Mother earth is daying, thanks to one species!

Isn’t it surprising to think just how beautiful and raw nature was a few million years ago, and how it has changed into something that the world is worrying about, now?

It’s astounding to see how humans have evolved and emerged on one hand and have managed to put our mother Nature in such grave danger, on the other.

The Brainshow

And… I can imagine (almost) no other politically effective action, which as only one creates so much, as the vegan way of life. With just one thing, not eating meat, we can do a lot of things well for our planet.

Brazil: The Amazon by Drone – Cattle Ranching Accounts for 80% of Brazilian Amazon Deforestation.

Brazil burning

amazon planet lungs

Dear Mark,

Our drones took to the skies once again, and this time we uncovered massive deforestation in the Amazon. Even more shocking? Meat production is to blame for this devastation.

The Amazon rainforest is one of the world’s treasures and likely the most important natural place on Earth. But it is being destroyed at a rate of four football fields per minute.

Why? According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, cattle ranching accounts for 80 percent of Brazilian Amazon deforestation.

Soy crops are another cause of deforestation in the Amazon and in other extremely important biomes, such as the Brazilian savanna. Few people know that 79 percent of soybeans are used as feed for chickens, pigs, and fish, and not for human consumption.

Destruction of the Amazon rainforest has worldwide consequences. If we don’t protect it now, the future of life on Earth will be at risk.

The good news is that you can help. The best way for everyone to help stop the destruction of the Amazon rainforest is to choose plant-based foods. It’s as easy as swapping animal products for the delicious, satisfying plant-based versions that are growing in popularity.

Sincerely,

Lindsay Oliver

The destruction of nature has taken on a gigantic dimension. If humans had a planet twice the size, they would probably spread further. But they only have this planet. It’s like a screw that you put on more and more: at some point it’s crazy. Plant trees against climate change, it is said, but on the other hand, real raids are taking place against forests.
The Amazon rainforest is on fire and new research shows that in just a decade, large corporations like General Mills, IKEA, Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg, L’Oréal, Mars, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble and Unilever have 50 million acres of forest destroyed.

In Congo, too, the biggest threat to the rainforest is industrial clearing and the shift to large-scale agriculture, and here as well: massive deforestation for palm oil, rubber and sugar production. They are also called the wood magnates who do not stop at protected areas.
It is a rampant illegal trade in which only a few benefit, while at the same time a raid against humans and nature takes place and many animal and plant species are extinguished.

Many countries and companies are committed to reducing deforestation by 2020 or avoiding deforestation altogether.
Unfortunately, it was only a promise, as recent research shows.
Companies that are globally recognized as polluters, such as General Mills, IKEA, Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg, L’Oréal, Mars, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble and Unilever, have committed themselves in 2010 over the next decade the deforestation to end.
Now it turns out they destroyed 50 million hectares of forest in just a decade to raise cattle, palm oil, pulp and paper and soybeans.

We have already reported on the deforestation of Solomon Islands.
The Solomon Islands have a fascinating and varied landscape with rainforests, waterfalls, lagoons, coral reefs and active volcanoes. But that could soon be over, because to quench China’s hunger for wood, the precious forests of the Solomon Islands are felled.

Corals, colorful fish, long sandy beaches, lonely islands – that’s how many people know the Solomon Islands, but the South Seas paradise is in danger and doomed to sinking.

The small group of islands in the Pacific is after Papua New Guinea (PNG) China’s second largest source of tropical timber.
Together, the Solomon Islands and PNG deliver a staggering 50% of tropical timber imports in China. The rain forests are ruthlessly cut down because of the valuable woods, without paying attention to nature and environmental protection or to the delicate ecological balance of the rainforests. They quench the hunger for wood of the Chinese.

Palm oil plantations instead of rainforest: After the corporations destroyed the rainforests of Sumatra and Borneo, the palm oil industry is now pushing to new regions like Papua.

Entwaldung-77On the map of globalforestwatch.org you can see where deforestation is taking place in Asia.

In the 2000s, the Cambodian government began leasing millions of acres of land – called concessions – to private companies, some of which are located in protected forests.
According to a series of reports by the international non-governmental organization Environmental Investigation Agency, between 2016 and 2018 nearly half a million cubic meters of wood were smuggled from Cambodia to Vietnam.

“Perhaps 10 years ago there were jungles and lots of forest and many wildlife such as elephants, tigers, rabbits …” says Auch Leng, an environmental activist who fights against the gigantic wood tycoons to stop deforestation.
“Private companies have come to destroy the forest here, and other sanctuaries, such as Boeung Per in the north, are rapidly approaching the same fate. I saw 23 wooden transporters from the Phnom Prich area. “

Another Cambodian forest activist, Chut Wutty, was killed in 2012 when he revealed the machinations of a lumberjack company. Since then, several other forest patrols have been killed, including three who were shot dead on the Vietnamese border last year. Leng also received numerous death threats.

According to data from Global Forest Watch, Cambodia lost 2.17 million hectares of tree cover from 2001 to 2018, a decrease of 25%.

Entwaldung-6

“Sometimes I cry. I’m disappointed because I can not protect the forest, “says Leng on a mission to defeat Cambodia’s wood magnate and expose a rampant illegal cross-border trade. “I see the destruction is so great, but nobody helps protect it.”

Try Pheap is one of several Cambodian business magnates who have amassed tremendous wealth during Prime Minister Hun Sen’s regime.

Already in 2016, the American business magazine “Forbes” reported on Cambodia’s rulers. Over the past decade, Try Pheap, in its early fifties, has made a name for itself in this 15 million nation. An employee of Prime Minister Hun Sen, who has ruled the country since 1985, is deeply “connected” with him. In addition to agricultural plantations, Try Pheap has a large and growing interest in real estate, including three casinos, two dry harbors for local and international shipping and two special economic zones in border areas. He founded the petrol dealer “PAPA” and is building a $ 300 million port in Kampot province on the south coast of the country.

The EU has been an important development partner of Cambodia since the early 1990s. The EU support is intended to support the policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which is reflected in the government’s medium-term development plans, the EU said.
The European Union’s development assistance for Cambodia currently amounts to 410 million euro for bilateral cooperation 2014-2020 and 21 million euro for the thematic budget lines 2014-2017 (approximately 457.3 and 23.4 million USD, respectively).
With this funding, the EU can focus its support on priority sectors in Cambodia that have a significant impact on the country’s development.
Who the EU actually supports: the tycoons of Cambodia!

Lost world of Cambodia

In Cambodia, approximately 14.5 million inhabitants live on an area of 181,040 square kilometers. That corresponds to about half the area of Germany. Cambodia is not only losing valuable rainforest through illegal logging, but Singapore is digging sand out of the mangrove forests of Cambodia.
It threatens to extinguish an ecosystem, the home of many animals and plants on the Red List of endangered species, whether the Siam crocodiles, cap gibbons or even elephants.

So, like the depletion of nature in Cambodia, so the gigantic pillage takes place all over the world!

My comment: “The world is not evil, it’s just full”, I had read somewhere.

Humanity is growing every day by about 200,000 heads! This is an apocalyptic number par excellence. It is the cause by which the future of man, animal and nature will lasting and permanently destroyed.

(Genesis 1: 1-2,25): God created man in his image, in the image of God he created him; and created them as husband and wife.

And God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and conquer it and reign over the fish in the sea and over the birds under the sky and over all the beasts crawling on the earth”.
We did that.
And we have created more than this crime, we treat animals and nature as raw materials, as factory goods and our slaves, we are about to eradicate both. Of course, we can continue to breed animals as slaves, but the destruction of nature is unaffordable and soon becomes a life-threatening reality.

Therefore: be infertile and not multiply.
Reign over the manipulation and propaganda of the system and stop living on animals, exploiting animals.
That could be enough as a first measure.

My best regards to all, Venus

England (London): Environmental Activists Kick Off With Major Protest At Start of ‘London Fashion Week’.

England

WAV Comment – ‘those times they are a changing’ – through actions such as this people finally wake up to animal welfare abuses and the destruction of the environment.

This is what I love about us Brits – usually polite, good mannered, do the right things, usually obey the law, royalty etc – but when they know something is wrong, they get out there to try and put it right ! – Mark.

Several Extinction Rebellion protesters glued themselves to the door of a London Fashion Week venue

A group of environmental activists have glued themselves to the entrance of London Fashion Week’s official opening as part of a protest urging action against climate change.

Activists lay outside a London Fashion Week venue

Five members of the Extinction Rebellion group, which brought major streets to a standstill in five UK cities earlier this summer, were photographed outside 180 Strand standing hand-in-hand in white outfits splattered with fake blood.

Video from the scene shows another group of activists lying on the ground in pools of fake blood while one campaigner read a poem about the environmental threats posed by the fashion industry.

Activists poured black liquid on themselves in protest against the fashion industry using leather

“The fashion industry is killing our planet,” the activist began. “Every year, every month, every week, you abuse this Earth. You produce clothes for profit and pleasure, not for need.

“You choose profit over planet, profit over people, profit over our future. The fashion industry tugs at our heartstrings, it begs us to come into shops, feel its fabrics, don beautiful dresses, trendy tops, season’s hottest handbags.”

The speaker continued: “You entice us with shiny shimmering things, shallow empty promises and I almost fall into your trap, but then I ask ‘Who made this, and where?’ But you don’t tell us the truth.

“We see your ads, beautiful bodies that make us feel that if I buy that dress, my body might look that beautiful too. But there is nothing beautiful about clothes whose making is destroying our planet.”

In a statement on Extinction Rebellion’s website, the group describes its actions as “having highlighted the blood on the hands of the industry due to its environmental record and that ‘business as usual’ will lead life on earth towards extinction”.

In July, Extinction Rebellion sent a letter to the British Fashion Council (BFC) urging them to cancel London Fashion Week and in favour of a summit to address the climate crisis attended by industry professionals.

The group claims the fashion industry is one of the “most polluting industries in the world”, pointing to the carbon footprint of international flights and shipping.

Extinction Rebellion plans to hold several protests during Fashion Week, some of which will take place outside main shows.

Their actions will culminate on Tuesday with a “funeral procession” beginning in Trafalgar Square to “reflect on the lives already lost and that will be lost as a result of climate and ecological breakdown”.

England: Bovine TB Up By 130% – Higher Than When Badger Culls Began. Badgers Being Killed To Pacify Farmers; While They Take No Responsibility for Biosecurity.

England

badgers north west hunt sabs

Bovine tuberculosis rates in one of England’s main badger cull areas shot up by 130 per cent last year and are higher than when culls began, it has been revealed – just hours before the government is due to announce an expansion of the cull.

Experts including vets and former government advisers called for the planned cull widening to be cancelled, warning that announcing it while Parliament was prorogued could be illegal.

badger artwork

Last year’s increase in TB rates demonstrated a “disastrous failure” of the policy of shooting badgers dead in an effort to tackle the disease in cattle, they said.

And in an urgent eleventh-hour plea, they also wrote to the government’s chief veterinary officer, Christine Middlemiss, saying she has “a responsibility” to intervene.

Plans to expand the badger cull were based on outdated information – from 2017 – but the new, 2018 statistics should be taken into account, said Iain McGill, a former government agriculture scientist.

badger artwork

Opponents of the cull claim up to 50,000 badgers could be killed this year if the expansion goes ahead – nearly double the number last year.

Official data obtained under Freedom of Information laws showed confirmed incidents of bovine TB in the Gloucestershire culling zone went up by 130 per cent over 2017, from 10 to 23.

Since pilots of culling began in Gloucestershire in 2013, the badger population in the area has dropped sharply, so the increased TB outbreaks suggest the government is focusing on the wrong issue, Dr McGill told The Independent. He believes culling should be replaced by changes to cattle testing, and cattle vaccination and treatment.

The experts wrote to Tony Juniper, the head of Natural England, which issues licences, that up to a quarter – 9,000 – of badgers shot are likely to have suffered “immense pain”.

Dr McGill, the lead signatory of the letter to Natural England, said: “After all this brutality, TB in cattle is actually worse. Badger culling has been a disastrous failure.

“The public will be flabbergasted by these figures because the vast majority don’t support culling in view of the extremely strong scientific evidence that it hasn’t worked.

badger artwork

“I think what’s going on is a scientific fraud.”

When he later asked for figures on TB prevalence – a more powerful indicator – officials at the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) refused to give it, citing public interest, Dr McGill said.

“They are trying to force through this badger cull before a full analysis of available data precisely because they know how bad the science looks for this cataclysmic policy.

“There is a huge sense of urgency here – Mr Juniper and Christine Middlemiss need to come before Parliament and the nation to make a statement on this policy before Parliament is prorogued.

badger artwork

“For the cull to be announced this year with no parliamentary scrutiny would be unconstitutional and possibly illegal.”

Dominic Dyer, chief executive of the Badger Trust, has also called for the “largest destruction of a protected species” to be cancelled while Parliament is not sitting.

“By the time it returns most of the badgers will have been killed,” he said.

Prof Ranald Munro, the former chairman of an independent expert group appointed by the government to assess the trials, has warned the policy is causing “huge suffering”.

A Defra spokesperson said: “Bovine TB remains one of the greatest animal health threats to the UK, causing devastation for hard-working farmers and rural communities.

badger artwork

“There is no single measure that will provide an easy answer to beating the disease. That is why we are pursuing a range of interventions to eradicate the disease by 2038, including tighter cattle movement controls, regular testing and vaccinations.”

The government says it is considering a report of a TB strategy review led by Sir Charles Godfray, which includes badger vaccination, and will publish its response later this year.

Indonesia: Urgent Appeal – Fire In Forests of Orangutan Foundation Facilities. Can You Donate to Help ?

Indonesia

WAV Comment – Every time we do a food shop, some of our costs are donated to BOSF – it is an organisation that is part of us.  Please help if you can to save these magnificent animals and their habitat from the fires of the forests.  Thanks – Mark

Fires have once again ravaged Central Kalimantan’s peat forests, including the working area of the BOS Foundation’s Mawas Conservation Program in Kapuas District. Recent forest fires have scorched the Mawas area in the vicinity of Tuanan and Sei Mantangai – near Danau Teloh area.

Fire first struck the Daha River Basin, near the Tuanan Research Station, on 2 September 2019. The Mawas team received vital information about the fire from the team at Tuanan and the firefighting team from Mangkutub village. It is speculated that the fire started in a local villager-owned field and spread from there to the Tuanan Research Camp area, specifically to the southern area of the Daha River, about 250 meters from the South Transect.

Significant measures were previously put in place to help prevent fires and expedite rapid response to forest fire outbreaks in this area. However, the challenges forest fires present are often overwhelming, and the minimal infrastructure and limited access to the hotspots makes fighting them incredibly difficult. Unfortunately, a long dry season and insufficient water sources have led to extensive areas of forest being lost to fire.

The team on location has already reported the situation to the relevant authorities, including the Government Fire Brigade, the Protection Forest Management Unit (KPHL), the police, and the military. But, due to the widespread occurrence of forest fires across Indonesia at present, support has yet to come from these agencies, as their personnel are currently mobilized in other areas.

Over the last four days, the Mawas firefighters and the Tuanan camp research team have been fighting fires by isolating the burned areas and drilling new wells to help douse the surrounding grounds. Our Mawas team and the firefighting team from Mangkutub village worked hand-in-hand to drill the ground and successfully completed digging six new wells in the area. The team then used water siphoned from the wells to stop the flames from spreading.

https://orangutan.or.id/mawas-under-threat-again/

Forest fires are raging near the Tuanan Research Camp, putting orangutans, other wildlife, and humans in imminent danger!

The centre of this recent fire outbreak is located in the Mawas Conservation Area in Central Kalimantan, home to thousands of plant and animal species, including around 2,550 wild orangutans.
The Mawas firefighting and research teams are working tirelessly to contain the fire, by isolating scorched areas and drilling new wells to help douse the surrounding grounds.

Read more about the current threat of fires in this area.

We are heartbroken by what is happening right now – and you might feel powerless, Mark. But, there is way you can help!

New Zeland: we say “thank you”!

new-zealand-flag

Swimming with dolphins is the wish of many tourists and they are willing to pay a lot of money. Scientists have been criticizing dolphin swimming for a long time. To protect the dolphins, now New Zealand has banned swimming with dolphins. Not the profit may be in the foreground, but the animal welfare, so the government of New Zealand.

In the Bay of Islands on the North Island of New Zealand, people were able to swim with the dolphins. With dire consequences, the number of dolphins visiting the bay has fallen 66% since 1999. Now tourists can only watch the dolphins from a distance. This is a great step on behalf of New Zealand to protect dolphins in the area.

Finalist-Dolphin-Dance-by-Barbara-Louw-768x512

With boats, the tourists go to the dolphins swimming on the water. As soon as the dolphins arrive, the tourists jump into the water and try to stroke the dolphins and take a photo for the social networks. Often it is the nature lovers who visit New Zealand because of the beautiful landscape, but they are unaware that it is their actions that endanger nature. Because people who swim with dolphins disturb the sensitive animals and disturb their natural life.

Neuseeland delphinen und taucher

It was not until May 2019 that the New Zealand government published that the environment in New Zealand was in serious trouble. Every year more than two million tourists come to New Zealand. And in the Bay of Islands, tour operators offer dolphin-watching tours in nature. “Explore the Bay of Islands on a nature exploration cruise on the high-speed catamaran. Experience these intelligent and playful mammals in their natural habitat: “From 74 euros a tourist can book this four-hour tour.

Many people are unaware that swimming with dolphins in the sea disturbs their way of life and leads to behavioral changes. When people actively pursue and encourage dolphins to swim with them and spend time with them, it is called harassment.
Researchers at Newcastle University have already shown in a study that this thesis is well justified. For example, they were able to prove that the animals are tired and dull when people come to their habitats for dolphin swimming.

ADAC Reisemagazin 0163_240_Eliat_Delphine

“Swimming with dolphins may be sold as a life-affirming experience, but research shows it can be traumatic to marine mammals themselves,” the researchers said.

Since 1999, the local population of the Bay of Islands has decreased by 66% to a core group of only 19 dolphins, which are frequently visited by the Bay of Islands. Latest research shows a 75% calf mortality rate – the highest in New Zealand, internationally or in captivity, according to the New Zealand Department of the Environment on August 29, 2019. “The population of dolphins in the Bay of Islands can only be protected if everyone contributes to it contributes. ”

This is a great step for the sea animals in New Zealand. We hope that other parts of the world will take such steps and give the population of wildlife priority over profit.

All over the world, animals are exploited for tourism and this very industry is booming.
But things are going well, as popular protests are on the rise, and in June 2019, the captivity of whales and dolphins was banned in Canada. In Canada, a law has been passed that the dolphins and whales should no longer be captured to be mistreated for the enjoyment of visitors. And in Hawaii too, the government plans to introduce new laws prohibiting swimming with dolphins.

They were born to live freely and not to be mistreated for profit.

Below is a video from 2018 showing the popular activity that was banned now, thanks New Zealand!

https://netzfrauen.org/2019/09/08/newzealand-5

My comment: The supply regulates the demand, it is in the entertainment industry.

The tour organizers are not at all interested in the suffering of the animals, even if mass extinction happens, the entertainment mafia does not shy away from it.
The tourists are not informed under what dire circumstances and consequences the dolphins of nature are snatched away.
But there are a large number of them who, despite their information, are even less interested in animal suffering and are doing some kind of colonial tourism in exotic countries in recent years. Their main goal is to bring home selfies and rare docu photos with wild animals. They want more and more action and adventure, which usually happens at the expense of the animals.
We can save the suffering animals in the entertainment industry by sending pictures, videos and documentations to the tour operators and the relevant ministries. Of the mass alone, the change will not come.
In Germany there are only two dolphinariums left, in Nuremberg and in the zoo of Duisburg. However, there have been petitions on the Internet for some time now demanding that they be shut down and the dolphins released. Dolphinariums are also part of the dirty entertainment industry.
Only when the supply disappears, then the demand is gone.

This is the eleventh hunt this year – with over 600 pilot whales slaughtered in so far in 2019.

The brutal tradition attracts spectators who stand at the edge of the crimson water and watch the mass slaughter

Sea Shepherd, a non-profit sea conservation charity, were there to document the slaughter in the islands in between Iceland and Norway.

The hunt, also known as ‘the grind’ lasted for more than 5 hours with the Faroese boats harassing and chasing the pod of whales.

The killing of the creatures, who are not yet identified as endangered due to the lack of documentation, took 12 minutes.

OVER 600 KILLED THIS YEAR

Other pictures captured by the charity show the dumping of the remains of the whales back into the sea with some people questioning why it happens in the first place.

One Instagrammer said: “Such a waste, they literally died for nothing.”

The whales are allegedly slaughtered for their meat and blubber and often tourists will watch as the sea turns red with blood.

This centuries-old tradition helps feed the population of the remote Atlantic island over winter with the Faroese locals claiming it is sustainable and regulated by law.

But campaign groups say it is inhumane and want the hunts banned.

The whales' meat and blubber is harvested

THE grind, or grindadrap, is a yearly whale hunt that takes place on the Faroe Islands.

During a grind, a flotilla of small boats drives whales or dolphins into a shallow bay where they can be easily killed with knives.

Grinds are the longest continuously practiced and relatively unchanged whaling tradition in the world, says Russell Fielding, a geographer from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

He has studied the Faroe Island grinds since 2005.

“They do feel a real cultural attachment to [the grinds],” notes Fielding. “However, the Faroese are quick to point out that it is for food primarily.”

The meat can be boiled, broiled as a steak, or air-dried, says Bjarki Dalsgarŏ, a 28-year-old Faroese who has participated in grinds.

“Air-dried whale meat is quite common and is considered a bit of a delicacy,” he notes.

It is usually eaten raw in thin slices. In his family, the blubber is eaten as a side, along with potatoes.

Speaking earlier this year, a spokesperson for the campaign group said:  “Over the course of the lengthy drive more and more members of the public and tourists could be seen stopping along the coastline to watch the family of pilot whales struggle and resist.

“As is often the case, the grind was swiftly becoming a social event with parents laughing and chatting as children played on the killing beach.

“The level of excitement was clearly growing as anticipation of the brutality came closer, epitomising the social aspect of the grind was the sight of a youth group – possibly a guides or scout group – sat eagerly watching and waiting.”

“Grind participants ran cheering into the pod to start attaching ropes and pulling individuals out to begin slaughtering.

They added:  “Though, as usual, the ‘humane’ process of killing the pilot whales was far from it, with multiple unsuccessful attempts to paralyse the with the lance were observed on a number of the pod.

“Having previously observed other pilot whale drives our crew noted that this pod had clearly been worn out or resigned to their fate as little to no cries were heard from the pod.

“As the family were laid out on the docks the all too familiar and disturbing images of children jumping on and playing with the dead could be seen.

In September 2018, the charity offered the Faroe Islands 1 million Euros for 10 consecutive years with no whale hunts but were rejected.

WAV Comment – Back around 1991 Jo, I and Trev were out on the streets campaigning about this slaughter – trying to get supermarkets to boycott fish from the Faroe Islands.  You can see us in the picture below.  Today, what some 30 years later, this blood lust is still going on.  As usual, the EU SAY NOTHING AT ALL about this – which just proves how crap they are.

Below – Myself, Joanne and Trev on the streets in 1991 campaigning about this.

Well to date there is no victory, but in the end the Danes will be ashamed about they are being portrayed the world over – then they will do something about it.  I just wish our actions in 91 had done something – a lot of beautiful, innocent whales have died ever since.

Australia: Reef scientists are begging for climate action. The Government Does Not Seem to care. Make Your Voice Heard.

Australia

Reef scientists are begging for climate action.

gbr4

Hundreds of experts just issued a shocking new report: coral breeding cycles are collapsing, currents are shifting by hundreds of kilometres, and the Reef’s health has been downgraded to “very poor” for the first time ever.

And the Morrison Government’s response? Hide. Deny. Distract. Like when he tried to get Pacific Island leaders to shut up about climate change.  Like when he pressured UNESCO to ignore the impact of climate on the Reef.

Morrison is desperate to bury the story of the climate crisis and keep big coal donors happy.

But the tide is rising. And so must we. The report is so damning, it’s already making headlines across the world.

The scientists said it best: “actions taken now will matter.”

STAND WITH SCIENTISTS: Sign the petition and make their call for action too big to ignore!

This news is so devastating, even Morrison can’t make it go away.

After 5 years of comprehensive research, coordinated by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, scientists have found:

  • The waters of the Reef have already warmed by 0.8 degrees

  • The number of new corals plummeted by 89% after the latest round of mass bleaching

  • Not only has the East Australian Current already warmed, it’s moved South by 350 kilometres

  • CO2 pollution has made the ocean more acidic, eroding coral skeletons (oceans are acidifying faster than any time in the past 50 million years)

  • The unprecedented damage to the Reef threatens Traditional Owners’ quality of life, songlines and enduring connection to sea country

Right now, we’re preparing a simple, plain-English summary of the 374-page report to get in front of every MP and press gallery member. With your help, we can build up pressure on MPs from all sides of politics to demand answers when parliament goes back in a week. First, we need hard proof that voters are demanding action in numbers too great to ignore.

Sign now to demand all MPs join you in speaking out about this devastating news.

The Reef is one of the world’s most adored natural wonders. It is the sea country home for more than 70 Traditional Owner groups. It provides meaningful work for 70,000 people.

As well as a stark warning, the scientists also delivered a message — now is the time to step up, not give up:

“It is important not to lose optimism by thinking the job is too big, or to think that a changed Reef is far in the future — actions taken now will matter.”
Will you join the call for every single MP to step up and tell the people what they are doing to save the Reef from the climate crisis?

In the years we’ve defended the Reef together we’ve stopped dredging, overturned plans to expand Abbot Point Port, forced shipping companies to steer clear of some of the most fragile ecosystems, and blocked the construction of the biggest new coal mine on earth.

Together, we are powerful. Today, the Reef needs us more than ever.

For the Reef,
