WAV Comment – 14/3/21 – There is something grossly wrong with some people on this planet. Unfortunately, I have to report to you that the ‘Elbeik’ livestock carrying vessel; loaded with 1,776 young bulls; is still in the Mediterranean sea after 3 months.
As we reported in other posts, the ‘Karim Allah’ which carried 895 young bulls, finally returned to Spain (Cartagena) recently and all the animals carried were slaughtered. This time it is the 1,776 young bulls that are allegedly infected with bluetongue disease. This has not been confirmed, as no medical examination has been made possible to date. While it can be assumed that the authorities have failed, the health of the animals is believed to be very poor due to the extreme exposure.
With what has / is going on with these 2 vessels; there is an urgent need for international political action. The two ships alone are representative of a sick system that must change; without even taking into account all the other animal carrying, sea going vessels that are crossing the globe at this present time.
The only way to prevent such catastrophes in the future is a clear ban on the transport of ALL live animals by ship; and we mean all; everywhere, period; not for a few months, but a permanent ban.

Three months have passed, during which the 1,776 young bulls on board the ‘Elbeik’ suffered not only from a shortage of water and food, but also from poor ventilation below deck. The vessel, which sails under the Togolese flag, disembarked in the Catalan city of Tarragona in mid-December last year (2020) and was on its way to Libya.
Upon arrival at the port of destination, the local authorities refused to unload the live cargo. The local authorities feared that animals infected with bluetongue were on board, as they came from a region in Spain where there had allegedly been an outbreak of this notifiable disease, Bluetongue, which is spread via insect bites, but is not transmissible to humans.
EU law states that live animals that have already been exported may no longer be re-imported into the EU. However, the fact that the animals have never set a hoof on soil in a third country is disregarded.
As we have always stated on this site, we have no time for the officials at the EU; in our opinion, they are useless at best. We now put our voice behind the massive international welfare group call for a complete and utter ban on the transport of animals by sea; and a ban on all long distance international transport for animals that are currently transported by road.
We will try to post further updates on this tragic situation when we have more;
Regards Mark.
Hundreds of animals die every year for weapons experiments and surgical training
During surgery training or experiments with poison gas, the Military “consumed” thousands of animals in recent years.
A request in the German parliament now revealed comprehensive figures for the first time!
When it comes to animal experiments, pharmaceutical research institutions are usually the focus of the public. However, it is less well known that the German military “consumes” hundreds of pigs, rats, and mice in experiments every year.
This is also due to the fact that such experiments are not fully disclosed in the Federal Government’s publications on animal experiments.
The answer from the Defense Ministry to a request from the parliamentary group “Die Linke” (The Left Party ) now creates clarity.
According to this, the Bundeswehr has used more than 7,500 animals in experiments over the past two decades.
Between 2012 and 2019, the group spent almost two million euros on animal experiments for training and for military technology and military medical research.
Around 85 percent of the animals were rats and mice. There were also 590 guinea pigs, but also 27 monkeys, 144 dogs, and more than 300 pigs, sheep, goats, and horses (!!!).
The overview of the uses shows: rodents were exposed to nerve agents such as VX, soman, or mustard gas, pigs were seriously injured to simulate nerve damage or anemia, rabbits were injured to cartilage, and the long-term effects of radiation were investigated in mice.

Bizarre polar bear hotel ’where guests can watch miserable beasts from their rooms is slammed by activists
A new hotel is set to open where guests can watch sad polar bears round-the-clock from the comfort of their rooms.
Billed as the first of its kind in the world, it officially opens its gates for visitors in Harbin Polar Land in the north-eastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang this week.
The £ 11m hotel is being advertised as providing the extraordinary experience of having polar bears as “neighbors 24 hours a day”.
It is equipped with a total of 33 pieces of tempered glass spread across all functional areas of the hotel.
The intensely lit cage consists of artificial stones and icicles and a white painted floor.
Harbin Polar Land is built so that all 33 window rooms face the enclosure.
The hotel management promises visitors on the website: “You can watch the polar bears from every room through the armored glass and ” sleep together ” with them at night.”
The project cost 100 million yuan, the equivalent of almost 15 million Swiss francs.
“The world’s first polar bear hotel”, as the operators proudly announce, was designed jointly by the famous Russian designer Kozylenko Natalia Yefremovna and the famous Japanese designer of the theme park Shuji Miyajima.
The polar bears can be seen through the glass from any room where visitors can observe the daily life of the animals.
But animal-rights activists have urged guests to stay away from the hotel.
PETA vice president Asia Jason Baker said: “PETA urges patrons to stay away from this hotel and any other establishment that profits from animals’ misery. “
Mr. Baker said the polar bears were active for up to 18 hours a day in nature, roaming home ranges that can span thousands of miles, where they enjoy real life.
Mr. Baker added: “Polar bears belong in the Arctic, not in zoos or glass boxes in aquariums – and certainly not in hotels. The greedy, exploitative aquarium industry, which is out of place in today’s increasingly aware world, is built on the suffering of intelligent, social beings who are denied everything that’s natural and important to them.”
“Gaps in the Chinese animal protection law allow companies to exploit animals without regard to their welfare,” a spokesman for the China Animal Protection Network told AFP.
And I mean… Seriously, there were two famous designers at work? The design couldn’t be more amateurish and unimaginative!
A kitschy aesthetic with science fiction format that is repulsive even without bears and would hardly attract any guest with a taste.
So … China has set up a new zoo.
Zoos in other countries are no better either, with the difference that the prisoners get fresh air and sun.
Polar bears belong in the Arctic and that is a fact that not only applies to China.
It is primitive and immoral to stare at captive animals as objects and anyone who keeps animals in tiny prisons for public entertainment must be classified as cruel animal abusers and should stop doing so.
We’re not just talking about the shameful Bear Hotel in China, which is a shame for this country.
We condemn the captivity of all other animals around the world that are abused and exploited in the cages, terrariums, and enclosures of zoos.
And will fight to have them abolished.
My best regards to all, Venus
