England: Horses Bring London Orbital Motorway To A Stop – But Animals Rounded Up; No Killing Involved.

England

Pictures: horses bring M25 to a standstill

WAV Comment – For those of you who are NOT in the UK; the M25 is the orbital motorway which circumnavigates London town.  A very busy road all of the time.  All the horses were eventually rounded up and moved to a safe location.  No killings and shootings of the animals by the police as we may see in other EU nations.  A bit of disruption, but expect many commuters were pleased to have some different cabaret on their morning commute.

Drivers were brought to a standstill on the M25 this morning, after a group of horses got loose on the carriageway in Hertfordshire.

Astonished commuters snapped these pictures, as police chased the animals to get them out of the road.

Australia: Good News Re Aus Live Exports – it is now a matter of when, not if, live export will end.

Australia

Dear Mark,

Scathing. That’s the best way to describe the independent assessment of the regulation of Australia’s live export trade.

In his review, released today, Philip Moss found that evidence of cruelty has been dismissed, ignored and even, at times, covered-up by the officials responsible for holding the live export industry to account.

Of course, this isn’t news to us, Mark. The Department of Agriculture had neither the expertise, nor the political support, to hold to account an industry with a cultural acceptance of cruelty and law-breaking.

It’s somewhat of a relief to finally have the truth on the public record. To have Animals Australia’s role as industry watchdog formally acknowledged; to have validated the efforts of whistle-blowers and investigators who’ve risked their lives to expose what this industry does to animals; and to have the calls for help that have fallen on deaf ears for decades condemned in the strongest possible terms.

The government has accepted all recommendations in the Moss Review, knowing anything less would fuel further public outrage. What the Morrison government fails to understand though is that there’s no redemption for this industry — and nothing less than a decision to end the trade will be embraced by Australians.

That’s where our focus remains, and as the Sydney Morning Herald printed today:

“If Labor is elected it looks set to end the industry. The now Agriculture Minister David Littleproud is trying to save the industry, but it is now a matter of when not if [live export will end].”
Mark, I’ve stood in some of the most brutal slaughterhouses on the planet, witnessing first-hand the horrors Australia’s live export industry is responsible for. Step by step we have exposed this industry, and called those responsible for inflicting dreadful suffering to account. Every additional layer of regulation, scrutiny and accountability that has resulted from our work will contribute to its inevitable demise.

But for today, I’m thinking about dear Fazal, who risked his life and sacrificed his career to expose the suffering that sparked this review. I’m thinking about the countless animals who’ve suffered so egregiously, and who have been so let down by those whose job it was to protect them. And I’m thinking about you, Mark. Your kindness and generosity is the reason we are able to be a voice for these animals. And, because of your unwavering support… we are being heard.

In gratitude, always,

England: (London) Spooky Halloween Petition of Over 1 Million Signatures Handed To Government Demanding Stop To Live Animal Exports.

England

On Monday, the streets of London were truly haunted by the horror of UK live exports. As darkness fell, over 1 million petition signatures collected by Compassion in World Farming, 30 Degrees, Avaaz and SumOfUs were delivered to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, urging the Secretary of State to #StopLiveTransport.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who signed the petitions, joined the #StopLiveTransport Day of Action in June, and helped rally so many citizens against the cruelty of live exports.

On your behalf, our ‘zombie’ Hallowe’en sheep and calves formed a spooky parade to hand in the signatures to Defra. They represented all the British animals who have died during the horror of long distance transport. Check out the full story here.
In total, in 2017, tens of thousands of sheep and young calves were exported from the UK to continental Europe. Many exported animals endure over-crowded journeys without enough food or space to move. Those that survive may then be fattened in barren conditions illegal in the UK, or subjected to inhumane slaughter.

This is why the government must take action to ban exports for slaughter and fattening, and why the 1 million petition signatures are so important. Thank you again to everyone who added their voice.

This week, the streets between DEFRA and Parliament were truly haunted when we joined forces with, 38 Degrees, Avaaz and SumOfUs, to deliver over one million petition signatures to DEFRA, urging the Minister for the Environment, Michael Gove, to #StopLiveTransport

Last May, the government pledged to take action on live exports but nothing has happened. This Halloween, a spooky parade of ‘zombie sheep and calves’ marched to DEFRA’s offices in London to hand in the signatures. These ‘zombie animals’ represent those who have died during transport, coming back from the dead to haunt DEFRA, to remind them of their promise to end live exports.

In 2017, tens of thousands of sheep and young calves were exported from the UK to continental Europe on long journeys that result in immense suffering. Many of these animals are kept in over-crowded conditions without enough food, water, or space to move, and often face an inhumane slaughter at their final destination.

“The true horror of live transport is absolutely shocking,” explained Downton Abbey actor and Compassion Patron, Peter Egan who participated in the event and has actively supported the campaign. “It’s appalling that we allow such cruelty to continue.”

A chilling reminder

Growing public pressure

Nick Palmer, our Head of Compassion in World Farming UK, said: “This delivery of over one million signatures, highlights growing public pressure to end this barbaric practice. The live transport of animals on long, exhausting journeys, in horrendous conditions is not acceptable.

“It’s time for the UK government to enforce a UK-wide ban on live exports for slaughter and further fattening.”

Take action

You may have seen the news that unweaned Scottish calves are now being trucked to Kent for export. In the face of this appalling trade, we must keep up the pressure from every angle. Please email Michael Gove, Defra Secretary of State, today.

SIGN: Justice for Kitten Cruelly Glued by the Paws to Busy Road

PETITION TARGET: Marion County Sheriff’s Office

In a twisted act of cruelty, a five-week-old kitten was glued by her paws to a busy road in Portland, Oregon last week.

Unable to move while vehicles roared by across the busy intersection, the tiny tabby kitten cowered in terror; she was wet, cold, and only inches away from death until, finally, someone stopped to help.

Local resident Chuck Hawley spotted the kitten at around 7 am as cars swerved around her. When he bent to pick her up, he discovered her feet were firmly glued to the road with some kind of rubber cement. The glue was also stuck to her neck and tail.

After gently prying her off the pavement, he took her to a vet clinic, where staff confirmed that this was no accident; someone had done this on purpose. The kitten — named Sticky by rescuers — also had puncture wounds on her neck from unknown causes.

While Sticky is lucky to be alive after such a traumatic experience, whoever glued this innocent kitten to the road needs to be found quickly and prevented from hurting any other animals.

Sign this petition urging the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to find the person responsible for this vicious criminal act and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

WAV Comment – Well done Chuck – respect !

8 Rhino Poachers Nabbed in A Single Day in South Africa

Posted by Carly Day | October 29, 2018

As efforts to curb poaching in South Africa’s Kruger National Park (KNP) continue, the reserve announced that they had arrested an impressive eight suspected poachers in just a single day last week.

The poachers were apprehended in different areas of the park, and all were found with a variety of equipment related to poaching, including hunting rifles and ammunition.

“KNP continues to experience a number of incursions and many other poaching-related activities on a daily basis,” said Glenn Phillips, managing executive director of KNP. “Our dedicated and committed anti-poaching teams, who are our ears and eyes in the bush, are always out there to quickly respond.”

This latest host of arrests follows positive news from last month, as figures released by the department of environmental affairs (DEA)  revealed both a decline in the number of rhinos poached over the first eight months of the year and an increase in prosecutions for poaching and trafficking.

Throughout the various provinces, 508 rhinos were slaughtered in the first eight months of the year. Although this number is still shockingly high, it’s a considerable drop when compared to 691 killed in the same time period in 2017.

In KNP itself, 292 were poached during these months, compared to 333 last year.

Just as important as the lives saved is the ability to prosecute and sentence for these crimes; fortunately, the legal system is also demonstrating progress.

“From January to August 2018 a total of 70 cases‚ involving 163 accused were finalized. The trials have resulted in 93% guilty verdicts‚ translating to 288 years in sentencing‚” reported DEA spokesperson Albi Modise, referring to KNP.

Although these numbers give hope to the continuing battle to save species like the rhinoceros and elephant in South Africa, rhino populations in the park are dropping.

“White rhino numbers in the park, however‚ continued to decline‚ with the population estimated at between 4‚759 and 5‚532 individuals during 2017. White rhinos‚ unlike black rhinos‚ were affected by the drought – with natural mortalities increasing from 1% to 1.5% during the drought‚ while the birth rate dropped from approximately 9% to 5% one year after the drought.”

Clearly, rhinos still walk the fine line between survival and extinction, but the people who fight to save every individual animal are not giving up.

“Wildlife crime should not be tolerated and needs to be stopped. We call upon poachers to weigh the risks of getting caught and we assure them that the gap is closing in on them,” says Phillips.

Scotland Reviews Hunting Laws After Viral Posts from American Hunter

Scotland has pledged to review its hunting laws amid massive public outcry after an American hunter slaughtered some of the nation’s iconic wildlife and posted trophy photos on social media.

Hunter Larysa Switlyk hosts a hunting show called ‘Larysa Unleashed’ on Canadian television and has more than 79,000 followers on Instagram. The trophy hunter visited Scotland over a month ago, following up her trip by posting a handful of photos where she poses with the animals she has murdered with high-powered firearms.

One of the photos shows the woman smiling beside a dead Royal Scottish stag, with the caption “can’t wait to bring it back to the castle for the chefs to cook it up!”

She also posed with the corpses of a wild goat and ram, describing the experience as a “fun hunt.”

Although hunting these animals is legal in the UK, the ensuing public backlash has reached as far as the Scottish government, with many politicians vowing to reconsider the hunting laws.

“We fully understand why so many people find these images of hunted animals being held up as trophies so upsetting,” said Roseanna Cunningham, cabinet secretary for environment, climate change, and land reform in Scotland. “…we understand the concerns raised by these images and, in light of them, the Environment Secretary will review the situation and consider whether any clarification of or changes to the law might be required.”

Switlyk’s social media accounts have blown up, with thousands of users now attacking the self-proclaimed huntress, who says she is even receiving death threats.

If there is one good thing to come from the murder of these innocent animals, it’s that the issue of trophy hunting is now at the forefront of media and political agendas in Scotland. Here’s hoping this cold-hearted killer has triggered a change that will eventually see trophy hunting banned in the nation.

“Yet again, instead of celebrating Scotland’s magnificent wildlife, we are seeing these beautiful animals exploited in the name of sport,” said Moyes. “This is not the kind of tourism we should be encouraging in Scotland, let alone allowing to happen in the 21st century.”

WAV Comment:

We call it ‘Karma’ – a trophy hunter, by trying to impress her media followers  with the big ‘I am’ attitude has now actually drawn the Scottish government to review hunting laws to keep scum like her away from the nation.  British (ie Scottish) folk will be sickened by the photos of the kills, as per those above; and they will not just sit back and accept the status quo.  Another example of how trophy hunters are doing nothing more than shooting themselves in the foot – and at the same time alerting the public to their sick and disgusting view of wildlife.

Media Manipulation!

zirkus_tiger

A four-year-old child is attacked by an enslaved, tortured, humbled circus-animal.  It was injured in the face and taken to the hospital.

The child is brought into the circus by its stupid mother, and because that sits on the first page, it wants to praise the slave with a flag salute.

The animal was not taken to prison voluntarily, and its mother did not bring it there itself.
With an iron collar around his neck, with all his psychic and physical powers at the end, the animal tries to deliver a ridiculous show to a stupid audience, a show which only brings something to the criminal circus director, namely money!  And to stupid ignorants, a stupid entertainment!

And then “suddenly” it happens.

The case was immediately from all media described as a tragedy, for the human side of course.
And so satisfy the greed of the readers for sensational news with a horror scenario that lives exclusively from a “brutal”  “unpredictable”  Tiger. But if the slaves stay good and docile and no “accidents” happen, we do not even want to know what the tiger in his cell is suffering from a criminal trainer.

Edgard Zapashny, director of Big Moscow state circus and also an animal tormentor by profession, says : “I firmly believe that the blame lies completely with the owner and director of that traveling circus, the lioness’s trainer, and on the adult who came with the child and let go of her while being in the front row.”

What, in other words, would be so to interpete:
If a slave-keeper is unable to control his inmates, and a stupid mother puts a child in the front row to greet the slaves with flags, then such accidents happen.

Only that was the cause!
Otherwise, the circus has always worked well. With ander words, the slaves have always entertained all the stupid circus visitors well, and no animal came up with the idea to lift his head and to punish all those who pay for his torment with the same way.

And so the media manage to sell a spectacle once again. Everyone shudders for the innocent child. And because the innocent person is human, the equally innocent tiger is the culprit. And all the real motives that led him to action are intentionally concealed.

Nobody talks about the hell, that experiences this animal every day. Which, however, increases the propability of becoming aggressive and vengeful. With gut reason!

From this point of view, I am surprised that such attacks do not happen every day. Not only the circus slaves, but all the animals we exploit, torment and enslave would have the right to avenge the human plague.

There is even a random video that will make this event better for sale!

The Report

Video shows: The girl was sitting in the front row behind a fence when the lioness suddenly jumped on the little child.

A circus lioness bit a four-year-old girl during a performance in southern Russia. It was injured in the face and taken to the hospital. According to Russian media reports Monday morning, the authorities described the child’s health status as stable. It had been operated after the incident on Sunday in the Krasnodar region of the Caucasus.

In a video, which was supposed to have been taken by viewers and was distributed by local media, you can see how the animal breaks away from its trainer and rushes to the child. Spectators helped the girl.

The circus director was arrested.
