URGENT: closing SUNDAY. Kangaroos are being shot and injured, and joeys decapitated, bludgeoned or left to suffer and die — all so these unique native animals can be sold as meat or skins. Now’s your chance to speak out against kangaroo shooting cruelty:

Scotland / Norway: Rich Trophy Hunters Can Go To Norway and Shoot Rudolph At Christmas In A ‘Magical Experience’ !

Rich trophy hunters pay to shoot reindeer in wild – say it’s ‘magical’ experience

Norway trophy 1.jpg

Rich trophy hunters are paying to shoot reindeer in the wild.

Brits are being offered the chance to join a trip where they can stalk and kill real-life Rudolphs in a national park.

The animals being targeted by trophy hunters belong to the last surviving population of wild reindeer in Europe and roam in two of Norway’s largest national parks.

The shooting trips are being run by Hendry, Ramsay and Waters, which describes itself as “Scotland’s Premier Sporting Agency”.

On its website is a photo of two men pictured next to the carcass of a large reindeer.

The agency boasts: “We have full exclusivity in both the Brehei-men and Jotunhei-men national parks, which hold Europe’s last-surviving population of wild reindeer, which have been hunted here since the Ice Age.

“The Jotunheimen national park reopens this year after being closed to all hunting for the past eight years, so this untouched territory will really be worth a visit.”

But Nick Weston, from the League Against Cruel Sports, said: “It’s hardly in the spirit of Christmas to shoot Rudolph, is it?

“There is no justification for shooting animals for fun at any time of the year, but to celebrate Christmas by killing Santa’s reindeer doesn’t really keep with the season of goodwill.

“When will we learn that animals are not commodities and give them the gift of life instead of needlessly
killing them?”

USA: Massachusetts outlaws destructive wildlife killing contests.

UNST0001.gif

For Immediate Release: December 18, 2019

Massachusetts outlaws destructive
wildlife killing contests

Regulation abolishes competitive killing of wild animals for prizes and entertainment

Boston, MA – A coalition of leading wildlife protection organizations is applauding MassWildlife staff and the Massachusetts Fisheries and Wildlife Board for their vote today to ban wildlife killing contests in the Commonwealth.

The vote will bring an end to events like the ones recently held on Cape Cod and in Granby, in which participants competed to kill the largest, smallest, or the greatest number of animals for cash and prizes. Winners of wildlife killing contests often proudly post photos and videos on social media that show them posing with piles of dead animals, often before disposing of the animals in “carcass dumps” away from the public eye. When proposing this ban in July 2019, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife noted growing outrage in Massachusetts about these cruel and unethical contests.

“Upon learning about these unsporting contests, Massachusetts citizens made it clear that they would not tolerate these killing competitions in their state, contacting MassWildlife by the hundreds to voice their opposition,” said Elizabeth Magner, Ph.D., animal advocacy specialist for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA). “The MSPCA is grateful that MassWildlife staff and the Fisheries and Wildlife Board treated this matter with the seriousness that it warrants, and for positioning Massachusetts as a national leader on this issue.”

“Wildlife killing contests are a bloodsport just like dogfighting and cockfighting, which have been outlawed nationwide” said Katie Stennes, programs and communications manager for Project Coyote. “We commend the Massachusetts Fisheries and Wildlife Board for relegating these ecologically and ethically indefensible events to the history books.”

“Wild animals play an important role in their ecosystem and our environment,” said Stephanie Harris, senior legislative affairs manager for the Animal Legal Defense Fund. “The forward-thinking, science-based regulations adopted by MassWildlife and the Fisheries and Wildlife Board to prohibit senseless killing contests and wanton waste are among the nation’s strongest.

“Participants of wildlife killing contests often use unsporting and cruel techniques –  such as calling devices that mimic the sound of prey or even pups in distress – so that they can lure shy coyotes and foxes to shoot at close range,” said Laura Hagen, Massachusetts state director for the Humane Society of the United States. “We thank MassWildlife for taking decisive action to ensure that the Commonwealth no longer supports such barbaric and wasteful killing of its treasured wildlife.”

Wildlife agencies and professionals across the country have expressed concerns about killing contests not only because they reflect badly on responsible sportsmen and sportswomen, but because they also contravene modern, science-based wildlife management principles. In 2018, more than 70 renowned conservation scientists issued a statement citing peer-reviewed science that refutes claims that indiscriminately killing coyotes permanently limits coyote populations, increases the number of deer or other game species for hunters, or reduces conflicts with humans, pets or livestock. In fact, by disrupting coyote pack structure, randomly shooting coyotes may increase their populations and lead to more conflicts. Nonlethal, preventive measures are most effective at reducing conflicts with wildlife.

Wildlife killing contests are also destructive to healthy ecosystems, within which all wildlife species play a crucial role. Coyotes and foxes in particular provide a range of ecosystem benefits, including controlling rabbit and rodent populations and restricting rodent- and tick-borne disease transmission.

In just the past five years, California, Vermont, New Mexico and Arizona have taken a stand against cruel, unsporting and wasteful wildlife killing contests. California banned the awarding of prizes for killing furbearing and nongame mammals in 2014; New Mexico and Vermont outlawed coyote killing contests in 2019 and 2018, respectively; and Arizona prohibited the events for predatory and furbearing species this year.

“Better naked than fur”!

Do you remember the documentation of the organization of the German Animal Welfare Office?
The animal rights activists have documented the conditions on the Polish farms in recent weeks and found wild animals in cages everywhere. We had reported about that (https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2019/11/16/poland-mecca-of-the-fur-industry/).

Now they had a great idea to continue this campaign to the public!

Germany, Cologne: Animal rights activists from the organization (German animal protection office) fight against real fur clothing.

Draw blank for animal welfare!
On Wednesday, four activists from the German Animal Welfare Office demonstrated on fiberglass naked on pedestrian zone in Cologne. Under the motto “better naked than fur” Jan (39), Konstantin (21), Julia (41) and Moritz 29) marched through the city with banners and loud appeals.

The first from the left is Jan Peifer, the founder of the organization.

Julia said to “BILD- newspaper: “It took a lot of effort to overcome, but I like to do it because I know what the purpose is.”

lieber nackt als pelz 4pgThe passersby reacted differently – sometimes laughing, sometimes embarrassed.
The highlight of the nude protest: The animal rights activists showed their buttocks in front of the shop “Femme”, which sells real fur.

Activist spokeswoman Denise Weber (31): “The animals live all their lives in a confined space, are then killed and then the fur is removed. We want to take action against this. “

Many people don’t even know they’re wearing real fur. Because sometimes there are hats with a real fur pompom under 10 euros.

My comment: 25 years ago, in 1994, numerous celebrities supported the naked protest against fur, which PETA started as a first NGO in its protest campaign with prominent models.
They also undressed at the time, to protest against fur.

I find the direct naked appearance of the brave activists very strong. And is perhaps more effective, because such a provocation is remembered not only as a naked parade but as a naked reality.
And maybe abolish the next fur purchase.

We never know how an action affects society.
From our experience, however, we know that the more this society is confronted with animal suffering, the greater the chances of a change.

Thailand: Zoo Performing Elephants to be Rested Until Their Health Improves.

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has ordered the management of the Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo to give two skinny elephants a rest from performing until their health has improved.

Spokesman Sompote Maneerat said on Friday that officials had examined animals at the zoo in Muang district of Samut Prakan province on Wednesday following online complaints about undernourished animals there.

Two of its five elephants, aged 18 and 32, were skinny because they had lost some of their teeth and could not chew their food properly. This affected their ability to absorb the nutrients.

The department recommended the zoo management use pellet and chopped feed to rehabilitate their health before resuming their shows.

The same recommendation was given for a skinny 15-year-old horse. It was also half-blind and was not used in any show, Mr Sompote said.

The officials found no problems with the physical aspects of the zoo, but recommended the management added activities and tools to improve the life of the animals in its cages, which include chimpanzees and tigers.

The department also discovered the zoo’s licence had expired on April 21, 2016. The management sought renewal on April 18, 2016, and was instructed to present additional documents, Mr Sompote said. It had not yet done so.

Nigeria: Cocoa costs the life of the gorillas

Who likes chocolate that has been destroyed by forests where gorillas live?
This is exactly what is happening in Nigeria: cocoa farms invade the last retreat of the endangered primates.

flaggen-nigeria
The overexploitation is fueled by the lust of chocolate lovers in Europe. But the forest of the gorillas must not die for sweets.
Cross River gorillas are the most endangered great ape in Africa with only 200-300 individuals remaining in the wild.

Cross river Gorillajpg

Nigeria gives rise to despair and hope at the same time: the country’s forests are almost completely destroyed, 96 percent have disappeared. The state of Cross River in the southeast is a ray of hope. The forests are among the most biodiverse in the world and even offer gorillas a habitat.

_Cross_River_State_Nigeria.jpg

But Cross River also loses forest: In 2017, more than 16,000 hectares were destroyed. That is four times more than last year. The main causes are illegal logging, palm oil plantations and the production of charcoal. Cocoa plantations that are planted in protected forests are increasingly to blame. It is often small farmers who see it as a safe source of income and are not familiar with environmentally friendly farming methods.

Overexploitation is fueled by demand in Europe. Nigeria is the third largest cocoa exporter in the world and meets ten percent of the EU’s needs. Deliveries have grown 65 percent to 248,000 tons in 2018 over the past three years, with Holland, Germany and Belgium being the main importers.

Kakao-farm

In Ivory Coast and Ghana, countries 1 and 2 of origin, forest destruction for cocoa has reached extreme proportions. Almost all protected areas were looted in the Ivory Coast, Ghana holds a sad world record in terms of forest destruction in 2018. The close connection between cocoa cultivation and forest destruction leads to worst worries for Nigeria.

The chocolate companies buy everything they can get, regardless of the environment and animals. It is almost impossible for customers in Europe to find out where their favorite chocolate comes from.

Environmentalists in Brussels are fighting for the EU to regulate the market. But the gorillas can’t wait for that.

cross river Gorillapg

The governor of Cross Rivers State is in charge of protecting the gorillas’ habitat.

There are already attempts in the Cross River State to prevent further destruction of cocoa forests. The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is in the process of expanding an ongoing project to villages in Afi, Mbe and Okwangwo. The aim is to produce cocoa in an environmentally friendly way. The EU is involved financially.

The state government also plans to build a processing plant in the city of Ikom. It is difficult to estimate what impact this will have on the expansion of the plantations.

The petition goes to: Governor Ben Ayade, Forestry Commission Ogbang Akwaji

“Cocoa plantations threaten the last rainforests in the Cross River State. Please strengthen nature conservation and fight the illegal clearing of forest for cocoa “!

My comment: The animal species are getting fewer every day and the criminal species more and more.
You have to search for half an hour to find a soap without palm oil in the supermarket .
Then you buy a vegan chocolate and go home with a clear conscience that this humble pleasure does not cause an animal life.
But then you read that your chocolate’s cocoa may come from a country where there are only 300 gorillas left because your chocolate costs them their life.

We have to fit everywhere and on everything, nowadays.

Animal welfare has become a detective work.

PETITION TARGET: District Attorney Madeline Singas

Several kittens were found dead and bound with duct tape after being tortured, killed via blunt force, and then heartlessly dumped down a garbage chute in Nassau County, N.Y.

“These cats were badly mutilated, these cats were tortured by some means,” stated Jed Painter from the Nassau DA Animal Crimes Unit. “We had multiple broken bones. In fact, one of the animals, pretty much every single bone in the body was broken.”

Justin Visconti, a 37-year-old man who lives in the building where the kittens were found, was arrested and is being charged with four counts of aggravated animal cruelty, reports ABC News. Workers in the building told police this was the third time in recent weeks that dead cats were discovered in the garbage chute.

Visconti must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and he should be banned from ever going near an animal again.
