Faroe Islands: Negligent killing of 6 whales

walen Massaker Islandpg

Six whales were killed on August 17th on the island of Suduroy (Faroe Islands). The animals were stranded or in the shallow water on Sandvik Beach.

No attempts were made to save the animals or help them back into the open sea.

And I mean… When human animals are in need, failure to help is a criminal offense.
So this applies to our conspecifics.
It does not apply to the other animal species because they have no rights.

The whales are left in their tragic fate, and many of the native human animals have certainly received a few pieces of  ‘satisfaction’ with their murder and the reward of sliced meat.

Whale hunt in Faroe Islands turns sea red with blood - BBC News

This is the glaring example of human superiority.

The whales, like all animals in the world, from mussels to primates, have no rights, we have determined it, we human animals, those who think and act in a fascist way.

And that’s why so many natives of the Faroe Islands people, with the intellectual potential of a bookkeeper, try to justify this negligent murder with outrageous comments on the in.fo link above.

Some tradition should be banned: Pilot whales killing in Faroe Islands

PMU mares – dirty million dollar business

PMU Stutenjpg
In 600 PMU farms in the USA and Canada, around 75,000 mares live cooped up on factory farms.

The estrogen-rich urine of pregnant mares (PMU = Pregnant Mare Urine) is a lucrative source of income for the 600 PMU animal factories.

The 75,000 mares in these PMU animal factories spend the majority of their long pregnancies tied up in small boxes, connected 24 hours a day to a device that collects their urine. The mares can barely move, lie down comfortably, roll on their side or lay their head on the ground and rest.
Many mares have to be slaughtered because they become lame as a result of the lack of exercise.

urin Stuten pgSuffering for menopause

Pregnant mares have to stand in very narrow stall compartments of about one and a half meters wide and two meters high to collect their urine. Between the third and ninth month of pregnancy, the urine of mares contains a particularly high amount of estrogens.

A rubber collecting container is attached to the vulva of each mare and collects the urine. The urine flows through a hose into a plastic canister. The mares are tied up in the stable compartments and can hardly move.

The mares have to stand there for up to six months. The urine collection device causes inflammation, chafing and open injuries. Due to the permanent standing, the mares suffer from severe pain and even bone changes.

Thousands of horses around the world are tortured for the pharmaceutical industry.

Hormones, so-called “conjugated estrogens”, are extracted from their urine for the treatment of symptoms during and after the menopause.  Most of the approximately 75,000 foals that are born each year are taken from their mother gone after four months. The foals are sold at meat dealers or fattened on the farm and later brought to the slaughterhouse

My comment: A few years ago, most of the production farms were still in Canada and the United States. There are now only a few left there. A large part of the production was relocated to other countries with presumably even lower control frameworks, for example to China or India.

Hormone preparations made from mare urine such as “Premarin” have been on the market since 1942, although the equal effectiveness of herbal substances and various alternative treatment methods have been known for many years.

Since then, pharmaceutical companies have made billions in sales.
When it became known in 2002 that the drug “Premarin” significantly increased the risk of cancer, heart attacks and strokes in women, demand initially collapsed.
In 2012, it was also determined that taking PMU preparations can promote breast cancer.
The patent holder of this active ingredient, Pfizer, the world’s second largest pharmaceutical company, has responded very cleverly to public concerns and is back in the PMU business thanks to a new drug.

“Duavive” (in the USA “Duavee”) is the name of the “magic drug” that is supposed to prevent osteoporosis in addition to menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and sleep disorders.

In truth, however, it is just a PMU drug with the same composition as Premarin.
In Germany the preparation is sold under the name “Presomen”. Online providers even sell the “good old” Premarin without a prescription. The mare urine business is still worthwhile for the pharmaceutical industry.

But women who need something like this can do without PMU-containing medication, since PMU preparations are referred to as “conjugated oestrogens” on the package insert. When hormone treatment is essential, there are numerous preparations that can do without PMU.

Put your doctor under pressure to prescribe preparations that are not produced with the suffering of other mothers.

China / Argentina: China Working On Investing £2.7 Billion to Build 25 Factory Pig Farms in Argentina, Each of them Cramming 12,500 Sows Into Unhealthy, Overcrowded Sheds.

From ‘Farms Not Factories’ – England UK.

In China and Argentina, trade officials are planning to turn Argentina into a pork powerhouse to replace some of China’s 300 million pigs killed by, or euthanised to stamp out African Swine Fever (ASF). 55% of surveyed farmers in China have abandoned plans to ever raise pigs again.

The plan is to invest £2.7 billion to build 25 factory pig farms in Argentina, each of them cramming 12,500 sows into unhealthy, overcrowded and barren sheds, to supply China’s growing appetite for pork. This would practically double Argentina’s pig production from 8 to 15 million pigs per year requiring thousands of additional hectares of soy and maize for feeding, devastating ever more of their fragile native Gran Chaco forest, the second largest forest in South America after the Amazon.

WWF have published a report that supports the UN and WHO in warning that if we fail to protect natural habitats from wildlife exploitation and unsustainable food systems, we increase the probability of new human pandemic diseases. Factory farms themselves are also breeding grounds for human pandemics like the H1N1 Swine Flu virus that first appeared in factory pig farms in North Carolina in the late 1990s before emerging in 2009 as a global pandemic near a Smithfield-owned factory pig farm in Mexico.

So on top of putting pigs in Argentina at an increased risk of an African Swine Fever outbreak, the population there would be ever more exposed to dangerous pathogens, bacteria and viruses that can pass from animals to humans. To add to their nightmare would be the huge increase in pig waste which causes air, water and soil pollution and sickens local residents. Conveniently for China, Argentina does not have a national environmental law and experts believe that the weak regional laws are not up to the task of imposing regulations on giant agri-industrial corporations in a political battleground where gunmen terrorise and kill local environmentalists.

Collusion between the Chinese and Argentine governments to build these massive pig factories is generating unprecedented resistance among the so-called beneficiaries – the Argentine general public. Combined, their petitions have gathered almost 400,000 signatures; please sign and support!

It is not impossible to stop these factory farms getting permission and even closing them once built. One of the episodes in our Farms Not Factories’ country specific film series, #PigBusiness in Chile, recorded the success of the neighbouring residents in their battle with Government police that achieved the closure of the corporate pig factory giant AGROSUPER on safety grounds. It is in all our interests to campaign against the expansion of factory pig farming, not least because this summer, Chinese scientists reported a pervasive new H1N1- G4 virus in China’s vast pig factory operations which contains “all the essential hallmarks” of a virus that can potentially cause a new human pandemic.

Amongst the many pig factories being opposed by local residents across the world, we must include those in the UK that such as Aldoborough, Norfolk where local residents have mounted a campaign against plans to build 2 factory pig farm sheds just outside the village within 250 metres of 26 residential properties that would inevitably be affected by toxic emissions, stench, light pollution and noise. The decision, in spite of a formidable legal challenge, might be made as early as 17 September, and the consultation period has now closed. We will keep you posted on this.

The solution is to buy local food from high welfare farms. This week we interviewed Anthony Davison, creator of BigBarn, the UK’s no.1 local food website. Anthony tells us about the importance of having access to local food networks and thereby finding healthy food at a fair price to both producer and consumer by cutting out the middlemen, not least supermarkets. By using the power of our purse, we can halt the horrors of global trade and help UK farms survive without becoming animal factories.

Foie Gras: Check Out More From Jessica At http://foiegrasfacts.com/

We had a very nice e mail from Jessica this morning (21/8) who is a student working on a college journalism capstone project.  Jessica’s aim is to build awareness on the immense suffering caused in the Foie Gras production process.

Jessica says to us:

I’m writing to you because I want to help prevent the suffering of ducks and geese in inhumane food production.

We have immediately sent on all of Jessica’s info to our friends at CIWF in London – https://www.ciwf.org.uk/  and also provided Jessica with their Foie Gras website link; https://www.ciwf.org.uk/search/?q=foie+gras  so that she may get extra info here.  Philip, the CEO (and personal friend) at CIWF has come back and informed us that a team member will be providing further assistance.

In the meantime, you can check out Jessica’s Foie Gras site by clicking on the following links;

Venus Additional Notes:

Germany and another 15 member states of the EU prohibit the production of foie gras, as do Switzerland, Great Britain, Australia, India and Argentina.

But this raises the question of how EU policy can justify the fact that in the case of such cruelty to animals, importation and sale are permitted.

It is forbidden to “produce” foie gras in each of these countries above, but it does not contribute to the avoidance of animal suffering, because that only leads to the “outsourcing” of the suffering to other countries.

The Israeli Supreme Court has outlawed the production of foie gras since 2005 due to its incompatibility with the Animal Welfare Act.

In Chicago, the production and sale of foie gras is completely banned.

In 2012 Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a ban on the production and sale of the “delicacy” for California, which was finally confirmed by a court in September 2017.

In the opinion of many lawyers, the “production” of duck and foie gras violates EU Directive 98 / 58CE, which deals with the protection of animals on breeding farms and states, among other things: The way feeding and watering must not cause unnecessary suffering or harm to the animals. “

From a medical point of view, a fatty liver (steatosis hepatis) is a pathologically altered organ of a deliberately made sick animal which, according to hygiene regulations, should not be offered for human consumption.

For this reason, PETA has filed numerous complaints against star chefs and restaurants with several public prosecutors throughout Germany because foie gras violates the Food, Consumer Goods and Feed Act as well as the meat hygiene ordinance.

The French Ministry of Agriculture announced in January 2008 that the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which causes botulism (food poisoning), has been found in French duck foie gras.

The foie gras came from the Montfort company. The product was withdrawn from the market and the manufacturers were warned.

After the outbreak of a bird flu epidemic in November 2015, many countries decided, including Japan, China and Morocco, for safety reasons no longer import foie gras from France for the time being.

The slump in exports led the producers into a crisis, which the government tried to cushion with a month-long production stop instead of consequently phasing out production completely. In 2017, the rampant avian flu again led to mass killing of birds in France and a 40% decrease in the “production” of foie gras there. (Info, PETA)

France: Great News – More than two thirds of French citizens want better animal welfare – But Will the Government Ever Listen to Them ?

More than two thirds of French citizens want better animal welfare

19 August 2020

An unprecedented survey carried out by Fondation Brigitte Bardot and IFOP in August 2020 reveals that French citizens want better protection for animals.

A few weeks after the launch of a shared initiative referendum (RIP) on animal welfare, the results of the survey carried out by our Member Fondation Brigitte Bardot and IFOP confirm the interest shown by French citizens in topics related to breeding, hunting, animal experimentation, wild animals used in circuses, intensive farming, illegal pet trade and slaughter without stunning.

The survey was carried out between August 5 and 7, 2020 with a sample of 1,009 people representative of the French population. The results of the survey were covered by Le Monde and show a strong support from French citizens to improve laws regulating the welfare of animals in France.2/3 of citizens want to see an improvement in the protection of animals in France, despite the lack of political ambition of the government.

For Cristophe Marie, spokesperson of Fondation Brigitte Bardot, “These results bear witness of the interest of the French in the animal condition and the need to start a transition towards production methods that are more respectful of animals, but also towards the abolition of the most cruel practices, such as slaughter without stunning or hunting with hounds.”

The difficulty is that our young president is pursuing an old-fashioned policy, under the influence of hunters and the FNSEA (National Federation of Farmers’ Unions). These lobbies, with their support from high places, thwart any positive development, making France the red lantern of the animal condition in Europe.”

Cristophe Marie, Spokesperson of Fondation Brigitte Bardot

THE SURVEY:

  • 82% of the French are against hunting with hounds;

  • 82% in favor of a ban on the use of cages within the next 5 years;

  • 91% in favor of making outdoor access compulsory for all farmed animals within the next 10 years;

  • 86% in favor of making  the stunning of animals before slaughter compulsory in France (without exception for halal or kosher slaughter);

  • 77% in favor of banning the breeding of animals for the sole purpose of marketing their fur;

  • 70% in favor of a commitment by the public authorities to finance the development of alternative methods to animal experimentation;

  • 73% in favor of banning animal testing within the next 10 years;

  • 72% in favor of banning the sale of pets through social networks, online platforms and pet shops;

  • 84% in favor of the obligation to sterilize stray cats with financial participation from the municipalities;

  • 73% agree that the public authorities should support circuses professionals in the transition towards circuses without wild animals.

BEAVERS WIN LEGAL ‘RIGHT TO REMAIN’ IN ENGLAND FOR FIRST TIME EVER

Posted by Katie Valentine | August 10, 2020

In a landmark judgment, the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has decided to legally grant 15 Eurasian beaver families the permanent “right to remain” within their habitat on the River Otter in East Devon, England.

The “most groundbreaking government decision for England’s wildlife for a generation” comes following a five-year study by the Devon Wildlife Trust regarding beavers’ impact on the local environment and marks the first time in history the English government has supported the reintroduction of an extinct native species within the country. Beavers proved beneficial to the local ecology, the study showed, leading to increased fish biomass, improved water quality, and more food for other animals. Meanwhile, their dams serve as effective flood barriers, preventing nearby homes from being filled with water during storms.

Around 400 years ago, beavers in England went extinct after people hunted them for their meat, fur, and a bodily fluid called castoreum, which is used in perfume, medicine, and food, according to BBC. Since then, the first evidence of a wild breeding population in the country appeared in 2013, when video footage of a young beaver swimming along the River Otter surfaced.

At first, the government threatened to remove the beavers, as unsubstantiated rumours about activists illegally releasing them into the wild in an attempt to revive their numbers surfaced. The Devon Wildlife Trust and University of Exeter, however, won a hard-fought legal battle for the right to study the creatures, who are now legally protected regardless of whether they were deliberately or accidentally returned to their natural environment.

Citing the revival of England’s beaver population as a “public good,” Environment Minister Rebecca Pow mentioned that there will be ongoing attempts to conserve the species, including possibly compensating farmers and landowners in exchange for allowing the animals to live on their land.

There are around 50 beavers living along the River Otter today, all of whom are considered disease-free and non-threatening to the local communities and wildlife that they share their environment with.

Mallorca: the cat torturers of Manacor

GRISITO was one of those cats that live on the street, of those that are part of our landscape, of those that are ignored by the institutions, the same ones that should take care of and protect them.

The same ones that have legal responsibility for them.

He didn’t even have a name, now, yes, Grisito.

Grisito Bildpg

(translated text of the petition) : He was one more neighbor of Manacor, a noble cat whose only crime was living on the street and looking for life as he could.

The street is hard, seldom friendly, and almost always cruel to the most defenseless, but the street, let’s not forget, we are all.

At dawn on Saturday, August 9, 2020, he had the misfortune to run into some young residents of Manacor, who, bored with his bland life, tortured him savagely to death, with a brutal disregard for his life, the nameless cat, the invisible one, nobody’s, every one, also a neighbor of Manacor by right, suffered until his death.

They are accused, among other things, of removing one eye from the animal with their fingers and then killing it.

A neighbor in the area did not look the other way and thanks to that, 2 of the alleged perpetrators were arrested and the next day they were released pending trial (!!!)

The town of Manacor expresses its most energetic rejection of these events, we want Grisito’s cruel death not to go unpunished, we want our cat to be honored with a change in that obsolete Law, that they are never again considered objects, if not sentient beings because Grisito felt …

Justicia Para Grisito_

He felt fear and pain until his death. For this reason, we demand a review of the penal code to apply improvements in it. We also demand improvements in all municipal ordinances. We demand that the authorities fulfill their competences just as we demand effective awareness campaigns.

We are all gray, a society cannot shelter, normalize and protect such despicable acts towards a defenseless being, facts like this are the beginning of a threat to the integrity of all, we must tackle the root problem.

That is why we ask that these “beings” be applied to the maximum legal penalty and do justice for Grisito. His death cannot be in vain … but the beginning of a change.

May their suffering help other “Grisitos” to get rights and laws that protect them so as not to end their days in the worst way inside a garbage container.

Fly high, little angel, free and fearless.

Please sign the Petition: https://www.change.org/p/direcci%C3%B3n-general-de-los-derechos-de-los-animales-justicia-para-grisito

———————————————————————————————————-

And I mean…From the PACMA website:  These sadistic people caught this cat in the wee hours of the morning, tied it up, and tortured it for fun, gouging out one eye amid the desperate howls of the animal.

They beat him and threw him several times to the ground until he ended his life, leaving his corpse in the street as if it were a loot”.

Bild

(photos are from Twitter)

(translated from Spanish-twitter comment): “Now @damiaaalexandre and her killer friend and cat torturer @joancarralero try with whole stories to run over and run away, to avoid facing the fact that they are shits who do not deserve the air they breathe. You are garbage”.

The data are personal but not secret.
We know who they are because they are part of the Partido Popular (PP) lists, if it weren’t for that, we would be cursing them without knowing their identity since the laws protect the criminal …

That is, “thanks” to the PP they are fully identified … After this, they will no longer go on any list of any political party, they are already on the BLACKLIST.

What right to privacy can have a human carbage? Which is the right to the integrity of criminals and what is the priority of right to the save of innocents???
This is to protect criminals, it has no other name.

The name, lineage, profession, and photo of thieves, killers, animal and/or human abusers, and other slags must always be published. Since justice does nothing, let it be society itself that can judge and know who is his neighbor.

Several animalistic associations have called a demonstration in rejection of the death of ‘Grisito’, in Manacor. The protest, which was originally scheduled for August 22, will finally take place on September 5, at 7:00 p.m., in the Plaza Ramon Llull in Manacor.

Everyone has to go!

More than 41,000 signatures, on the way to 50,000 and that in just one week. The Mallorca parties take place without them!
The news appeared in the BILD newspaper, in Germany.

Manacor becomes famous thanks to these two murderers. The cat torturers from MANACOR!

CAPTIVE BELUGA WHALES HAVE FINALLY MADE IT BACK TO THE SEA

https://www.freedomforanimals.org.uk/News/captive-beluga-whales-have-finally-made-it-back-to-the-sea

Two beluga whales who spent a lifetime in captivity and endured years of exploitation at the hands of the Sea Life aquarium company, have now finally made their first plunge back into the sea.

These two whales, named Little White and Little Grey are now being cared for at a sanctuary in Iceland. They arrived at the sanctuary last Spring after a long journey from an aquarium in China, owned by UK company Sea Life. The pair were due to be released into their specially designed sea pen at the sanctuary after a short quarantine, but this was delayed reportedly due to poor weather. Now that day has finally come.

After a short period in a medical pool inside the bay, the whales will live in their large sea pen in the natural waters in Iceland, where they will be as close to wild as is possible for these individuals, who have spent far too long in captivity. This is a fantastic outcome for these two special whales, especially after the traumatic life they have lived.

We at Freedom for Animals share our dearest thanks to our supporters who backed our years long campaign calling on Sea Life and parent company, Merlin Entertainments to release these whales to a sanctuary.

At the aquarium in China, these two whales along with one other individual named JunJun (who sadly died at the aquarium in 2017, after 10 years) were made to perform shows to noisy crowds up to 3 times a day. Undercover footage obtained by Freedom for Animals in 2014 showed the whales being made to perform tricks such as jumping for food, being made to ‘sing’ on command and pushing a human through the water using their heads.

This investigation exposed the hypocritical stance of Sea Life and Merlin who claimed to have a position against the captivity of whales and dolphins (cetaceans). This pressured the company into taking action and after many years of campaigning by animal advocates, they finally moved the whales to a sanctuary.

A note on the sanctuary and the Sea Life Trust.

It is important to understand that this sanctuary is being run by the Sea Life Trust – a charity set up by Sea Life and Merlin, supported by a charity called WDC (Whale and Dolphin Conservation). As outlined last year by our then Campaigns Director Nicola O’Brien, we believe that this sanctuary should be run completely independently from Sea Life to ensure that these whales are left to live in peace. It is also utterly disappointing to see that an aquarium has been set up on site at the sanctuary which means hundreds of other individuals will be held captive. This is no sanctuary for those animals who are now facing a life of exploitation.

This is true of the entire Sea Life brand, who exist as a business to provide animals for humans to look at. Animals who are taken from the wild to provide entertainment, and who endure a lifetime of deprivation. This company is not in any way ‘anti-captivity’ and we have shown that animals suffer greatly at their hands.

But we cannot deny that this sanctuary will make a difference. Not just for these two whales or the other whales the sanctuary says it could possibly take in in future, but also because of the incredibly clear message it sends to the world: that cetaceans should not be held captive, those who do this will be forced to stop and there is a future for those animals currently being exploited.

England: ‘No evidence was found of breaches to legal requirements or Red Tractor standards’. Watch The Video and Judge for Yourself.

17/8 and 19/8 – we have attempted to make Ocado send us a formal response to the investigations by Animal Equality – see   https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2020/08/17/uk-undercover-filming-at-eight-8-moy-park-farms-reveals-hundreds-of-intensive-farmed-birds-suffering-agonising-deaths-each-day/  and until this afternoon (19/8) they claimed they had the wrong e mail address to send info to us.  Hmm, ok, benefit of doubt gives.

We attempted contact by phone with McDonalds, but they only allow e mail questions – so we asked the question as to what they were doing re Moy Park.  We will publish the Mc response if we ever get one; but assume it will be very much in the same context of Ocado below.

Here below is the formal update on Moy Park by Ocado.   As you can see in their statement a Red Tractor spokesman says :

No evidence was found of breaches to legal requirements or Red Tractor standards.

We have also just spoken (a great conversation) with Animal Equality (AE) who are based here in London.  Like us, they view this as typical very good ‘all is well’ yukspeak when actually you can see from the video footage that all is not well.

In consultation with AE, we are publishing e mail and telephone numbers should anyone wish to take this further.  This info is available to anyone who has web access – and as such the info is available to all the public.

Please phone or e mail about this issue if you wish – it is important for the ‘welfare’ of animals in the UK – to show up those who are trying to supress cruelty.

Note:  WE have underlined part of the statement below.

ANIMAL WELFARE – UPDATE ON MOY PARK

 August 12, 2020

At Ocado we carry out regular audits of all our suppliers to ensure the welfare of livestock is managed to the highest standards. Following the allegations raised in March, we worked closely with Moy Park to fully investigate the matter. Independent investigations were also carried out at the time by Red Tractor, Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) and Trading Standards.

A Red Tractor spokesperson said: “We take animal welfare very seriously. All the farms in the footage were investigated by us and stakeholder partners including their vet, the APHA and trading standards to ensure there was a comprehensive account of farm practices. No evidence was found of breaches to legal requirements or Red Tractor standards.

At Ocado we are committed to the highest levels of animal welfare and are satisfied that this footage is not reflective of the practices at Moy Park which is supported by evidence from veterinary experts.

All our meat and dairy products meet the Red Tractor farm assurance standards (or the international equivalent) as a minimum. And we know the subject of animal welfare matters significantly to all our customers so we continue to monitor this situation closely.
