You should love the strays from the street!

You should love the strays from the street! … because at some point in your life you too felt like a lonely stray!
Alone on a bench, in a schoolyard, at a party when someone you loved rejected you.

When a friend just forgot about your existence, with someone who didn’t like you, in a society that didn’t notice your needs, as if you were invisible.

You should love and take care of the street strays! Maybe because you’ve literally been stranded on the street yourself, or maybe because there wasn’t a home that you would call “home”.

You should feed the strays from the street! Perhaps because you’ve been hungry yourself because your food was burnt, the supermarket was closed, or because it was hunger in your heart that was gnawing and no one was feeding.

You should look at the strays in the eyes from the street and listen carefully to what they are telling you. They all have a hidden story to tell, just like you have a secret story that you would like to tell someone else.

You should apologize to the strays from the street for us humans because we are the reason for their desperate situation and for their terrible condition. Maybe you’ve stood with your back to the wall before, waiting for an apology that never came!

You should love the strays off the street for who they really are, not just for your ego and need to be loved back. They will always love you one way or another, just for who you are … so don’t worry

Somehow we’ve all felt like strays off the street at one point in our lives … full of fear, pain, and sometimes without hope!

You should love the strays from the street because the love you give them heals the stray in you!

We all want someone who loves us for who we are, who gives without demanding, and who never lets us down.

Be this SOMEONE … for you and for others!

From me to this beautiful article… They are known us by the southerners.
It is all these animals that sit very discreetly next to your table and watch you eat.
With hope, they’ll get a piece of your food.

For those who do not close their hearts and eyes, for compassionate people, this look is a knife stab.

If these systems have all means at their disposal to exploit the weak parts of this planet, be it, Africa or children in the Third world countries, then no one is surprised when animals experience the most brutal exploitation of this system.
The weaker the victim, the worse the exploitation.

On the other hand, all the revolutions and movements in human history have proven that no ruling class has given up its privileges on its own.
The abolition of slavery and the exploitation of people socially and economically was the result of years of struggle.
The liberation of the animals as slaves is the continuation of this struggle.

We need education, whoever fights for animal rights has to try to change this society, which has got used to violence and brutality in a certain way and takes both for granted, especially when it comes to animals.

It cannot be taken for granted that there are strays today.
It is not a given that there are animal barracks.
It is not a given that we cull millions of fur animals for a disaster of human origin.
It is not a given that millions of laboratory animals die for Hocus-pocus science

That’s why we will keep fighting.
Against the rationalization of a fascist ideology that wants to take the exploitation of animals for granted

My best regards to all, Venus

The Crew at LMT K14 KFOR of the Italian Army Show Their Compassion By Supporting the Local Work Associated With Sterilisation of Stray Dogs in Kosovo.

WAV Comment: we send our best thanks to all the crew at LMT K14 KFOR of the Italian Army, for their incredible local work and financial support of this project. The dogs are not wild; just homeless !

From OIPA; Italy:

KOSOVO, THE ITALIAN ARMY “DEPLOYED” TO HELP STRAYS IN DECANI AND JUNIK: DONATIONS FOR NEUTERING AND VACCINATIONS. OIPA INTERNATIONAL WILL SUPPORT THE PROJECT

A big thanks to the Italian Army personnel of the West Regional Command, KFOR, with headquarter in Belo Polje – Kosovo, that besides monitoring the socio-economic development of the Country and helping to preserve security and stability for the population, have not turned away taking to heart the serious problem of strays present locally.

The Kosovo Force (KFOR), currently under Italian command, is an international military force led by NATO and represented by 27 contributing Nations, responsible for keeping the peace according to the UN Resolution No.1244 in Kosovo, and guaranteeing with the international support the presence of a fully democratic system.

In August the team LMT K14 KFOR of the Italian Army, in view of a high number of dogs and cats observed in the area, started a constant an attentive monitoring of strays located in the municipalities of Decani and Junik, in the western part of the Country. They noted a lack of awareness among the population and the unavailability of funds and means by local authorities in order to implement attempts to solve the problem.

Italian soldiers, talking with both municipalities, has exposed the issue and the serious consequences that a bad management of the phenomenon, including the lack of neutering and spaying activities and the non-activation of vaccination programmes, can bring in terms of security, hygiene and public decency but mostly in terms of respect for animal rights, animal protection and safety.

Local administrations have been willing and opened to discuss and asked for support in the creation and drafting of a long-term project that can face and limit the phenomenon, in collaboration with local and international animal welfare associations, including OIPA International, local veterinary services and agricultural organizations.

While waiting to define a long-lasting plan, the Italian soldiers of the KFOR West Regional Command did not sit back but donated funds to a consortium of local veterinarians to encourage the sterilization and vaccination of strays in the two municipality.

This first project was entirely financed by the Italian Ministry of Defense and carried out by the 5th “Superga” Rocket Artillery Regiment of the Italian Army through CIMIC funds (Civil and Military Cooperation) and has already allowed the spay and vaccination of about 30 dogs.

A virtuous example of the Italian Army and a demonstration of great sensitivity, love and courage in defence and in aid of those who have no voice, of those who are the most vulnerable and of those that often remain invisible because they are “just animals”.

You can support the project and help the homeless dogs and cats of Kosovo to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Make a donation writing “OIPA for KOSOVO”.

India: Latest Amazing Healing Rescues From ‘Animal Aid Unlimited’. Please Donate if You Can.

Dear Mark,

Introducing our brand new Large Animal Ambulance equipped with a hydraulic lift!

We sometimes find that bandaging a wound is the easier part of treatment. Often, what’s most difficult is moving the injured angel from the street to our hospital, especially when they are a 400 pound bull with a fracture.

We’ve been so lucky that our staff have had the strength and ability to work together in lifting really heavy animals even without an automatic lift. But it is amazing to lighten all their loads and most of all it makes rescue safer and stress-free for all.

Happiest thank you to the wonderful donors who made this possible!

Watch what happened when Penelope’s fractured pelvis healed!

The blood on her face was what alarmed our rescue team. But that wasn’t this beautiful girl’s worst problem.

Hit by a passing vehicle, Penelopehad alsosustained a fracture to her pelvis. Her facial laceration, although it caused a permanent droop to her eye, healed within just a few weeks. But her pelvis injury required 6 weeks of bed rest in order to heal.

Restricting her movement was necessary for healing, but boy was she glad when she was able to run again for the first time.Watch thisgorgeous wobbly whirlwind take the world by storm!

Healing is beautiful. Please donate.

Jason’s fear melted when bandages eased his pain.

Jason’s wound was massive. All the skin of his front forelimb was pulled off when a vehicle tire caught the skin in its tread. His pain was hard to imagine, and we watched his face stilled with worry when we gently flushed his wound. But this little wonder-boy’s fear melted as soon as his wound was bandaged.

Rescuing him was so important. Because the world without Jason would be a little less beautiful.

For Someone “out there,” tomorrow will come because of you. Please donate

Cutest dog with no toes on one foot in India!

(6) Watch | Facebook

Delightful Jakeis a perfect family dog. He’sloving, playful, intelligent and friendly. A Labrador who was abandoned by his previous owners – possibly because of an old injury that has left him missing the toes on his hind leg. To his old owners he might have been less than perfect but we couldn’t disagree more!

Jake’s favourite thing to do is play – he carries his beloved bone toy over to every person who enters his area in the hope that they will engage in a game of tug-o-war, or even better, fetch! His damaged foot doesn’t slow him down at all. He’s a “people person” who also loves other dogs, and if you’re lucky enough to adopt him, your whole family will have an angel guarding your hearts for the rest of your lives.

40 Tonnes of Food for Animals In Need. Please Support ‘Harmony Fund’.

WAV Comment:  We are really pleased to be able to give to Harmony Fund every month – and it is great to see the donations being put to such great use as shown in the video.  We would encourage everyone to give to HF if possible, to make the world for animals a better place – and to fill their bellies !

—————————————-

Those of you who have walked with us on this journey for the past 11 years know that Harmony Fund is a small charity doing BIG things. We throw our arms around underdog animal rescue squads all over the planet, creating circles of care to deliver food, shelter and veterinary care to thousands of animals each month. We recently brought food in for all the dogs, cats and horses at the beautiful Fundatia Sky rescue center in Romania…and it was breathtaking.

Two 18 wheeler trucks drove all the way from Germany to Romania, more than 1,000 miles, with 40 tons of kibble and canned food for hundreds of dogs and cats at Fundatia Sky shelter.  This food will also be shared with many homeless animals in the community.  Pet food is much less expensive in Germany and a higher quality and quanity of food can be bought here, making this the most efficient option.

But that’s not all. Another 40 tons of locally sourced hay was then brought in for the horses, and they started eating right off the lorries long before the men could unload the bales.

To animal industries, the ability to have babies is a valuable commodity. As a result, mothers of many species suffer physical and psychological stress that few of us can imagine.

Furtada Island, Brazil:”Island of the Cats” and misery

Furtada Island, off the coast of Brazil, is known as the “Island of the Cats,  is 20 minutes by motorboat from the city of Mangaratiba, at one extreme of Brazil’s Green Coast, a vast swath of mountainous tropical forest and sandy coves dotted with hundreds of islands.

On Brazil's tropical island of cats, virus led to starvation - The Mainichi

Hundreds of furry felines call the island home, but they’re not doing well. The island abounds with dangers, including poisonous pit vipers and lizards who attack and bite. On top of that, there are no natural sources of fresh water on the island, meaning that the animals there are often at risk of dehydration and kidney diseases.

Luckily, kind souls have spent years caring for these abandoned and feral animals. Fishermen throw fish scraps onto the island for the cats, while others dock on the land in order to set up bowls of packaged cat food and water.

On Brazil's tropical island of cats, virus led to starvation

But ever since the pandemic started raging through Brazil, confining humans to their mainland homes, things for the cats have gotten extremely dire.

All the locals knew the island just west of Rio de Janeiro was teeming with cats. They left food and even brought tourists.

Then the coronavirus pandemic hit, and human support dried up, resulting in a gruesome scene witnessed by fishermen: a group of cats devouring others’ corpses.

Now numbering around 250, the population started with just two cats around 20 years ago. Their humans used to live on the island but eventually left — and when they did, they also left their pets behind.

All on their own, the two animals spawned a whole generation of more cats, and in response, local people began using the island as a sort of ‘dump spot’ for any unwanted or stray felines.
For decades, former pet owners would boat up to the island, deposit their animals, and leave.

Brazilian lawmakers have passed legislation to increase the penalties for such animal cruelty, but the situation still continues. Even worse, the cat population also keeps growing through natural means — i.e. mating and producing little baby kittens.
But even though producing such offspring is natural, it’s still dangerous in an environment as treacherous as Furtado Island.

Volunteers are stepping up and trying to do everything they can to help these little furry creatures, searching for adoptive pet-families, but they can’t be expected to do everything on their own. They need help!

Urge the Brazilian government to help resolve this situation by spaying and neutering these wild, abandoned cats, and funding efforts to help the cats who already live on the island!

Authorities are looking into ways to stop people from abandoning animals on the island. It’s already a crime, but signs noting that have had little effect.

The volunteers transport cats ashore for therapy or surgery. They try to find someone to take down any animal, otherwise, they ship it back to the island again so they can take care of others who need medical help.

“It’s a Sisyphic endeavor”, said Joice Puchalski, the coordinator of the volunteer group.

“We actually want someone who can be part of the forces with us to try to cure this crime, which for us is cruelty,” she said.

Sign the petition to demand that the government fund efforts to feed and care for these animals, and set up catch-and-release spay and neuter programs!

https://www.thepetitionsite.com/de/382/279/443/hundreds-of-cats-have-been-left-to-starve-on-this-island/

And I mean…There is a Chinese proverb that says “solve the problem first, not the guilt question”.
Until the authorities find methods to get this misery under control, the animals are starving and dying.
Castrations are urgently needed, the number of animals must not increase.

And castration means catching animals, bringing animals to the doctor, being there.

Even adopting a cat would be helpful.
With almost 210 million inhabitants in Brasil, it should be feasible that a dozen people can help the activists, who are definitely at the limit of their strength.

Don’t look away, the animals only have us.

My best regards to all, Venus

Mali: UPDATE: 20 FORMER DOG MEAT TRADERS RECEIVE FARMING EQUIPMENT TO START NEW LIVES.

UPDATE: 20 Former Dog Meat Traders Receive Farming Equipment To Start New Lives

UPDATE: 20 FORMER DOG MEAT TRADERS RECEIVE FARMING EQUIPMENT TO START NEW LIVES

Posted by Colleen Jaskot

With funding from Lady Freethinker (LFT), local partner and nonprofit ARAF-Plateau Dogon gifted 20 former dog meat traders life-changing farming equipment to start their new livelihoods growing crops. These are the first of 37 more dog meat dealers transitioning to a cruelty-free means of sustenance.

This transformation was officially marked and celebrated in a ceremony chaired by the Sébougou mayor. The celebration included local village chiefs and other officials, according to ARAF-Plateau Dogon.

The switch will save thousands of lives, as former dog meat sellers in Mali give up the trade and turn to plant farming for their livelihoods. The former traders are now speaking out against selling and eating dogs, too.

“Lady Freethinker applauds the courage and determination of these former dog meat traders for turning to a more compassionate livelihood,” said LFT President Nina Jackel.

LFT funding is going toward a quarter of a hectare of land for each farmer. It also helps provide supplies to grow the crops, which will include tubers, vegetables, and small fruit trees with short cycles.

Most dog meat sellers are eager to give up the trade and only take part to feed their families. By growing crops, they’ll have a sustainable means of income. The initiative benefits the entire community, where some people live on less than $1 per day and urgently need resources.

This is part of a larger effort between LFT and ARAF-Plateau Dogon to help raise awareness of animal cruelty in the Ségou region of Mali, where more than 300 dogs are killed each day for meat.

Dogs are rounded up from villages — either taken off the street or sold by guardians who no longer want them — forced to walk for days without food or water, bludgeoned with sticks, and roasted over a fire.

In addition to encouraging dog meat traders to give up the trade, activists are traveling to villages to raise awareness of the campaign and encourage humane treatment of dogs.

The dog meat trade has grown in recent years there, with Mali’s growing population and lack of adequate food sources (partly due to climate change-related effects), according to ARAF-Plateau Dogon.

Lady Freethinker is proud to be a part of this initiative and take this big step toward ending the dog meat trade in Mali.

Serbia: We Will Be Asking You for Donations to Feed the Ex Dancing Bears Very Soon. Watch This Site For More.

– Before Rescue – Dancing Bears

Below – ‘Living’ Conditions.

Above – After the Rescues – Cutting the Chains for a new life of Freedom – see below.

From Mark; WAV;

This post is advanced information on an issue which we would like you to help with.

We are setting up a donation link with ARKA at the moment; and hope this will be ready in the next few days.  An amended version of this post will be produced when the donation link is ready.  In the meantime you can see what this involves;

Regards Mark and Venus (WAV founders).

Current Information:

We (WAV and SAV) are currently trying to help out some old friends back in Serbia who we have known (via SAV – https://serbiananimalsvoice.com/  ) for many years.  They are dedicated ‘animal people’ as you can see and run the association named ‘ARKA’ which is based in Novi Sad in Serbia.

ARKA are currently taking care of 50 stray dogs, 25 stray cats and 3 brown bears, which were rescued dancing bears; and which ARKA have a problem in being able to provide adequate food for them. They are not starving and going without, but more support is needed.

The dogs and cats are rescued from the streets and the bears were confiscated from illegal owners who often used them for dancing bear performances.  You can see the conditions in which they lived in a couple of the photographs below.

After official confiscation of the bears which was done in cooperation with the relevant authorities, and which took place in the year 1999, the court decided to hand over (at that time) 7 bears to our ARKA; to care for them as sanctuary. It was originally planned that bears should be with ARKA for only one or two years whilst another sanctuary was to be built in one of the national parks.

But then everything changed ! – the bombarding of Serbia and the Balkans wars arrived and the bears were never found their national park home.

Today, some 21 years later, 3 ex dancing bears named Marija, Uske and Bozana are still surviving and with ARKA (see the video above). For the last 10 years the relevant Serbian government Ministry has helped ARKA with about 20% of the total costs for their food. The bears have a good, healthy diet and are being fed with fruits, vegetables and meat; a much better diet than when they were dancing bears – see the photos of their situation then..

Now we need your help and support to aid ARKA in purchasing food for the dogs, cats and bears they have at their facility.

Here is the link to the ARKA donations:

CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS – maybe a few days more.

You can make donation via this link.

As we have said, long before WAV was started; we had some links for (Pavel and Branka) at ARKA and the bears on our ‘Serbian Animals Voice’ (SAV) site.  Here is one of the links from the past which show the bears many years ago:

As soon as we have a donation link established we will update and re issue this post with the new information.

So be ready for more in the near future.

Regards Mark and Venus.
