Florida: 750 million genetically modified insects are to be released. Humans as guinea pigs!

People will be shocked to learn that genetically modified mosquitoes can easily be released into the environment without proper supervision. They are not asked. The people in Africa are experiencing this.

Genetically modified (GM) “male-sterile” mosquitoes are tested here, financed by the European Commission.

The main sponsor is the Gates Foundation. Although the people of Florida have been protesting the genetically modified insects for years, the release of 750 million genetically modified mosquitoes has been approved.
The aim is to reduce the number of mosquitoes that transmit diseases such as dengue fever and the Zika virus. Particularly explosive is the fact that a study shows that the same GM mosquitoes have already been released in Brazil and that this did not affect the spread of dengue fever at all.
After the genetically modified mosquitoes come to the genetically modified cabbage moth.

Marathon, FL—The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District (FKMCD) yesterday approved the first-ever U.S. release of genetically engineered mosquitoes. Despite public outcry and the scientific dispute over the human health and environment risks posed by this field trial, the approval permits the release of 750 million GE mosquitoes over a two-year period in Monroe County, Florida, which may begin in 2021.

The Florida Keys Mosquito Control Board members have received more than 2,000 comments from Florida residents opposing the release of GE mosquitoes.

Despite encouragement from the public, the Board members also rejected the proposal for a referendum on November’s ballot, which would have asked Monroe County residents to vote on whether to accept or reject the GE mosquito trial. In 2016, voters in the proposed release site in Key Haven, Florida, voted to reject the GE mosquito trial.

Neither the FKMCD nor Oxitec* has publicly announced where or when the releases will occur. Documents submitted by Oxitec did not include details about an environmental impact statement (EIS).

“With all the urgent crises facing our nation and the State of Florida — the Covid-19 pandemic, racial injustice, climate change — the administration has used tax dollars and government resources for a Jurassic Park experiment. Now the Monroe County Mosquito Control District has given the final permission needed. What could possibly go wrong? We don’t know, because EPA unlawfully refused to seriously analyze environmental risks, now without further review of the risks, the experiment can proceed,” said Jaydee Hanson, Policy Director for the International Center for Technology Assessment and Center for Food Safety.

“The Mosquito Control Board has an obligation to our community, not a vendor that’s products are risky and untrustworthy. FKMCD wants to proceed with an experiment that may be damaging to public and environmental health and our local economy,” said Barry Wray, Executive Director of the Florida Keys Environmental Coalition. “We need true solutions to benefit our community and ecosystems.”

At Tuesday’s meeting, community members and national organizations critiqued Oxitec’s application for failing to address important environmental risks and potential negative health impacts. Community members asked the FKMCD to reject the field trial application, pointing out the lack of data demonstrating that Oxitec’s mosquitoes will be safe and effective, the likelihood that biting females will be released, thus putting humans and animals at risk, and the lack of free and prior informed consent of people living in the area.

“The release of genetically engineered mosquitoes will needlessly put Floridians, the environment, and endangered species at risk in the midst of a pandemic,” said Dana Perls, food and technology Program Manager at Friends of the Earth.

“This approval is about maximizing Oxitec’s profits, not about the pressing need to address mosquito-borne diseases.”

there is nothing humane in murder

I mean…the indifference of carnivores is because they are not the ones who are being tortured.
No other ability has human animal so highly developed as that of indifference.
Despite revolutions, enlightenment, human rights, culture, and science …
at this point, human animals have remained on the trees

Queensland: This is the story of “Beckie”

5,048 turtles have already been reported captured in Queensland’s shark defense system!
Since Queensland began using a shark defense system along the Australian coast, 5,048 turtles have been reported as trapped in these nets.
Of these, 419 turtles were confirmed dead.

The others, over 4,600, have been reported alive, but their injuries are unknown, and no information is known about whether or not they survived. Some turtles were repeatedly caught before dying from injuries in the nets.

This is the story of “Beckie”, an endangered loggerhead sea turtle that was saved by our crew. When we found her, she was already very exhausted and the hook was stuck in her side. We were able to get her for medical treatment on board immediately so that her injuries could be properly treated.
Fortunately, she was successfully rehabilitated and then released.

In Queensland, new laws that went into effect last year have severely limited the ability to monitor and be transparent about the shark control program.

The law forbids getting within 20 meters of the shark defense system, making rescues like “Beckie’s” less likely.
However, the public has a right to know what is really going on under the guise of so-called “beach safety”.

And I mean… The corruption of the government in Queensland, unfortunately, has a fatal effect not only on life in the ocean but on all animal welfare.

The number of koalas has plummeted from 100,000 to 40,000 animals within 5 years.
“Queensland is once again developing into a center of global nature destruction,” warns biologist April Reside.

The loosening of laws is partly to blame for the misery: Often no permits are required for clear-cutting and the destruction of nature. It is enough just to inform the authorities.

Landowners only need a state permit for larger clearings. Obviously, there is no effective monitoring of whether they adhere to them.
Effective nature conservation becomes almost impossible.

Queensland must learn to respect the life of ALL animals, Queensland must respect animal welfare laws and must stop exploiting nature and animals.

We have never been fans of Phil Hogan – he is pro live animal exports and as the ex Agriculture Commissioner at the EU; disregarded anything that the EU Parliament did with regard to amending live animal transport regulations.

Finland: Finnish Social Democrats take a historical stand against fur farming. Well Done Them !

Finnish Social Democrats take a historical stand against fur farming, Animalia and Justice for Animals rejoice

25 August 2020

We expect Sanna Marin’s Government to take the necessary steps to end fur farming. The next logical move would be to propose legislation to prohibit fur farming.

Finnish Social Democrats take a historical stand against fur farming,

In a historical vote, the Social Democratic party of Finland (SDP) committed to working towards ending fur farming and fur sales both in Finland and in the EU within a reasonable transition period. News on the decision broke on 24 August during the Social Democrats’ party congress, held in Tampere, Finland.

Finnish animal rights organizations Animalia and Justice for Animals thank the Social Democrats for their forward-thinking conclusion. The SDP is Finland’s largest party, and their newly confirmed party leader Sanna Marin is Finland’s current Prime Minister.

The ruling party’s decision comes at a time when the acceptability of fur farming is increasingly questioned both among EU citizens and in daily politics. Out of the five parties in Government, the Green Party and the Left Party are also officially against fur farming.

“74 % of Finnish citizens oppose current fur farming practices. For years, animal advocacy organizations have been working hard for a ban on fur farming in Finland. It is brilliant that Finland’s largest party has updated their position in line with the popular opinion.

The majority of the Government parties are now in favour of a fur farming ban. We expect Sanna Marin’s Government to take the necessary steps to end fur farming. The next logical move would be to propose legislation to prohibit fur farming”, Heidi Kivekäs, Executive Director of Animalia, comments.

Initiatives to ban fur farming have entered the parliamentary process in several European countries. Many countries have already introduced full bans, one of the latest being another Nordic country, Norway. A ban is highly possible in Finland now that three out of five Government parties are committed to ending fur farming for good.

“We are extremely pleased with SDP’s freshly formed stance. Animals need everyone for their defense, and an important new ally has now joined the ranks. There are politicians opposing fur farming among other parties too, even if there is no official party line yet. There is still a lot of work to be done so that this party position does not turn into an empty promise”, says Kristo Muurimaa of Justice for Animals.

Both Animalia and Justice for Animals are members of Fur Free Alliance (FFA), a European anti-fur organization. FFA have congratulated the Finnish organisations on this historical win.

Question of the day

1. The pharmaceutical industry cares about our health.
2. The pharmaceutical industry wants to earn billions.
3. The governments want to do a census of the world population.
4. Bill Gates only wants what’s best for us.
5. Someone wants to increase the death rate and reduce the world population.

Which answer is wrong?

France: Every summer, up to 120,000 pets are abandoned!!

The summer of 2020 looks quite a bit different than its predecessors.

As worldwide deaths from COVID-19 creep dangerously close to one million as of August 2020, this season is plagued by stress, fear, and doubt, when historically it is a time that people use to travel, relax, and take a break.

Unfortunately, in France, people are not only taking a break from slowing the spread of COVID-19 — lifts in lockdown have led to new cases soaring to about 3,000 per day — but they are taking a break from their pets. This isn’t even a new occurrence.
Every summer, up to 120,000 pets are abandoned in France.

Sign the petition and urge French lawmakers to pass legislation that would deter people from getting pets they cannot care for, and that would make it easier to find and prosecute those who abandon their animals!

https://www.thepetitionsite.com/de/451/426/486/tens-of-thousands-of-dogs-cats-and-other-sweet-pets-are-mercilessly-abandoned-in-france-every-year/

Tied to poles near busy streets.
Trapped in cardboard boxes, thrown on the curb in the dead of night. Wandering secluded areas, lost and hungry.
These are just a few of the descriptions of how animals in France are abandoned by their owners.

But why would someone do such horrendous things to animals they willingly brought into their homes in the first place?

Maybe they started seeing a new partner who doesn’t like dogs.
Maybe that kitten they thought was so tiny and cute grew into a bigger cat than they imagined.
They didn’t realize how much medical care for that puppy would be.
They bought that pet for their child, who grew up and decided they weren’t interested anymore.

Whatever the reason, each of these pets meets the same sad fate — surrendered to a shelter, or even worse, abandoned to hopefully be saved by a kind passerby before succumbing the hunger, harm, or the elements.

It’s been a national problem for quite some time, but one can only assume that the global pandemic will make it far worse. People are antsier than ever to get away, with one lockdown behind them and an inevitable second in their future.

But during the first lockdown, more people than ever adopted or fostered a pet — with unlimited time on their hands, and the need for a reassuring presence closeby, why not?

What these people may not have considered is that pets are commitments that last years, even decades, not a few months. Now, unwilling to sacrifice their already irresponsible travel plans, they are shirking their pet-owning responsibilities.

But a member of Parliament, Corinne Vignon, is working to bolster the rights of these pets by making pet-owning a serious, legal commitment.

Vignon owns multiple cats who all originally strayed, and this bill is very clearly coming from a place of care and compassion for abandoned animals.
The law would make tagging pets completely mandatory so that anonymously deserting a dog, cat, or another animal is basically impossible.
It would also increase the age at which one can obtain an animal, increasing the likelihood that those adopting pets know the magnitude of the responsibility, and are more likely financially able to provide for their animal.

This bill is an obvious win for animals in a country where owning and caring for a pet is simply not taken seriously enough.

Sign the petition today and ask that the French Parliament pass this bill!

Joaquin Phoenix Says ‘Reject Animal Cruelty And Go Vegan’

‘There’s so much pain in the world that we are powerless over, but being party to animal suffering is not one of them’

MARIA CHIORANDO

AUG 25, 2020

Joaquin Phoenix has launched a campaign calling on people to ‘reject animal cruelty … [and] explore the many benefits of being vegan’.

The Oscar-winning actor has partnered animal protection charity PETA to promote the ‘Change the World From Your Kitchen’ initiative.

Phoenix stars in a video created by PETA, featuring footage from both UK and US farms, which shows the conditions birds live in. The video shows animals packed into loud, dirty sheds.

https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/XsrZPPfwTag ‘Reject animal cruelty’

“We are not a society that believes it’s okay to abuse animals,’ he says in the video. “We intuitively recoil at the very thought of animal abuse because the suffering of an innocent being is too much to bear.

“Recent undercover footage exposes how the factory farming industry maligns our values and exploits our trust. These animals are in a living hell and under the guise of deceptive unregulated labels like cage-free and free-range consumers are led to believe that they are making a kinder choice.”They are not. There’s so much pain in the world that we are powerless over, but being party to animal suffering is not one of them. It’s easy to escape personal responsibility by actively avoiding the truth. But I hope you will join me in rejecting animal cruelty … [and] explore the many benefits of being vegan.”
