Germany-Thuringia: Free sausage for those who want to be vaccinated!

Thuringia: Yes! more people came to the grill-sausage campaign to vaccinate than usual. Unbelievable!!

A free grill-sausage as an effective vaccination incentive?

On Facebook it is claimed that in Thuringia such an action increased the number of people willing to be vaccinated from 140 to 250. That’s right! more people came than on average on other days.

In Sonneberg, Thuringia, an average of 140 people were vaccinated every day. On the first day when there were free sausages as a vaccination incentive, the number rose to 250.

“Grill-sauge ensures a rush of vaccinations in Thuringia.
Instead of 140, suddenly 250 people were vaccinated because there was a “bratwurst” for free. “

This statement has been spread on Facebook since the beginning of August, along with a picture of people at a bratwurst stand and shared almost 1,000 times. The user shares his horror:

“My belief in humanity is forever destroyed”.

https://correctiv.org/faktencheck/2021/08/06/thueringen-ja-zu-bratwurst-aktion-kamen-mehr-menschen-zum-impfen-als-sonst/

And I mean…What was not in the conversation to get people to vaccinate: bonuses, money, vouchers…. A real bid competition started.
But then it became clear in Thuringia that it didn’t need to think too much.
As a lure, the grill sausage drew the best card: fresh from the grill directly after vaccination!!

And the number of customers doubles immediately.

The action will continue on Friday. The vaccine is administered by Biontech / Pfizer.
According to the city, there are 70 registrations for this.
The grill is also restarted.

Not even the pharmaceutical industry came up with the deal: grilled sausage against corona vaccination.
The city of Thuringia should demand a commission from Biontech / Pfizer

Good news from Thailand: the Sriracha Tiger Zoo is closing its doors!

Report: Organisation “Gemeinsam für die Tiere”

THE SRIRACHA TIGER ZOO / THAILAND WILL BE CLOSED IN THE EVENT OF CORONA-RELATED FAILURES! 💖🐅

The Sriracha Tiger Zoo is a world famous tourist attraction in Thailand, near Pattaya.
Not only the eponymous tigers, but also elephants, crocodiles and camels, for example, are held there, a total of around 5,000 animals.

Often the zoo was caught in the crossfire between animal rights activists and the judiciary because of animal cruelty and catastrophic conditions.

Now finally after 24 years this questionable attraction has to close its doors because the visitors are missing because of the pandemic.

We reported about it: https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2021/07/17/animal-cruelty-in-sriracha-tiger-zoo-takes-a-break/

After months of unsuccessful attempts, the zoo was no longer able to keep operations going.

The “Pattaya Mail” announced this to the public on July 15, 2021.
The zoo, founded in 1997 by a former pig and crocodile breeder, was visited by around 1.5 million tourists a year, mainly.

Chinese, Russians, Indians, Vietnamese and Indonesians, relatively few Europeans.
Since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the zoo management has tried to keep the zoo alive by selling “street food”, which in Asia often does not meet adequate hygiene standards, and sometimes free entry, which now completely failed.
One less prison where innocent animals are locked up.

In 2004 the “Animal Welfare Institute” discovered that animals from the zoo were abused as circus animals and subjected to tough and brutal training.
This concerned tigers and elephants.

In 2016, a British animal rights organization managed to bring further abuses to the public.
The tigers were, or still are, in a grave condition.

After the birth of young tigers, it was customary in this zoo to separate the babies from their mothers after 2-3 weeks – much too early!

Now the animals are first relocated to a large area and given veterinary care.

We welcome the closure of this scandalous zoo.
Countless animals were held captive there, deprived of their freedom, and unfortunately not adequately and caringly cared for.
The only question is “what happens to the poor animals now?”

Here we hope that they do not end up as part of any mixture or powder of “Traditional Chinese Medicine”, as is unfortunately the case in parts of Asia.
Temporary accommodation in a reserve would be the most sensible solution.

Subsequently, it should be clarified whether and which animals could possibly be released safely into the wild.
We appeal to the Thai government to intervene here and to give the animals that have been through the “prison hell” a better future.

THEY DESERVED IT!!!

And I mean…Corona has shown very solidarity with the inmates in this case, and has contributed that stupid, extremely stupid visitors do what their lesser empathy and education could not do, namely no longer support this place of horror.

We can see from the video that a whole industry has grown up around the Sriracha Zoo; for the fun of the stupid visitors and for the torment of the animals that were brutally forced to do so.

If we haven’t got it for hundreds of years, we should finally get it NOW! that animals are not our slaves, are not clowns of entertainment, they have their right to live in peace on this planet as roommates.
Or should we just keep doing it because we used to do it this way? NO … we evolve.

Thank you Corona!
As soon as we have news about the further fate of the ex-prisoners of the Sriracha Zoo, we will share it with you immediately

9/8/21: Elbeik Fire Update and Videos.

WAV Comment – 9/8/1 – from what we know, the Elbeik was on fire for around 24 hours.  Very fortunately, there were no animals on board.  Hopefully the vessel has now met its demise, considering it is around 54 years old. It should have been scrapped years ago, along with the animal transportation business it supports. Karma.

An infamous livestock carrier has met a fiery end off Spain. The Togo-flagged Elbeik caught fire off Tarragona port on Friday afternoon.

All crew were evacuated from the burning ship and many firefighters were deployed to help put the blaze out. After 24 hours the fire on the 54-year-old vessel was extinguished. It is thought the blaze started in a lifeboat and quickly spread with the vessel widely tipped to be a total loss. Fortunately, there were no animals onboard – the ship had been waiting to take on its next shipment of livestock.

The 1967-built ship made headlines last December when 1,800 cattle onboard had to be put down after a horrendously long journey.

Why Heathy Animals Lead To Healthy Consumers In Europe.

WAV Comment – we are reproducing an article from Euronews, which deals with animal husbandry and consumer acceptance within the EU.

Why Heathy Animals Lead To Healthy Consumers In Europe

Dr Sabine Schüller, Executive Director of the German Animal Health Industry Association, Bonn, gives us her take on the importance of animal health in Europe.

The treatment of farm animals has become so important to European consumers that in countries like Germany, more than 80 per cent want a state label to guarantee their meat, milk and eggs has come from livestock kept in the best conditions.

Discussions about how best to meet consumer demand for animal welfare standards beyond the existing private sector programme remain ongoing, but where Germany leads, the rest of the EU could follow. Member States are already discussing animal welfare, and looking at Germany’s programme as the model.

Yet the public does not always realise the full extent to which animal health is a prerequisite for animal welfare.

For example, a recent survey found that almost two-thirds of consumers across Europe were concerned about residues from veterinary medicines getting into their food, despite 99 per cent compliance with strict safety levels set by the European Food Safety Authority.

The truth is, there is no animal welfare without good animal health, and this means understanding – and investing in – the crucial role of animal medicines.

The role of animal medicine

National and EU authorities must support welfare standards by reinforcing measures to maintain high standards of animal health as a solid basis for animal wellbeing, while also promoting greater awareness of the importance of animal health among consumers.

Firstly, governments must secure more support at an EU level for research and development into animal health, including vaccination, to tackle new and emerging threats, and build confidence in animal health and welfare.

Vaccine development has been a fundamental success story in preventing and controlling infectious disease in farm animals, including, for example, the suppression of the Schmallenberg virus after it first emerged in cattle and sheep in 2011 by breaking the cycle of transmission right after the first onset.

Alongside a fast-track vaccine development and approval process, preparedness by all levels involved for a swift response in case of an outbreak is indispensable.

However, more research is clearly needed, as demonstrated by recent outbreaks in Europe of African Swine Fever (ASF) in wild boar and domestic pigs. For instance, after identifying its first case in 2014, Poland witnessed outbreaks of ASF on more than 340 farms, with 2020 a record year for the incidence of the disease. Without a vaccine, this painful illness can have devastating impacts on animal welfare and even lead to culling to prevent the spread of disease.

Secondly, it is equally important to raise awareness among consumers that animal welfare is not only about husbandry or production systems, but is also about wider access to and availability of vaccinations and other vital medicines for animals.

More than 60 per cent of European consumers surveyed recognised that medicines positively impact animal welfare.

More than 60 per cent of European consumers surveyed recognised that medicines positively impact animal welfare, but this figure needs to be increased and extended to all animal health tools, from vaccination and nutrition to hygiene and biosecurity measures as well as early detection and diagnosis, all of which contribute to better animal welfare.

Healthy animals lead to healthy humans

Vaccines are especially efficient in protecting animal health and welfare, and reducing the need for treatment with medicines. These tools not only prevent disease in animals, sparing livestock from distress and suffering, but they also prevent the spread of diseases to people.

This is precisely why Europe has not seen a major zoonotic disease emerge from livestock since Q Fever in 2010.

Finally, we must also build confidence among consumers that animal medicines, and especially antibiotics, are only used in livestock when deemed necessary by a veterinarian.

Antibiotics have been banned as growth promoters in animal feed in the EU since 2006, yet concerns about their improper use persist among many consumers. Ensuring a greater awareness of the existing safety protocols in place for animal medicines would help address these misconceptions and reassure consumers about current efforts to protect animal wellbeing.

For all its evocative associations, animal welfare is not just an emotional or psychological state of being; it is predicated on the physical wellbeing of an animal.

Improving animal health not only brings the benefit of higher standards of animal welfare, but it also greatly benefits us as consumers, making our entire food systems healthier and more sustainable from farm to fork.

UK: Petition For UK Residents Only. Tell The Government To End The Cage Age For British Animals.

Now the UK has left the EU though Brexit, it can make its own legislation on all issues.

The EU intends to stop caged animal farming by 2027; and so now the UK government needs to step up to the plate and at least match this.  We need to let the government know how we feel – please sign the petition.

Important Note – once you have completed the required information, and sent, you will then get a return e mail from the government.  For your signature to be added to the petition, you need to click on the link they provide.  This is to stop fraud and multiple submissions from the same source being submitted.

36,225 signatures at current time – we need to add to this.

Petition is for UK residents only.

Petition wording:

End the Cage Age for all farmed animals

Every year across the UK, millions of farmed animals are kept in cages, unable to express their natural behaviours and experiencing huge suffering. These inhumane systems cannot be the future of British farming. The UK Government must legislate to ‘End the Cage Age’ for all farmed animals.

More details

The European Commission plans to ban cages for all farmed animals, potentially by 2027, and will also look to prohibit the import of food from caged systems. This would result in the UK lagging behind the EU and may add bureaucracy to trade with the UK’s largest export market – possibly damaging the whole British farming sector.
The UK Government must work to secure by 2027, across the UK, a ban on the use of:
-barren, enriched and ‘combi’ cages
-farrowing crates for sows
-individual calf pens

From the ‘Metro’, London.

A Labrador stranded in the Peak District has been brought to safety by ‘heroic’ emergency mountain rescue workers.

The 11-year-old dog, named Jess, became unwell during a visit to Fox Hagg Nature Reserve, in the Rivelin Valley of Sheffield.

The difficult terrain meant walker Amyleigh Watts was unable to carry Jess back to the road.

But they made it thanks to the help of Edale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT), called out via South Yorkshire Police around 1.14pm on Thursday.

The kind-hearted crew wrapped the brown Labrador in blankets and carried her back to the car park.

Edale MRT shared the incident on Facebook, saying: ‘A call from South Yorkshire Police to the Fox Hagg area above Rivelin Reservoir.

‘Due to her location and weight, Jess’s walker was unable to carry her back to the road.

‘We were more than happy to assist and a posse of team members were soon on their way to meet up with Jess.

‘After some soothing words from the team’s wannabe Dr Dolittle, Jess was wrapped in a casualty bag and strapped onto a stretcher before being carried out back to the road.’

Ms Watts thanked the team for their assistance, describing their efforts as ‘heroic’.

She said: ‘(Jess) is absolutely fine now, and is having a well-deserved rest on her electric blanket.

‘I’m still recovering, however. You are all heroes, thanks so so so so so much.’

Jess’s owner, Jen, posted on Facebook: ‘Thank you so much Edale Mountain Rescue Team for helping Amyleigh Watts.

‘Jess is my little girl and she is getting old now. She just likes to keep us on our toes.’

Other Facebook users praised the crew for their ‘incredible’ and ‘amazing’ work.

Austria: Mickey and Jackie, the pigs from the animal factory freed again!

Update: Mickey and Jackie, whom the police evacuated and whom the owner of the pig factory absolutely did not want to sell, are now safe after all!

We reported about it: https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2021/08/06/austria-peaceful-animal-rights-activists-brutally-beaten/

As a reminder: First, last Thursday, they were freed from the largest pig fattening area in Burgenland (Austria) by strangers and taken over by animal rights activists who built them an outdoor enclosure.

People and pigs were together for 12 hours, the siblings were called Mickey and Jackie.

After the older managing director of the company had given the pigs to the Association against animal factories (VGT) and the latter wanted to have them picked up, the younger managing director apparently thwarted his plans at the urging of the Chamber of Agriculture.

Even a price of 3,000 euros could not soften him, instead he had the police forcefully evacuate the animal rights activists who had rallied around the pigs.
Then Mickey and Jackie were loaded up and taken to the slaughterhouse.
Goodbye, thought so many people who had suffered with the pigs.

But now the VGT has received very good news: the two pigs were again freed by strangers on Friday morning.

The two pigs Mickey and Jackie were simply left in the animal transport trailer overnight by the operator of the pig factory and had to wait for their death in a hall.

Photos show that they apparently stayed overnight in the tractor’s transport trailer, which was parked in a hall.
There he was found by strangers who took the two pigs away and brought them to safety.

Rescued again: Mickey and Jackie are now in an unknown location, safe from the authorities and the cells of the pig industry.

This is probably unique in the history of animal rights activism in Austria: two pigs that have been freed twice from the clutches of the animal industry.

The Chamber of Agriculture and the operator of the pig factory are now empty-handed. The Association against animal factories (VGT) has nothing to do with either exemption, the photos were only leaked to it.

The VGT is a media company and therefore does not have to name the sources from where it gets its information. On the other hand, the VGT is the legal owner of the two pigs, since they were given to him.

The pigs are now in an unknown location.

https://vgt.at/presse/news/2021/news20210807fg.php

And I mean…VGT chairman Martin Balluch is overjoyed: “Many thanks to the people who brought about this rescue. They are the real heroes of this story”!
Yes! Respect and thanks to the activists, we are also overjoyed!
We come back to the times of the ALF’s liberation actions.

Of course, the liberation of Mickey and Jackie is a symbol of the misery of all other captured pigs.
And a warning to the meat industry and its lobbyists: we are here and we are fighting with system and determination against the exploitation and slavery of animals.

The end of bird trapping in France?

Committee against Bird Murder e.V.-Report

Just a few months ago, the French Supreme Court banned the use of liming rods, which were still allowed in Provence despite the ban by the EU bird protection directive.

In June the court upheld the verdict in the second instance – catching birds with limesticks is finally over.
Now the same court has followed up and has made a truly unbelievable decision: the judges have classified all bird trapping permits in the country as non-EU-compliant and banned them.

This applies to the brutal stone crush traps in the Massif Central as well as the horsehair snares in the Ardennes, as well as the nets for lapwing in the Champagne and skylark in the Bay of Biscay.

For all of these fishing methods, which have been banned throughout the EU for decades, France had issued generous exemptions.

Now these “old hunting traditions” are facing their final end.

It is still too early to celebrate, however, because it remains to be seen how the government in Paris will deal with the ruling by the Supreme Court.
It is now up to President Macron whether he finally takes migratory bird protection seriously or kneels in front of the hunting lobby.

So far, bird trapping permits have always been renewed in early autumn. So the next few weeks will be crucial.

Time enough to put the champagne in the cold!

https://www.facebook.com/Komitee.CABS/

And I mean…French President Macron is seen as a proponent of hunting.
1.1 million hunters are registered in France. Just for comparison: The German Hunting Association currently has 383,828 hunting licenses.

Macron’s bows to the hunters are sometimes tangible, sometimes symbolic.
For example, he halved the price of the hunting license from 400 to 200 euros.

But Emmanuel Macron’s throne is wobbling at the moment.
The “yellow vest” movement, the massive protests in the country with 200,000 protesters against Green Pass are not good indicators for his re-election.
Therefore Macron should not think about the hunters at all, but about the majority of the population of France who are against hunting, and thus he has to protect the people’s desire for animal welfare and not serve a specific clientele or lobby.

Sea Shepherd: eleven ghost nets in just four weeks destroyed!

Campaign start a complete success: eleven ghost nets in just four weeks

A Sea Shepherd report

The BALTIC SEA CAMPAIGN 2021 started with great success.

During the first four weeks of the campaign on Fehmarn and Rügen (which are among the largest islands in Germany), eleven ghost nets with a salvage weight of more than 900 kilograms and hundreds of fishing lures were recovered from the Baltic Sea. These nets, fish hooks and lines will no longer kill marine animals.

The team spent the first two weeks of the campaign on the island of Fehmarn.

Patrols were carried out almost every day to locate possible ghost nets and finally to lift them. Because even though ghost nets are obviously causing massive damage, finding them and removing them from the ocean is a major challenge.

It takes a lot of preparation, the use of technical equipment and ultimately perseverance as well as great efforts on the part of the crew to eliminate such death traps.

With combined forces, the net is pulled on board. Photo: Robert May / Sea Shepherd

More than 200 kilograms of ghost net

The largest ghost network on Fehmarn was recovered in the lake area in the direction of Puttgarden (District of the island of Fehmarn)
On June 14th, volunteers aboard the EMANUEL BRONNER examined some gillnets that had been deployed in the area.
Gillnets are often used near wrecks to catch cod that find shelter there.

With the help of the underwater robot and a structure scan, the area was examined more closely and various wrecks found.
So the diving team decided to do an exploration dive.
At a depth of 24 meters, the team discovered a massive trawl net about 40 meters long that had become entangled in a wreck.
There were many dead marine animals in the net, including cod in particular, but also starfish and crabs.
What was particularly treacherous about this net were the torn openings through which more and more fish got into the net.
But not all marine animals found their way out again.
“The net was like a prison under water,” explained mission diver Antonia Kirner (Sea Shepherd Germany) after her exploratory dive.
