Puppies are among the cutest beings on the planet. But caring for them when they are injured and ill is one of our greatest challenges.

We do absolute everything we can to protect and heal these little ones to get them back to their mothers as fast as possible.

Every puppy is given core vaccines including against distemper and parvo, puppies stay in unique groups to minimize the spread of illness, and those showing signs of viral diseases are immediately shifted to an isolation area.

With every treatment, everyone from nurse to caregiver lavishes an extra big dose of love.

Sprinkles loved her kisses, even after bite wounds almost ended her life.

A beautiful puppy only a few weeks old had been attacked by a wild animal. She had deep bite wounds at the top of her head and under her throat, which caused swelling and infection. Her tail wagged a little and she tried to greet her rescuers but she couldn’t even lift her head.

She was too little for such a horrible injury, and we knew if she didn’t respond to antibiotics, she wouldn’t stand a chance.

Gentle and fragile, we named this baby Sprinkles. She hovered on the brink of life and death for 8 days, but as soon as she started to perk up we knew she needed to be in the soft lap of her mother and siblings. And now, little Sprinkle is a downpour of love!

Rescue, treat, love. And more love. Please donate.

After spine trauma, therapy and love, Iris emerged into the most graceful dog.

The incredibly sweet nature of this little beauty shined through even when she was rigid with pain. She was unable to raise herself out of her sitting position after a spine injury caused by a road accident. It took weeks of medical care, rest and physiotherapy to heal. As gentle and perfect as a flower, we named her Iris.Watch this graceful blossom sway and wobble and, finally, walk on her own again!

Street animal rescue feels so good. Please donate.

Sponsor all-grown-up-now Merry!

So small, alone and almost faded away, we rescued beautiful Merry after someone abandoned her on the road. She must have walked until she was too weary to stand anymore and had collapsed.

Merry’s life is now filled with love. It took her 5 days before she could stand. She needed lots of physical contact which was lovingly provided by staff and volunteers.

And she blossomed into the (BIG!) beautiful girl she is today.

There are as many reasons to go vegan as there are animals on this planet! To get inspired by one more beautiful reason to go Veg, meet Merry!

Good news from France! 🐱🐶❤️

In the coronavirus pandemic, the demand for dogs and cats has risen sharply in many countries in Europe.
Numerous animals were acquired during the first lockdown. However, after the travel warning was lifted, owners left them at the animal shelter or simply put them on the street.

They often underestimate the responsibility and the time it takes to look after dogs, cats, birds, or other small animals.
They are overwhelmed.
Members of Parliament in France want to increase the barriers to getting a pet and make sure they get in the best possible hands.
A draft law on a new animal welfare law was passed in France this Wednesday. 🇫🇷

The changes at a glance:
– There will be higher penalties for mistreatment of animals, namely three years imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euros.

– When purchasing an animal, a certificate must be signed for information, in which duties as a holder, such as vaccinations, necessary doctor visits, and appropriate feeding are listed.

– Only professional breeders and animal shelters are allowed to sell online.

– Animals are no longer allowed to be sold in pet shops.

https://www.nw.de/umwelt/22944905_Frankreich-moechte-Online-Verkauf-von-Hunden-und-Katzen-verbieten.html

And I mean...If you want to have an animal roommate with you, you should ask yourself whether you are willing to give the animal enough time and care.
Whether you even have the resources for it.
And then, if you are sure, always contact the local animal shelter.

There you get the best advice and the employees are very concerned about the welfare of the animals.

Anyone who has ever taken in someone from the shelter knows:

Sometimes the best friends come from the shelter.

After our involvement; and the immense hard work of organisations such as KARA, it is very depressing to see that less than 1% of people have filled in the e ‘people petitions’ which we have supported.  These are official petitions to the government of South Korea.

It is simple and quick to undertake; and with enough support it can make all the difference in the future to the innocent dogs being held in the most barbaric conditions on dog meat farms.

Despite the fact that dog and cat meat consumption is an everyday occurrence and is being carried out all over South Korea, it is NOT LEGAL in that country. Their Government does nothing to stop this illegal practice and they seem happy to ignore it; many Korean citizens are just as apathetic and must also be held accountable.

This is the 21st Century, and it is high time that all South Koreans, leaders and general public alike, stand up and take responsibility to enforce their own country’s laws. South Korea and South Koreans cannot continue to ignore these brutal and unethical trades, so let us campaign to urge each of South Korea’s cities to enforce their laws and to put an immediate end to these illegal dog and cat meat trades.

The e-People petition is the South Korean government’s official petition site and your petition will receive a response from the Korean government. Anyone from all countries can file a petition using the e-People petition.  It’s quite simple to file e-People petitions, but you can find help on (1) how to file e-People petition and (2) how to check the status of your e-People petitions on our website.

USA: Michigan Teenager Wins $50,000 In Writing Competition and Donates It All to Cat Shelter Where She Volunteers !! – Fantastic !

WAV Comment – Double wow ! – is Sidney not a special little lady !

At 13 years of age, there could be so many other things that she could be putting her win into; mobile phones, clothes, shoes, etc, etc; but how amazing that she has given this wonderful sum of money to the local cast shelter at which she volunteers.

Congratulations on your win and what a fantastic win for the animals at Ferndale Cat Shelter,

We would suggest this little lady is gonna go a long way in the world of animal welfare; she has our full support. Watch the video via the link below.

Michigan Teen Wins $50,000 And Donates It To An Animal Shelter (wkfr.com)

This 13-year-old just changed 2021 for a small animal shelter in Ferndale, Michigan.

Meet Sidney Hertzberg.  She loves cats.  In fact, she volunteers at the Ferndale Cat Shelter.  She recently enter a Petco contest by writing an essay about her cat.  Her survey paid off to the tune of $50,000.  You can see the moment she finds out that she won in the video below from ABC 7 at about the :15 second mark.

Sidney told WXYZ,

I have an illness called POTS and so with some of the symptoms that come with the illness are dizziness, fatigue and muscle aches. My cat Mr. Mittens, I got him when he was 4 ounces and he was about a week old, so he was very, very small and he had to be bottle-fed. And I really thought I was going to help save his life, but I did not even know he would actually help save mine.

The 13-year-old then donated the entire $50,000 prize to the Ferndale Cat Shelter where she volunteers.  This story could end there and it would be incredible.  However, Sidney’s not finished.  Not even close.

She has also created a program called Sidney’s Seniors for Seniors.  The program not only places older cats with elderly humans but also pays for the cat’s food and medical bills.  If this what the next generation looks like.  We’re in great hands.

Great News – A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS: “PROTECTION AND CARE FOR OUR ANIMALS” THANKS TO OIPA SIERRA LEONE.

OIPA is an Italian animal welfare organisation. See link below.

It is always a pleasure when we have to announce a new OIPA delegation, especially when the love and commitment for animals comes from countries that, despite the heavy difficulties faced daily by the local population, are still willing to dedicate precious time to the care and protection of animals.

Our International Representative organized a 3 Days Volunteers Recruitment Training session from 22 to 24 of December 2020 to involve people and manage at the end to engage 8 enthusiastic volunteers. The first day of the training was focused on the theme: “The Rights and Protection of Animals “; the second day, held in Kenema city, concerned on “How to Advocate for Animals Protection and Rights” and the third one was based on the topic “The Importance of Animals in Society“.

After the three days of the Volunteer Recruitment session, the team was already on site carrying on a three days session to raise community awareness on animal protection and rights in five communities of Kenema city, one of these was Nyadiama community, covering several households.

The first reaction of dwellers was at first suspicious and hesitant but they gradually became assertive and interested in the awareness process. The topic discussed was “Stop the Cruelty against Animals and Care for them” aimed to educate over the proper treatments and care of animals.

During the awareness sessions, the entire team has been directly involved in rescue operations as many homeless and street animals were found roaming around the communities and some of them clearly in need of help.

A dog, but it was not the only one as the volunteers have met many others along the way, and a sheep has been found homeless looking for food in the spoiled wasted garbage.

The team rescued them and found a home where good-hearted people decided to foster and take care of these lonely animals and thankfully the same has happened for a cat and a dog both with disabilities that were rescued by volunteers finding finally a new home.

Moreover, some other projects of the delegation include:

  • creation of a professional system aimed at serving as advocacy and advisory body to local and state government in laws and policies regulation concerning the rights and protection of animals
  • a research for data collection and evaluation with analysis to develop contents to present to the state government as educational tools helping the authorities to advance effective laws and policies regulation in the best interest of Animals’ rights and protection, included wildlife
  • conduct a mass national operation which intends to foster homeless animals,  removing the most problematic and with health diseases from the streets, and create shelters to care for them

Challenges for OIPA Sierra Leone’s team are many and tough, but volunteers have a great desire to operate on behalf of animal care and protection.

OIPA SIERRA LEONE IS READY TO WRITE A NEW CHAPTER FOR ANIMALS,

but the team needs your help and support.

The Situation with Stray Dogs in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

WAV Comment –

We have asked for petition and have now produced a sample letter which you can see directly below.

Please go to the Facebook site at (11) Facebook for more; and in the comments there should be details of who you can send your letter to.

Here is suggested sample letter to copy and send.

SAMPLE LETTER:

I am a xxx citizen and very concerned regarding the situation of stray dog treatment in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

As I am aware, on the 30th of May 2018; Leyla Aliyeva announced that the shooting order of stray dogs had been stopped and will not ever be happening again.

The actions of this announcement from 2018 do not appear to have been kept. There is still (now, in 2021) an order to shoot stray dogs in many regions of Azerbaijan, including Baku, the capital.

There are many videos to prove that stray dogs are still being murdered despite the statement to the contrary made in May 2018.

As I currently understand, the Republic of Azerbaijan has signed the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals.  The signature was undertaken on 22nd of October 2003, and ratified on the 19th of October 2007.

Like other EU member states such as Romania; and EU Candidate nations such as Serbia; corruption is paramount in these nations and animal welfare comes way down the list.  Like many other nations that have strays, the execution forces, such as those at Toplan, are paid murderers.  Who is paying them to murder and where does this money come from ?

According to this, since 1st of May, 2008 the European Convention should be in force in Azerbaijan.  I also accept that EU words and conventions really mean very little; as the EU always passes responsibility for actions back to individual states.  But still, saying that, actions which continue by the Azerbaijan government and dog catchers / facilities therefore go against the existing European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals; and have done for several years.

Also; I must ask why does the ‘Toplan Center’ still violently capture and murder stray dogs ?   We also know that it murders vaccinated and neutered dogs, and also dogs which are not strays but which do have owners; why is this so ?

There are only a few dogs in the Toplan Center who are held alive just in case of an inspection. What has happened to all the others ? – we have proof of your actions and murders; do not dismiss it.

Now, in 2021, you should be promoting kindness, compassion and giving protection towards all animals.  Stray dogs are not wild, they are simply homeless.  You should be addressing this issue rather than adopting the one of killing; this brings shame on you currently.  This approach shows the world that Azerbaijan is still living in the past rather than the present.

I am also forwarding a copy of this (my) letter to the EU regardless to inform them of your current policy regarding strays and requesting they investigate further the funding for these mass dog murders.

Good Day!

I am concerned regarding the situation with stray dogs in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

As I am aware, on the 30th of May, 2018 Leyla Aliyeva has announced that the shooting order of stray dogs has been stopped and will not be happening ever again.

My question is why this promise has not been kept? There is an order to shoot stray dogs still in many regions of Azerbaijan including the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. Many videos prove that stray dogs still get murdered. Why did you not keep the promise to stop the mass murders of dogs?

As I am aware, the Republic of Azerbaijan has signed the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals on the 22nd of October 2003 and ratified it on the 19th of October 2007. According to it, since 1st of May, 2008 the Convention should be in force in Azerbaijan. Your actions go against the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals.

Next, why does Toplan Center still violently captures the stray dogs and murders them? Why does Toplan Center still murders the neutered and vaccinated dogs?

They also kill the dogs who are not stray and have owners.

There are only very few dogs in the Toplan Center who are kept in case of an inspection that might occur. What happens to the others?
Why do you not promote kindness towards the animals? Why do you not protect them?

Sincerely

You should love the strays from the street!

You should love the strays from the street! … because at some point in your life you too felt like a lonely stray!
Alone on a bench, in a schoolyard, at a party when someone you loved rejected you.

When a friend just forgot about your existence, with someone who didn’t like you, in a society that didn’t notice your needs, as if you were invisible.

You should love and take care of the street strays! Maybe because you’ve literally been stranded on the street yourself, or maybe because there wasn’t a home that you would call “home”.

You should feed the strays from the street! Perhaps because you’ve been hungry yourself because your food was burnt, the supermarket was closed, or because it was hunger in your heart that was gnawing and no one was feeding.

You should look at the strays in the eyes from the street and listen carefully to what they are telling you. They all have a hidden story to tell, just like you have a secret story that you would like to tell someone else.

You should apologize to the strays from the street for us humans because we are the reason for their desperate situation and for their terrible condition. Maybe you’ve stood with your back to the wall before, waiting for an apology that never came!

You should love the strays off the street for who they really are, not just for your ego and need to be loved back. They will always love you one way or another, just for who you are … so don’t worry

Somehow we’ve all felt like strays off the street at one point in our lives … full of fear, pain, and sometimes without hope!

You should love the strays from the street because the love you give them heals the stray in you!

We all want someone who loves us for who we are, who gives without demanding, and who never lets us down.

Be this SOMEONE … for you and for others!

(c) Martha Politis Athanassiou / Bettina Marie Schneider

From me to this beautiful article… They are known us by the southerners.
It is all these animals that sit very discreetly next to your table and watch you eat.
With hope, they’ll get a piece of your food.

For those who do not close their hearts and eyes, for compassionate people, this look is a knife stab.

If these systems have all means at their disposal to exploit the weak parts of this planet, be it, Africa or children in the Third world countries, then no one is surprised when animals experience the most brutal exploitation of this system.
The weaker the victim, the worse the exploitation.

On the other hand, all the revolutions and movements in human history have proven that no ruling class has given up its privileges on its own.
The abolition of slavery and the exploitation of people socially and economically was the result of years of struggle.
The liberation of the animals as slaves is the continuation of this struggle.

We need education, whoever fights for animal rights has to try to change this society, which has got used to violence and brutality in a certain way and takes both for granted, especially when it comes to animals.

It cannot be taken for granted that there are strays today.
It is not a given that there are animal barracks.
It is not a given that we cull millions of fur animals for a disaster of human origin.
It is not a given that millions of laboratory animals die for Hocus-pocus science

That’s why we will keep fighting.
Against the rationalization of a fascist ideology that wants to take the exploitation of animals for granted

My best regards to all, Venus

The Crew at LMT K14 KFOR of the Italian Army Show Their Compassion By Supporting the Local Work Associated With Sterilisation of Stray Dogs in Kosovo.

WAV Comment: we send our best thanks to all the crew at LMT K14 KFOR of the Italian Army, for their incredible local work and financial support of this project. The dogs are not wild; just homeless !

From OIPA; Italy:

KOSOVO, THE ITALIAN ARMY “DEPLOYED” TO HELP STRAYS IN DECANI AND JUNIK: DONATIONS FOR NEUTERING AND VACCINATIONS. OIPA INTERNATIONAL WILL SUPPORT THE PROJECT

A big thanks to the Italian Army personnel of the West Regional Command, KFOR, with headquarter in Belo Polje – Kosovo, that besides monitoring the socio-economic development of the Country and helping to preserve security and stability for the population, have not turned away taking to heart the serious problem of strays present locally.

The Kosovo Force (KFOR), currently under Italian command, is an international military force led by NATO and represented by 27 contributing Nations, responsible for keeping the peace according to the UN Resolution No.1244 in Kosovo, and guaranteeing with the international support the presence of a fully democratic system.

In August the team LMT K14 KFOR of the Italian Army, in view of a high number of dogs and cats observed in the area, started a constant an attentive monitoring of strays located in the municipalities of Decani and Junik, in the western part of the Country. They noted a lack of awareness among the population and the unavailability of funds and means by local authorities in order to implement attempts to solve the problem.

Italian soldiers, talking with both municipalities, has exposed the issue and the serious consequences that a bad management of the phenomenon, including the lack of neutering and spaying activities and the non-activation of vaccination programmes, can bring in terms of security, hygiene and public decency but mostly in terms of respect for animal rights, animal protection and safety.

Local administrations have been willing and opened to discuss and asked for support in the creation and drafting of a long-term project that can face and limit the phenomenon, in collaboration with local and international animal welfare associations, including OIPA International, local veterinary services and agricultural organizations.

While waiting to define a long-lasting plan, the Italian soldiers of the KFOR West Regional Command did not sit back but donated funds to a consortium of local veterinarians to encourage the sterilization and vaccination of strays in the two municipality.

This first project was entirely financed by the Italian Ministry of Defense and carried out by the 5th “Superga” Rocket Artillery Regiment of the Italian Army through CIMIC funds (Civil and Military Cooperation) and has already allowed the spay and vaccination of about 30 dogs.

A virtuous example of the Italian Army and a demonstration of great sensitivity, love and courage in defence and in aid of those who have no voice, of those who are the most vulnerable and of those that often remain invisible because they are “just animals”.

You can support the project and help the homeless dogs and cats of Kosovo to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Make a donation writing “OIPA for KOSOVO”.

India: Latest Amazing Healing Rescues From ‘Animal Aid Unlimited’. Please Donate if You Can.

Dear Mark,

Introducing our brand new Large Animal Ambulance equipped with a hydraulic lift!

We sometimes find that bandaging a wound is the easier part of treatment. Often, what’s most difficult is moving the injured angel from the street to our hospital, especially when they are a 400 pound bull with a fracture.

We’ve been so lucky that our staff have had the strength and ability to work together in lifting really heavy animals even without an automatic lift. But it is amazing to lighten all their loads and most of all it makes rescue safer and stress-free for all.

Happiest thank you to the wonderful donors who made this possible!

Watch what happened when Penelope’s fractured pelvis healed!

The blood on her face was what alarmed our rescue team. But that wasn’t this beautiful girl’s worst problem.

Hit by a passing vehicle, Penelopehad alsosustained a fracture to her pelvis. Her facial laceration, although it caused a permanent droop to her eye, healed within just a few weeks. But her pelvis injury required 6 weeks of bed rest in order to heal.

Restricting her movement was necessary for healing, but boy was she glad when she was able to run again for the first time.Watch thisgorgeous wobbly whirlwind take the world by storm!

Healing is beautiful. Please donate.

Jason’s fear melted when bandages eased his pain.

Jason’s wound was massive. All the skin of his front forelimb was pulled off when a vehicle tire caught the skin in its tread. His pain was hard to imagine, and we watched his face stilled with worry when we gently flushed his wound. But this little wonder-boy’s fear melted as soon as his wound was bandaged.

Rescuing him was so important. Because the world without Jason would be a little less beautiful.

For Someone “out there,” tomorrow will come because of you. Please donate

Cutest dog with no toes on one foot in India!

Delightful Jakeis a perfect family dog. He’sloving, playful, intelligent and friendly. A Labrador who was abandoned by his previous owners – possibly because of an old injury that has left him missing the toes on his hind leg. To his old owners he might have been less than perfect but we couldn’t disagree more!

Jake’s favourite thing to do is play – he carries his beloved bone toy over to every person who enters his area in the hope that they will engage in a game of tug-o-war, or even better, fetch! His damaged foot doesn’t slow him down at all. He’s a “people person” who also loves other dogs, and if you’re lucky enough to adopt him, your whole family will have an angel guarding your hearts for the rest of your lives.
