory-outbreak-why-how-yorkshire-germany-a9575706.html

Outbreaks of coronavirus have been reported at meat factories around the world, from Germany to the US, with a plant in West Yorkshire becoming the latest epicentre.

Earlier this week, officials in a west German district said the number of new infections linked to a large meatpacking plant had risen to 657 – a higher figure than many recent daily increases for the entire country.

Two meat factories in Wales also reported outbreaks this week.

And meat factories in the US have also shut over Covid-19 and seen hundreds of workers fall ill with the virus.

Staff working in close proximity to each other, poor employment contracts and cold temperatures are some of the theories behind the outbreaks, but industry representatives in the UK insist the reason for them is a “mystery”.

“There is no proof in science that a meat factory is any different to a chilled food factory doing other work,” David Lindars from the British Meat Processors Association (BMPA) told The Independent.

“Nothing has been said about our working environment in particular that causes any of these outbreaks that we know of from a science point of view. It is a mystery as to why.”

Mr Lindars, the trade body’s technical operations director, added: “You must not forget we never stopped as an industry. The car industry stopped and lots of other industries stopped.

“We have kept going and, to date, we have been pretty good at feeding the nation and ensuring red meat is on the shelves to retailers without mass closures that has happened in other countries.”

Major processing plants in the US shut their doors during the pandemic, sparking fears of meat shortages, after hundreds of workers at some plants tested positive.

But the Unite union says it has repeatedly warned that outbreaks at meat factories in the UK were likely.

Loads of news and actions to take – please support.

Despite the fact that dog and cat meat consumption is an everyday occurrence and is being carried out all over South Korea, it is NOT LEGAL in that country.

Their Government does nothing to stop this illegal practice and they seem happy to ignore it; many Korean citizens are just as apathetic and must also be held accountable.
This is the 21st Century, and it is high time that all South Koreans, leaders and general public alike, stand up and take responsibility to enforce their own country’s laws. South Korea and South Koreans cannot continue to ignore these brutal and unethical trades, so let us campaign to urge each of South Korea’s cities to enforce their laws and to put an immediate end to these illegal dog and cat meat trades.

Below are the most populous cities in South Korea.
