England: ‘Free Tibet’ (London) – Support Tibetans standing up for their environment. Petition.

free tibet fire

From Mark (London) – For many years I have been a donative supporter of ‘Free Tibet’ (FT) which is based here in Ol’ London town.

Why ? – read on please:

The vision is a Free Tibet in which Tibetans are able to determine their own future and the human rights of all are respected. FT campaign for an end to China’s occupation of Tibet and for international recognition of Tibetans’ right to freedom. FT mobilise active support for the Tibetan cause, champion human rights and challenge those whose actions sustain the occupation.

FT are entirely funded by our supporters across the world. You can join us here.

Tibet today is one of the most repressed and closed societies in the world.”

– Senator Robert Menendez, Chair of US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, 2012

China invaded Tibet in 1950. Inside its borders and across the world, Tibetans have never stopped believing Tibet is a nation.

After more than 60 years of occupation, Tibetans still resist China’s rule and defy its oppression.

That’s is why they have my personal support.

If you believe in the rights of animals, as I do; then in some instances you believe in human rights also. A Free Tibet in which Tibetans are able to determine their own future and the human rights of all are respected is such just a case for me – I fully support the work and aims of FT.

Support Tibetans standing up for their environment

Petition Link – https://secure.freetibet.org/support-tibetans-standing-their-environment

The Tibetan Plateau, otherwise known as the Third Pole, is an extremely important region for global climate systems. This vast landscape is the birthplace of nine of Asia’s largest rivers, sustaining nearly two billion people. The plateau contains the largest amount of glacier ice outside of Antarctica and the North Pole and helps regulate climate systems across Asia.

However, Tibet’s unique environment is changing. Along with the Arctic and island nations, Tibet is on the frontline of global climate change and is warming three times faster than the rest of the world. Natural disasters such as droughts, landslides and floods are increasing in frequency. As glaciers and permafrost thaw, people in the mountains may be forced to migrate due to water shortages. Millions of people downstream may also feel the effects of this altered river flow. The health of Tibet’s environment will determine the health of climate systems across Asia and beyond.

“This blue planet is our only home and Tibet is its roof. The Tibetan plateau needs to be protected, not just for Tibetans, but for the environmental health and sustainability of the entire world.” – Dalai Lama

Free Tibet is calling for international recognition for Tibet at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow in 2020.

Help us secure a place for Tibet at COP26. Sign our petition today and in the autumn we will take your signatures to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Environmental Affairs of participating countries.

Tibetans deserve representation and a say in their own environment.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Text of petition:

We the undersigned request that your government ensures that there will be Tibetan representation at the upcoming COP26 climate meeting in Glasgow in November.

One of the key threats faced by Tibetans today is the eradication of their environment, and the most pressing and comprehensive threat to Tibet’s environment is that of climate change. The Tibetan Plateau contains the largest concentration of frozen freshwater outside of the Arctic and Antarctica. But, its glaciers are receding at three times the global average due to climate change, resulting in eight billion tonnes of ice being lost every year as glaciers disappear. Between 1970 and 2010, Tibet lost over 27 per cent of its glacier coverage.

The depletion of Tibet’s glaciers risks seriously disrupting the flow of Tibet’s rivers, posing a threat to rural Tibetans and people downriver who rely on this water. Tibet’s fragile ecosystem could also be seriously damaged. These negative effects could be greatly exacerbated by the current construction of dams across Tibet’s rivers.

These risks require decisive action. We urge your government to make a clear statement of support for Tibetans and recognising them as one of the frontline communities in the struggle against climate change.

Furthermore, we request that you invite a Tibetan to attend COP26, ideally as part of your country’s delegation, with a view to them addressing the conference. It is important that they can recount in their own words the threats to their land and livelihoods that Tibetans are being forced to confront.

We look forward to hearing from you,

Yours sincerely,

free tibet supporters

What sort of madness is this ?

Imagine that you are only a few days old.
You are taken from your mother and thrown into a freezing ice bath, until you pass out.
You wake up on a stainless steel table, with all of your limbs pinned down, as your flesh is sliced open with a scalpel.
When the work is done, you are left to writhe in pain.
If you die, it doesn’t matter.

kanada-
How would you feel if this was your miserable life?
It’s the heartbreaking reality for many of the animals who cross paths with a “scientist” called Tania Roth …

Tania Rothpg

For 18 years, this cruel scientist has subjected animals to torture for the sake of her experiments, and she is funded by the U.S. federal government!
She “has a long and fiendish history of tormenting and killing mice and rats and calling it science, and she has conducted a new round of experiments in which she slashed the spines of day-old baby rats.

Behavioral tests were performed on some of the pups nine days later. Afterward, all the pups were killed and their spines were removed.
Before surgery, the babies were put into a freezing ice bath until they passed out, a painful process called hypothermia that Roth used instead of gas anesthesia. Her publication noted that after surgery, she administered just one dose of pain medication.

roth mit mäuser

There was no indication of any further pain relief.

“The point of Roth’s experiments is supposedly to examine changes in gene expressions in rats after their spinal cords are cut. But much like the full catalog of Roth’s gruesome work, it’s scientifically dubious, at best,” according to PETA.
But that’s just on notch her belt …

“Since 2000, Roth – now at the University of Delaware – has been abusing rats in psychologically distressing and painful experiments.
“Some of her twisted methods include forcing alcohol down the throats of newborns, stuffing pregnant rats into tiny tubes and blasting them with strobe lights, and shocking the feet of rats to terrify them”.

“The tormented rats become fearful, anxious, and depressed – but because of significant biological differences between species, the results of her experiments are irrelevant to human health,” said PETA.

Tania-Roth
They continued on to say that her list of violence against animals “includes injecting them with opioids, tricking baby rats into believing that they’re in danger by smearing their enclosure with fox urine odor, electrocuting them, and taking them away from their mothers and placing them with traumatized adult rats incapable of taking care of them.
“In another bizarre experiment, she put rats inside a small plexiglass enclosure and allowed a cat to lick food off it.”

Mouse-or-Rat-Restraint-Tube

The image above, taken from an article on rodent handling and restraint techniques written by University of Notre Dame staff, depicts a restraint tube similar to the ones used by Roth in her experiment.

When Roth says rats are best suited for her experiments, what she really means is that they are cheap and disposable. She has repeatedly shown a lack of regard for sentient life and no qualms about killing large numbers of rats. When her lab became contaminated with smoke from a fire, she had all 75 rats living in it killed just because she could no longer use them.

What sort of madness is this ?

“More than half of Americans oppose the use of animals in scientific research, according to a 2014 Pew survey,” reported Delaware Online.
And with good reason.
We all value science … but not at the expense of unforgivable acts of cruelty to animals.
The path forward is clear.
It’s time for this wicked “scientist”, Tania Roth, to be fired.
That’s why we’re called on University of Delaware’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee to do the right thing.

According to Delaware Online, they review protocols for animal use and care, and are authorized to suspend or withhold approval to research activities that violate federal standards.

They can also recommend that UD’s administration fire Tania Roth, so that she can never needless harm animals again. We’ll be contacted administration as well, to make sure they get this vital message.
Don’t you want to stop the cruel, heartless practice of cutting the spines out of babies, along with all the other horrific things she has done?
Then add your name to demand that University of Delaware’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, along with university administration, take action to ensure that Tania Roth is terminated in the fastest possible way!

Tierversuche-Mauese-Ratten-für Glyphosat -0247-c-PETA-USA

Federally, Canada has the weakest laws in the western world for protecting animals used in research. Unlike in other countries, here are no federal laws, no inspectors, no public inspection reports, and no way for the public to effectively oversee the secretive activities of animal researchers.

Instead, there are only voluntary guidelines created and overseen by the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), a non-profit with no legal authority. The CCAC can recommend that the federal granting agencies withdraw research funding from a non-compliant institution.

Add your name if you want to end her career, ASAP!

My comment: Quotation of the psychopath Tanja Roth from the website of university…

“We are interested in understanding how environmental factors, such as parenting behavior and social stress, can influence the development of behavior and psychiatric disorders. Our primary interests are centered on identifying epigenetic changes (i.e. DNA methylation) associated with early-life caregiving experiences, particularly maltreatment, and understanding their causal role in behavioral outcome.

All of these psychopaths are funded by our tax dollars. To live out their perverse tendencies towards animals.
It’s useless, non productive, repetitive torture that gives science a bad name and ads nothing whatever of value to the sum of human knowledge when a psychopath massacred animals to find out wich parental behavior causes mental disorders!!!

“There are no data that show you reach a point where you can’t change anything,” she said.

You are right Tania! so we will soon reach the point that your laboratory will shut down.

My best regards to all, Venus

Austria: This Bull was chained to a wall for his entire life. This is his touching reaction to freedom.

Bull was chained to wall his entire life.

This is his touching reaction to freedom

Imagine being chained your entire life, never able to move freely, or run in the fresh, clean air. That was the fate of Bandit, the bull, one of the millions of animals who are locked up and confined to chains and narrow stalls. But for Bandit, life changed for the better.

Gut Aiderbichl Sanctuary, an Austrian rescue group, freed Bandit from his bondage. Despite his confines, Bandit shows nothing but pure enjoyment as Christian, his rescuer, scratches his face and head. Then, when he is released from his chain, Bandit seems genuinely surprised to be free.

He moves tentatively at first, as if unable to believe any of this is actually happening. Suddenly, he leaps up and begins to dance around, celebrating his freedom. He jumps around and rolls in the mound of clean hay before him. This large bull thinks he has hit pay dirt, but he has no idea what is coming next!

Bandit is loaded onto a comfortable trailer and taken to the Gut Aiderbichl Sanctuary, home to hundreds of rescued cows, donkeys, horses, geese, and other animals. There, Bandit is given a large pen with fresh straw to stay in, and this gentle giant can’t help but express his happiness and joy! He jumps and bucks and trots through the straw, shaking his chain-free head with exuberance.

Toward the end of the video, Bandit nuzzles against Christian, thanking this young man for giving him a life of freedom. It is an incredibly heartwarming moment, and proof that animals have feelings, too!

At Gut Aiderbichl Sanctuary, Bandit now lives the life he was meant to live, grazing outside on the green grass and sleeping under the stars. Watch Bandit’s amazing rescue video below. Be sure to share his dance of freedom with your friends and family on Facebook!

New EU- citizens initiative, new hope?

Haien-stopp finning Initiative

Today, the European Commission decided to register a European Citizens’ Initiative entitled ‘Stop Finning – Stop the Trade’ related to sharks and rays. The aim of the Initiative is to ‘end the trade of fins in the EU including the import, export and transit of fins other than if naturally attached to the animal’s body.’

finning

The organisers state that ‘although the removal of fins on board of EU vessels and in EU waters is prohibited and sharks must be landed with their fins naturally attached, the EU is among the biggest exporters of fins and a major transit hub for the global fin trade’.

stopp finning 3PG

Prior to Regulation (EU) No 605/2013, the previous regulation from 2003 prohibited shark fins from being separated, but left a loophole that allows boats with a “special permit” to continue this practice. Around 200 such “special permits” were held annually by Spain and Portugal.

stopp finning 2G

The Initiative specifically calls on the Commission ‘to extend REGULATION (EU) No 605/2013 also to the trade of fins and […] develop a new regulation, extending “fins naturally attached” to all trading of sharks and rays in the EU’.

Under the Treaties, the EU can take legal action in areas of common fisheries policy and common commercial policy. The Commission therefore considers the initiative legally admissible and decided to register it. The Commission has not analysed the substance of the initiative at this stage.

stopp finning 5PG

The registration of this initiative will take place on 2 January 2020, allowing the organizers to start, within next 6 months, a one-year process of collection of signatures of support.

Should the initiative receive one million statements of support within 1 year, from at least 7 different Member States, the Commission will have to react within 6 months. The Commission can decide either to follow the request or not, and in both instances would be required to explain its reasoning.

Background

The European Citizens’ Initiative was introduced with the Lisbon Treaty as an agenda-setting tool in the hands of citizens. It was launched in April 2012.

In 2017, the European Commission tabled reform proposals for the European Citizens’ Initiative to make it more citizen-friendly. In December 2018, the European Parliament and the Council agreed on the reform and the revised rules will start applying as of 1 January 2020. The revised rules, among others, will give the organisers more flexibility to choose the starting date of their campaign as well as revise the proposed initiative before the Commission’s registration decision.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In the meantime, the Commission has been raising awarenessof the European Citizens’ Initiative through a communication campaign and offered support to organisers via a collaborative platform. In total, the Commission has registered 71 Citizens’ Initiatives and refused 26, with only 6 refusals in the past 5 years.

Once formally registered, a European Citizens’ Initiative allows one million citizens from at least one quarter of EU Member States to invite the European Commission to propose a legal act in areas where the Commission has the power to do so.

The conditions for admissibility are that the proposed action does not manifestly fall outside the framework of the Commission’s powers to submit a proposal for a legal act, that it is not manifestly abusive, frivolous or vexatious and that it is not manifestly contrary to the values of the Union.

Please sign the Petition:  https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_19_6783

plakat gegen finning jpg

And I mean...does anyone remember the end the cage age EU citizens’ initiative?
It officially ended on September 11, 2019 with 1.5 million votes.
The commission has 6 months to decide, a position has to come in March at the latest. But we don’t know anything about it.

Apparently it doesn’t look good, because the German meat mafia is already baking its own “bread-rolls” with the extension of the animal torture in pig boxes, do you remember this article https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2020/02/14/germany-the-horror-of-the-pig-boxes-remains-for-the-time/ ?

Ignorance and corruption in EU circles should not be underestimated; that’s what i want to say.

Of course, we will and must all participate in this initiative, we will invest hope and energy again to save these animals and our oceans from criminals.

But at the next time we need a citizens’ initiative to abolish the EU itself; because on its current form the EU has failed in both human and animal welfare.

My best regards to all, Venus

We work every day to make animal rights finally more acceptable to our society.

With the documentation and presentation of animal suffering, due to human ignorance and economic interest, we are trying to create a better, fairer world for animals.

We fight for a world in which animals and humans live together in peace and freedom.
We will never stop fighting for this vision, we will never betray the animals.

Hey Vegans – Don’t Miss Out On Your B12.

Image result for B12

Of all the nutrients that vegans must pay attention to, Vitamin B12 is at the very top of the list.

It is essential for nervous system health, so every vegan needs to take this nutrient seriously. People with B12 deficiency risk developing numerous conditions ranging from worrisome to horrific.

Only animal-based foods, or supplemented vegan foods, contain Vitamin B12. Unfortified vegan foods contain virtually none of this nutrient. Deficiencies may take several years to arise though. That’s because the liver often stores comparatively large amounts of B12. It’s dangerous to be complacent about finding a reliable source of B12 because deficiency can creep up over time, silently doing damage before symptoms arise.

Article reproduced without change from https://www.vegan.com/b12/

Do Vegans Need to Take Vitamin B12?

One of the great annoyances of being vegan is that you will sometimes encounter other vegans who insist that there’s no need to take a B12 supplement. Generally speaking these people will say something like, “I’ve been vegan for eight years, never take B12 supplements, and I’m in perfect health,” but meanwhile they’re all twitchy and something just isn’t right. In many cases these people will experience a health crisis, return to eating meat, and then tell the world that a vegan diet leads to failed health. Unfortunately, having a productive dialog with these folks is generally futile, just like there’s no reasoning with the Vegan Police.

Why are there so many vegans who take pride in spurning B12 supplements? It’s because back in the 1980s and 1990s several prominent vegan advocacy books came out that downplayed the need for vegans to take B12. Because these books referred to early and unreliable research, B12 misinformation got a big head start on the truth.

Why Supplements Make Sense

There are all sorts of ludicrous arguments asserting that vegans don’t need B12. Some people contend it’s produced by your intestines (it’s not, at least in a way that your body absorbs). Others claim algae or seaweed are good sources (no again, even though some inaccurate tests yield positive results). And still other people proclaim you can satisfy your B12 requirements by not washing your vegetables (that’s just silly.)

In at least a couple cases, the vegan authors contributing to B12 complacency went back to eating animal products. But the damage these books have done have produced ripple effects continuing to today.

Meeting Your B12 Needs

Vegans can easily meet their B12 needs through supplements or by regularly eating B12 fortified foods. Some of these supplements contain non-vegan ingredients, but all of the supplements featured on this page are vegan.

When swallowed as a pill, B12 is absorbed poorly. You’ll get better absorption from B12 lozenges or ‘sublingual tablets’, which are different words for the same thing. You let these tablets dissolve under your tongue, thereby enabling B12 absorption through the capillaries in your mouth. A sensible dosage is a 1000 to 2000 microgram tablet taken a few times a week. Note that many brands of B12 contain methylcobalamin, but research indicates cyanocobalamin can satisfy your body’s needs with much smaller doses.

Foods commonly fortified with B12 include non-dairy milks, cereals, meat substitutes, energy bars, and nutritional yeast. Check the food’s nutrition label to see its level of B12. Many of these foods contain this nutrient in surprisingly small amounts. Note that B12 fortified foods are dosed with the very same B12 that is put into supplements. This means that obtaining your B12 through fortified vegan foods is in no way more “natural” than purchasing supplements. Additionally, it may be difficult to meet your B12 needs through fortified foods, since comparatively few products are fortified, and B12 fortification of foods is often at low levels.

The Best Vegan B12 Supplement

For most vegans, it’s therefore much easier and more reliable to simply buy a bottle of vegan B12 lozenges. Sublingual B12 supplements are easy to find online or at any natural foods store. Of the dozens of B12 supplements Amazon stocks, probably the best buy is Now Foods’ 2000 microgram cyanocobalamin lozenges. A bottle comes in under $10, and gives you a large dose of B-12, that includes the cyanocobalamin molecule.

Unless you like burning money, avoid sprays or other high-priced B12 products. While sprays may perhaps be better absorbed than lozenges, they also cost vastly more. The one thing you should care about when choosing a vegan B12 brand is bang for the buck. Strive to get the most micrograms of cyanocobalamin per bottle at the lowest cost. And don’t buy tablets intended to be swallowed—instead, choose “sublingual” tablets or lozenges. There’s no good reason to buy expensive brands of B12 . The purchase price of expensive supplements goes primarily to buy slick advertising.

Dealing with Poor B12 Absorption

Ability to absorb vitamin B12 decreases with age, and some people cannot absorb sufficient B12 orally. Luckily, determining your B12 levels is one of the cheapest blood work tests available, and it’s standard on every basic nutrient panel.

If your levels are low despite regular use of sublinguals, injections may be warranted. Since injections go straight into the muscle, they guarantee that high levels of B12 will be absorbed. These injections require a prescription in the United States. But in Mexico and many other countries, you can buy hypodermic needles pre-loaded with B12 at any pharmacy without a prescription. Obviously, only people with proper medical qualifications should administer injections.
