London – November 2018.

Quite rightly; those who gave their lives to defend their homeland should always be remembered.  There are many national events happening in the UK this week to mark the centenary of the end of the First world war – one of, if not the, biggest takers of life of all time.

The Tower of London was illuminated on Sunday evening by thousands of torches, which were lit in its dry moat to mark the centenary of the end of the first world war.

A Beefeater began the ceremony by bringing a flame down from the tower to the moat, which had been filled with smoke. Representatives of the armed forces and volunteers used the flame to ignite about 10,000 torches scattered at the foot of the tower’s walls

We always remember the fallen humans; but what about the animals that have given their lives in conflict ?

London has many memorials dedicated to the service provided by animals during the great wars.  Every year, whilst the memorial to the fallen soldiers is taking place in London; many people visit the animals memorial to lay wreaths and to thanks the forgotten heroes who were such a force in the war.

Horses, donkeys and mules fought like heroes in WW1, side by side with millions of soldiers. Over eight million equines fell during the war and without them the outcome could have been very different.

On arrival in Egypt in 1930, Dorothy Brooke was determined to find the surviving ex-warhorses of the British, Australian and American forces. These brave and noble horses were sold into a life of hard labour in Cairo when conflict ended.

Searching for them throughout Cairo, Dorothy was appalled to find hundreds of emaciated and worn-out animals desperately in need of help. She wrote a letter to the Morning Post (which later became the Daily Telegraph – London newspaper) exposing their plight.

Civil courage helps save lives!

China

When a woman searched for her missing dog, she had no idea that she would eventually save nearly 200 stolen dogs from a brutal death.

On Sunday, November 4, Chengdu police in China raided an illegal dog slaughterhouse and handed over all 171 dogs to the Sichuan Qiming nursery for health care and recovery.

Schlachthof von Hunde in Chinajpg

Media reported that the slaughterhouse had been discovered when a local woman was searching for her disappeared Belgian Malinois.

Ms. Peng, as she is known in the media, traveled to Jianyang City, where she was told about a slaughterhouse in Kuixing Town.

When she entered the slaughterhouse, her dog immediately recognized her and started to jump.

A real animal is someone, not some thing!

All of you who have children should show this video to them. It describes the reality in laboratories in a real way, only without real animals. And be well prepared when the kids ask questions. We are responsible for transmitting the truth to the next generations.
Perhaps, this generation will be the one who ends the suffering of the animals in each sector.
And for that it has to know the truth.

Baby Goat Born With No Front Legs Still Loves to Bounce and Run.

VIDEO: Baby Goat Born With No Front Legs Still Loves to Bounce and Run

Posted by Katie Valentine | November 7, 2018

This little goat, Miracle, was born without front legs, but she doesn’t let that stop her from loving life!

Sarah, the woman who took Miracle in, runs a non-profit wildlife rescue. One day, a farmer came to her house for help – while Miracle was being born, something went wrong, causing her to lose both her front legs.

At first, Sarah wasn’t sure if Miracle was going to survive, but she quickly sprang to life and was named accordingly. Within a week of being born, she was zooming around in her own custom-built wheelchair.

When Miracle grew up, she was fitted with a pair of prosthetic limbs.

Miracle has found a way to “give back,” and participates in animal therapy programs for disabled adults and children.

Her inspirational journey reminds us that when things seem less than ideal or even bad, life is a gift and worth living to the fullest.

Wales looks set to follow England in backing Lucy’s Law fight to end puppy farm suffering

Animal welfare campaigners jubilant after Cabinet Secretary announcement

Here’s a fantastic double dose of great news in our fight to end the horrors of mass commercial puppy farming.

(England) Environment Secretary Michael Gove has already declared that the sale of puppies by pet shops, online dealers and other third party traders will be banned in England, cutting the route to market used by cruel breeders.

Now a senior figure in the Welsh Assembly has said it will launch a consultation into introducing the same Lucy’s Law ban in the New Year.

Cabinet Secretary Lesley Griffiths declared : “I know there are growing concerns about the welfare standards at some large scale breeding premises and I have asked my officials to investigate how a ban on third party sales could address these concerns.”

Animal welfare is a devolved power, so the ban in England would not apply in Wales, where there is the biggest concentration of large scale commercial puppy breeders in the UK.

“This is a great result for grassroots campaigning,” said a spokeswoman for campaign group CARIAD – it’s Welsh for “beloved” and stands for Care And Respect Includes All Dogs.

“We will be ensuring that the Welsh Government is fully equipped with indisputable evidence that supports a ban on the selling of puppies by pet shops and other commercial third party sellers including those operating from residential premises and importing puppies.”

The Mirror has been supporting the Lucy’s Law campaign to ban third party puppy sales, named after a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rescued following years trapped as a breeding bitch.

Above – Eluned Morgan

Welsh Labour leadership contender Eluned Morgan tweeted: “Congratulations to all of the incredible people who have fought so hard to make this possible – I am proud to be part of such an inspiring campaign!”

Other good news came from the welfare group Friends of Animals Wales , which is reporting a surge in dogs being abandoned by puppy farmers who are winding-down their operations, knowing that soon they will not be able to sell in England.

Today the group is due to collect ten adult breeding dogs no longer wanted by one mass breeder.

“We are dreading the state they’ll be in and are ready for huge vet’s bills,” said its Eileen Jones.

“But we will cope. In response to a plea we got 38 new applications from people wanting to foster a dog in the last 24 hours.

“The long term is looking fantastic, even though the short term is going to be really difficult, but this is absolutely what we want, it’s what we’ve been fighting for years.”

Eileen was at the latest rally in Cardiff by dog lovers demanding Lucy’s Law, as was Carol, one of the former breeding bitches taken in by Friends of Animals Wales and who sums up all that is wrong with puppy farming.

At the time she had an enormous mammary tumour.

“It was absolutely horrific, it was so big it touched the ground,” said Eileen.

“We had it removed and she’s made a good recovery.

“Physically Carol is fantastic, but mentally dreadfully scarred.

“She will not walk on a lead and will run away if you go to touch her.

“What’s really heartbreaking is that she must have been in that dreadful condition for months.

“The puppy breeder just kept her, not seeking help from a vet, squeezing the last drop of money from her by breeding more litters, until finally dumping her.”

Now we just need Scotland to come on board to ensure that puppy farmers have no outlets in the UK, but as things stand the Scottish Parliament plans to still allow to third party dealers to sell puppies and kittens.

Many of these puppies are imported through Stranraer from Ireland where they are bred, just like Carol, in the most atrocious conditions, hidden away in a puppy farm in the middle of nowhere, forced to produce litter after litter of puppies.

So long as puppy farmers can sell through pet shops and other third party dealers in Scotland, this suffering will continue.

New Retirement Home Off Iceland For Beluga Whales Used In ‘Entertainment’ Park In China.

WATCH: Whales airlifted from Chinese park to cold water sanctuary off Iceland

TWO ghostly white whales are being airlifted from a Chinese entertainments park to live out their days at the world’s first beluga sanctuary.

By Stuart Winter

The whales called Little Grey and Little White will be flown 6,000 miles to the cold waters off Iceland in what is being described as a ground-breaking project to herald the eventual end of whale and dolphin shows.

Whale and Dolphin Conservation have teamed up with the Sea Life Trust to create the open water sanctuary and the two 12 year old beluga are being slowly prepared for their new natural life in a secluded bay off Heimay, one of Iceland’s remote Westman Islands.

Because both female beluga, originally from Russia, but have been captive for so long, they can never be returned fully to the wild Arctic waters of their ancestors.

A team of cetacean experts and vets have designed a training programme for the two beluga to prepare them for their journey and for life in their 32,000 square metre sanctuary. Beluga live up to 50 years.

Besides introducing the 12-foot long beluga to the specialist stretchers that will ferry them by land, sea and air to the reserve, trainers are also teaching them how to hold their breath for diving as well as building up strength so they can cope with the tides and currents of open water.

This is a complex and logistically challenging rehoming project of two well-loved beluga whales

A rich diet of herring and capelin will ensure they have extra blubber to insulate them in Iceland’s colder waters.

The belugas’ new lives in the North Atlantic is the result of Merlin Entertainments taking over China’s Changfeng Ocean World in Shanghai, with its philosophy of not keeping whales or dolphins in captivity.

Merlin Entertainments are donating towards the creation of the sanctuary with its stunning backdrop in Klettsvik Bay and which will also have a care facility as well as a visitor centre when it is completed next year.

There will be limited, discrete public viewing allowed but this will be carefully controlled to ensure the beluga are not disturbed in the natural surroundings.

Rob Hicks, director of Merlin’s animal and welfare department, said: “This is a complex and logistically challenging rehoming project of two well-loved beluga whales.

“Little Grey and Little White are highly intelligent marine mammals and are fast learners, but we are taking all precautions to protect their health and well-being.

“The aquarium team at Changfeng Ocean World have been very helpful in supporting this project and we will be helping each beluga to get ready for this landmark journey and their new environment.

“A team of vets will be with the whales at all times during transit to monitor their welfare to ensure their relocation is successful.”

Sea Life Trust is Merlin’s partner charity and is working with WDC to break new ground in marine animal welfare.

Andy Bool, head of Sea Life Trust, said: “This project has been years in the making and is a pioneering solution to how the aquarium industry can re-shape the futures of whales in captivity.

“This is a truly global effort and working with our partners, leading veterinarians and marine experts, we believe providing a more natural habitat for Little Grey and Little White to dive into cool waters and interact with the natural environment will greatly enhance their quality of life.”

Providing a new home for the two Little Grey and Little White at the Sea Life Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary will hopefully lead to more captive marine mammals being rehabilitated, say conservationists.

WDC chief executive Chris Butler-Stroud said: “We have long applauded the commitment of Merlin and the Sea Life Trust to find a better, alternative future for these belugas, which is in line with our concerns about the keeping of whales and dolphins in captivity around the world, and the need to find a solution for the thousands of individuals held.

“We are proud to have been a partner from the very beginning in this important project to improve beluga welfare and hope it will create a blueprint for further such sanctuaries for belugas and other captive whales and dolphins, which are desperately needed to address the risks captivity poses to whale and dolphin health and welfare.”

First ‘retirement home’ for showbiz beluga whales

UK-based company Merlin Entertainments says it does not want to keep beluga whales in its marine parks because they suffer in captivity.

But it has been under pressure over a park in Shanghai, China, which it has owned since 2012 and where two belugas perform.

It has long promised to move the marine mammals to a more natural home. But it had been saying that there was nowhere suitable – until now, that is.

WAV Comment –  Another small sign that things are changing for the better.  Through never ending campaigning and awareness information; people are now dismissing the entertainment parks which hold these wonderful animals in barbaric conditions; and instead are now asking for all their kind the world over to be released back into much more natural surroundings.  Captive animals such as these can never really return to the wild; but they can be provided with sanctuary which represents this for them.   We welcome this project and hope that all goes well with it.

Kleve- District North Rhine-Westphalia: Hunters are angry: Since the beginning of the year, many of their high seats were willfully destroyed. The hunt already suffers! (that means: they can not execute animals)!

rehtotaufhochsitz

Alfred Nimphius is angry. The 64-year-old is chairman of the county hunters Wesel and since 40 years he is a hunter (he has to retire already).

But he has never experienced anything like that, he says. In the period from March to September 2018, more than 60 high seats in the districts of Wesel and Kleve were willfully destroyed or damaged. “That sometimes high seats are sawn, that happens again and again, it is sad but it happens. But since the beginning of the year, the incidents are extremely high, and the perpetrators are doing very professional, “says Nimphius in an interview with our editors. The high seats were therefore not only sawn and then tipped over, but completely sawed into small pieces. “Even metal pipes were cut small,” says Nimphius stunned.

Zerstörter Hochsitz

The destruction series started in a forest near Duisburg-Baerl – directly on the border to the district of Wesel. “Then it went on suddenly: The entire Lower Rhine was covered, up to the district Kleve high seats were destroyed,” says Nimphius. The most recent case has been in September in Neukirchen-Vlyun. “There, eight high seats were destroyed at the Halde Norddeutschland in a single night,” says the 64-year-old. Luckily nobody was hurt. “The rage among the hunters is great.” In the forests where high seats were destroyed, hunting is now clearly limited. But all high seats will be rebuilt. For the financial damage, the owners of the respective areas themselves. The situation is different with the forest in Wesel – the forest belongs to the country and there the taxpayer pays in the end. (That is not correct! Many high seats are illegally built where they are not allowed to stand. Nobody will pay for them)

Jaeger aus Hochsitz schiessendpg

Meanwhile, Nimphius has collected all cases from the region and handed over to the prosecutor’s office in Duisburg. According to spokeswoman for the prosecution, Jennifer King, the police are still investigating. “It also checks which cases really belong together,” says König.

Nimphius and his colleagues simply do not want to accept the destruction: “Of course, we want to do everything we can to get those responsible”.

My comment: The hunt is nothing but the terror of a minority of 0.45% sadistic murderer against innocent and defenseless animals.
And a population of over 80,000,000 Germans makes this terror possible with their “tolerance”, their cowardice.

But… some disagree and actively defend the rights of the defenseless. Against the green plague in the forest.
And if we consider that a hunting license can be purchased within 6 days, then we can also imagine how big the hit quota in the hunt is.
At least from this murder seats no animal will be shot down, that’s for sure.
The hunt is and will continue to be murder!

China: Unbelievably, China WILL ALLOW Trade in Endangered Rhino and Tiger Products.

Unbelievably, China Will Allow Trade in Endangered Rhino and Tiger Products

Posted by Kristen Arnim | November 5, 2018

SIGN: Stop China’s Devastating Plan to Legalize Tiger Bones and Rhino Horns

Reversing a ban from the 1990s, China will begin allowing trade in endangered rhino and tiger products. Many conservation groups are in uproar, saying the reversal will encourage poaching and compromise both species.

Rhino horns and tiger bones are often used in China in traditional remedies for ailments ranging from insomnia to fever to meningitis. Though none of the medicinal benefits have been proven, the animal parts are highly sought after and valuable.

“Special circumstances” is the phrase used by the Chinese government in justifying this blatant disregard for the well being of these two endangered species. The claim is the trade will be allowed under special circumstances and strictly controlled, limited to products from farmed animals and for healing purposes only. However, any allowance for trade will be opening the opportunity for illegal activity. And tempting those who can profit will increase illegal poaching and trafficking.

Even legal use under the relaxed regulations does harm to animals. Lady Freethinker recently reported on cruel tiger farms throughout Asia. Exploited as tourist attractions, the animals live in cramped and sometimes drugged conditions. Eventually they are killed, with body parts sold off for decoration or medicine.

Conservationists and organizations like The Humane Society International immediately responded to China’s decision, alarmed at the relaxed regulations. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) said that the reversal could have “devastating consequences” in protecting these animals. The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) said China’s decision is a “brazen and regressive move which drastically undermines international efforts for tiger and rhino conservation.”

Unbelievably, China Will Allow Trade in Endangered Rhino and Tiger Products

China made a tremendous move to stop the poaching of elephants when they decided to ban all domestic ivory trade this year. To back off on conservation efforts of tigers and rhinos is baffling and disheartening.

With less than 3,900 wild tigers and 30,000 wild rhinos remaining in the world, one wonders how reversing this allowance could possibly be worth it.
