In the canton of Zurich, a vote will be taken on 23.9.2018 on the initiative “Gamekeeper instead of hunters”!
Because killing should not be a hobby!
The initiative briefly explained:
“Today’s hunting is counterproductive!
Due to the intensive hunting of the wild animals their fertility increases, as the animals become sexually mature due to the hunting pressure. This leads to an inventory increase. Hunters cite this artificially generated increase in wildlife populations as a justification for killing wildlife.
Experience and studies have shown that wildlife is largely self-regulated even without hunting (Wild Sanctuary City of Zurich, Canton of Geneva, Luxembourg with ban on fox hunting). In the canton of Geneva, the hunt was replaced in 1974 by a plebiscite in a referendum that proved its worth. This model is to be introduced by the initiative in the canton of Zurich.
Following the adoption of the initiative, regulations (as in the Wild Sanctuary of the City of Zurich or in the hunt-free Canton of Geneva) will only be carried out by professionally trained game wardens.
This drastically reduces stress and agonizing deaths caused by misses for the wild animals. In addition, gamekeepers retire at the age of 65 and the consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited during work. Quite different when it comes to hobby hunting: Hunters and hunters are allowed to go hunting even in old age and often consume alcohol during that time.

Benefits of the initiative
– Abandon animal cruel hunting forms such as fox construction hunting and drift hunting.
-Enforcement of animal welfare.
– Hunting accidents involving persons are in fact excluded.
– No accidental killing of farm animals and pets.
– Birds, hares, squirrels and others are no longer shot for fun on the kill.
-Wildlife observations are increasingly possible.
-The diversity of animals and plants is promoted.
-More environmental and nature protection (reduction of lead pollution in the forest, closure of the hunting shooting facilities).
– Less conflicts of interest between hunters and authorities.
– Promotion of wild animal research by specialists.
– Protection and conservation of wildlife habitat.
–Gamekeepers with the license of the hunting keeper have a higher vocational education (not just a hunting license).
The initiative protects wild animals and benefits everyone!
The cost of professional wildlife management is around 12 million Swiss francs (that’s 0.08% of the state budget for 2018). For this, the population receives sustainable nature and wildlife protection.
The current system of militia hunting is by no means cost-effective. It causes an annual deficit in the millions. In addition, the rehabilitation costs of the hunting shooting facilities are not included.
The opinion of the Swiss people
A survey recently published in the “Zurcher Tagesanzeiger” shows that the Swiss population rejects animal cruelty hunting methods.
(Every thing has its time. The time for the hunt has expired)
The Swiss are one step ahead in animal welfare of other Europeans.
-Chicken batteries have been banned in Switzerland for 25 years!
-International transit transports are prohibited by Switzerland, and within the country applies a max. six hours transport duration.
-Switzerland abolished hobby hunting in Geneva in 1974.
I think that on the 29th of September the Swiss will decide for the right one again.
My best regards to all, Venus
