Tönnies empire is for 14 days closed!

After the corona outbreak at the meat company Tönnies, 1,029 employees already tested positive for corona, which means that the number of infected people almost doubled within a few days.
The district administrator has closed the company, schools, and daycare centers.

We recently reported: https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2020/06/18/germany-alarm-mood-at-the-meat-baron-tonnies/

And so … the Tönnies meat empire in Rheda-Wiedenbrück is closed for 14 days (!!!) The district decided it, as the head of the crisis team said.

However, some employees can work in the so-called quarantine. This means that they can only switch between their place of work and where they live. This also applies to Clemens Tönnies.

The district of Gütersloh and occupational safety were given access to Tönnies personnel files on Saturday evening.

“The company was unable to provide us with all the addresses. The company has always reacted slowly,” said the head of the crisis team.
By Friday, Tönnies had delivered employee lists in which 30 percent of the addresses were missing (!!)

“The trust that we put in Tönnies is zero. I have to say it so clearly,” said the head of the crisis team.

Vigorous demonstrations are now taking place in front of the Tönnies meat factory.

And I mean…The German Minister of Economics tried to calm us down: “The supply of food is a valuable commodity and I want the trust in food and meat ” made in Germany ” to be maintained”!

I assume that the Tönies family has paid enough donations for the government lobbyists. This means that there will be no difficulties for the further existence of the Tönnies Empire when the first excitement is over.

Incidentally, Clemens Tönnies has used this tactic of withdrawing (home office) very often in the past, and thus saved himself from bad consequences due to other scandals. As soon as the situation calms down, the home office is over, and everything continues as before.

Our corporations can afford anything. Here, Eastern European citizens are exploited, farm animals tortured immeasurably, other companies have long relocated their production to Eastern Europe and sell it as German brand quality. Protected by the German government.

Incidentally, the slaughter industry association has already threatened to relocate production to Eastern Europe.
Old friends will meet there again.

My best regards to all, Venus

EU: European Parliament Committee of Inquiry Mandated to Deeply Investigate Animal Transports

EP Committee of Inquiry mandated to deeply investigate animal transports

19 June 2020

News

Today the European (EU) Parliament approved the setting up of a Committee of Inquiry on live transport.

This is the first Inquiry approved by the EU Parliament in this legislative mandate and the third one approved since its establishment. The Committee will examine the responsibilities of the EU Commission and the EU Member States in implementing and enforcing the Union rules. Such a committee will also be an important step towards making the revised Transport Regulation an effective tool to protect the welfare of the animals transported within and outside the EU.

With 605 out of 689 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in favour   the EU Parliament approved the formation of a Committee of Inquiry to look into the implementation and enforcement of the Council Regulation 1/2005 (Transport Regulation) across the EU and beyond. This is good news for the millions of animals that every year are transported alive in critical conditions, as revealed by more than 200 investigations since 2007. Also the EU Commission, that in the past three years conducted several audits on animal welfare during transport, revealed major animal welfare problems and low levels of compliance.

The call for this Committee of Inquiry on live transport came from 183 MEPs who were renewing the request already made in 2018.  At that time, the Conference of Presidents concluded that an Implementation Report was more appropriate to deal with this matter than a Committee of Inquiry. Voted for by the EU Parliament in February 2019, that Report highlighted key issues to be addressed and, among others issues, it recommended the EU Parliament to establish a Committee of Inquiry on the welfare of animals during transport for a more in-depth analysis.

Today with its favorable vote, the Plenary agreed on the setting up of such a committee to assess the major barriers currently impeding the enforcement of the Transport Regulation, as well as examining the responsibilities of the EU Commission and the EU and Member States in enforcing and implementing the rules.

“Since its foundation, Eurogroup for Animals has been working on live transport with the EU institutions and stakeholders across the EU, and today we welcome this Parliamentary decision – says Reineke Hameleers, CEO of Eurogroup for Animals. This Committee will conduct a long overdue in-depth investigation into the system and it will contribute to making the new Transport Regulation an effective tool to protect the welfare of the animals transported within and outside the EU ”.

Indeed, such a Committee will also be instrumental in the framework of the revision of the Transport Regulation – announced in May by the EU Commission – by highlighting shortcomings of the current legislative framework that should be addressed by a revision.

England: Hogwood; A Modern Horror Story; Coming To You Very Soon.

England

We are thrilled to announce that HOGWOOD: a modern horror story will be available to stream on Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Google Play Movies from 25 June 2020!

We are inviting you to follow our intrepid group of undercover investigators as they enter HOGWOOD farm for the very first time and beyond. The conspiracy unfolds as we fight against some of the most powerful players in the animal agriculture industry. This is a gripping tale of negligence, greed and inaction, and our unrelenting fight to help the pigs trapped in Hogwood Farm.

This is a momentous milestone for us and we could not have done it without your support. You helped us show the demand for this film to be made and now, it will be screened to the masses!

The Hogwood Story

Viva! investigated Hogwood pig farm four times from 2017 to 2019. Year after year, we recorded a catalogue of cruelty including extreme overcrowding, routine mutilation, sick and dying pigs abandoned in gangways, painful lacerations and live cannibalism.

To make matters worse, Hogwood was a Red Tractor approved farm which supplied supermarket giant Tesco and supposedly represented the best of British farming. But we proved otherwise!

With your support, we took to the streets and held over 300 nationwide demonstrations outside Tesco stores. We broadcast the undercover footage on national news web sites and from massive video vans and distributed hundreds of thousands of leaflets about Hogwood farm. We publicly shamed and petitioned Tesco to drop Hogwood, taking our campaign directly to their supply chain director to deliver the petition in person. Finally, in 2019, after the final ground-breaking investigation, Red Tractor and Tesco dropped Hogwood.

Despite this landslide victory, Hogwood remains the most disturbing and harrowing investigation of them all. We couldn’t help but think about the pigs trapped inside Hogwood farm, and other farms across the country which are just like Hogwood. We knew the fight was not over yet and so earlier this year, with your overwhelming support, we produced HOGWOOD: a modern horror story. Now we need your help to get this film seen by the masses.

Federal Court In Australia Permits Live Export Of 56,000 Sheep To The Middle East Despite A “Ban” Already In Place

Today, there are over 50,000 more reasons to be outraged and appalled by the horrendous conditions animals are subjected to during live exports. The latest travesty involves the ongoing plight of Animals Australia to save 56,000 sheep from this barbaric practice.

“As many of you know, new laws designed to protect animals from suffering on board live export ships in the searing summer months came into effect two weeks ago,” noted a post on the organization’s Facebook page earlier this week. “Sadly, they have just failed their first test, with the industry regulator granting an exemption that will allow thousands of sheep shipped in boiling conditions.”

B june

Animal’s Australia and their legal team secured an urgent trial in the Federal Court in a bid to challenge the decision-making process. Sadly, yesterday, their case was dismissed, leaving the sheep victim to the live export process where they will either cruelly die on the ship or be slaughtered for their meat when they arrive in the Middle East.

“Animals Australia accepts the Federal Court’s decision, but we are, of course, disappointed. Our position remains that had the Department had all available expert evidence before it, this exemption would not have been granted,” Animal Australia’s Lyn White said in a statement, noting that the reason the legislation was introduced was to ensure commercial interests were no longer put before animal welfare. “There are no exceptional circumstances that justify knowingly putting 50,000 sheep at risk of heat stroke.”

The June 1st halt in live sheep shipments to the Middle East was implemented based on extensive scientific reviews that concluded that measures cannot be taken to sufficiently mitigate the risk of heat stress during June.

C june

“The summer halt is in line with the industry’s own northern summer moratorium. They cannot have it both ways; animal welfare either matters or it doesn’t,” concluded White. Applying for an exemption that will result in inescapable and inevitable animal suffering indicates that animal welfare does not matter to them in this case.

The fight to save sheep and other animals from having to experience the horrors of live export in the summer must continue. Their lives depend on it!

Please urge the Australian Minister for Agriculture, David Littleproud, to demand that Australian laws be put in place to stop animals being subjected to live exports now! SIGN HERE!

The longtime activist Reagan Russel was killed while protesting.

A longtime animal rights activist was fatally struck by a truck on Friday while she was protesting outside a slaughterhouse west of Toronto, her friends said.

Regan Russell, a member of Toronto Pig Save, died after being hit by a transport truck full of pigs on its way to Fearman’s Pork, a processing plant in Burlington, Ont., said Anita Krajnc, the group’s co-founder.

glass walls aktivistin russel tot

“She was in front of the truck when it ran over her,” said Krajnc, who did not witness the incident but had heard from other activists who were there at the time.

The death of the 65-year-old activist comes just two days after the province passed controversial legislation that hiked fines for trespassing on farms and food-processing facilities and made it illegal to obstruct trucks carrying farm animals.

Dozens of activists gathered at the plant Friday to mourn their friend.

“She was a sophisticated, well-educated woman who was very strong and always determined to do the right thing,” Krajnc said.

Russell had often joined Toronto Pig Save as they gave water to pigs on transport trucks at the entrance of the plant, she said, and Friday was no different.

“She supported Black Lives Matter, Indigenous rights and she was an intersectional vegan who understood the importance of equality in terms of racial justice and in terms of animal equality,” Krajnc said.

Camille Labchuk, the executive director of Animal Justice, said Russell was a life-long animal advocate.

“She was the most peaceful, logical, kind, compassionate person that I’ve ever met. She just stuck up for the vulnerable … we need more people like that, it’s terrible,” said Stephanie Schwartz, a fellow Toronto Pig Save activist.

A large number of activists have shown up at the scene, where the group plans to hold an all-night vigil in honor of Russell and the pigs she loved, Krajnc said.

“We have asked management to get some of these pigs in the truck to a sanctuary in her name,” she said.

Halton police said they received a call around 10:20 a.m. about a pedestrian who had been struck by a transport truck. They said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The group has long protested the slaughter of pigs at Fearman’s Pork and were there Friday to protest the recent passage of law activists have dubbed the “ag-gag” bill.

Toronto Pig Save regularly holds “vigils” outside the facility, and on hot days activists will feed water to the pigs as they’re taken to slaughter.

Temperatures reached 30C Friday and much of southwestern Ontario was under a heat warning by Environment Canada.

“We have had many close calls here,” Krajnc said. “We have asked for trucks to stop for two minutes so we can bear witness, say goodbye to the pigs and give them water.”

The group drew international headlines in 2015 when Krajnc was arrested while giving water to the pigs on a hot day at the same spot.

She was later found not guilty of criminal mischief when the case went to trial.

Sofina Foods Inc., owner of Fearman’s Pork, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

And I mean…In other countries, this action in front of the slaughterhouse is called “The Save Movement” and has the same goal: to accompany the animals to their last station.

I was often there at the same actions in my city (vigils), and I have often experienced how the truck drivers drive into the slaughterhouse.

Even if an activist is at the front and peacefully shows that the only thing the activists want is to be with the animals a little bit in their last hours before slaughter, they don’t stop.
Most even step on the gas, and if you don’t jump on the side, you run the risk of being run over like Reagan Russel.

The police are always present, discreet, and at a distance, but they are not there to protect the activists, but the slaughterhouse.

What can you expect from people who torture animals, beat animals, kill animals?
That they respect human life?
Those who are in constant contact with violence are dulled.
They have no inhibitions to do the same with human life as with animals..

RiP Regan Russel!

thank you so much for everything you did for the animal’s, sadly your life was tragically taken by one of those death trucks outside farms slaughterhouse.

In our eyes, you are a hero and will not be forgotten.
